If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Boxer. 12/7/16 Update Well, surgery is done and I'm on the mend! My foster dad reports that I'm doing physical therapy and learning to use my back leg again! I feel like a new girl! I'm enjoying my foster home and all four of my foster fur siblings but I must admit, I'm ready for my very own family to love and dote on and it would be great if I found them just in time for Christmas! *********************************************************************************** 10/12/16 Update Hi everyone....Gretta Grace checking in! I'm now in a wonderful foster home and my foster dad reports that I'm a great girl who is very well mannered! I walk well on a leash, know basic commands, is house broken and crate trained. I share my foster home with five other large breed dogs. Because I'm a more dominant female, my foster dad made sure that I was slowly introduced to the rest of his pack to ensure a smooth transition. He says I'm just like all other boxers....I've settled in with everyone just fine! He also says that I love people and, although I enjoy lots of attention, I'm also happy playing with my chew toys! There are no kids or cats in my foster home so I have never been evaluated around either. I'm set to have surgery to fix my hip very soon. It will take me a little time to recover but I'll be better than ever and ready to go to my forever home as soon as I heal! ********************************************************************************** Meet Gretta Grace......I'm a pretty fawn girl estimated to be about 3 years old. I was found as a stray so there is not yet a lot known about me. The nice lady that picked me up from the shelter says that I'm very affectionate, I walk well on a leash, was a very good car rider and I know how to 'sit' on command! More information about me will be posted when it becomes available.

Posted Breed: Boxer. My name is Roxy....I'm a senior girl.....somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 yrs old. Can you believe that I was found as a stray living on the mean streets of Houston at my age! Talk about tough......I should be enjoying my golden years on a comfy couch being spoiled rotten and instead I found myself having to constantly watch my back, sleep under cars or where ever I could find and scrounging for food! Thankfully, a very nice lady found me while she was out riding her bike and could not leave me....lucky me! I am so happy to be off the streets and being cared for.....I've been fully vetted now and was found to be heart worm positive but I am currently undergoing treatment for them! I'm dog friendly, people friendly and reported to be a huge cuddle bug! I'm also house broken as well as crate trained. As you can tell, I'm an awesome girl but I've yet to find a forever home or a foster home so I'm spending my days in boarding. I'd much rather be in a home where I can get the love and attention I crave. Don't get me wrong, I'm VERY happy to be safe but I really want to find a home of my very own to live out my retirement years! My finder is willing to sponsor me to a qualifying forever home.....Please contact Tandy Tipps at onefourthreepia@yahoo.com to inquire about me.

Posted Breed: Boxer. Hi, I'm Sabine. I'm a sweet, playful girl estimated to be about 2 years old. A nice lady found me as a stray and fed me, loved me, and helped me find my way into the LSBR program! I recently landed in a great foster home where I'm learning so much. I am leash trained, house broken, crate trained and know basic commands like sit and stay. Some of my favorite things include playping tug of war with my fur sister, Bella, nibbling/gnawing on my bones and having my ears and belly rubbed! My foster dad says that I have settled in well with my fur sisters. Because I can be a little bossy, a proper introduction to my canine friends is key. He also says that I'm a playful nibbler which may be too much for smaller dogs and small children. I am so happy to be in my foster home with playmates, lots of love and attention! While I'm having a great time, I'm really anxious to find my forever home! My foster dad says that my optimal forever home would be one that is equal parts active and couch potato because, although I'm an energetic girl, I simply love my cuddle time with the family!!!

Posted Breed: Boxer. Hola amigos, I'm Teddy! Just like my name implies, I'm a total teddy bear! I know just by looking at my incredibly handsome face you want to meet me, just in case you need some more convincing, let me give you 3 good reasons why I'm the perfect pup for you… 1) I'm super chill and friendly, I have a sweet disposition and I don't get too overwhelmingly excited. 2) I get along well with other dogs. In fact my doggy-jail cellmate was much larger than me and we got along just great! 3) I have the softest brindle coat and I'm healthy and at a good weight. So there you have it, three reasons why you just won't be able to say no to me. In my years on this earth, I've learned there is more to life than being really, really, really, ridiculously good looking…having a family that will love me and never leave my side is the greatest gift any pup could ever have. In return, my gift to you will be unconditional love forever!

