Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Reeses Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier Weight: 52 lbs Age: 8 yrs Vaccinations: Current Microchipped: Yes Reeses is a fun loving clown. His favorite thing to do is jump. He would be great for agility or a runner who needs a partner. Learning tricks comes easy for this smart special boy. He does the "commando crawl", sit, down, shake hands, roll over among other things. He loves the clicker and playing with a box. Reeses is crate trained and house trained. Despite being abandoned, he loves people but is too energetic for young children. Older children would be a better match. Playing with other dogs is something that he could do all day long. Cats are another story. He thinks of them as squeaky toys and therefore shouldn't be adopted to anyone with cats. If you want a fun-loving clown to keep you on your toes, please call Dallas or Esther at 757-583-8777 or email rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net .

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150. Lady Bug Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier Sex: Female (To be spayed) Age: approx. 2 yrs Weight: 44 lbs Vaccinations: Will be current as soon as medically able Microchipped: Yes Lady Bug was saved by 2 very caring people. She was dropped at a lady's home by one of her "friends". They disappeared and disconnected their phone leaving her with Lady Bug. The lady didn't have much and was having trouble taking care of her own 2 dogs and asked the 2 rescuers for help. They took her and bathed her, gave her flea prevention and asked Rainbow for help. Lady Bug was found to have a flea allergy dermatitis. She has been treated for that and given prevention. She has been examined by Rainbow's vet and given the vaccinations that she could receive at this time. She is not spayed so we are waiting for 30 days for her to have an ultrasound to determine if she is pregnant. Once that is determined, she will receive the remaining vaccinations and be spayed. She is a love bug who gets along with other dogs and children. When cat tested, she showed too much interest in them so we won't adopt her to a home with cats...just for everyone's safety:-). She would love an active family who will "wear her out" :-). If you want a loving, energetic little girl to add to your family, please contact Esther or Dallas at 757-583-8777 or e-mail rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net.

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. LueLue Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier Sex: Female (Spayed) Age: 5 yrs Weight: 56 lbs Vaccinations: Current Microchipped: Yes LueLue's mom died leaving her with the boyfriend. He was unable to care for her after she developed a life-threatening illness (pyometra). She also had a skin infection. She was taken to our vet and when it was determined that she needed immediate surgery, he agreed to surrender her to Dr. M. He informed the vet that he really didn't want her. Dr.'s M & M decided that they were going to save her and re-home her. Rainbow received a call asking if she could be a Rainbow dog. They offered to cover the cost of all of her veterinary care (which we greatly appreciated). She had been boarded at the hospital until we finally found a very caring foster. She is now in a home and learning to be a family member. We also discovered that she was kept mostly outside with not much interaction with others. She was cat tested and didn't seem too interested so we think that she could learn to live with a cat. There were children at the previous home and stated that she was fine with children. We think she needs a home with older children as she is VERY energetic. She seems to be fine with other dogs which we will further determine when she starts her manners classes. She loves to run and play. She needs a family who will be patient and loving and is willing to continue her training so she can become the sweet dog that she is capable of. If you are that special family, please contact Esther or Dallas at 757-583-8777 or e-mail rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net.

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Hound / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Reese was due to be put down within hours of being pulled from a shelter in NC in April 2012. She was heartworm positive and very sick. She is completely healthy now and microchipped, spayed, and up-to-date on vaccinations. She is around 5 years old and about 40 lbs. She is dog reactive and would benefit from training to help her overcome her fear of other dogs. She has not been around cats, so we're not sure how she would act. Reese has been around children ages 2-17 years and does fine with them. However, we probably would not recommend a home with small children because she does have a lot of energy. She tends to jump up on people, which we are working on. She is crate and house trained. Reese needs to go a home with a family who is active because she loves to run with her foster mom. She does well on a leash. She loves to play, but also loves to cuddle. Reese is a survivor and looking for her forever family. If you are that special, active family, please call Esther or Dallas at 757-583-8777 or e-mail rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net.

