Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Great Dane / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Nancy (nancys13@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. Chouteau Pound Pals www.ChouteauPoundPals.com Chouteau Pound Pals is a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization. Angus is a playful pup with an approx birthdate of Oct 24, 2012. He loves attention and gets along well with female dogs. He weighs about 50 pounds. Having grown up at the pound, he will need someone that can give him guidance and confidence...EVERYTHING outside of pound life will be new to him. We would love to find him a forever or foster home that will give him attention and a safe environment where he can learn what it is like to be a beloved family member. Angus' adopter will get 3 free in-home training sessions with our trainer (if you are in the Tulsa/Chouteau area) to help integrate him into home life. To inquire about this dog, please call Nancy at 918/706-1073. We do require that an application be filled out & considered. Our adoption fee is $75.00. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

What is coffee colored with caramel stripes all over and intoxicatingly beautiful? Answer: Why me, Kahlua, of course! I was adopted a year and a half ago and thought I had a forever family, but they eventually quit paying attention to me and I got bored and started jumping the fence. The real problem started when the old cat next door started calling me names...needless to say, I chomped him and the neighbor said if I didn't leave the hood, he was going to send me over the rainbow bridge. I'm too young for that so here I sit, at the pound waiting for another family. One that has time to spend with me, please. Probably not one with cats. Call 918.706.1073 so we can go trick or treating together! To inquire about this dog, please call Nancy at 918/706-1073. We do require that an application be filled out & considered. Turns out that she is Heartworm positive and possibly as old as 12 years. What does that mean? That means that we will put her on the slow kill method for Heartworm treatment and find her a home where she can spend her final years laying around a quiet home. Lily doesn't mind other dogs but shouldn't be expected to be a playmate for an active younger dog. She loves people and would be fine in a home with older kids, probably no toddlers due to the fact that she probably has aches and pains and may not take kindly to being used as a jungle gym. Call 918.706.1073 if you have room for a very sweet dog. To inquire about this dog, please call Nancy at 918/706-1073. We do require that an application be filled out & considered. We have a new tenant at the pound. Meet Duke, he is approx 2 years of age and most likely a Heeler mix...which means he has more energy than a toddler with Monster in his sippy cup. He is potty trained and seems super social! He would thrive in a home with someone that has time to spend with him, he is smart and a fast learner but his personality is easily bored and that means that mischief is an issue when left alone for long periods of time. Rudolph here, if you can't guess why I was so named, let me clue you in...I came to the pound right before Christmas and I'm somewhat red! I'm 2-3 years old and love people and dogs. I am pretty athletic and can scale a 6' chain link fence, so the volunteers here say I need a family that can keep me inside or a yard with privacy fencing. But, you know, if I had a family that loved and spent a lot of time with me, I might not want to leave... I just get bored and enjoy a jaunt every now and again.
