Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Triss is approximately 2 yrs old, spayed, current on vacs, excellent with other dogs and great with kids, and in search of a forever home. Triss was rescued in Mexico by a Good Samaritan 'Eva' and has been living with a foster family there since March 2015. She was found in an abandoned yard with her 5 pups and was thin like a skeleton. Since then the pups found their forever homes, and now Triss is healthy and ready to find hers! Triss' foster family unfortunately doesn't allow dogs inside their home so she will need to be housetrained once in her new environment. Eva would like to find a great home that will consider her a part of their family. Triss enjoys a running partner, loves car rides, is great on a leash, loves to play with her foster sibling sister who is a German Shepherd, and a very affectionate girl who likes to lay beside you. She is very grateful to have been rescued off the streets of Mexico and is eager to please you. If you have any questions about Triss or would like to meet her in person, please contact Eva via email at marquez.eva@gmail.com. For serious adoption interests, Eva has no problem with transporting beautiful Triss outside of Mexico to meet you.

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: American Bulldog
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Orange, CA
Posted Breed: American Bulldog (short coat). Meet the AMAZING Monti! This boy loves to play with ropes and play tug-a-war, he knows how to swim and loves summer days in the pool, which is not typical of his breed, but Monti is no typical guy! This hunk loves car rides and going out for his daily adventure! Monti is well trained, walks great on leash, and knows his basic commands. He is a big boy, so needs someone who knows how to manage his personality properly with the right combination of love, respect and leadership. He is fine with other smaller or submissive dogs, but would do best in a home as the only dog as he prefers to be the center of attention!! Monti adores well mannered children and is just the most amazing companion! If Monti sounds like the guy for you, please e-mail us to savealife@4liferescue.org

Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier (short coat). My name is Darwin. I am an extremely GENTLE, sensitive, and personable 4 year old Staffordshire Terrier/Pit Bull mix. I weigh about 65lbs, but I'm essentially just an oversized lap dog (no, really- I am). What you need to know about me: I need a stable, structured, and calm home. I am very stressed out whenever I go outside, and prefer to stay home then go on walks or out into public places. The perfect situation for me would be a house with a fenced in yard or patio where I can easily do my business. Just something simple! I am fearful and insecure around other dogs, but I have slowly made a couple furry friends, including another dog that I am fostered with currently. An owner who is experienced with special needs dogs like me would be best since you understand the need to be patient, and to give me lots of encouragement and leadership. I am always curious about what you are doing- so if you hear someone tip-toeing behind you, that would be me! I know basic commands, and I am housetrained- I do not like to be crated, but because I'm such a good boy, my foster mom trusts me alone while she's at work all day. I also like to sing when I get excited, which is mostly whenever I see you! I am neutered, microchipped and up to date on all of my shots. If you are interested in meeting me, please contact my foster mom Rachel at info@hollywooftotherescue.org

Posted Breed: Chow Chow / Chinese Shar-Pei / Mixed (medium coat). Cody is a gorgeous Chow/Shar-Pei mix. His owner's medical issues have become too much to be able to care for Cody, and now Cody is in desperate need of a new home. Cody is a happy senior who gets along with other dogs as well as with small children or infants in the household. He can be a little shy of new people introduced to the house but warms up quickly because he loves everyone! Cody is used to being able to have the run of a large piece of land, but also loves to be inside, especially on hotter days, where he can be more comfortable. It's tough to keep a dog cooled down with a luxurious fur coat like his! He loves to go on walks and is very easy on a leash. He interacts well when passing other dogs, and he is potty trained. This sweet boy loves treats, but he does not beg for food, so he deserves all of the treats he gets! Although he is not a huge barker, Cody will alert you that someone is at the door. As you can see, Cody is pretty perfect in every way and should be able to fit in nicely in just about any household! He is looking for a family who will treat him like a king and will share the rest of his life with him. Sweet Cody is a courtesy post, so if you would be interested in meeting Cody, please contact Brandon at brandonrea83@gmail.com

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Hazel is a 1 year old female pit bull. The family originally adopted her from the OC shelter, and have decided to rehome her as it is what's best for her. She's a real sweet dog and is going through training currently. She needs a strong leader/handler and a family who is willing to continue with her training and put some time into her. Being just a young dog, she still doesn't know her strength and can be a bit mouthy sometimes, so older kids are probably best. She is dog friendly with proper introduction. However, no small dogs and definitely NO CATS. Hazel is a courtesy post, so if you would be interested in meeting Hazel, or getting more information from her trainer, please contact Jessie at jessie.scott281994@gmail.com

Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Fox Terrier / Mixed (short coat). This little character is Fin, a 4 year old Australian Cattledog mix. At 22 pounds, he is a small guy with mass amounts of personality! Fin has learned a lot of house manners. He is house and crate trained. He knows sit and “to your bed” when it’s time for the crate. He is wonderful in the car and on leash. He learns so fast that he may have learned something new by the time you are reading this. He also LOVES his blankeys! He loves to bury himself in his blankets and pillows. He's also a goof - very wiggly and snuggly and affectionate once he gets to know you. Fin enjoys casual hikes or long strolls through the neighborhood. Once he gets to know his person, he is even good off leash on a hike. Fin is a big guy in a small package. He needs a home where his people aren’t pushovers. If he gets an inch, he will take a mile. Therefore, he is looking for a home that understands that some dogs feel best when they have a lot of structure. He also is looking for a home where he is a buddy rather than a teddy bear. He will do best hanging out with his person but not being cuddled and coddled. A home without kids is required. He lives with other animals and gets along well. Just like with people, he does best when his animal friends aren’t pushovers. In order to help Fin be the best he can be, he has been enrolled in professional training where his obedience skills have been refined. He has received additional socialization with dogs and people, too. He will always be a one or two person kind of dog rather than the super social, love everyone kind of guy. If you want devoted, he is definitely that. HIs foster mom says that he has a way of becoming a part of your heart, so even with his need for structure, he is well worth it. He will come with a few sessions of training with his new person and current trainer so that his transition to a new home is smooth and effective. The training is included in his adoption fee. Fin is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and ready to meet potential adopters in Southern CA. Out of area adopters will be happily referred to local rescues. Fin is a SoCal kind of guy and loves the weather here. A home visit and vet reference are required.

      TIGGER, The ...

      Location: Orange, CA
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Alright, are you ready to hear about a great dog? I knew you were! Here's TIGGER, the HIGHLY TRAINED, LOVABLE, SWEET dog. He's truly WONDERFUL and going to make someone very happy. This darling boy was abandoned by his young owner who started out wanting to do the right thing in putting him through a board and train program, but unfortunately, this person forgot about poor TIGGER and now TIGGER is oh so lonely...forgotten at his trainer's facility. Tigger has this wonderful desire to please and do the right thing that he's been trained to do. He has an intense focus on his handler, which you can see from some of his pictures as he focuses his look on his trainer. Tigger knows SIT, STAY, COME, DOWN, PLACE (which is where he goes to his bed to stay until released). He is CRATE TRAINED, LEASH TRAINED, WILL WALK AT YOUR SIDE IN A HEEL, and POTTY TRAINED, rides well in the car and is an all around good boy and GOOD WITH DOGS. Aside from all this training is that Tigger is like any other dog...he wants to be loved by his own person who will not forget about him and who will love him for the rest of his life. Tigger's ideal person(s) would be active and love walks, running, playing fetch with him, and would have him as part of the family. Tigger bonds deeply with his person and will be very loving. Tigger can be cautious or shy when he initially meets a person, but once he knows the person is kind, he's comfortable. His caution comes from the fact that his young owner had roommates who would rough house with him too forcefully and Tigger didn't like it. He wouldn't snap or be aggressive, but it made him cautious. He's now so good after all of his socialization with dogs and with people. If you want to meet a great dog, please come meet Tigger. He's a lover and you'll fall for him. If interested, please contact Mitzy@4LifeRescue.org, 714-469-8878

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Hi! My name is Joey and I was saved from being euthanized at the Orange County shelter for being too scared in my kennel. I'm just a puppy but have already had a very sad past where my person was not nice to me and, because of that, I'm pretty scared of new things and new people. My foster mommy tells me it breaks her heart that someone could treat a sweet puppy so badly but I am a happy boy now that I'm safe with her and my foster dad (and my 4 legged brothers and sisters!)! My foster family is working with me daily and I am learning how to be a very brave little boy! Each time I overcome something "scary", I feel just a bit more confident and ready to tackle the next thing! Still, I will need a very patient, understanding adopter who will give me time to adjust and learn to trust and also continue to teach me that the world is not such a scary place. Once I learn to trust you, you will not meet a sweeter, more loving, happy little boy! I absolutely love to be with my people and will always follow my foster parents from room to room when they do things around the house. But it takes time for me to get there so I will need someone who has a "stick to it" and is willing to go through some bumps in the road during the first month or so that I'm with them. I can PROMISE you that I will come around with time and patience...it is just hard for me to trust in the beginning. Oh, and I'm told I give the very best kisses :) I absolutely LOVE other dogs and currently live with both boys and girls and get along with them great. The thing is, my trusted doggie friends give me the confidence I need to conquer the big, scary world out there so I would greatly benefit from going to a home with another dog! I like to run around and wrestle with my doggie friends so while I like little dogs, I am better matched up with someone my own size or bigger who can handle my rough and tumble play! I would be best matched up with a balanced dog with a medium energy level that can show me the ropes in my new home and teach me that life is not so scary. I'm a tiny little guy...I weigh about 45 lbs but I look even smaller than that! I'm easy to handle and very eager to please! I love treats and I am doing well learning my basic commands. At first I was very scared of that big thing they call a "crate" but now my foster mommy just says the words "in your crate" and I run right in! My foster mommy says I'm such a quick learner and great listener too! Even though I'm still a puppy, I have a great medium energy level. When it is time to relax and watch tv, I will just lay at your feet or on my favorite dog bed and relax with you. But if it's time to play in the yard, I'm ready to go! I'm a quiet boy but I will definitely alert you if somebody is near the house or at the door. My foster mommy tells me I have a big bark for such a little guy! I am such a special guy and I am really looking for that perfect home that will help me become the confident boy I deserve to be! If you would like to learn more about me or meet me, please contact my friends at 4Life Animal Rescue and they will put you in touch with my foster mommy who can tell you all about me!

Despite that, I am very loving and always interested in what my mom is up to! I love to make sure things are in order around the house and hunt pesky mice and rats.