Posted Breed: Beagle (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Very sweet blind boy Ralphie Special Needs: Blind Breed: Beagle Sex: Male (Neutered) Age: approx. 5 yrs. Weight: 30 lbs. Vaccinations: Current Microchipped: Yes Little Ralphie was picked up as a stray in one of the surrounding counties. He is a very timid little man who gets along well with other dogs and cats. He is afraid of new people but is warming up to them as he becomes used to living inside with his loving fosters. The best home for Ralphie would be one with no small children. Older quiet children who are gentle would be best. We are slowly introducing him to being around other people in a pet store setting so he would also need a family who would be patient with him and show him lots of love. Training would be of benefit after he becomes acclimated to his new home. They don't come any sweeter that this little love bug. If you are that very special family who would love to shower Ralphie with love and patience, please contact Esther or Dallas at 757-583-8777 or e-mail rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net.

      Breed: Beagle-Unknown Mix

Posted Breed: Hound / Beagle / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Breed: Hound/Beagle Mix Sex: Female (Spayed) Age: approx. 2 years Weight: 33 lbs Vaccinations: Current Microchipped: Yes Shiloh is a very shy girl who was beginning to come out of her shell with her family who adopted her in November 2016. They had fostered her since the previous August. We received a call recently, January 2017, from the family stating that they were returning her because she wasn't progressing adequately. She had chewed on the bed and was still having a few accidents. They also stated that she had been "a little aggressive" with their other two dogs. She never displayed any aggression when she was with the other group who had her. She had been attacked by a bassett hound at one event and went and hid in the corner without ever retaliating. She is getting better about walking outside and had become comfortable with her family. Shiloh needs a quiet home with no small children and a family who is willing to be patient with her and give her the time she needs to "learn the ropes". If you are that special family, please contact Esther or Dallas at 757-583-8777 or e-mail rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net.

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). COURTESY POST: Arial Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier Sex: Female (Spayed) Age: 8 years Hi world, Arial here. I am an 8 year old American Pit Bull Terrier. I spent most of my life outside up until my foster mommy, Trina, saved me in February. I had a shed that I could go lay in if I wanted and I did go inside when the weather was really bad. The family I used to live with moved and their new home did not allow "aggressive breeds". I am not sure what aggressive means but I have been told that I am a sweet girl. I think I like it better that I didn't move anyways. I get to sleep in a nice comfy bed and get lots of food and yummy treats. I even have a foster brother and sister, which I like, but my brother tried to get a bit frisky with me when I first got here, and I had to let him know that it wasn't okay, so now Ms. Trina keeps us separated. My foster sister, Molly, is the greatest. We don't get to play too much though because she is heartworm positive and has to stay calm. (I don't know what heartworms are…..but my foster mommy was really amazed that I don't have them.) I like to cuddle, chew on my rope toys, get my belly rubbed, and play outside. I don't bother anything when left in the house and have only had one "accident" so I have been told. Ms. Trina said that it was her fault for giving me too much peanut butter at one time. That must be the stuff in the red toy she gave me once and it was extra yummy, but did make my tummy feel a bit yucky. The nice lady at the vet's office said that I was in great health for my age and situation. I love other doggies and all the little hoomans too. Arial is spayed, up-to-date on shots, and will come with heartworm preventative through February 2018. A meet and greet with any pets or people in the household, as well as a background check, adoption fee, and contract will be required. Arial's perfect home would include a sibling or two and a fenced in yard for her to run and play in. Katrina Wolf 757-404-5664 kmwolf713@gmail.com

      Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier (short coat). Angel is a very sweet 9 yr. old female American Staffordshire Terrier. She is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. She weighs 61 lbs. and wants to be a lap dog. She is crate trained, house trained and knows sit, down, stay, and her left and right. She loves people, children and most other dogs; however, she is selective about which doggy friends she plays with. When she wants something, or wants to go out, she sings. She has a very good voice. She was abandoned by her irresponsible owner with her 10 one-week old puppies. Her pups have been adopted, but not her. She desperately wants her "forever" home. Angel needs a family who is experienced with this breed and will give her the love and patience she deserves. If you have room in your heart and home, please contact Dallas or Esther at 757-583-8777 or e-mail rainbowanimalrescue@cox.net.
