Posted Breed: Anatolian Shepherd / Alaskan Malamute / Mixed. Hi! I'm Sampson, but my foster mom calls me Big Muffin. Although the shelter had me listed as a Great Pyrenees Mix (probably due to my size), my foster mom did a DNA test on me, and I came back as 87.5% Anatolian Shepherd (which actually makes a lot more sense). I am a healthy 110 lbs now, thanks to my wonderful foster parents! So my new family will need to be able to handle a big boy! I'm a very funny boy who loves to play and is eager to please. I get along great with other dogs, big or small, but it takes me a minute to warm up to new people. Once I get to know you though, I'm a great friend to have! I'll accompany you on any outdoor adventure and I love the car rides to get wherever we're going. I like to have a job to do, so I'll carry a back pack so you don't have to carry one on our walks. I love to explore new toys and I enjoy bones as well. I like to take them all out when I'm ready to settle in for some chew time and chew on all of them! Due to being so big, and my natural protective instincts, I will need a home with a 6' fence or higher. I'm also fully trained and am so smart, I can sometimes even anticipate what you're going to ask me to do. I'm just a gentle soul looking for a quiet home life and plenty of outdoor adventures with just me and my special person. Is that you? Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes that every pet should find a wonderful, caring home. To ensure each pet finds the best possible home, we ask that you fill out an adoption application form so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application we receive and will contact you as quickly as possible. A home visit will be scheduled before any pet is adopted to a new home. Once a home visit has taken place and the adoption application has been approved, we will ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement form. Our adoption fees help cover the cost of spay/neuter, veterinary exams, vaccinations, microchipping, and foster care, enabling us to save more lives! Adoption fee is $80 and covers microchip, DAPP, Rabies, Heart Worm test and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application here . We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email ARRColorado@gmail.com for more information, as we can not accept calls at this time. Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. 2. We'll contact you to schedule a home visit. 3. If the pet looks like a great match, fill out our Adoption Agreement online (or Foster-to-Adopt Agreement), pay the Adoption Fee, and arrange to pick up your new furry family member!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). I'm Tyger and I'm quite the lovebug! I love to snuggle with my person any chance I get. I also like to get bathed and to burrow under the covers! I seem to have a fear of males, but I'm a hit with the ladies. I'm also learning cool doggie things, like housetraining and my basic commands. Not to toot my own horn, but I'm doing pretty good. I also really like treats! I tend to be a typical Chihuahua and possessive of my human, so I would do better in a home without little kids or other dogs or men who want to move in on my lady. I'm a sweet boy who just wants to cuddle with my person. Accepting applications for snuggles today! Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes that every pet should find a wonderful, caring home. Posted Breed: Manchester Terrier / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Hi, I'm Susie. I'm a sweet, playful pup who originally hails from Georgia. I was rescued from a pretty bad situation out there, and I am oh so happy to be in foster care. I love having someone to love me, four legged friends to play with, and a safe and warm bed in my crate. You'll never find anyone more appreciative of having a home than me! Due to my rough past, I do still have a few issues I'm working through. My therapist says I'm going to need some patience when it comes to warming up to new people and situations. I'm still very wary of men, and children might be a little too much for me right now. I need a home that's mellow, with a patient and caring person. When I'm comfortable and trusting and relaxed, I'm just the best dog ever! I can't wait to find the right special person that will love me forever and restore my faith in humanity. I'm a mellow, gentle dog who loves to go on walks, enjoys car rides, and is content to lie on my bed and enjoy a good bone to chew! I also enjoy being a lap dog! I get along well with everyone I meet. I would love a quieter home with adults only, as children can make me nervous. I can be a bit choosy with new dogs that I meet, so I need to be introduced with supervision. I'll be a pretty easy dog to care for, I don't require much exercise and I'm content to just hang at home. I'm neutered, microchipped, housetrained, and up to date on my vaccinations - now I just want a loving home where I can relax and enjoy my golden years! I have all the moxy of a big dog packed into a fun travel size! I also like to curl up with you while you watch TV or read a book. I really just like being with my people. I'm still learning how to play with other dogs. Right now, I'm more comfortable with dogs my size, but I'd love to learn to play with the big dogs too! I've never been around cats, so I'm not sure what I'd think about them. I'm already house trained, know most of my basic commands and walk well on a leash. I can't wait to find a family that will help me keep learning about the world, take me along on adventures and can match all the love, affection and loyalty I have to give! Will it be you? (He can make out large, contrasting shapes, and detect movement.) But he has excellent hearing and a great nose. He is small enough to carry, if need be, and quite agreeable to being lifted. He is friendly to all the dogs who greet him through his kennel mesh. Ernie was chained up and abandoned, and that's about all we know of his past. Our vet says there is nothing to be done for his vision, but he is otherwise in good shape for an older guy. One of the workers in the facility, Genelle, took me in and has tirelessly tried to find me an adoptive home. She contacted over three dozen no-kill shelters and rescues, but no luck. During our time together, my foster has discovered that I am an awesome dog who will make the right family very happy! I am house trained, leashed trained and familiar with basic commands (come, sit, stay, lay down) and even some fancy commands (spin!). My favorite snacks are meat-based. What can I say, I'm a carnivore! I also enjoy sliced apples and carrots. I am loving towards all people-men, women, and children. I enjoy snuggling, chilling on the couch and, if allowed, climbing into bed with you. I have a dominant personality and prefer to be the only dog in the household. I am the quintessential Colorado dog, always up for a walk, hike or car ride! Because of my past, I do have some separation anxiety issues, but I have come along way. If you would like to learn more about me, contact Genelle and she will fill you in! Genelle can be reached at the following phone and email. Sadly, our person is very ill and is not expected to outlive us, so we are in need of a quiet home in which we can continue our retirement. Ideally, you would be home most of the time, and perhaps you are retired yourself! We would like a comfy home where we can lounge around, and a back yard that is good for running around. We look forward to daily walks to the park or around the neighbourhood. We need to stay together, and preferably be your only dogs.
