Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). A note from Samson''s foster mom: He''s becoming increasingly trained. Lol. He''s learning how to cuddle more gently :-) he does `Come.` (Straight and centered automatically sits), `come to heal`, `sit`, `down `, `sit-wait` `down-wait `... he''s much more confident that last time I brought him to Acs. He absolutely loved going to the vet clinic and everyone loved him there.

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      LEILAH

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). A note from Leilah''s foster mom: Leilah is doing great! She has come out of her shell in record time; having fun play-chasing one of my dogs around the house and to the chagrin of my cats, she has taken to chasing and playing with them too! She loves chasing her tail in circles (my cats are amused by this behavior) and I can already tell she''s going to be a high energy dog! Australian Cattle Dogs are bred to herd sheep and other similar animals. Like any good herding dog, Leilah nips at the heels of other dogs, cats, or anything else that looks to them like it should be gathered together and guarded. Though not an overly large breed, Leilah takes protecting her foster mom and pets very seriously. This can make her seem aggressive when guarding the house, yard, or home occupants. Ideally, Leilah will thrive on a farm, ranch or any large property that she can work, run, play, and jump as she is a high energy dog. Leilah will not do well in an apartment situation. Leilah gets along with other dogs, but loves to nip the heels of other dogs, including those twice her size. Before adopting Leilah, it''s important she meets and greets any potential new family dogs before taking her home. Leilah seems to get along with cats, when she''s not trying to nip them on the butt. Leilah is currently living with a foster, but sadly, the foster family cannot keep her; so if you can provide this beautiful girl with a fantastic loving home, we''d be ecstatic! If Leilah sounds like your ideal family member, request a meet-and-greet with our loving girl today!

      Breed: Australian Shepherd-Unknown Mix

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Hi!, my name is Darla! I am smart and listen very well. So much so that I know and answer to my name. I am sweet, friendly and have a wonderful disposition, I get along well with all people, children, dogs and cats. I greet my foster and guests at the door with a huge smile and waving my tail around. I am pretty chill and nothing really phases me. Except maybe car rides, I get a little anxious in car rides and I have been working on desensitization. Its a good thing I am a fast learner and eager to please. I jump out of the car and can jump onto the floor board of a car. I completed heart worm treatments on June 27 and I was such a trooper. I am a hearty eater, I get very excited about my meals. I run, hop and spin around as I follow my foster to the food bag and then back to where my food bowl is placed. I enjoy being outdoors, I lay in the grass, look up at the sky and listen to the birds sing each morning while my foster waters the plants. I sometimes roll on my back and scratch it with the grass, feet up in the air, its so fun. I am proud to say that I am fully potty trained. Last, but certainly not least, I have a BIG heart!
