More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Not tested with cats Hello...I’m Bennie and I’m brand new to my foster home! I am so happy in my new life and am learning so many things, like how to sit and stay. I am an active boy and love playing and going for walks, especially sniffing around in the woods. I’d really enjoy having a fenced yard to run off my energy, but if not, I need to be with someone who likes to get out and about a fair amount. I like to eat cookies and treats and chew on bones. I can be protective of my food, so have to be fed separately from other dogs….at least until I learn they aren’t going to take my food. I do get along with other dogs and I like the few kids I’ve met. I sleep in my crate at night like a good boy. I’m a little afraid of loud noises, so a chaotic home probably wouldn’t be a great match for me. I would love to meet you...I hope you feel the same! Please note: We can only adopt in the states of MA, CT and NH If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application at www.survivortails.org or email adoptions@survivortails.org with any questions

No cats LouLou is from a local shelter where she was found as a stray. She is a very sweet girl who loves belly rubs and hanging out with her people. She is eager to please and very fast to learn. Lou Lou has been through a professional training program and was/is superb student. She loves playing with other dogs so she would love another pup pal to play with in her forever home. She is very good on and off leash, is house trained, and crate trained. Lou Lou enjoys her quiet time in her crate with treats. She is still learning to share so her new home needs to be mindful of toys and meal times. She would love for her new family to continue training with her and take advantage of the lifetime training support that comes with her. Lou Lou has so much love to give...you can see it in her sweet, kind eyes. She would add so much laughter and fun to anyone's home! Comments from her foster dad: She is professionally trained and continues training with her foster. She knows all her commands. Sit, down, place, and come. Enjoys playing with other dogs, but doesn't always share well. Very athletic and loves to play, but she also likes to chill and hug/cuddle. Medium energy. Crate and house trained. Very smart. Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (short coat). Name: Frankie Sex: Female Breed: Shepherd Mix Mix Age: 4 years old Weight: 35 lbs Good with: People, children over 12 and dogs with proper introduction. Likes to chase cats. Hi! My name is Frankie and I want to tell you a little bit about myself. I’ve been waiting a really long time for my forever family to find me and I’m getting kind of worried. I don’t understand why I haven’t been adopted, because I am super sweet and very pretty. I am good with dogs, sometimes I want to be the alpha but I quickly become best friends regardless of the pecking order. I do like to try to chase small animals I see. I have met cats and I want to chase them. I have met my foster mom’s 5 year old niece, and although I have been good around her, I would do better with older children who do not make as many sudden unexpected movements. I’m supposed to tell you my favorite treat, but I love them all!!! I am very food motivated and have yet to find one I do not love. I am smart! I know: sit, paw, high five, lay down, stay (which I am very good at)! I have improved on the leash and don’t pull it too much anymore. I love to go trail running! I was scared of the car at first but have quickly discovered that often car rides end with me getting to go for a long walk or run which is a blast! I used to have some difficulty meeting new people at first. Although I have done very well at my foster mom’s house with all new guests, she has them slowly approach me just so I know they are nice people and I’m aware of what they are doing there. I’m a good sleeper, either on my fosters mom’s bed at night or any dog bed laying around the house during the day. I have excellent potty skills and have not had any accidents. I am a very loveable dog who likes to be around people. I follow my foster mom around her house almost every time she gets up. I am VERY food motivated and will do anything for a yummy treat! I am REALLY ready for my happily-ever-after. Is it with you?? Please note: We can only adopt in the states of MA, CT and NH

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Name: Baby Girl Sex: Female Breed: Pit mix Age: 2 - 3 years Weight: 65# Good with: People and dogs. Not tested with kids or cats Hi everyone. My name is Baby Girl…isn’t that cute? My name fits me well because I’m a sweetheart love-bug, according to my foster mom. I am pretty low energy but can hold my own with my foster brother, who is the same size as I am. I do love playing with him. We like to play tug-of-war and wrestle around together. After playing, I like to lie around in the sun on the porch. Sometimes people walk by the house and it is my job to bark at them. I’m told I could use some work in that area. Sometimes I find men scary until foster mom tells me they are friends, and then I’m good. I like to go for leash walks and don’t pull foster mom too much but she thinks I could do better. Sometimes I’m like, “Well, there are lots of things to sniff, you know, so let’s get going!” Mostly I just like to amble along and explore all the wonderful smells. I am very, very good with my housetraining; that makes me feel pretty proud. I do need to be encouraged to go potty outside when it’s raining, because I don’t like wet feet. I am not a fan of my crate. I will tolerate it but I don’t like going in it. My foster mom only uses it during storms and on nights she doesn’t want me in her bed. I really do prefer sleeping on a bed or on a couch – who wouldn’t? I’m described as sweet, easy-going, gentle and playful. If that sounds perfect to you, I’d love to meet you. I’m ready for my forever home!! Check out the video below of Baby Girl and her pal T-Bone who is also coming up to find a home too. https://youtu.be/ 5sJSOZwlFOM If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application at survivortails.org or email adoptions@survivortails.or g with any questions We can only adopt in the states of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.
