Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Chocolate Labrador Retriever (short coat). Linus is a 6 years young pit mix. He is a gentle giant that is looking for a loving forever home. His size may be big...but his heart is bigger!!! He just wants to be close to you and share your life with you. He has lived with children and is very good with them, but would prefer older children that have less energy like him. He has lived with another dog in the past, but now in his life he would prefer ALL of your attention and really doesn't want to share his time that he has with you with another dog. He is looking for a big fenced in yard that he can run and play in. He loves to relax in the grass on a beautiful day. He will play ball with you all day, if you let him. He would also love a nice couch to curl up on with you and a big bed to share with you. Linus is not a barker...he will cry or yawn, but he just doesn't like to bark. Linus, by far is an amazing dog that has so much to offer and is hoping to find his forever home. More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Smooth Collie / Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Hank! He's a sophisticated gentleman, meaning he's fully potty trained, crate trained and has overall good manners. He is very affectionate and loves to be near his people. He has the most beautiful soft fur and will let you pet him for days. His fur is what leads us to believe he may be a collie mix, but we are unsure of his mix. He is very submissive and playful with the other dogs in the house and he has even met a cat. The cat batted him when he approached and that was the end of his interest in the cat. He does seem to prefer women to men, but given a little bit of time to warm up, he will give a man kisses too. He loves to fetch toys and roll over for belly rubs. He rides great in the car. Hank would do well as an only dog or with another playful dog. Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Miniature Bull Terrier Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Miniature Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Bruno is a special boy who will need a special owner to meet his special needs. He is a 6-year old paraplegic pitbull mix who has partial back legs. Bruno gets around well using a ‘drag bag’ and has his own set of wheels and is unaware of his disability. He is convinced he is the same as any other dog and acts like any other dog…although you will most likely find he is the happiest dog you have ever met. He gets along well with dogs and wants to play and has lived with cats. He may knock over small children as he is exuberant and does not go through life at a low speed when he is moving about. He does require time and devotion to care for as he is incontinent and has ‘sensitive’ skin. He is well behaved and patient during diaper changing time. Bruno holds a special place in the hearts of all the people he has touched. We all want what is best for him and we want to make sure he goes to a home who can provide for all of his special needs. Castaway has invested a lot of time and resources into getting Bruno to the point where he can find his forever home. We'd love to find a family to keep us in the loop of how he is doing.
