Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Staffordshire Bull Terrier (short coat). I AM A GOOD BOY!!! I AM!!!! And fortunately for me, the people who know and love me KNOW that I am a good boy too!!! Most of the world does not like a little boy like me. They think that I am scary. But all I want to do is have someone to love, have them love me back, and play and play and play. What is so scary about that??? I am an incredibly happy boy and have been told I am really funny. I absolutely LOVE to give kisses. My kisses are so powerful I can even change your hairdo with them :) I do have more energy than a "couch potato" dog, but that is just because I know how much more fun it is to get out there and run instead of watching someone run on tv. Am I right? Exercise is good for everyone and when you have great muscles like I do, you have to make sure to stay in shape. So I need a home that will help me keep up a good exercise routine, but I am flexible as to what that is. I can go running with you. We can play fetch. I am really good at fetch. Or you could teach me how to run alongside you while you ride a bicycle. Lets just get out there and do something together!!!! I have been staying with the Scout's Honor trainer since she has more room for me to run around, and she also loves me. She has taught me a whole bunch of stuff and helped me with my manners. Sometimes I get so excited I forget to use them, but she will give you tips on how to help me remember them. I hear they are really important and even more so when you are a little pit bull like me. I am about 6 years old now, I have been in rescue for a while which I don't understand. Who does not want a cute, happy, fun loving guy like me around? If you think you and I would be best buds forever go ahead and fill out the application so we can meet. I am looking for both a foster and a forever home. So whichever one you want, I am cool with that. It costs the rescue about $400 a month to keep me in boarding. If you could foster me that would help them tremendously. They will continue to cover all my vet care and other expenses. If you cannot foster me but still want to help me out, you can donate to them. Just click the donate tab at www.scoutshonor.org and indicate that the donation is for my care. These guys have helped me out a lot and never stopped believing in me so I just want to do my part to help out. I could at least ask. I am up to date on vaccines, neutered (ouch!) and microchipped.

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Look at these gorgeous girls!!!! Margo and Mallory are amazing dogs looking for a very special home TOGETHER!!!! Margo is the Black and Tan, and Mallory is the blonde. We originally thought the girls were sisters but after their spays our vet said that Margo was most likely the very young mother of Mallory. Margo is just about two and a half years old, and Mallory is about a year and a half. They are clearly a type of hound mix, just not sure which. These beautiful girls were at Harris County set to be euthanized. But we just could not let them go. We were hoping they would be able to move on to homes of their own, however, separating them has not gone well. Mallory curls up in to a ball and refuses to eat or play. And both girls cry, howl and bay trying to find the other. What is the point in saving them, if not to let them have the lives they clearly want...TOGETHER!!! They are incredibly loving. They are quite strong so tend to be a little much for super young kids. They love to run and play, but also like to cuddle up next to each other. Click HERE to see them playing at Daycare! And they love hugs!!!! Both girls are up to date on vaccines, spayed and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting /fostering these girls TOGETHER, please fill out the appropriate application at www.scoutshonor.org The only good thing these girls have had is each other! Please help us find the home that shows them together, how much more is out there.

      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Sweet Clapton! The stories this darling boy could tell if he could talk. Clapton had been living in a bad area of Houston with his buddy Pattie in poor conditions for quite a while. Recently, someone picked both of them up and took them to BARC (Houston pound). Unfortunately, once turned in in their bad conditions, they only had 72 hours until they were to be euthanized. Luckily for them, we were able to quickly figure out where they could go and sent someone to pick them up. They are now safe and resting comfortably, getting the love and care they need. Clapton is an adult Lab mix and weighs about 65 pounds right now. Clapton is very sweet and friendly and rides great in the car. Clapton is so happy! At the boarding facility he gets so excited when anyone comes to see him. His whole boy just wiggles. He's such a lover and loves to lean on your and cuddle. He's great with his friend Pattie and seems fine with other dogs of any size. He's just a bundle of happiness!! Clapton had entropean when we rescued him and he likley had been dealing with that his whole life. It is so miserable - it's where your eyelashes literally rub on your eyeballs! Painful!! Well, Clapton had surgery a few weeks ago to correct this and he can SEE for the first time ever!! Gosh, you can tell he's so happy and appreciative! If you are interested in adopting Clapton, please give him a chance and let him into your home. We promise you that you won't be disappointed. His best bud Pattie has landed herself an amazing home and now it is Clapton's turn!! Contact us at info@scoutshonor.org.

