Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Stewie is an awesome boy. He was born January 2012. He is very friendly, has moderate energy, LOVES to go for car rides, enjoys chewing his bones, playing with his balls and loves the good ole butt and back scratches. Stewie can be a "rough" lover at times. He doesn't mean to get overly excited with some loving, but he just gets very happy with his pettings. He knows all basic commands and is great with obedience, he is so very smart !!!!! Stewie also knows how to kiss on command ! Stewie needs to be the only pet (no cats, no dogs) in the household. This is not to say he is dog aggressive, he simply is too rough for the majority of dogs and can get possessive of food and toys. If there are any kids in the house, they should be old enough to participate in dog care and able to follow directions. Stewie even has his one Face Book fan page : stewie adopt me. Go check out some more great pictures of this guy !!! Adoption fee for Stewie is $75.00

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Tucker - IN ...

      rescue
      Breed: Bulloxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Lake Ann, MI
Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Tucker was left at the shelter by his owners. His time was running out and we knew we could help this boy so we welcomed him into our group. Tucker is about 2 years old and is very pleasant with people. He has a sweet temperament. He gets along well with other dogs and even cats. He would do fine with older kids. He does love to cuddle and curl up on his bed and just hang out. He enjoys having his head rubbed and his chest rubbed also. He really is not a licker but will occasionally get in your face looking for some extra loving. Tucker is a pretty clean dog and does not get into anything in the house nor does he chew any furniture or anything else up. We would like to see Tucker go to a home where the owners are home more often than not as well. Tucker is a smart boy and responds real well to verbal communication and knows when you are telling him NO or encouraging him, regardless of the command. He loves to go for a jog or a nice walk and is very good on a leash. He likes to watch the squirrels run all over with a very keen look, but will recall easy when you tell him, no. He is crate trained and is not much of a barker. He also enjoys going for car rides and looks forward to his mom putting him in the car so they can go to the park for some exercise and play time. Whoever adopts Tucker, we will recommend that they take him to obedience class to continue to improve on communications with him and to help with the bonding between him and the adopter. When Tucker went to the vets, after he came into our group, it was discovered. he had A LOT of crystals in his urine, which the vet feels was caused by his poor diet. This was also causing him to have frequent urination issues. He was also put on some antibiotics as well. Left untreated, he could have develop urinary stones, but we caught the infection in time. He was also treated for whipworms. Tucker is neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm negative and is free of internal parasites. He is also micro chipped. His adoption fee is $150.

      Location: Lake Ann, MI
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Bonnie was found as a stray in Ohio. Thankfully the shelter reached out to us and we had room to bring this sweet, senior girl into our group on April 12, 2017. She is estimated to be about 11-12 years old. Bonnie is a very sweet, very dear distinguished girl. She gets along with everybody and enjoys the company of other dogs as well. she is an easy going, easy to love precious girl. Yes, we know she is an older girl, but she still has alot of life to live and ALOT OF LOVE to share with her new family. She is really good with kids as well. Bonnie had surgery April 24th to clean her teeth, remove some of the gum overgrowth, extractions and remove some non-cancerous masses. Her foster parents are feeding her really good and she is slowly gaining back some much-needed weight. She is spayed, current on all vaccines, heart worm negative and been treated for all internal parasites. We hope that somebody gives Bonnie a chance at a new home, where she can snuggle and be buds with them. We feel that senior boxers are the best of them all. They still have the goofy, funny characteristics of the boxer, just on a calmer demeanor. Her adoption fee has been sponsored.

      Breed: Bullboxer Pit
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Lake Ann, MI
Posted Breed: Boxer / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). This boy was in a shelter for several weeks and when we first got him, he was scared of everything and would coward a lot. He was even terrified sometimes of being touched. We are thinking he may have been abused prior due to his fear. But his foster mom has been working with him, letting him know he will receive gentle and kind hands that pet him, and he has slowly been getting better. He was also very emaciated when he arrived at the shelter but between the shelter and his foster mom feeding him good food, he is looking so much more better. Gus does great with other dogs and even cats. He does love to run around his foster moms back yard and play with anybody who will play with him. We think Gus would do better with older kids or at least kids that might be more on the calmer side, at least until he gets to know them. Gus does have a great personality and really wants to please. He is housebroken, crate trained and likes to be goofy or just crawl into your lap with you and say HI. Nice gently rubbins is what he likes the most. Gus is neutered, current on all vaccines, heart worm negative and has been treated for worms. He is also microchipped. His adoption fee is $150

