Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Hi! My name is Momma dog :) I was found as a stray right after I had my puppies, but my puppies were no where in sight. My foster mom thinks that after I had my puppies my old owner decided to dump me. I am a VERY sweet girl. I'm good with other dogs. I just melt when you pet me and would love to make you happy. I wiggle from head to toe when I see new friends and love to cuddle on the couch or in bed. I might cover you in slobber from kisses though! If you take me home I promise I'll love you everyday for the rest of my life! Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. Each dog in our rescue is in a loving foster home, where they can grow, play, and recover from their time spent on the streets or in a shelter. If you'd like to meet an adoptable dog, please fill out an application on our website, www.edcr.org. Because we are a foster home based rescue a completed adoption application is required to meet our adoptable dogs. More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Boxer (short coat). Angel is such a sweet girl! She was adopted in 2009 from EDCR but was returned to us through no fault of her own. She is approx 9 years old now and has developed hypothyroidism, but this condition is easily managed with an inexpensive medication. Angel is confused about why she lost her home and family, so we're hoping to find her a new foster or adoptive family quickly. Angel will go for walks if you like, but she's just as happy to relax on the couch. She gets along with other dogs who share her mellow demeanor. She is housetrained and knows basic commands. If you'd be willing to open your heart to Angel, as a foster or a new family member, please contact us! I am a big lover and like to think I can fit my whole big booty on your lap to snuggle. I am a very sweet girl who listens well to verbal commands (once I know them). I would love to have a home where I can play a little bit but for the most part be a couch potato. I am very loyal and smart. I like to act goofy and roll around on the couch.