Posted Breed: Sheep Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Bonita is a lovely older girl who has had a tough life. Turned into the pound and confused on why she was there all of a sudden, she is looking for a loving, understanding home who can introduce her to the joys of living with a family who will love and cherish her. All she asks is for someone to take her on nice walks and be there to provide the human company she so desperately wants. New owners will need to be understanding and allow Bonita to settle in and come out of her shell in her own time. If you can give her plenty of much needed TLC as an adopter, we’d love to hear from you.

      Breed: Labrador Retriever

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Meet King, a 15-year-old lab that was dumped at the pound by his "owner". He has a massive basketball sized tumor between his front two legs that impedes his ability to walk. His owner claimed she had no money or transportation to do anything about this basketball-sized tumor impeding her dog’s walking. Amazingly she was able to dump him at the pound so he could die alone. This didn’t happen overnight!! King is as sweet and goofy as they come. It's sickening that he’s been forced to carry this horrendous appendage around like a ball and chain. King is 15, but he sure doesn’t act it. This boy has plenty of pep to this step. He such a sweetheart and would be such an easy foster! He's doing great and is in a foster home. His surgery went very well and we just received all of the biopsy results. Pretty good news overall, but we are definitely thankful that we had the large mass on his chest and the tumor that was found when he was neutered removed. Turns out the large mass on his chest was a mast cell tumor but our vets got clean margins, so we are optimistic that we got everything and it had not spread. The tumor on one of his testicles was a Sertoli tumor – biggest concern for spreading elsewhere – to prostate and/or surrounding lymph nodes. 10-14% of these metastasize. Our vets got complete excision with clean margins. We know he feels a million times better now that he is able to walk without the obstruction of the large mass. He is such a sweetheart! Now, we need to find this great boy a forever home to live out his years. Please complete an adoption app at www.scoutshonor.org.

      Breed: Bagle Hound

Posted Breed: Basset Hound / Beagle / Mixed (short coat). Ellie is the sweetest little girl who with less than 12 hours of care decided she was going to LIVE!!!!! When we first met this baby, it truly knocked the wind out of us. We had seen pictures but thought it was a thin coat of grey and white fur. We were wrong!!! See her playing HERE This little baby, at just about a year old, did not have a piece of fur but did instead have horrible blood stains all over her. The grey and white was her skin, thick like an elephant's. She would not left her head or even walk and you could see nothing of her eyes. Straight to the vet where she was given a bath, some pain meds and started on iv fluids. By the next morning this little girl was sitting up, yawning, and leaning her head into hands willing to scratch away some of the nastiness that had tried to take over her little body. Ellie needs some continued vet care but the most important change has already occurred -she has the will to get through this. Please help us continue to care for this baby girl and teach her about all the great things life has to offer a young, sweet pup.

      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Australian Kelpie / Mixed (short coat). Meet Chevy! Chevy is a sweet little guy who had been living on the street all alone until a Scout's Honor volunteer was able to help him. Chevy had been living under a truck for a while (it was a Chevy) while a Scout's Honor volunteer was working to gain his trust. He kept going every day to feed him and give him some attention. The business near where he was let him come onto their property and provided him some shelter. Unfortunately, because there was a busy street nearby, sweet little Chevy got bumped by a few cars when he was out and about and lost a few teeth as a result. Luckily, he did not sustain any significant injuries, and just needed to eat and get a bath. Chevy is an awesome dog , loves other dogs and loves to play ! Chevy is a high energy dog, but is also very smart and alert. He needs A LOT of exercise and positive reinforcement, but will pick up very quickly on what you are teaching him. He would be a great dog for agility or flyball!! As long as you keep him busy and challenged he will impress you with how well he can learn things. He just wants someone who will give him the direction, attention and structure he wants/needs. He would make a great dog for an active home with NO kiddos. Kiddos are just too unpredictable for this guy. He also needs a home that understands how to properly introduce him to new people and watch his cues. Chevy can be very protective of his people and area, so proper intros are a must. True to his Kelpie breed, Chevy likes to herd and run and play . Check out this VIDEO of him just having a grand time running - look at those turns! Kelpie's are unique problem solvers and will find a way to do whatever he deems necessary. Chevy fits these traits to a T, and anyone who knows and loves the herding breeds would just adore little Chevy!! He's a real catch!! Chevy is up to date on vaccinations, neutered and micro-chipped. Please contact us at info@scoutshonor.org if you are interested in fostering or adopting this precious guy! You can read all about our foster and adoption process, as well as make a donation for his care, on our website at www.scoutshonor.org.
