Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Adoption Donation/Homecheck/Application REQ'D Hi Everyone, I'm Diamond. I'm a new mom to nine little babies, even though I'm still just a baby myself. At only one year old, I found myself without a home. The angels at Barks of Love found me dining at the back entrance of Jack in the Box. I happily jumped into the car of my foster mom who soon learned that I had little puppies in my belly. As soon as my babies were born, everyone marveled at how nurturing and sweet I am as a mom. They weren't that surprised though because they say I am a very loving and snuggly girl. I quickly and nicely adapt to new people and situations. My foster family says that I'm very trusting, playful, and live to give kisses. You know what they say, "Diamonds are a girl's (or guy's) best friend." Treat me to a Jack in the Box and I will repay you in an abundance of love and kisses. Fill out an application to bring me home and I will be the brightest diamond in your life. More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Lhasa Apso / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Donation/Homecheck/Application REQ'D Hi Everyone, My name is Roxy, which means "dawn" or "bright." I live up to my name by brightening up the lives of all of the people I meet. I've been told that I'm a total sweetheart by the people who have met me, and don't discriminate against those who walk on four legs instead of two. I get along splendidly with other doggies and cats. I love going on walks, and am a pro walking on a leash. I'm 11 years old, but I look and act like a puppy. I'm a Lhasa-mix, which is why I have a luxurious coat. I'm up-to-date on my shots and am spayed. While I am blind in one eye, once I meet my forever family, I will see the love as clearly with one eye as I would with two. Please consider filling out an application to bring me home into your family to start a bright, new future together. Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Adoption Donation/Homecheck/Application REQ'D Hi Everyone, I'm Franklin, a pocket-sized Chihuahua, weighing in at seven mighty pounds. I may be small, but I have a big personality. I'm a nine year old boy, but I still look like a wee puppy. I'm housebroken, and love going out for walks with my people. While I'm Mr. Independent, I also love to be near my people, and try to keep them in my line of vision at all times. Since I'm such a small boy with a big personality, my ideal home would be an adult-only, quiet, and loving home. The lovely folks at Barks of Love are not sure how I am with other dogs and cats yet, but as long as they're calm and well-behaved, I should be fine with furblings. To be Frank(lin), I'm an amazing dog. Please consider filling out an application to bring me into your family. I can't wait to meet you! I am a three year old lab mix and about 60 pounds, but I think I'm way smaller because my favorite place to be is in my person's lap. When I'm being sassy, my foster mama calls me Booger, but when I'm being classy, she calls me Bogart. I'm housebroken and know basic commands, but I would be best as an only dog because I love my one-on-one time with my people. What are you waiting for? Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Donation/Homecheck/Application REQ'D This beautiful brindle girl was found running down the street in Colton California. Her foster, who found her, was able to call her over and invite her along for a car ride. On the way home he decided to name her Colbie. After picking up a leash at home they headed to the vet to scan for a microchip. Unfortunately, she didn't have one. The next day he made "found dog" flyers and plastered the neighborhood with them and he had a second vet scan unsuccessfully for a microchip. He set up a go fund me and some lovely people donated to have Colbie vaccinated and spayed. He decided to independently foster her and integrate her into his pack for the time being. Once it was clear her home could not be found her foster reached out to Barks of Love who took her in as one of their rescue dogs while he continued to foster. Colbie loves to go on walks, hikes, swim, play with toys, playing with her temporary pack, enjoys kids, and is an overall pleasure to have around. She is a bit energetic so she would do fabulous with equally energetic siblings and an experienced owner to regulate and control her energy. An active owner would be ideal. She is up to date on shots, spayed, crate trained, potty trained, and walks great on a leash. My mom is Diamond and she's still looking for a forever home too! I got adopted, but my family already had a dog that didn't really get along with me, so we all decided it was best that I look to move in with some new roommates! I'm 10 months old and have lots of energy! I'd love a forever home that will take me out to be really active and play with me. I'm okay with other dogs, but I don't really like dogs smaller than me.
