Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). HI, I'M DIEGO! DO YOU LOVE TO SNUGGLE AND PLAY? ME TOO! Diego came into rescue January 2015, when he was 1-2 years old. It seems this sweet boy spent his short life living outdoors at the end of a chain. Oh, how Diego has blossomed in foster care! He adores people of all ages, including children, and and absolutely craves attention. He may be a little too enthusiastic for small children, so care will need to be taken in that regard. Diego hasn't gotten the memo that he's larger than your average lap dog, as he loves to get as close as possible to snuggle and offer pittie kisses. This very smart pup will sit, shake, down and rollover on command; we're still working on "stay" and "come." His leash manners could use some polishing, although a proper harness and additional training will be beneficial. Diego has excellent car manners and will often nod off in the passenger seat. Toys rock his world and this silly guy is always ready to romp and play. He'll chase a ball all day long but hasn't gotten the hang of returning it to you just yet. While Diego shares nicely with humans, he's not inclined to share toys, treats or food with other dogs and may act out in an aggressive manner. He's housebroken and crate trained in foster care and may just need a refresher course in his new home, as he gets the hang of a new routine. Diego is open to meeting friendly, submissive dogs but will likely not do well with dogs who make him feel challenged or threatened. He's not a fan of kitties, so we recommend there be no cats in his home. If you can offer Diego the exercise, playtime and loving care he craves, he's ready to make your acquaintance. A fenced yard is would be ideal. He's had some hard knocks in life, but Diego has shaken off the dust and is ready for his happily-ever-after to begin. All of the dogs/cats listed are located in or near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Adoption fees are $245 for dogs ($95 for Seniors 8 years+) and $60 for cats, to help cover vet bills for spay/neuter of all adoptable pets as well as getting them up-to-date on their basic vaccinations, and for starting heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Puppies and kittens will go into adoptive homes as Foster-to-Adopt until old enough to have spay/neuter surgery. No pet will be officially adopted without being spayed/neutered and vaccinated (unless there are health risks in doing so). We will require an approved on-line application which is available on our website at ForeverLoveRescue.com. Be prepared for a Meet-and-Greet and a basic home check to be done on or before adoption day, to ensure that the pet can be safe in the new home and that everyone involved is comfortable with each other. More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). HI, I'M BO!  DO YOU HAVE LOTS OF TOYS?  LET'S PLAY! Bo is as playful and lovable as they come, and is very much a toy addict!  Toy collecting is his hobby, especially balls.  He would love a home with a great ball-throwing human!  Bo does well with female dogs, calm dogs and small dogs... just not equal sized males.  He is house trained and aims to please.  Sadly, Bo spent much of his early life confined to a crate for days on end.  As a result, he is terrified of crates, so we are asking that he not be kept crated ever again if at all possible.  This very sweet 4 year old pup has traveled a rocky road.  Are you the one who will offer Bo the love and security he so richly deserves?  A fenced yard to run and play in would be ideal as he does have an adventurous spirit! Joey

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Labrador Retriever Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Gettysburg, PA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). ARE YOU AN EXPERIENCED DOG PERSON, LOOKING TO HAVE JUST THAT ONE SPECIAL DOG? JOEY WOULD LOVE TO MEET YOU! This amazingly handsome pooch came to us from a local shelter back in June 2014, when he was about 1 1/2 years old. Joey absolutely adores people and is as loving and affectionate as can be. Shhh, this should be a secret, but Joey wants you to know that he spends his nights snuggling and snoozing in bed with his foster parents. He pays close attention to people and happens to give the best hugs and kisses. Joey is crate-trained, housebroken and aims to please. This smart guy will sit on command and is treat-motivated. He's a very good traveling companion in the car and will want to spend as much time with you as possible. His leash manners could use some work, but this is easily remedied with training and use of a proper harness. So, why has this fantastic dog been waiting so long for his happily-ever-after? It boils down to this...we are being extremely picky about who we send Joey home with. Although he is indeed a most wonderful dog, Joey isn't for everyone. He's quite selective when it comes to other dogs; he either likes or strongly dislikes new dogs on sight. If he dislikes a dog, he will try to act-out aggressively. He has done well with friendly, submissive female dogs, as well as male dogs of like size who are laid back and give him space. He doesn't take kindly to "in your face" or pushy dogs at all and hasn't done well in meetings with small dogs or cats. Joey will need an experienced owner who completely understands that, while he is a treasure, he must be watched closely and handled properly in the presence of other animals. This is not a guy for doggy parks or leisurely strolls around a neighborhood when other dogs are out and about. Care will also need to be taken on visits to the vet, as he'll need to be kept away from other animals in the clinic. Ideally, Joey's new home should have a decent sized yard with a privacy fence that prohibits him from seeing neighboring dogs or animals passing nearby. To sum it up, Joey is all about people and loves spending time with adults and children alike. He is completely submissive and accommodating with people; not a mean bone in his body. He snuggles and plays with the children in his foster home, showering them in hugs and kisses. To meet Joey is to love him, and we are confident the right forever home is out there. If you are looking to have that ONE special dog as your best friend and loyal companion, Joey's waiting to meet you. He'll offer you a heart as big as the sun and all the fuzzy cuddles you need.
