Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Wesley is a 2 year old Pit Bull Mix rescued from a kill shelter. He experiences some separation anxiety and would do well with a family where someone is home most of the time has lots of time to spend with him. He does great with other big dogs, but is not a fan of smaller animals. He was tested around a cat and could care less that the cat was there, but no small dogs or puppies. He is a very relaxed dog who enjoys going for car rides, loves walks, is getting used to the water at the beach and will put his feet in the small waves finally. He really is a loving dog who would do best as a single dog as he loves the attention for himself (has some possessive issues - won't let my dogs near me sometimes etc). He is kind of lazy - but he's finally doing dog things like going down on his elbows and wagging his tail letting you know he wants to play. He knows basic commands such as sit, paw, and stay. He's a love bug. Up to date on his shots, neutered and microchipped and on Heartworm preventative. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). This is a courtesy post for the owner of this dog. You will not be adopting from Castle of Dreams Animal Rescue. Please contact the owner directly through the contact info provided below. Castle Of Dreams has no further information to provide. kadelgador@gmail.com 732-915-4140 Diamond is an 8 year old blue/red-nose female pitbull. She is about 70 lbs, with a champagne coat, obsessed with playing catch. ew are unsure if she is still good with other dogs, as Niko has been the only other dog she's been exposed to in recent years. When she was a pup up until 2 years of age, she was extremely sociable. She was actually AKC Star Puppy certified. She's afraid of thunder, fireworks, brooms and plastic bags. She loves to cuddle, and is incredibly social with humans. We have a 20 month old at home, and she is great with him. Our other dog is a 7 year old male Amstaff. His name is Niko, weighs about 80 lbs with a dark gray/white coat. He is not that great with other dogs (He doesn't attack, but makes a strange high-pitched bark when he sees other dogs). We think he just doesn't know how to communicate/socialize with other dogs, and that is our fault for not socializing him well. He is incredibly social with humans and is also great with our 20 month old. He loves to eat! Where Diamond will do ANYTHING for a ball, Niko will do anything for a treat! He tends to urinate when he gets too excited, especially when a person tries to greet him. We always make sure he is walked right before visitors arrive. Both dogs are up-to-date with vaccines, are spayed/neutered, have never had any major surgeries, never had major health problems (although Niko gets rashes from the warm weather). They both know their basic commands (sit, stay, down, heel, wait, ok [release], paw, roll over, go, off/up), and they're very good listeners. They aim to please, and get very sad if you get upset with them. They are wonderful dogs who deserve the best home(s)!

Posted Breed: Pointer (short coat). Please Note: No children under the age of 7 Suki is a two year female pointer mix. She is on the smaller side weighing approximately 35 pounds. She is very sweet but a little shy and cautious until she trusts you. She was found as a stray very thin and dirty so she was on her own for awhile. We fear she has been abused as she cowers when she hears a noise. She loves to run and play and loves other dogs and people. She has not been tested with cats. She is 98% housebroken but needs some work on training with basic commands and manners which her foster family is working with her on. Suki would make a wonderful companion to an active family. As pointers are high energy dogs that need to keep busy. She sleeps in her crate at night and is getting used to her new routine! Breed: Mountain Cur-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Mountain Cur / Mixed (short coat). Please note- No children under the age of 18. Kona is a 2 year-old male Mountain Cur. At first glance he is charming and witty. True to his breed, he is strong-willed and reserved with strangers – until he gets to know you! He trains easily and is always enthusiastic about learning something new. Cur’s were bred to protect livestock and family from intruders. Kona proved that ability by protecting his home and family. He is dog friendly but can be fickle with certain dogs. A good match for Kona is a family that is active and involves him in their daily lives. Hiking, walking, running and continued obedience training. With an active mind that needs creative stimulation he will not fare well being left home alone for long periods of time. Kona would do well with a patient, kind and consistent owner. As well as a large-fenced yard where he can chase squirrels, walks in the park, beaches and playing ball. He is very social once he has approved you for his family! Kona is neutered and up to date with vaccinations. Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). My name is Bleu, I'm a 3-5 year old Shepard mix with more love to give than I know what to do with. I love playing outside in my own yard and just lying on the couch with my favorite person. I am housebroken and crate trained. My foster mom says I have a lot of personality, and with the right home I am going to be someone's best friend. I would do best in a house as the only dog, with a fenced in yard. I am eager to please you and hope you will consider adopting me! Bleu is an alpha dog who is not good around other dogs. She needs a home with NO other animals, a backyard with a secure, 6-foot fence to keep her safely contained, and loving, but watchful adopters to keep her from other dogs and all to themselves. Bleu is under 30 pounds and would make a great companion for the right home. Bleu is spayed and up to date on all vaccinations. Her adoption also includes free in home training to her new family.
