More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Atlanta, GA
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Money is a staff and volunteer favorite. He has the best temperment and is the perfect balance of energy and calm. He was fortunate enough to live in foster care for quite awhile. Sadly he was returned when another dog entered the household. Being returned to the shelter can be very stressful and depressing. Money is no exception to that. He is confused and uncertain as to why he doesn''t live in a home anymore. He lavishes any attention that he can get. He promises to be the best friend and companion ever and would love the same in return. Meet Money at our Avondale location!

I ended up here because my owner died. I am a very happy boy and very trusting. I will be easy to train as I love treats and am very motivated by them. I am told that I am a big boy and I don''t realize my size. So it would probably be best for me to be in a home with children that are older so I don''t knock them down. I am really sweet but I just don''t want to hurt anyone. I really would like to be back in a home as soon as possible. Please stop by and meet me soon. We can hang out in the yard and get to know each other. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). IN FOSTER CARE Jasmine 475924 40lbs 1 year old Fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed and heartworm negative Jasmine (Jazzi) is a young adult lab/pit mix with a lot of personality. Found as a stray, she''s been very loved in her foster home and is looking for her forever home. Jazz is house broken and crate trained, is working on leash manners and walks well in a harness. Also, she enjoys playing with humans best and craves attention and activity to stay happy. She loves to snuggle and to be a lapdog. She would do best in a home with older kids and adults as she is a very excited girl and can be jumpy. She is working on learning to sit for attention. She does love all the attention she can get so would do best with a dog who is OK sharing the spotlight. If you are interested in meeting Ms. Jasmine, please email adoptions@fultonanimalservices.com today! *UPDATE* 12-4-15 Notes from foster family Jasmine has been living with us since early July. She is still a rambunctious pup and likes to play actively. She''s been around our cats but they choose not to be near her. She is crate trained and stays in her crate at night and when we have company. She''s been pretty good with older children (ours are 11 and 9) but can be overwhelming for a toddler because she is so bouncy. She likes to chase and can play with a toy by herself. She also loves to chew so will need a Kong, thick rope, or other strong toy. We''re still working on company manners - she still jumps - and leash manners. She''s very sociable with humans but is a decent watchdog; she''ll let you know if someone is near the house. She likes to run in the yard with our older greyhound. He''ll tell her when he''s had enough of her. She also loves to snuggle, but it does take her a few minutes to settle down. She''s come a long way since moving in here

I NEED A RESCUE GROUP TO STEP UP FOR ME YOLANDA 482972 5 YEARS OLD HEARTWORM POSITIVE 58 LBS I don''t know why my people moved away and left me. I was alone in the backyard with my fur brother for days without food or water. We were really scared and finally a nice man came and picked us up. I get lots of food and water now. The people are really nice, but I''m still a little afraid. My favorite thing is when they take me outside. That is all I''ve ever known so it feels strange to live in a small kennel. They tell me that I could have a chance to live inside with a nice person. They say this person will take good care of me and I''ll never be abandoned again. Could this be true? Are you that person to give me a chance? Out in the yard she was so excited to be able to run and play. When introduced to a dog through the fence, she was very excited, friendly and ready to play. Patty is fearful in the kennel with all the dogs and loud barking. So because of this we are having to kennel her alone. That does not give us many options on where to put her and space is limited. She is about medium energy and when she gets excited, her wiggle butt gets moving. She loves people and seems to enjoy other dogs. Please come in and meet this little beauty.
