Posted Breed: Hound / American Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). COURTESY POSTINGEllie May, a Hound/American Bulldog mix with a very pretty brindle and white coat, originally came from WV with her litter of pups. The pups were adopted, but Ellie May is still waiting her turn for a home. She is an active, happy girl who loves to run and play with the other dogs, and she would do best with another dog for company. At about 4 yrs old, Ellie loves to eat and weighs about 60 lbs, although she probably should lose a few pounds. If you have any questions, or would like to meet Ellie May, please email Dee.Adoption procedures, fees, and applications may be viewed by clicking here.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Terrier / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). **If you're viewing this on Petfinder, please visit www.petconnectrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.** Hey dog lovers, let's chat. I am Spirit and I have been with PetConnect since January. Like forever in dog weeks. While I am having a blast with my foster mom and canine foster brother, I would love to have a permanent family of my very own! So, let's get marketing! My deets are: female, ~1.5 human yrs, 45 pounds, fitness level-perfect, of course. Legs: stubby, but cute. Fur: soft, medium length, low-shedding & I love baths (I will even climb in the shower with you!). Body type: part polar bear(I like snow), part teddy bear(cuddly & squishy) and part frog-see my legs? Personality: kind of silly, easygoing, personable, especially if you rub my back & belly, respectful of dogs of all sizes (yesterday I met 2 HUGE dogs and a little teeny one and we were cool). Activity level: moderate, not a crazy, attention-demanding puppy, but I'm not a lazy sack, either. Human words I know: sit, come, good girl (I hear that a lot). Toys: all, especially marrow bones and Nylabone dinosaurs. Treats: yes. Food: not enough IMHO, but I have to watch my waistline. Naptime: anytime, anywhere. Leash-walking: pretty darn good, but I gotta sniff stuff. At the barn, I am off-leash, SUPER FUN! I sleep in a crate at night, in my foster mom's room. Car rides are my thing, I am expert backseat driver all day! So, do you think I'm a match or know someone who would like a sweet girl like me? Spirit's affectionate, eager-to-please personality is going to make her a wonderful family member. She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives and eager to find a family to love! The adoption fee for this dog is $295, which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Vetting of current and past pets is very important to us, thus we will be speaking with the vet(s) listed on your application to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies), spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** To complete an online application, please click here, then email Courtney at CLust@petconnectrescue.org. Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Online application here Iris is a super friendly, hilarious, 1 year old, Boxer mix. Weighing in at 35lb this little girl is the perfect size to curl up with you on the couch like a lap dog, or to join you as a running/hiking partner and going for miles without missing a step. She is incredibly athletic, and loves to play with her doggy friends, but her first love is her person. This is not the type of dog who would enjoy being left alone for long periods of time. As long as she is around you, she will happily sit and wait patiently until you have time to spend with her, but she does want to be near you. She is house and crate trained, good with kids and other dogs. Not good with cats, especially ones that run!! She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives and eager to find a family to love! The adoption fee for this dog is $295, which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. My name is Melana and I'm afraid that I get overlooked because of my color. They say black dogs have a harder time getting adopted...but look, I have these super neat markings that look like someone drizzled caramel on me. I've been told that I'm as sweet as caramel too. Someone said that I was a 45lb Aussie mix, I don't know what that is but it sounds pretty fun! I'm an introvert so sometimes people think I'm too shy. Really I just need a little bit of time to warm up. The thing that helps me relax the most is my dog friends. I sure would like to have a whole family of canine siblings but even one will do just fine. I also heard some people chatting about how I was the best snuggler in the world, to me it just makes me feel the most secure, I love a long movie! I know how to be perfect in my crate and they say it is good for keeping me safe when no one is home. I hope I'm not forgetting anything, I just need patient parents and fun siblings. With that I will be the happiest dog in the world. I am spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives and eager to find a family to love! Posted Breed: Cattle Dog / Terrier (short coat). **If you're viewing this on Petfinder, please visit www.petconnectrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.** Introducing Chloe, a sweet 5 month old Cattle Dog/Terrier mix. Like most pups her age, she is playful, affectionate and curious. Chloe is good with other dogs, fine with all people and young enough to learn to respect cats. Chloe is a smart girl! She has already learned "sit" and "shake!" She is also both house and crate trained. Because she's young and becomes a tad anxious when left for long periods, she would not be a good match for someone gone an entire workday. She is spayed, up-to-date vaccines and preventatives and eager to find a family to love. The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which helps with the cost of routine vet care. This fee DOES NOT INCLUDE spay/neuter if the pup is not already spayed/neutered. If the animal you are adopting is not already spayed/neutered, you will be required to sign a contract legally obligating you to have the animal altered. ***Note that puppy adoption fees most often help generate revenue that goes towards older, special needs animals that need our help. Surgeries, heartworm treatment, boarding costs....all things that often result in adoptable dogs and cats being left behind to be euthanized. So adopting a puppy saves not just one life, but many! ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). **If you're viewing this on Petfinder, please visit www.petconnectrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.** Foster Update: Flo came in severely underweight but has filled in nicely, she is currently up to 41lbs from 30 a few weeks ago (the Lab in her is a foodie). Flo is great with people, she is an extremely friendly, goofy, affectionate young lady who would like nothing better than to snuggle beside you on the couch or in bed. She is very good with other dogs although she can be a bit intimidated by a lot of dogs rushing around and playing rough, so dog parks are not recommended for her. A big fenced yard with a friend or two and someone home a good part of the day would be ideal. Flo would be a fabulous addition to just about any family that is willing to love her. Flo is still a puppy, she can't be more than 12 months old. She could greatly benefit from an obedience class, as although she can be very good on the leash with an experienced handler, she can also get quite excited if there is a lot of external stimulus. Her puppy curiosity is adorable and she is gaining self confidence more and more each day. This sweet girl stole our hearts and we are so excited for her to find a forever home that is deserving of her unconditional love. Florence is an approximately 1 year old Lab/Terrier mix. Florence is a fun-loving, affectionate, gal who is good with other dogs and enjoys the company of all people. She is currently a bit underweight, but according to her foster mom, is a good eater and should be back to a healthy weight of 35 - 40 pounds in no time. She is a playful gal, but also settles nicely. Florence is currently being fostered in a home with a cat. While she's still not sure exactly what to make of her feline friend, her foster mom is working with her to respect the cat's space and might be fine if adopted into a home with cats. She has a loving, eager-to-please personality that is sure to steal your heart! She is house trained, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives and eager to find a family to love! The adoption fee for this dog is $295, which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. A resilient dog is a dog who lived 9+ years outdoors on a chain, got infected with Heartworm, and has a recurring cherry eye and is strong as ever. A resilient dog is a dog who, through all of that, is the sweetest, human loving dog anyone could want to meet. Nora is that resilient dog and she is hoping for a change of luck. Nora would like to finally become the beloved member of the family that she deserves to be. Nora holds no grudges, she appreciates a warm, fluffy bed, regular meals and an endless pile of dog toys. In return, Nora will teach you what it is to forgive and forget the things outside of our control and move forward in positivity. She may be about 10 years old, but she is living life like a new born puppy. Nora is so perfectly behaved in the house, loves and respects other dogs and cats and is house trained already. Nora is about 20lbs and we think she is a terrier type mix. Nora has been treated for Heartworm and now has some coughing when she gets very excited, so a calm household is best for her.
