Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Hi, I'm Bellamy and I am THE HAPPIEST dog in the world. Do you like to wake up slowly to smooshy-faced kisses over a cup of coffee and Good Morning, America? If so, I'm your man! I'm quite a snuggler and love to give big huge Pit Bull hugs. I've never met a stranger. I'm also great at entertaining you while I entertain myself. Foster mom just loves when I run zoomies up and down the stairs tossing my toys to myself. I completed a Canine Good Citizen class with my foster mom and got a certificate! It was fun and I love to focus on my human and show you what I can do. I've been through some rough times and at one point broke my elbow (vets say it was repeatedly) and it has grown back wrong. It has been fully evaluated, but vets think I'm not in pain and that nothing should be done to correct my occasional limp. It does not affect my ability to run, jump and play. I'm neutral with other dogs when I'm on leash, but I can get a little overly excited sometimes, so foster mom thinks it would be best if I was the only dog in the home. If you would like to meet me, please complete an online Adoption Application at www.outpaws.org/adopt.

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). If you have the time, I have the belly! I'm Serenity, a two-year-old Terrier mix found as a stray in New Mexico, and I like nothing better than getting my belly rubbed, ears scratched, and snuggling up with my people. I would love to be a lap dog, but I'm just not small enough. My favorite place to be is wherever you are. I would do best in a home with no other pets or small children as I am quite enthusiastic and don't know my own strength. If you would like to meet me, apply online at www.outpaws.org/adopt

Posted Breed: Newfoundland Dog / Shepherd / Mixed (long coat). Hello, my name is Shrek. I'm a sweet 6 year old Potcake mix from the Humane Society of Grand Bahamas. My first couple of years on the island were pretty bad. I had an owner who neglected and abused me. One day, a tourist from Austria saw me, my brother and sister and called the shelter to see if they would take us in. They said yes, so we lived safely at the shelter for years. Unfortunately, I had suffered some type of traumatic injury where my pelvis was crushed and my femur on my hind leg was broken in two places. I received no treatment for years and so had little use of my hind end. I have now had FHO surgeries on each hip and a brace was made for my left hind leg. I'm in physical therapy two times per week learning to walk with my brace and trying to build strength in my hind legs so that I will use them more. I'll probably never be a hiker or go for lengthy walks, but OutPaws is hoping to help me reach the point where I can stand more and enjoy being in my yard and exploring.

You'll have to have some patience with me as I work through my shyness. I like being petted and going for walks. I walk well on a leash, do well when meeting other dogs and do fine around those small humans called kids! I love running in the backyard and I would do well with another dog who can teach me the ropes! I am crate-trained and mellow type of pup. Hoping to find my forever home! I'm a super sweet girl and can't wait to find my forever family here in Colorado. I'm getting used to living in a home and I really like other dogs! Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (long coat). Hi, I am Katarina. I'm a senior German Shepherd girl. The vets say I'm at least 12-13 years old. I came from a hoarding case in New Mexico where our owner left suddenly leaving us with no food or water and locked in a house. I'm happy to be in a foster home where I'm loved and cared for. I'm a little weak in the hind end, but otherwise I still get around pretty well.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua (medium coat). My name is Carmen SanDiego. I'm a sweet chihuahua mix girl. I can't remember my birthday, but I'm about 2 or 3 years old. I weigh around 15-20 pounds, so I'm a bit bigger than your average chi. I love cuddles and sitting in laps. If you let me in your bed, I'll gladly cuddle up right next to you. I'm also crate trained, and I love hanging out in there because it feels like my own cave. I'm house trained and love to go out on long walks. I've started to learn some commands in my foster home like "sit" and "stay", and I'm working on "come." I have an alpha personality and love getting all of the attention, so I'd probably be best in an only pet home, but sometimes I like hanging out with other small dogs. Dogs bigger than me tend to scare me. If you already have a dog, I'd like to meet them first to see if we can be buddies. I like people but it can take me a little while to warm up to any new people that come to my home. Oh, and I was born with one eye, but it doesn't slow me down one bit! I'd been at the shelter there for some time hoping to get my second chance at a life in a home. I tested heartworm positive though and was in need of treatment. I've come to a foster home in Denver so I can get treated. OutPaws and their partner vets will be taking care of my treatment. Now I just get to start meeting applicants and see who wants to be my forever family. I'm great with other dogs and with children. If you would like to meet me, apply online at www.OutPaws.org/adopt
