Posted Breed: Pointer / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). 3 y/o pointer/pittie, male, green eyes, very protective Grayson is a beautiful 3 year old, energetic and loves being around and playing with other dogs. He is very protective of whoever cares for him, which appears to be fear based behavior and would improve in the right environment. Grayson is housebroken, trained in basic commands and LOVES to please. You will never find a dog more devoted! Grayson is a special dog who needs a special person to love him.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

She was found in Habersham County Animal Control, with one of her back legs broken in 2 places. She had a dislocated hip on the other side. She's the perfect companion. She has been living in her foster home since December and here's what her foster has to say: Betty gets along well with cats, dogs and kids. She is approx. 3-5 years old Lab mix. Fully vetted, Heartworm negative and spayed She rides well in the car. For further information, contact Claire at swcheavenlyhounds@gmail.com

      TOMMY

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Australian Shepherd-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd / Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (long coat). Young male, aussie mix full of fun The lovable Tommy was kept for the first year of his life on a porch! He didn't get enough exercise or attention. However, now that he's at our rescue, he's blossoming. Tommy is about a year old, an Aussie mix, who weighs about 60 lbs. He is happy and very sweet with everyone he meets. He is very smart and quickly learning to walk on a leash. He's shy to get into a vehicle, but with some persuasion, we were able to take him for a walk in the park. He's fully vetted and gets along with other dogs. Due to his breed mix, cats would probably not be a good match for Tommy. But older kids, over 12, would be fine. Because he lived on a porch, we doubt he's housebroken. But Aussie mixes are extremely smart and he will catch on fast.

      Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Good things come in small pagkages! Nala is a small package of sweet terrier love. Nala is on the shy side, but once she gets to know you, which doesn't take long, she will love you. Nala had pups but those days are behind her now. She's fully vetted and ready to go home. Because of her shy nature, a few meetings would be helpful to get to know her. She may be fine with other dogs and kids but we have to take introductions slowly. Nala is not aggressive or mean, just shy. She has lived in a foster home but is now at the shelter.

Possible terrier/heeler/feist?? She's about 2 years old and weighs around 45 lbs. Michelle is good in the car, walks great on a leash and gets along with most dogs her size. Don't think Michelle and cats would be a good combo, but kids would be fine. Michelle loves to play with toys and is not a barker. She is heartworm positive but is starting on her medication to take care of that. Lets find sweet Michelle a loving home to call her own.
