Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Hello my name is Betsy and I'm as sweet as I am gorgeous! I'm the perfect mix of energy and cuddle buddy and take direction well. I'm told that I'm a very smart girl who knows basic obedience and my foster parents say I'm a quick learner. So far I know sit, down, wait/stay, leave it, come, high five, shake, and my release command (ok). I'm also learning rollover! They continue to teach me new things all the time which is great fun. Since arriving to TCPR I haven't met any other dogs or cats yet so it's unclear how I'll do and will require slow intros if you have any other pets in the home. I LOVE kids. My foster parents have nieces, nephews and younger siblings and I was very gentle when I met the 3-5 year old kids. I should still be supervised with them though since I'm a pretty large dog. Toys are great too. I enjoy playing with my peanut butter stuffed kong, everlasting toys, squeaky balls, and stuffed squeaky animals (I tear these apart pretty fast though). I also love running around the backyard, getting yummy treats from my fosters, and hanging out in the living room with them. I don't like being left alone in a room when my fosters are home. If they both leave the room I typically follow them even if it means leaving my dinner or treats behind. Despite this, I do great in my crate at night and while my fosters are away at work. I don't whine or get upset when I'm crated which will make transitioning to my adoptive home much easier than if I wasn't crate trained! MEET ME/ADOPT ME: If you’d like to arrange a meeting or begin the adoption process, please fill out an adoption application by visiting www.twincitiespetrescue.org/adopt/adopt-a-dog/. A volunteer from Twin Cities Pet Rescue will contact you once your application is reviewed. FOSTER HOMES NEEDED!!! Twin Cities Pet Rescue is a volunteer-run, foster home-based organization. We can only rescue as many animals as available foster homes. Please consider saving the life of an animal in need and become a volunteer foster home today. To become a foster, fill out a dog or cat foster application on the Twin Cities Pet Rescue website: www.twincitiespetrescue.org. There is little to no cost to foster an animal. Twin Cities Pet Rescue provides its foster families with food, supplies, and veterinary care for its animals. All you need to do is supply the love! PLEASE NOTE: Twin Cities Pet Rescue does not adopt to homes further than 60 miles from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro Area.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

I am a lovable german shepherd mix with a big noggin and weigh about 80 pounds. People guess I am around 3 years old. I love lounging around the house and am not too energetic, but I do like to play and chase after tennis balls. Other dogs and I get along great, but I haven't really been around cats or children yet. Sometimes I am a little scared of men, but usually after getting acquainted with them we are fine. I am very attentive to my foster family and love being around them. I am potty trained and behave very well when left at home during the day. We are working on learning more tricks, and with my level of intelligence, very soon I will know more! I form strong bonds with those around me; when my foster-mom isn't home, I snuggle with her shoe. I would do great in any home that wants a loving, cuddly dog. Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (short coat). ABOUT ME: Millie is a very loyal female Shepard mix. She is a typical high-energy 2 year old! When Millie first arrived in foster care, she was fearful of new people (especially men) and would often react by barking. Millie's foster home is working hard on this fearful behavior and helping her feel calm and confident when meeting new people. Millie has come leaps and bounds in just a few months! Millie does OK with other animals, including dogs and cats. She would also do well in a home with older children. Millie continues to make progress with meeting new people and her ideal forever home will be one that challenges her with training and lots of mental stimulation. She loves to learn! Once Millie warms up to you, she is an absolute doll who enjoys cuddle and giving kisses. She enjoys playing and going for walks too! Millie's ideal adoptive home will be one that can always supervise play with older children and other animals. Millie will need slow introductions to new people and continued training. A quiet home will serve her best. Millie enjoys time with her people and learning how to be a well-behaved dog. Are the home she is searching for? Yes, I know I am a big boy but it's because my heart is so heavy with all the love I have for the people around me. I am not sure how I ended up here because my foster mom keeps telling me that I am the best dog she has ever known. I have so much fun here. I live with two kids and we run and play outside all day. I am really gentle with the them, but I can't resist giving them big wet kisses and they giggle really hard. I love when we roll around in the grass together and play football. Playing football is my favorite thing to do. Well, that and cuddling. I walk well on a leash and don't pull unless I see something really interesting. I do OK in a crate if my people are nearby, but I don't need to be crated because I'm very well-behaved! I usually just relax and wait patiently for my people to come home. Did I mention I love being around my people?? I'm careful to listen to them when they give me a command. I know sit, stay, come, shake, down and I would never think of having an accident in the house. My foster mom keeps telling me that someone wonderful is going to bring me to my forever home and you know what? I think she's right! Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Approximate Age: 3 About Me: Hello world my name is "Buddy"! I am a 2 yr old male Pit Bull Terrier. I was found at an animal shelter where I had been staying for about a month... I was there because my owner happened upon circumstances that would allow him to no longer be able to care for me. I really am a good boy, I love to give and get love, I'm very playful and love to play fetch outside, but in the house I'm also a very laid back chill guy who would love nothing more than to sit and your feet and get head pets! I have a lot of fun playing with the resident dog in my foster home we get along great even though I was kind of shy at first! I do need time to warm up to new friends but once I warm up to them we will be best friends forever!! There are tiny humans where I am staying .. the people call them kids! OOOhhh I love kids the way the giggle when you lick them plus they always seem to give the best pets... and have the softest beds! There is also a cat here where I am at but we don't really talk much I prefer to keep my distance! I am a very happy guy overall. I enjoy being close with the people I am with as it gives me opportunity for snuggles and pets. I would also say I am a go with the flow character I will go outside and play when you want jog with you if you want or sit and watch movies on the couch and lounge; if you want to do it