More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Border Collie / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Hi, my name is Violet! I am a lab-border collie mix, 2-3 years old, about 45 lbs, and I have a medium energy level. I love running, cuddling, memory foam beds, and FOOD. When I got to the shelter a few months ago, I was terrified of everything. I was found in the woods and had never been around people before, plus I was sick with heartworms, so the shelter was especially stressful for me. Luckily I got to go to a foster home to get healthy and learn how to live the good life with a family. Now I’m a happy, playful pup! My forever home wish list: -A patient family who will wait for me to come out of my shell -Another dog (or a few!) to keep me company [cats and older kids are cool too] -Lots of kisses -Couch privileges preferred ;) For more info, email foster@fultonanimalservices.com or check me out on Instagram @violet_the_foster_pup!

      rescue
      Breed: Labrador Retriever
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (medium coat). Little Starfish is very scared in the shelter. The noisy, stressful environment is too much for her and when outside she will often run in circles with nervous energy. Given a few minutes without a lot of distractions, Starfish will come over and climb on your lap. She desperately wants to feel safe and secure. Over the last few weeks she has grown more comfortable with the staff and volunteers and we have gotten to know a silly, playful, and cuddly young adult who will thrive in the right environment. She is treat motivated, already knows sit, and is ready to learn more. She may never be the confident dog who goes to the park, but she so deserves to feel loved and safe in a foster or furever home.

I NEED A RESCUE GROUP TO STEP UP FOR ME YOLANDA 482972 5 YEARS OLD HEARTWORM POSITIVE 58 LBS I don''t know why my people moved away and left me. I was alone in the backyard with my fur brother for days without food or water. We were really scared and finally a nice man came and picked us up. I get lots of food and water now. The people are really nice, but I''m still a little afraid. My favorite thing is when they take me outside. That is all I''ve ever known so it feels strange to live in a small kennel. They tell me that I could have a chance to live inside with a nice person. They say this person will take good care of me and I''ll never be abandoned again. Could this be true? Are you that person to give me a chance?
