Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Carmella is a ball of energy! She is one happy girl that just wants your attention. She has done well at the Casa - she was transferred from another rescue in San Angelo because of her size and they did not have a foster available. Carmella does well with other dogs - caution is needed however if she is around other females her size or larger. She plays well with all our foster Chi's, our seniors and the current litter of 12 week old puppies, very gentle with them all. Carmella needs to go to a home with older children. If excited, she is a jumper and likes to paw for attention. Sometimes she forgets just how strong she is!! There are several times that she has almost knocked me down. Carmella does know commands and if given with a stern voice - she will calm down quickly. She needs a home where she can have the opportunity to burn off all that energy. With some leash training, she would be a great running buddy.

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: American Rat Pinscher
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher / Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Seeking loving FEMALE only companions! Look how happy this little guy is.... Buddy is a happy boy. Who is very intelligent and eager to please. He has learned several commands in a very, very short amount of time. He minds very well and will "adopt" you quickly. There are many evenings when I find that I have a foot warmer sitting at my feet. He plays well with all his foster siblings - big and small. He is not a chewer but seems to like toys. Buddy needs a home where there are no or limited MEN. He does GREAT with females of any age as well as boys - men however, he will bite. Sadly we found this out during an overnight homevisit. He does not attack or show visible aggression UNLESS a man tries to pet him or reach into Buddy's kennel.

      Breed: Border Terrier-Boxer Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer / Border Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Arra is a super sweet girl, fully vetted, house broken & crate trained. She loves the water - playing in the sprinkler or in the pool. She is excellent in the car and on walks. Plays well with all the dogs at Casa de Perro Animal Rescue - big, small, old, young - Arra doesn't mind just as long as they like to play as much as she does. She would be a great addition to a family with active kids. She would love to practice soccer or baseball with them. (wink-wink!)

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Lulu is the HAPPIEST dog you will ever meet! Already well mannered, housebroken and crate trained. She is a rough & tumble girl. She plays well with all size dogs but needs supervision if playing with dogs smaller than her. She is a wiggly butt that loves to snuggle. But does have separation anxiety, so she needs to be in a home with another dog or with someone who is there all the time.

      Monkey Boy

      rescue
      Breed: Boston Huahua
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Boston Terrier / Mixed (short coat). This little cutie was found by animal control while wandering the streets in Waco. Due to shelter overcrowding, he came to the Casa back in July 2016. The shelter named him Elroy but somehow his name was changed to Monkey Boy - I think because he kinda looks like the monkeys from Wizard of Oz! He is crate trained, housebroken and is not sure about being on a leash yet...I think he would prefer to just be carried anywhere that would require him to be on a leash. And he is a LAP DOG who likes to sleep under the covers. When its time to go outside, he will dance and spin in circles for you. Monkey is current on all his shots and is scheduled to be neutered very soon. He gets along well with all his foster siblings - big, small, old and young. Monkey also does well off leash when he is allowed to run "free" with our personal dogs. He doesn't wander off too far and obeys commands when told he's ventured too far and needs to come back. Monkey would do great with a family that has older kiddos or as a companion for an "older" person. Caution is advised if around smaller children. He is a tiny little thing with very little fear - so he can be easily injured.

Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier-Labrador Retriever Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Stuart will make a great addition to a family with kids of all ages but would do just fine hanging out with adults. He is going to be a mellow boy when he grows up. Of all the puppies, he's the most laid back and quiet. He loves to run and play, but is content just sitting in the sun and watching the world go round. He's adorable!! He minds very well and has already learned a few commands. Would love to be someone's not so small lapdog!! Stuart was born at the Casa on Oct 24, 2014 along with 8 siblings!! He is crate trained, housebroken, does well on a leash, knows some commands (for treats!), enjoys car rides and plays well with all the other foster dogs - big or small.

      Buttons

      rescue
      Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Toy Fox Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Buttons was an owner surrender to the Waco shelter back in June 2016. She is an older gal that is super sweet with a great personality. She is timid when you first meet her and depending on her mood can be "nippy". But once she gets to know you, she will request that you place at the foot of your bed when bedtime rolls around! She's not one to burrow under the covers, she just likes to keep your feet warm. Buttons has adjusted well to her new life with LOTS of other fosters - big & small. She will play with the other smaller dogs, until they annoy her! Then she will find an open kennel & just watch the chaos around her. She's a bit overweight and we are currently rationing her food intake to help slim her down some. But overall she's a healthy, happy older gal. She would be great for someone living in a retirement community or an apartment. Previous owners stated that she was fine with kids - but who knows if that owner was honest or not. Caution should alway be used when introducing dogs to children, especially Chihuahua breeds and smaller children.

      Lilo

      rescue
      Breed: Chihuahua
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Lilo is 10 years old and had her whole world turned upside down when her owner passed away and she was surrendered to the Waco shelter. We opted to rescue her from euthanasia and try to get her a new home to live our her life. Even though she is 10, being a Chihuhua she still has that many remaining years plus some! She is very timid but not aggressive when you first meet her. And she takes her own sweet time to warm up to you, even when bribed with food/treats. Lilo has adjusted well to the multitude of new foster siblings she now has to deal with. She does not have food agression and feels no others should either, she will just walk up to their bowl while they are eating and help herself! Lilo will need someone who is patient with her. She would be a great for those living in an apartment or retirement community. We are unsure as to how she is with kids, so caution will need to be given prior to introductions. But that is the normal protocal with ANY introductions!

      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix

      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Ruthie was born Oct 23rd with 7 other siblings. Their Mama has been a great mentor for them and has taugt them well. She has already been adopted, so any remaining mentoring they receive is from all the other foster dogs staying at the Casa. She LOVES everyone, is happy and is full of energy. Ruthie is going to be a BIG GIRL when she grows up. She almost looks Coon Hound or Dane mix - big feet, long legs, big floppy ears and droop jowls. She's adorable!! She minds very well and has already learned a few commands. She was the 1st to learn the concept of potty pads and to sit by door when she needs to go out to potty. Ruthie likes to be near you and will just walk up and sit at your feet to watch whatever it is you are doing. She likes to be loved on but is not real sure about being held or snuggled with.

Posted Breed: Akita / Mixed (short coat). Snickers has been in foster care for....5 years, 4 months and numerous days!!!! He's had lots of inquiries, a couple of home visits but has yet to find his fur-ever home. Snickers was rescued from a shelter where his previous owners surrendered him because they had to move. He is a very playful and loving dog. This boy is handsome and has tons of personality. He is well mannered and would like another dog as a companion. He is good with cats, dogs of all sizes and kids. "Snick", "Snicker-doodle" or just plain "Snickers" LOVES to go for walks, play in the sprinklers, swim in a pool, lake, river, pond, watering bucket --- he LOVES the water. And he LOVES his jolly ball!!! He will entertain himself for hours and hours. He also likes to 'talk' to you - this is where you get to hear the Beagle part of his genes!! He's a super sweet boy that just wants to play and be someone's buddy.
