Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). **THIS IS A COURTESY POST FOR UHA. My name is Zuli and I am looking for my forever home (hopefully around San Diego, where I am located!) I am about 18-months-old and I am a bluenose Pit Bull mix puppy. I am full of lots of puppy energy! I adore playing with other dogs and get very excited around playtime. I currently live with FIVE other doggies who are my best friends, and I am currently being trained how to control my energy level. When I go to my new home, I will need to continue to work with trainer so I can become the best canine citizen there is! I ride very well in the car and I am currently potty trained. I know how to listen to my foster mama and will only chew on appropriate toys. I walk very well on leash, and I also know many commands! I know how to "sit," "wait," "down," "leave it," "stay", and "easy." I also know how to "shake" and "roll over" (both ways!) I get along very well with older children and can respect younger children, but I probably shouldn't live with them since I might accidentally knock them over with my puppy energy and enthusiasm. I am spayed, up to date on shots and rabies, and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting me, please contact my foster mama, Heather, at obeachgirl@yahoo.com ZULI’S VIDEO: http://youtu.be/TG8v_y7MYpQ MORE PHOTOS OF ZULI: http://on.fb.me/1smmDe6

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Weighing 59 lbs, Pooh Bear is a cheerful boy who is great with other dogs, even little ones. Pooh Bear walks well on leash and would be delighted to join you on walks or hikes. Pooh Bear loves to play fetch with a ball, and we think he’d enjoy being part of a family with kids big enough to throw for him. He appears to be housebroken and learns quickly. Given his happy, friendly attitude, it’s no surprise that Pooh Bear passed his temperament test with flying colors. Good-natured Pooh Bear is great boy who will make an excellent indoor pet for any active individual or family. Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Staffordshire Bull Terrier (short coat). CONTACT: Katja at katja@hope4animals.org or 951-973-2757. **Courtesy Listing** Madeline is not part of UHA's Shelter Support Program. Madeline is a darling 10-month-old grey-with-white spayed female Pit Bull mix who was rescued from a high intake shelter. Weighing 37 lbs and not expected to get significantly bigger, Madeline is as sweet and affectionate as a girl can be. She loves to be near her humans, and is an amazing cuddling companion. With her adorably snubby face, she has charming snore, too. Maddie is eager to please, and is quickly learning new skills in her foster home and with our rescue trainer. She walks nicely on leash and is crate trained; she is also making excellent progress with house training. Her favorite activities include chasing balls and playing with squeaky toys. Madeline's body tells a sad story of misuse: she has scars that appear to be inflicted by both humans and other dogs, as well as a tail that is completely kinked from having been broken at least once. She is uncomfortable around other dogs, especially if they come on strong when meeting her, and we think would be happiest as a single dog--although we also believe that with continued socialization, she will continue to become more confident around other dogs. She has been calm and polite with the cats in her foster home. Madeline is a truly special pocket pittie who will be an amazingly fun and loyal companion. Madeline is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccines. She is available for foster or adoption. CONTACT: Katja at katja@hope4animals.org or 951-973-2757.

COURTESY LISTING CONTACT: Katja at katja@hope4animals.org or 951-973-2757 NICKY is a delightful white-with-black one-year old spayed female Pit Bull mix who was rescued with her ten tiny puppies. Nicky's pups have all been adopted, and now it's time for this lovely young gal to find a loving home in which she can be the baby. Weighing 48 lbs, Nicky is a sweet, attentive, and playful dog. She would like to be part of an active household where she can join you on walks or hikes. Like all teenage dogs, she likes to do things and be part of daily activities. Nicky is crate trained and walks well on leash; she would benefit from continued obedience to keep her focused and help her mature into a breed ambassador. She is a smart dog who wants to please, and will thrive in a dog-experienced home that understands that all dogs need guidance and structure. Nicky gets along well with most dogs, but will do best as a solo dog so she can be queen of her own castle and dote on you fully. We expect she would enjoy being part of a household with kids, too. Nicky is so loving and happy, and will be an awesome best friend. Nicky is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccines. Application, home check, and adoption fee required. Shelley and Emily have lived with the same family since they were puppies, and both girls are gentle, companionable dogs who have grown up with children and cats.
