Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). My name is zzCecily and I love to give and receive attention. If you let me, I love to sit in your lap and sleep in your bed. But I know I can't always do that so I don't mind if I have to sleep in a dog bed with the other dogs on the floor. I'm a young girl with young girl energy and I really like to play with the other dogs at my foster house. A home with another doggie companion would be great for me. I also love kids, and I'm learning to keep all four feet on the ground when I play with them. I am about a year old and weigh less than 50 pounds. There has been so much to learn about living in a house, but my foster family is teaching me all kinds of neat things like how to use a doggy door and how to know when it is time to play and when it is time to relax. I can't wait to meet you and show you how sweet I am!If you have any questions about me please contact uncagedwoman@gmail.com Disclaimer: This dog is a participant in the Paws in the City Guest Dog Program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by the foster, not by Paws in the City. A $200 adoption fee is due at the time of adoption and will go to the foster. To meet this dog, please fill out an adoption application at the Paws in the City website http://pawsinthecity.org/adopt.htm.

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Hi, my name is Roo and I'm about as cute as they come. I have the most beautiful reddish brown coat, stunning eyes and the cutest ears around! Now, let me tell you a little bit about myself. My foster family is still learning about me but so far they think I'm awesome. They tell me they love watching me learn to 'dog.' See, I came to them really scared and would barely let them touch me but now I am learning that pets and kisses are awesome and my FAVORITE thing to do is run in the backyard with my foster sister. I would probably need a fur sibling to show me the ropes but I came to my foster family already knowing how to go potty outside, I am crate trained and love treats and bones! I still have a lot to learn but I'm excited about this new life. If you have lots of love and patience for a cute pup like me, ask to meet me! Posted Breed: Dachshund / Mixed. At only eleven pounds I may be small, but I promise I will make your life complete. I'm a cute five year old brown and white spotted Dachshund. I am shy when I first meet people, but once I warm up to you I'm a really friendly boy. I am well behaved, and unlike the real Scooby Doo, I am very calm. I walk nicely on a leash, but when you let me off the leash, I am totally interested in checking everything out my surroundings. I was a stray until Paws in the City rescued me from DAS, but I believe I was someone's pet at one time because I'm just so sweet and well mannered. When are you going to come meet me? If you can't adopt Eli but you have the availability to foster him, that would be a great start. He loves to play and has loads of energy, so being at the boarding facility is not an optimal situation for Eli. Posted Breed: Dalmatian / Great Pyrenees / Mixed (medium coat). zzRuby is a beautiful 3 year old Dalmation and Pyrenees mix who is extremely affectionate and very accepting and loving towards new people. zzRuby loves giving kisses and playing with a four-legged playmate. Although a sometimes alpha female, she is fantastic with male dogs and lived with her sister although they did fuss occasionally. (Don't all sisters?) zzRuby has a beautiful coat, a very playful and loving disposition, understands basic commands, and is great on a leash. Ruby is also spayed and microchipped. After being left behind when her family moved we promised to find her a loving and permanent home. This sweet girl has been with us for one year, and while waiting patiently, Ruby is ready and excited to find her forever family or new best friend! Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Hi! I'm zzWinslow (Winny), and I am a young pup. I was found off of Hwy 30 and zzWinslow (by the fair). I was found in pretty rough shape, but I am doing better already. I need to put on a few pounds and my skin condition needs to clear up, but I am eating regularly and on antibiotics. I have a small limp where a car may have hit me. Besides that, the vet says I am a very healthy girl. My foster mom describes me as very affectionate, good natured, lazy, smart, charming, silly, clumsy, cuddly, sweet, and very loyal. I just want to sit next to you and get all the loves. I love to be outside and go on long walks. I am house trained. Since my mom rescued me, I have never had an accident inside. What I really need is a furever home. I love all the attention and would really love a family where I can cuddle and take long walks. My favorite time is