      Location: Lake Ann, MI
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Abby was an owner surrender as Abby was displaying some anxiety issues and the owner just did not have time for her. Upon coming into our rescue, she is doing much better and we discovered that she would benefit greatly from having another dog around her for company and to play with. She would also benefit if somebody was at home at bit more as well. She is about 3 years old and gets along with kids as well but definitely NO CATS for her. She is heart worm positive and is currently going through treatment right now. She is crate trained, housebroken, loves going for car rides and listens pretty well when you ask her to do something. She is a beautiful girl that just wants to be accepted and loved and knows that she is safe. She is spayed, current on vaccines, will be heartworm negative prior to being adopted, and has been dewormed. She is also microchipped as well. Her adoption fee is $350

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). LOOK AT BEEFCAKE !!! This boy is as precious as he looks !!! He ended up in a shelter where his time was running out - quickly. We could not pass up this boy and brought him into our group. Upon getting him a medical evaluation, it is determined that he needed his luxating patella repaired with surgery. Surgery was performed on March 14th at Heritage Vet. He was also neutered at the same time. He was being treated for a bad case of kennel cough but is all healed up and the infection is gone. His foster mom says he is THE SWEETEST BOY and has personality PLUS !!! He likes to "talk" to her and loves to be petted. He does great with other dogs and would be really good with kids, but he is NOT fond of cats. They look to tasty to him. He LOVES playing with toys, especially the ones that squeak and running around in the back yard. He is housebroken, crate trained and loves going bye-bye. He is more on the calmer/quieter side but still likes to enjoy a good run in his foster moms back yard and going for a quick jog. Upon adoption, he will be neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative and cleared of any internal parasites. He is also microchipped. His adoption fee is $250

      Location: Lake Ann, MI
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Mabel was found as a stray in Detroit. This girl is a sweet girl and the first thing that we can tell you that she loves, is to PLAY WITH TOYS and loves to do ZOOMIES around the house. When the shelter brought her in, she had a cherry eye in one of her eyes. We have surgically removed that and have also treated her for tapeworms as she was loaded with them. Mabel is good with people once she has a few moments to get to know them. What helps her to warm up even quicker is if you have some treats, than you are her friend ! Her favorite treats are PUP PERONI treats !!! Loves them. She really enjoys when you sit on the floor with her, or you let her snuggle with you while you are relaxing. She is not fond of cats and will chase them if she sees any. Also, we recommend no small dogs as we think she sees them as cats. She gets along with some dogs and feel she would do best with an older, more submissive dog. She is crate trained, housebroken, loves going for car rides and daily walks so she can smell all the scents in the air and get those legs moving. Mabel is very smart and knows a lot of her basic obedience. She walks great on her leash, and listens very well to what you are asking her. You usually only have to ask her once to do something. Well behaved.

      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Lake Ann, MI
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Marla was pulled from a shelter in Ohio. She had spent about two months there when the shelter contacted us to see if we had room for her. She came from a home where there was multiple dogs and they were not being taken care of, so animal control got involved. She is a very sweet, kind soul that we believe may have been overbred. She is happy, with an outgoing personality. She loves people and would do fine with kids, but no cats for Marla. She is selective with which dogs she will get along with, so you have a dog, we would just have to do a meet and greet to see if she gets along with them. She is on the larger size of 71lbs and her foster mom is working on getting a few pounds off of her. Marla is a gorgeous girl who is fawn colored with a large white bib on her chest, a docked tail and natural ears. She loves going for walks or outside to play for some fun-and-games. She has been spayed, current on all vaccines, heart worm negative and has been treated for worms. She is microchipped. Her adoption fee is $150

Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). LUCKY WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AT LEAST UNTIL MAY 20, 2017. Lucky came to us as an owner surrender. They were not financially able to continue to take care of his medical needs so they reached out to us. They made a great decision because this boy is going to be treated like a king and get all healthy before he is adopted. He came to us with a really bad skin infection and was heartworm positive. His skin was a complete hot mess and had a yeast infection all over his body, along with secondary rashes. His foster parents says the boy is such a gem and he is so funny with his facial expressions and his personality. He is a very easy going, laid back boy that loves to just hang out with whoever will bless him with their time. He loves everybody and everything. He is great with kids and dogs, but not so much with cats. He thinks they are too fun to chase. He is a very calm and friendly boy. His foster mom says he is PERSONALITY PLUS with how he is. Just a wonderful, fabulous boy all the way around. Lucky is housebroken, great on a leash and with his basic obedience. He will be neutered before he is available to be adopted. He is current on all vaccines, and was treated for internal parasites. He is also micro chipped.

