Sophia was pulled from the San Pedro shelter just in time! She was dropped off with her puppies who have been long adopted. Volunteers wrote to us to save her life as she deserved much better and is such a gentle soul. Boy were they right! Once Sophia was in her foster home, she became a playful little girl. She loves to play with her foster brother. She is 1 year old and loves to be loved. She is working on leash training, sometimes noises, and certain things startle her. But after what she has been though can you blame her? If you can give this girl a loving home, please visit www.stellashope.org to begin the adoption process.

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Bernese Mountain Dog
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Costa Mesa, CA
Posted Breed: Bernese Mountain Dog. Nikita is a 3 year old sable coated shepherd . and the Ying to Nellys Yang . She is very true to the breed and loves to run . she would make an excellent running partner. she is non reactive to other dogs , doesn't have a mean bone in her body however she can be mouthy as it seems she was never taught manners so kids over 15 would be best .Nikita is very intelligent and eager to please which will make training her very easy . cats are unknown . Nelly is 3.5 years old much like her best friend she is lacking in manners and basic training but unlike her buddy she is stubborn and will take a bit more work to train . Both dogs came to us very underweight and covered in fleas , Nelly was suffering from horrible flea dermatitis which has left her coat very thin and patchy in the rear . Both dogs have been fully vetted are spayed , current on vaccines , microchipped and healthy . We will continue to work with these girls on their manners and basic training but ideally placing them into the right forever home as soon as possible is ideal . They have suffered tremendous neglect and need stability . The ideal home( must have yard ) would be a family environment with older children . The dogs would need to be inside family pets with access to the outside fenced yard . Time and commitment is a must . large breed dog experience is also a must . we ask anyone entertaining the idea of adopting these girls to educate themselves on their breeds . They both have lots of love and loyalty to give to the right family , who will in turn give them the stability and leadership they seek . We will accept out of state applications from any bordering state .

Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Mixed. My name is -Sasha Photo 1 - American Bulldog Mix Dog for adoption in Orange County - Ask About Me Help me get seen & adopted! Facts about Sasha: Breed: American Bulldog Mix Color: Red Age: 3 years Size: 55 lbs Sex: Female I am already spayed, housetrained, good with kids. This beauty is SASHA! Lulu via email at nrhome12@gmail.com for adoption information! This spunky lil girl is Sasha, a 3 yr. old American Bulldog mix who just can't seem to catch a break. See, she had a family that bought her from someone in front of a store, but after a while the landlord decided she wasn't allowed anymore and she had to go. When she lived with her family she had 3 human sisters ages 7, 5 and 1 and loved them all day long. She interacted with the neighbor's cats w no issues. She would be best in a home where she is the only dog getting all the lovin for herself! With her tough start, she's developed some fear and reactivity at strangers who pet too long. We had her evaluated by an dog psychologist/trainer, she's a typical bully dog always thinking (busy mind). Physically, she goes in spurts like a chill walk but sometimes wants to run then lie down. Sasha loves a good roll in the grass! She's pretty funny, and smart but has trust issues that can be worked on with an experienced, confident handler who is consistent with leadership and structure. Sasha has a lot to give to the right person or family that will help her learn that humans can be trusted again. Are you that family? If so, please contact Lulu via email at nrhome12@gmail.com to meet SASHA!

      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Costa Mesa, CA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. *THIS IS A TWO DOG ADOPTION POST. DOGS MUST BE ADOPTED TOGETHER* I am looking for a very special home for these two . Emerson and Baby against all odds have survived distemper , not only having the virus but having neurological distemper. They have been with me ( Holli ) since 1/20 .The first 45 days w me they received round the clock care , literally. I drove them to Texas for the NVD spinal tap , they got meds every two hours , fed every 3 hours and proved to me every day they had a will to live that couldn't be ignored .They have been given the best of the best care in an effort to overcome and beat the virus. Today they are distemper free per the most accurate blood test. They can not be separated under any circumstances as they have a bond that if broken I'm truly afraid would cause them to suffer more than the virus ever caused them to. They would be considered special needs dogs and I truly hope there is an angel out there who would want to give them a forever home. I wish more than anything I could keep them but I can't , I have 4 dogs as it is and travel back and forth to Baja and honestly they deserve to be the center of someone's world as they have been mine for the last 3 months. Just to be clear these distemper survivors aren't broken and don't have the plague . The virus is gone it isn't coming back and they will not get worse . These are facts from a well respected vet who has more knowledge about distemper than anyone I have communicated with since day one ( trust me I have talked to over 30 )They are survivors and after all they have been through deserve the same amount of love and devotion any other dog does. Emerson and Baby do have neurological issues that over time will subside. They are happy , playful , smart , affectionate pups . Although there are no guarantees with ANY dogs future health , I do trust the opinion of this vet I have been given guidance from through this whole nightmare. She herself has a distemper survivor with neuro issues. I have stopped reading all the different opinions all over the Internet, as at the end of the day facts are facts and unless you see one of these survivors through it all the way you can't claim the prognosis is poor. If you could possibly be the person that would open your home to these two very special dogs or know someone who may have a soft spot for the under dog ,please email me your contact info and we can discuss the facts, their future and their needs . As I type this tears run down my cheek as I honestly don't know how I will let them go , but this is what it's all about . I saved their lives so they could bring joy to someone else's life . I have spent many hours crying since they came into my home but many more smiling and laughing . They are true miracles and they deserve the best, Holli stellashope@gmail.com

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Anika is an amazing 6-7 yr old German Shepherd dog . She found herself almost bald and abandoned at a high kill shelter . She had a horrific skin condition and was in alot of pain ..but this did not break her spirit what her humans did to her as she remains the most loving dog ever . She had healed up and all her hair grew back and then set off to her journey of behavioral modification as she lacked in social skills with other dogs. Anika has completed 5 weeks of extensive training at Doggie Do Good and comes with a LIFETIME guarantee for her training transferable to her adopter . Anika requires a strong pack leader as an owner and will do great in a home with children and other large breed dogs . Stella's Hope is an all breed K-9 rescue located in Orange County, CA. Location: Costa Mesa, CA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Hurley is a 4 year old neutered male blue American Pit Bull Terrier who loves to play fetch! Hurley has a long history with Stella's Hope as he was first adopted as an 8 week old puppy. He was returned by his family after several years. He has become over protective of their family. He went to Doggy Hydeaway and after several rounds of antibiotics and vet visits, they discovered he had allergies and was reacting out of pain. They found a vitamin supplement that has successfully kept his allergies under control for over 6 months and he has blossomed! He is a medium to high energy boy who will fetch till he drops, and also loves to take long walks, or run along side a bike or go jogging with his human. He is extremely loyal to his family but Hurley will require plenty of exercise to keep him balanced, as well as strong leadership from his human(s). He is crate trained, walks wonderfully on leash, and as long as his human is the leader, he is a willing follower. If the human does not provide proper leadership, Hurley will assume the role and guard to protect his human. He is very friendly with all humans but would be best around older teenagers rather than small children. Not sure about cats.