when it is just me and my mom. If you want a calm and loving dog then I’m the pup for you. I will love on you every day I can. More about Winny: • Medium-length coat, brown- dark and light • About 40 pounds, but I should be around 50 • Will get fully vaccinated 10/22/16 • House-trained • Gets along with dogs- not cat tested yet but we can if needed. Posted Breed: Pharaoh Hound / Great Dane / Mixed (short coat). My name is Scotch, and I've been waiting patiently for my furever home for a while now and, quite honestly, the waiting is getting old. I'm more than ready for my furever family, thank you very much. I'm a handsome two and half year old medium to large guy - the rescue folks think I'm a Pharaoh hound and Great Dane mix - with a gorgeous tawny coat and beautiful green eyes. And I'm graceful, too! Or so the rescue folks tell me. Had a somewhat rough beginning, but thanks to all the training the rescue folks have invested in me, I'm now much more confident in myself. I'd make a wonderful addition to your family - as long as I'm the only four-legged family member and there's no young children around. The ideal human will be a strong leader for me and help me continue to mature. The wonderful folks here at Paws in the City will provide training to the right person. Please consider making me a part of your family. You won't regret it! Posted Breed: Bulldog / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). I'm Maggie, a Bulldog/Boxer mix. People tell me I'm almost a senior dog (they keep insisting I'm about 8 years old), but I have no idea what they're talking about. Senior dogs are OLD. And lazy. I am NOT old. Or lazy, thank you very much. I'm quite active, as a matter of fact. I love, love, love walks...but they do need to be structured. I'm a bit head strong, so I'll need a family that'll let me know I'm not the boss, and will provide me the structure I need to thrive. The people here tell me I've done really, really well in my training program and as a bonus, Paws in the City will train my adopter too! Sounds like a win- win to me! Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat). Meet zzStaley, a Min Pin/Terrier mix, about 4 years old, neutered, short/docked tail, 30 lbs. In good health, current on heart worm prevention and vaccinations. zzStaley's original owner left Staley and his sister crated, alone, in an apt for 12-18 hours a day. Neighbors complained about them crying so the owner surrendered them both. The current foster responded to a Facebook plea and has had zzStaley since January. zzStaley is vey smart. He knows sit and lay. A routine suits him best. He prefers to have his own plastic bowl (metal bowls frighten him) and his own eating area. He is very loving to the person he bonds. And is protective of everyone. When someone cries or yells he tries to figure out the aggressor and will bark/nip until the situation calms down. He is a protector. He is not aggressive with other animals or with people in general. zzStaley needs a calm loving home preferable without small children and maybe as an only dog. He is doggie door trained to potty outside. He would make a fantastic companion for a single woman or a couple without children or an older retired couple. Posted Breed: Doberman Pinscher / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Buddy has been through a lot since he was rescued at White Rock Lake by a nice couple . They tried to find someone to take him without much luck and ended up at their Mom's house in Dallas. He was doing fine although not getting enough attention . Unfortunately the next door neighbors are backyard breeding- and one of them attacked Buddy through the fence and he almost lost his foot. He was recovering in the couple's bedroom but they knew they needed a better place for him... that's when we stepped in. No other rescues in Dallas responded to their pleas. We are all so full...but sometimes you just have to make room. He is at the rescue now. He is over his shyness, might be a little slow to trust , but once he knows you he is a doll...he loves to play tug a war with a rope toy, plays with a football, loves to walk on a leash and go in our woods to play. He is a great dog, and will be a terrific protector of his home and family. He likes to protect his food but was said to be living with a Yorkie. Just separate feed bowls and supervision will control the situation. He would do well with some obedience training, but he is a big puppy at about one year old with lots of energy and gives sweet kisses, too. If you think Buddy might fit well into your household, please go to: http://www.pawsinthecity.org/adopt.htm "Buddy is a participant in the Paws in the City Guest Dog Program, so his ongoing care and custody are provided by his foster, not by Paws in the City."
