If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Boxer. My name is Daisy and I’m a sweet, calm 5 year old girl that just landed in the LSBR program. I’m currently being vetted and have learned that I’m a special needs girl because I’m deaf and partially blind. I’m now in my very own foster home and, although I just arrived, I’m settling in quite well! My foster mom reports that I walk well on a leash and I’m house broken and crate trained. I am very calm, gentle and very good with my foster mom’s 2 yo grandson. Yes, I think I would be great in a home with kids. As you you can see from my pictures, I’m spend a lot of time chillaxing but I do enjoy my toys! I would love nothing more than to find a forever home that will offer me a comfortable bed, lots of love, and a lifetime of good belly rubs!

Posted Breed: Boxer. Hello! My name is Bean and I'm about 2 years old. I was recently found as a stray and a nice family took me in and helped me find LSBR! My foster mom says that I'm a petite girl who is fully crate trained and eager to please. I like to go on daily walks where I am told that I am very good on-leash. I also enjoy my time sniffing around the backyard while my foster mom does yard work. I even do some zoomies back and forth! But then I'm happy to hang out and watch TV either snuggling or chewing on a bone. I mostly just enjoy being around people, so whatever you are doing is great with me if I can just be nearby. I am good at entertaining myself with a stuffie toy or a squeaky ball. I like car rides, I don't mind thunderstorms, and I'm partial to chest-scratches. I am learning to use a doggie door also. I sit politely for treats and am learning "shake". I crate up easily with a treat when you need to leave the house or at night for snoozing. I would do best in a home as the only dog where I can reign as queen bee! I don't mind seeing another dog across the street on a walk, but frankly, I just don't want to live with another canine - I want all the loving to myself! And dog parks and doggie daycare? Yuck - all that sweaty fur? No thank you! I just need YOU, a nice walk, and a few toys, and I am perfectly happy. I love people and I give great little gentle kisses! My forever family should not include children younger than about 15; the day-in-day out chaos of younger children is exhausting! I don't mind sharing my toys and even my food bowl with grown-ups, and I love getting treats! My perfect home would be a set-up where me and my two-legged BFF walk before or after work and then catch up on some tv time. Maybe a long walk on weekends, a drive through, some outside sun-time reading. Or maybe there is a family where I could be the "third musketeer" to make a home or apartment complete? THAT would be fantastic as well!

Posted Breed: Boxer. IN NEED OF A FOSTER HOME UNTIL I CAN BE ADOPTED! All come to order......here comes the Judge! Hello folks, my name is Judge and they say I’m somewhere around 1.5 to 2 years old. Despite my young age, I’m a big, strong boy and I haven’t received basic training including good socialization. As a result, sometimes I can be choosy about my canine friends. Therefore, I‘m looking for a forever home that will not only love me, but a home where I can be the one and only.....dog that is! I will thrive with a family that has the patience and time to train me to be the best companion I know I can be! You see, behind this beautiful face, there’s a truly good boy that loves his people who is eager to learn and aims to please! I believe there‘s a perfect match for everyone and I’m just waiting patiently to find mine! I would love to meet you to see if we can make a love connection!

I’m estimated to be 1.5 years old. I just landed in a wonderful foster home that includes other boxer playmates.....well, they’re older so they’re pretty calm and I respect that! My foster mom mom says that I like to cuddle and I follow her around like a shadow. Seems pretty clear that I’m a love bug that attaches easily to my people! I can’t wait to find my very own home that will love me forever! In return, I promise to be forever loyal and grateful that you rescued me! Hugs, Blayne❤️

As you can imagine, I’m a sweet boxer boy and, wouldn’t you know it, I have a natural tail! I was recently surrendered to a shelter because I didn’t get along with the resident cat......no cats please! Otherwise, I can get along with anyone! I’m settling In nicely with the boxer buddies in my foster home. My foster mom says that I’m a gentle boy and although I’m not 100% house trained, I’m ever so eager to learn! If you are looking for a sweet, playful boy.....your typical boxer.....don’t wait. Just come meet me for yourself!

Posted Breed: Boxer. Hello Houston.....Hello USA! My name is Major and my brother, Nino, and I were recently surrendered to the Ft. Bend Animal Shelter but we are transplants from Japan! I'm about 7 years old with th energy of a 3 year old and very, very sweet! I know what you're thinking......what about those cropped ears?! I know cropped ears are so 1980 but hey, I think they make me look extremely regal! My foster mom says that I'm a strong boy and I love to play so, for that reason, my ideal home would be one without small children. I already have very good house manners and I'm house broken as well as crate trained. I 'sit' on command and am happy to go into my crate for a treat! My foster mom says that my leash training could use a little improvement so she's working with me on that....and I'm a smart boy so I'm sure I'll catch on fast! I also live in a home with cats. I wouldn't say I love them, but we seem to get along just fine. So, Major here, signing out.......I hope to meet you soon!

Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Bulldog / Mixed. My name is Jeff which is understandable since I was found wandering with my friend, Mutt. We are roughly 4-5 years old and not much is known about us at the moment. When we were found, we were pretty low. We had little hope of making it and had just about given up. After so many people passed us by, a nice lady stopped for us.....finally! We were overjoyed....we couldn't believe it! We were at the point of trusting anyone that offered to take us off the streets! Since we were found with eachother, it is believed that we are good with other dogs. We have not shown any aggression towards anyone or anything so we seem to be good around people of all ages. We haven't been observed around cats. For more information about me or my buddy Mutt, please contact Sharon at belleboxer@comcast.net or 713.594-4565.