then so do I! I am also a great listener I listen to the tiny humans even when they tell me to drop my toy or shake! I am 100% potty trained and same with my kennel... though I may not always jump tail wagging to go in it.. Okay let me be honest sometimes I may cry or whimper when I am in my kennel but I am sure to make you smile and not mad... because I sound like Chewbacca!!! The best fit for me in my opinion would be someone that is willing to love me! I would love someone that is active and can play but also someone that will hold me and love me! I wouldn't mind having another furbuddy to play with either! I am really a for anyone kind of guy! MEET ME/ADOPT ME: If you’d like to arrange a meeting or begin the adoption process, please fill out an adoption application by visiting www.twincitiespetrescue.org/adopt/adopt-a-dog/. If you are interested in fostering Jax, please complete a foster application at www.twincitiespetrescue.org/how-to-foster/foster-a-dog/. AGE AND SIZE: Approximately 1 year old and 55 lbs. ABOUT ME: Jax is a sweet and independent boy who loves to play and is eager to learn. He is still quite young, so he is full of energy and needs plenty of physical and mental stimulation every day. After some exercise, he is ready to snuggle up on the couch. Although he is a great dog, he will need a strong handler who has the time to get him plenty of exercise and continue working on his basic manners and obedience. Jax came to TCPR from an impound. He had been found as a stray and his owners were never located. He is in good health and was likely cared for at one point in his life. He is house trained and his foster parents have been teaching him basic commands, such as sit, down, watch me, kennel up, and wait. So far, he is doing very well. He is very treat-motivated and learns quickly. Jax would do best in a home with older children. Because he is young and doesn't quite know his own size and strength, he may accidentally knock down a small child. He would also really enjoy a fenced yard where he can run around and play. He does well with other dogs, but needs slow introductions. Due to his lack of training, he can come off as pushy to other dogs. He is doing much better, though, and currently lives with a male pitbull mix. The two get along great and like to play with each other. With continued training and plenty of exercise, Jax will grow into a wonderful boy. I'm great with other dogs, especially if they want to play. Cats aren't that interesting to me and I pretty much ignore them. I really enjoy playing with kids - all the attention is great! Honestly, I totally like being the center of attention. I am happiest when everyone is paying attention to me. I'll follow my people around and come almost immediately when called. When it's time to settle down, I love being held and cuddled. My potty training is going really well because I'm happy to follow my humans outside. I like to talk to my humans, too. Location: St Paul, MN
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Approximate Age: 3 years old Approximate Weight: 60-65 lbs About Me: As you can see, Tucker is undeniably handsome! Besides that, he is an awesome listener and is a total rock star when it comes to knowing the rules. He has graduated from dog obedience and is very well trained: potty, kennel, walks AMAZING on a leash, knows come, sit, wait, stay, down, look at me and leave it. His very favorite thing to do is go for a W-A-L-K! He will chug along right by your side, checking in with you regularly. He loves to go-go-go at a nice steady pace. Tucker's personal request is that you LOVE walks if you adopt him. Then it's a toss up between food and snuggles! Tucker is extremely smart, treat motivated, affectionate and love, love, loves cuddle time. Be ready for a big blocky head to rest on your shoulder every single night. In addition to being affectionate and smart, Tucker has also shown us that he is extremely resilient. See, the first couple years of his life were pretty hard on him. Because of this, he requires that you to earn his trust first so he knows you're safe. Since some wonderful people helped get him into the safety of rescue, he has made great strides, working daily learning to be a calm, confident dog. With slow & calm introductions, he does great meeting new people. If you're patient and caring, I guarantee Tucker will be your lifelong, loyal partner. He just needs someone to give him the chance at a healthy life with a supportive family. Though he has lived with both small and large dogs before, we feel he would do best in a home as an only pet or with a calm balanced dog and with a dog-savvy, experienced family. Young children not recommended. No known allergies. Are you the family that has a soft spot for this young gentleman? He would love a forever home that will always have his back and advocate for him. There's nothing more rewarding than helping bring out the best in a dog. We're all excited to see how far he can go! Is it with you? Motherhood was not for me and I'm so thankful my foster family helped me with my fur children. All my pups are moving on to their forever homes and it's finally my turn. I'm a sweet girl who would really like a playmate. I'm great with other dogs of all shapes and sizes. Cats are so much fun but I sometimes have a hard time understanding when playtime is over. I've learned my lesson the hard way a few times... I really like kids after I have time to get to know them and realize they are not scary. I am sometimes afraid of strangers, but I'm learning that new people can sometimes be great, especially when they give me yummy treats! My foster mom says I'm my mom's mini me because we look a lot a like and we both are silly, happy, and playful. Although I definitely play more than I sleep, I do enjoy a good nap now and again, but only after I've had plenty of time with my toys and brothers and sisters. I really like other dogs, but big dogs can sometimes be intimidating. As soon as I know they want to play, though, I'm all in. I like to play chase-me and run around the yard. I'll try to play with cats, but if they don't want to play with me, I'll usually leave them alone. I think kids are great, especially the ones that will run, jump, and play with me. I enjoy being held and cuddled when I'm tired, but if there is something exciting going on, I'd prefer to be in on the action. I can't to miss out on anything fun, you know! My potty training is going really well because I love to be outside. Sometimes it's hard for me to listen when I'm called because I enjoy being outside so much. I'm getting better at it, though. I like following around the older dogs because they find the best spots to explore. I'm a very curious pup and I want to explore the world. Going for walks is another one of my favorite things to do. I get to see so many new and fun things on my walks. My ideal home would be one with another dog and lots of humans to play with. My foster mom says I'm super smart and would really like to go through puppy school and learn all sorts of new tricks. To keep my curious mind busy and fulfill my love of the outdoors, a big yard or lots of walks is a must!