      Location: Lake Ann, MI
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). A note from Kane's foster mom........Are you looking for a very special dog to add to your home? Kane just might be right for you. Kane has been with us since January 2016 and his foster mom says this boy really has a zest for life that just touches your heart. This boy has been through so much but continues to love every minute of his life. Grab a toy and he is ready to play. Get his leash and he will walk anywhere with you. (Needs a little work in this area as he pulls a bit from excitement) Want to cuddle on the couch ? yep you got it ! He is all for it. He does wear diapers when he is not in his crate or outside but he doesn't mind at all. He stands and lets me put them on! You see Kane is eager to please. So if you have a special spot in your heart for a dog that has had a rough start you might want to consider meeting Kane. Kane LOVES playing with other dogs and is great with kids, even small kids. He is a very easy going boy. He is charming, sweet, funny and always happy-go-lucky. He is neutered, current on all vaccines, heart worm negative, free of internal parasites and is micro chipped. His adoption fee has been sponsored as we are just looking for that really special home that will give this boy so much love and understand his medical needs. Now, a brief description of what is going on with Kane's medical..... He had bladder stones removed in 2015 and was leaking urine, even after having the bladder stones removed. Due to the leakage, Kane's prior owners made him an outside dog. Soon after, he was surrendered to a shelter who contacted GLBR. After numerous tests, seeing the specialists at MSU and surgery, among several other doctors, the doctors have come to the conclusion that Kane's urinary leakage cannot be fixed. Fortunately he is very happy and comfortable wearing doggie diapers! Kane is also prone to urinary tract infections which will need to be carefully managed. Yes, he has some medical issues, but the bottom line is this boy is WORTH the extra effort and any family who adds Kane into their home will be SO lucky!! He has handled all of his doctor visits with a smile and everyone raves about how wonderful he is. Kane is with a foster home who loves him very much, but he can't stay there forever. Kane deserves to find himself a permanent loving home, so let's share his story to help him get there

      Breed: Boxador
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: Lake Ann, MI
Posted Breed: Boxer / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Her Royal Highness, Charley Ann, is in search of a new kingdom to call home. She enjoys being pampered, adored, fawned over and waited on hand and foot. She requires a home with soft beds, ample hands for petting and scratching, as well as servants who are ready to tend to her every whim. Toys are a must - all varieties will be accepted, although she is most entertained by balls, food dispensing toys and un-stuffing squeaky toys. In order to best enjoy her new home, HRH Charley requests to be the only pet and to live with older, respectful children. She will provide her loyal subjects with plenty of love, companionship, laughs, tail wags...and the occasional snore-fest. A lady never reveals her true age or weight, but we will let you in on her secrets...She is about 8-9 yrs young and around 50# Cherish was sitting in a shelter for a couple of months and was not handling it too well. So we brought her into our rescue. Cherish is a HAPPY, HAPPY girl and is very appreciative and happy with anything she gets. She listens very well and is very responsive to correction. She would do best as either the only dog or possible with an older dog, like herself, that are more laid back. She doesn't care for the bouncy, active dogs and will ignore them for the most part, unless they get into her space or antagonize her. She would probably do best with older kids too. Her foster mom says she can be a sassy girl and thinks she is a princess at times. She does listen well but there are times she may become stubborn and you have to remind her that she is not in charge. Cherish does have some arthritis in her spine and hips and will need to be on a joint supplement for the rest of her life. She may also need some pain meds now and then, depending on how she is feeling. But other than that, she is a very healthy girl and all of her blood work looks great. Cherish is spayed, current on vaccines, heart worm negative and free of internal parasites. She is also micro chipped. Her adoption fee is $50
