Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Mixed. Currently Fostering in New England!! Meet Mama Amorina. Or as her foster calls her, Mama. She's a beautiful american bulldog mix who is looking for her second chance at life. She comes to Paws from our sister rescue in TN, Robyns Nest. Mama was found in rural Tennessee in a rain culvert the morning after a big rain storm with her puppy in tow. A good samaritan attempted to search for their family, but unfortunately no one claimed them. Mama has the sweetest disposition. We don't know what her past is, but we know she holds no ill will towards anyone. She enjoys playing with other dogs and is good with kids. Update: This past summer, Mama was romping with her canine friends in the yard and was injured. She was immediately brought to the emergency vet where it was discovered that she had a spinal injury that would require surgery. Supports of Robyn's Nest and PAWS New England rallied behind Mama, and raised the funds required to get her the surgery she desperately needed. The surgery was completed without any complications and she moved to a foster home for recovery. Mama underwent intense physical therapy and laser therapy so that she could regain function of her hind legs and walk. Volunteers droves hours each day just so she could attend. Many months after surgery and therapy, Mama has made an incredible recovery!! She does have a limp that makes her walk like a drunken lady. But we think that just makes her more adorable! Besides this, she has no other medical issues related to the injury. She is restricted from playing, and will be for the rest of her life, due to fear of re-injury. But that doesn't bother Mama. She is happy being a lazy love bug. It is believed that with continued physical therapy, Mama's limp would decrease and her walking would improve. Mama would love to go to a home where she could continue her therapy, but anywhere with a warm bed for snuggling sounds just fine to Mama. After all she has been through, she deserves a loving family to call her own. Mama charms everyone she meets instantly with her incredible personality. Some wonderful family is going to be lucky to call her theirs!! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Arriving in New England on 12/2!! Elizabeth is a delightful, happy girl who is always smiling. If you give her a kiss on the top of her head, rub her ears, or scratch her back she's in heaven. At 7 years old, she is sweet, calm, and well behaved. She gets along great with other dogs and loves people. She enjoys outside time but prefers to have a another dog or person go with her. Elizabeth was found as a tiny puppy in a roadside ditch. She spent her entire life on a sanctuary, and is now a foster home, where she is accustomed to the sounds of birds, chickens, and canine friends. She has not had much exposure to city sounds and startles easily from loud noises and sudden movements. She can be timid in new situations but adjusts quickly. We don't believe that Elizabeth is ready for a busy, active home. Her ideal home will have a slow pace, a caretaker who is home most of the time, and a fenced yard. Elizabeth loves going for walks and enjoys soaking in the bath tub. She is housebroken but has a small bladder and should not be left home alone for more than a few hours. m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10209330993941482&id=1522178203 Name: Elizabeth Breed: Labrador Retriever Mix Sex: Female Age: 7 years old Weight: 64 pounds Spayed/Neutered: Yes Vaccinations: Up to date Microchipped: Yes BASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS: Good with Children: Expected to do well. Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound / Treeing Walker Coonhound / Mixed. Fostering in New England!! Must have another friendly and confident dog in the home- no exceptions!! Channing was one of seven dogs rescued from a neglectful property in Tennessee. They grew up in a bleak backyard with no socialization, veterinary care, or human companionship. When their owners grew weary of the seven dogs, they called animal control to come and get them one by one. When Paws New England learned about this family of hounds, we simply had to get involved. We rescued all seven. Five have found their forever homes. Channing was one of the last to be rescued from the property. He spent months in boarding before moving into a New England foster home. Channing is blossoming in his foster home! His foster mom reports he's doing really well on his basic training. He's already mastered sit, go to bed and leave it. He continues to work on paw, down, come and watch me. He has learned to take treats gently and is completely house broken. Channing lives harmoniously live with his canine foster brother, Buddy, and 2 feline foster siblings! He continues to work on his confidence building, but we have big hopes for this boy! New situations or dogs can still be a little scary for him, but he's getting better every day! Channing is loves going for walks or long hikes with his foster dad. He's happiest when he gets plenty of exercise and play time! His foster mom reports that he loves walking around with his favorite stuffed animal in his mouth and it's absolutely adorable! Channing takes the lead from his friendly and confident foster brother, Buddy. We'd love to see him in a home with a friendly canine sibling to show him the ropes. In fact, this will be critical for Channing's overall longterm growth. He will need a patient and loving family who can make a commitment to providing him with the exercise his needs and the time he deserves to adjust to a new home. If you would like to be part of Channings fairy tale ending, we'd love to hear from you! I have been there for a few weeks and I am doing really well! They say I am one of the sweetest dogs they have ever met- I think that is obvious! I am very loving but because of my life so far I need a family that is understanding of some of my quirks. I am working on potty training but will need further training once in a home. I also had a run in with another dog so it is best if I can be the only dog in the house however I am currently living with another female dog and after slow and proper introductions she is doing well! I love playing with toys and chew treated. I ride well in the car.I also love running and walking! I would love an active family to call my own. Please consider giving me a chance. I promise to give you all the love I have in return! Posted Breed: Shepherd / Husky / Mixed. Poor Honey hasn't had the easiest life! She has been bounced around: from first being a stray to a high-kill shelter, and then when she thought she'd found the perfect home, her new family had a baby and she had to start all over again! Honey is truly as sweet as they come. She loves getting rubs from her foster mom and dad, and gives plenty of kisses. However, because of her past, Honey needs a lot of time to adjust to a new environment. She is very shy at first and will need a very patient and experienced person to bring her out of her shell and build her trust. Honey will do best in a quiet household with no children. She also needs a companion dog to give her confidence. Honey loves being outside, but be warned-- aside from her sweet personality and good looks, she is also a practicing escape artist, so she would do best with a fenced in yard! She is a very special girl once you are patient enough to earn her trust, and the right person will be rewarded with all the love you can imagine, and then some! This sweet girl is ready to join her forever home! Name: Honey Breed: Shepherd/Husky mix Sex: Female Age: Approx 3 years as of 7/27/17 Weight: 70 pounds as of 7/27/17 Spayed/Neutered: Yes Vaccinations: Up to date Heartworm: Negative (treated January 2016) Microchipped: Yes BASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS: Good with Dogs:Yes! Another confident dog would be great for Honey! Good with Cats: No, too curious Good with Kids: No young children. Best with older kids due to shyness Adoption Donation: $450 Dogs transported to New England are done so at a fee of $125.00 paid directly to the transporting company by Paws New England; no additional transport costs are responsibility of adopter.
