Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Hi! My name is Rock and I’m a 3 year old pit bull mix. I was found in Canada. Pit bulls are banned in Canada and I was going to be euthanized. Lucky for me some nice people stood up for me and brought me to New York. I am currently looking for my forever home. I love to play fetch. I also love to play in the water and swim! My obedience is TOP NOTCH!! I’m excellent on walks and on leash. My recall is so awesome that I can be off leash at times. I am currently training in Agility and I LOVE it! I’m housebroken and neutered. I am also crate trained. I’m current on all my vaccinations and healthy. I only ask that I’m the only dog in the home. I don’t want to have to share your attention! I am currently fostered at Canine Academy. I would love to find a place to call my own! Rock is a courtesy post. If interested, please call Colleen at 716-759-9406. All dogs come fully up to date on shots, microchipped, heart worm tested, de-wormed, on flea and heart worm preventative, and spayed/neutered. If interested in learning more or adopting please fill out an application on our website at www.buffalocares.org.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

I like to hang out with my people, play with my toys and chew my bones. I love everybody I meet, including my foster mom's granddaughter. Kids are the best because they let me roll all over them and give kisses! I love to go for walks, but not too long. Did I mention I'm a couch potato. I also enjoy a nice car ride, especially if it ends in a treat for me. I like being by my humans side or in the safety of my crate, I am housebroken and crate trained. I also enjoy having my room to lounge in while my people are away., I am such a good boy that I do not need to be crates. Could I be the perfect match for you? Apply for me today! Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $300 plus $50 training deposit. Hi there!! My name is Celia and my foster Mom says I am a beautiful little girl. What do you think?? My foster Mom tells me all the time what a tiny little peanut I am and what a huge personality I have. I can be a little shy at first but I warm up quickly. I am a very happy puppy looking for my forever home, I wonder if that could be you!!! Let me tell you a bit about myself so we can make sure that you and I would be the perfect fit before you decide to bring me home. I am quite the loveable little girl. I love to cuddle and my foster Mom tells me I am good at it! I enjoy all the doggie toys in the house, the more the better! I love to play with my foster siblings and they love to play with me too!! I also love the outdoors and to be in the backyard rolling in the grass and taking in all the new smells. I love to run and play, sometimes I even chase my own shadow on the grass!! I am approximately 7 weeks old and around 8 pounds. I am crate trained and will sleep there at night, but I really would rather be as close to you as possible!! Did I tell you that I am a master at that cuddling stuff!!! I am learning to walk on a leash but I will need some help with that…I am just a tiny puppy you know. We are working on my potty training and I am learning, but I will still need some help with that too, and with your patience and guidance I will have it down in no time. I have not been around children or cats but I am sure I will be just fine with either. Whoever ends up adopting me will be very lucky, because my foster Mom says so!! Celia's adoption fee is $300 + $50 training deposit that is refunded upon proof of completion of an obedience course. All dogs come fully up to date on shots, microchipped, heart worm tested, de-wormed, on flea and heart worm preventative, and spayed/neutered. Posted Breed: Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $225.00. Hi, my name is Maya!!! I am a happy happy girl! I love people- My favorite things are to be petted, scratched, and loved. I can't get enough attention. But I do take breaks to play ball, chew my nylabone, and nap. I jump into my crate for a snack and am quiet. I do wear diapers in the house because I was injured in my past but I can run and jump and play like the other dogs I share my home with. I'm looking for a home of my own. I could share a home with dogs and cats who are easy going. My foster mom thinks I would do fine with kids too. I'm working on my basic skills but have mastered sit! If you can offer me a home filled with love I'll be your best friend. Maya's adoption fee is $225. All dogs come fully up to date on shots, microchipped, heart worm tested, de-wormed, on flea and heart worm preventative, and spayed/neutered. Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $225+$50 Training Deposit. Hi! My name is Vixen, and the nice folks at Buffalo Cares all tell me that I am one foxy little lady! I came to Buffalo Cares all the way from Charlotte NC; where I was lost when picked up by the local shelter. At the time I was also sick with Parvovirus, but I survived with the help of some amazing people and now I am 100% healthy. My dream now is to find a home to call my own with a gentle person who will love me just the way I am. I am a happy and fun loving gal; I like going on short walks and I just love going on car rides. My most favorite thing of all is just to be with people. And maybe because of all that I have been through, I really need to find a home where I can hang my leash and have it be the only leash. I love people with my whole heart and I really just need to be your one & only 4-legged love. Aside from my pretty smile, you may have noticed that I do have one small imperfection. You can see in my photos that I have a deformed front leg. I was born like this; it just never grew like the rest of my legs. But this doesn't stop me one bit! I am a brave girl and I am determined to live life to it's fullest. Just so you know - I am crate trained and housebroken. And I can have my leash and toys packed up and ready to go faster than you can say "awwww isn't she adorable"! :-) Please give me a chance.....I am ready to just sit back and enjoy life with you! Vixen's adoption fee is $225 + $50 training deposit that is refunded upon proof of completion of an obedience course. All dogs come fully up to date on shots, microchipped, heart worm tested, de-wormed, on flea and heart worm preventative, and spayed/neutered.
