Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Boston Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Hi! Thanks for giving me some attention! I'd like you to know that I've already been spayed or neutered. At Animal Friends, dogs and cats also leave fully up-to-date on shots and microchipped. All I need now is to find someone who will love me. Please ask to meet with an adoption counselor, so we can be properly introduced and talk about what kind of pet you're looking for. We can discuss whether you're looking for a lap pet or a social butterfly, an "only pet" or a furry "sibling" for kids or other animals. Best of all, by adopting from Animal Friends, you make it possible for them to rescue and care for another pet who truly needs help. So, what are you waiting for? Let's sit down together! ***************************************************** Hi! Thanks for giving me some attention! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

This beautiful brindle and white Pittie mix was rescued from a very unfortunate living situation thanks to our Humane Investigations team. Because Catherine is a young girl, she will need a family that can give her plenty of exercise. She is can be fearful and timid in new surroundings, but is quite gentle. Catherine''s owner should be sensitive to her visual startle as well. She tends to warm up faster to women than to men. Because of her fearfulness she would do best in a quiet, settled environment and will need to go to an adult-only home. This sweet girl needs a family who will slowly help her settle into a new home so she can show her loving side! Catherine is REQUIRED to go home with a social outgoing dog. Does this gentle soul sound like your perfect match? Please give us a call or stop in today to speak to an Adoption Counselor about Catherine! ***************************************************** To learn more about Animal Friends or view adoptable dogs, cats and rabbits, visit www.ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org. She is friendly with people and loves to be near them, but she doesn''t appear to be a big fan of cuddling right now. Shona loves her food and toys, but she can be a little possessive with them so she will need to go to an adult-only home with patient guardians who understand her needs. And although this energetic little girl has been very playful with other dogs, she can have a rowdy playing style with her canine comrades. Shona CANNOT live with cats. But if she can find a home with another fun-loving dog, she would be over the moon! ***************************************************** To learn more about Animal Friends or view adoptable dogs, cats and rabbits, visit www.ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org. He was rescued from a hoarding situation by our Humane Investigations team and has had to work hard to trust people again. Because these sweet dogs have never lived inside, they are very timid and nervous around most people. Many of them will need to go to a very patient home that is understanding of their circumstances. Simon is REQUIRED to go home with another calm dog to help him adjust to living in a home. He would do best in an ADULT ONLY home and cannot live with cats. These pups are certainly beautiful and worth the time and effort to help them continue to grow more trusting of people. If you are looking to give a gorgeous dog the second chance it truly deserves, visit Animal Friends today and ask our Adoptions Team about meeting Simon! ***************************************************** To learn more about Animal Friends or view adoptable dogs, cats and rabbits, visit www.ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org. Although Sapphire was very timid when she first arrived at the shelter, she has made steady progress with the help of volunteers and staff members. She is still cautious with new people, but she can warm up quickly when given the opportunity to approach visitors on her own terms. Once Sapphire is comfortable, she loves to play fetch or playfully gnaw on her favorite squeaky toy. Sapphire needs to go to an Adult Only home WITHOUT cats! This animal has been lovingly named by South Fayette Middle School Lion Hearts Community Service Club via our Kind Kids Program. ***************************************************** To learn more about Animal Friends or view adoptable dogs, cats and rabbits, visit www.ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org. She was wiggly and friendly upon admission and quickly showed her energy level! Cleo is a high-energy girl who needs stimulation - both mental and physical. She has been in a foster home for two years, but is still looking for her forever home. She is good in the home, occupying herself with bones and naps throughout the day. She loves to chase a laser light around the living room, which can keep her busy for hours – if you are willing! Because of Cleo’s high energy level and playstyle, she doesn’t get along well with all dogs. Some dogs enjoy her energy and enthusiasm for play, while others are put off by it. Because of this, we are recommending that she be the ONLY animal in the home. Cleo loves walks and jogs with her human companions and has been working diligently on her leash manners. Cleo would benefit from taking some behavior classes to fine-tune her skills. Her hyperactivity and anxiety suggests that she would NOT do well in a home with children. She can be overwhelming and mouthy when aroused. Cleo has been prescribed medicine to help manage her hyperactivity and anxiety, and combined with positive reinforcement training techniques, she is doing really well! Cleo is a Mission: Adoptable pet! Click hereto find out more about the Mission: Adoptable program and how it''s helping Cleo find a forever home! ***************************************************** To learn more about Animal Friends or view adoptable dogs, cats and rabbits, visit www.ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org. Best of all, by adopting from Animal Friends, you make it possible for them to rescue and care for another pet who truly needs help. So, what are you waiting for? Let's sit down together! ***************************************************** This stunningly handsome boy is Stan, who came to Animal Friends from a hoarding situation in September of 2015. The dog warden rescued Stan with his mom and other siblings who were all living in squalid conditions. Stan had never been socialized with people as a puppy and unfortunately had not been exposed to indoor living. Therefore, Stan is initially very fearful of new people, noises and surroundings. Because of this, Stan needs to go to a home with only adults, and WITHOUT cats. It took over six months of dedicated and patient work from staff and volunteers to win Stan over and teach him how to trust. Even with those he knows, Stan is still very nervous and timid. He needs an extremely patient and understanding owner who is willing to put in the time and effort needed for Stan to come out of his shell. Unlike some of the other dogs he came in with, Stan is confident in himself and so when afraid he barks at whatever it is that is scaring him instead of hiding. This can be intimidating but is manageable. Probably due to his previous living situation, Stan guards his food and toys. He will trade for toys, which is a great step, but gets very uncomfortable with people when he is eating. Stan will most likely never be a dog who tolerates parties or group gatherings, and because he has lived most of his life outside, he lacks a lot of skills that you and I might assume a dog should know. Patience and consistency will be key to his success in a home! This handsome boy deserves a loving forever home, and has waiting a long time to be ready for one! If you think Stan might be a good fit for you, please stop by Animal Friends today to talk to an Adoption Counselor about meeting him! Someone believes in Stan so much that they have sponsored his adoption, so he is truely priceless! ***************************************************** To learn more about Animal Friends or view adoptable dogs, cats and rabbits, visit www.ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org.