Posted Breed: Boxer. Hello folks....we are Sadie and Max and we're happy to be in the LSBR program! We were surrendered by our family to a local animal shelter and, to be honest, we were scared but having one another made to lean on, we knew we'd get through the ordeal! We are sweet, happy, typical boxers! We get along well with people of all ages but probably best around kids 5+ given my (Max) size and exuberance for life! We are also happy around other dogs but we are not fond of cats! It seems that we are house broken, crate trained and leash trained. As you can imagine, we love one another very much so we need to find a home that is willing to take us both! Sadie (brindle) is 4 years old (born 12/5/11) and Max (fawn) is 3 years old (born 2/19/13). Sadie seems to be more laid back than Max. You know what they say about boxers......we're like potato chips....you can't have just one! And what a pair we are......truly beautiful boxers on the inside and out!

Posted Breed: Boxer. WHOA.......you are not going to believe what I've been through! I'm just so thankful for LSBR...without them, I'm not sure what my future might have held! I came into the program with an eye injury and a bad infection but they made sure that I got the help I needed! Unfortunately, I had to have my left eye removed but I'm moving past that! I'm now the happy boxer boy I was meant to be! I won't let my disability (if you want to call it that) slow me down! By the way, you may remember the fund that was set up to help them pay for my surgery....THANK YOU to all that helped! I'm all better now and I'm in a foster home where I'm settling in just fine. In fact, Ive made myself right at home.....running, playing....I'm having a ball! I'm even tipping my paws in the pool when my foster family is swimming....it's so nice on a hot Houston day! I'm good with other dogs as well as kids. I have discovered my foster dad's bald head and I must say, I'm enamored! I love it.....but a bald head is not a must for my forever home! What IS a must for my forever home......love and lots of it!!!! I've got my paws crossed for an awesome forever home.....what do you say?!

Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Bulldog / Mixed. My name is Jeff which is understandable since I was found wandering with my friend, Mutt. We are roughly 4-5 years old and not much is known about us at the moment. When we were found, we were pretty low. We had little hope of making it and had just about given up. After so many people passed us by, a nice lady stopped for us.....finally! We were overjoyed....we couldn't believe it! We were at the point of trusting anyone that offered to take us off the streets! Since we were found with eachother, it is believed that we are good with other dogs. We have not shown any aggression towards anyone or anything so we seem to be good around people of all ages. We haven't been observed around cats. For more information about me or my buddy Mutt, please contact Sharon at belleboxer@comcast.net or 713.594-4565.

Posted Breed: Boxer. Hi folks.........Just like Scarlet in 'Gone with the Wind', I'm a beautiful Southern girl! I am super sweet and I absolutely love attention more than anything! I'm about 6 years young and I simply love life! I am happiest when I'm spending time with my people! I love children! I have to say that I'm a little skiddish of strange adults at first....it takes me a little while to warm up, but when I do, I'm extremely loyal to my family! I love going for car rides and I enjoy my baths and nail trims! Like most younger boxers, I have a lot of energy so I would do very well in an active family! I should tell you that I'm somewhat of a prima donna.......I have what some would call a dominant personality....I like to think I have a very large personality! Anyway, having other dogs or cats in my home is not preferrable. Like most Houstonians, I have allergies but they are easily controlled by a healthy diet (from pork and pea). Well, I'm absolutely adorable! I'm also house broken and crate trained. I'm really a love bug that just wants to be the center of attention........If you are looking for a sweet girl that loves attention and expects a lot of love and loyalty in return, I'm your girl! To inquire about me, please contact Steven at 832-257-9259.

Well, that is a big misconception about white boxers. Very few white boxers are actually deaf and I'm not. As you can see from my picture, I don't mind going for car rides or lounging with my people during a lazy afternoon! I love to run and play though so I would love a home with other dogs and a big back yard! I also love my people and have even been known to get along well with cats! I have been known to have a strong personality so I need a strong owner and fur siblings who are okay with my personality. You know what they say.....diamonds are a girl's best friend; however, I'm confident that everybody will love this Diamond! Won't you give me a forever home?
