Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Stewie is an awesome boy. He was born January 2012. He is very friendly, has moderate energy, LOVES to go for car rides, enjoys chewing his bones, playing with his balls and loves the good ole butt and back scratches. Stewie can be a "rough" lover at times. He doesn't mean to get overly excited with some loving, but he just gets very happy with his pettings. He knows all basic commands and is great with obedience, he is so very smart !!!!! Stewie also knows how to kiss on command ! Stewie needs to be the only pet (no cats, no dogs) in the household. This is not to say he is dog aggressive, he simply is too rough for the majority of dogs and can get possessive of food and toys. If there are any kids in the house, they should be old enough to participate in dog care and able to follow directions. Stewie even has his one Face Book fan page : stewie adopt me. Go check out some more great pictures of this guy !!! Adoption fee for Stewie is $75.00

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Sasha

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Bullboxer Pit
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Sasha is a very active and attention driven dog. She gets along with other dogs and will require an individual that is physically active and can spent time with her by either taking her for walks or playing fetch in the back yard with her. Although Sasha may look on the smaller side, she is extremely muscular and strong. She can also be vocal if she chooses but NOT in an aggressive way. Sasha will require a fenced in yard, preferably a taller fence as she knows how to climb chain link fences. Although if you are in the back yard with her, its unlikely she will attempt to escape. Sasha has been through a intense, four week training course for obedience. This has really helped her become more well-rounded. She listens well but will need consistency from her new owner. She truly is a very smart girl. Sasha would do best with another dog in the house, one to keep her occupied and to play with her. This girl has a very comical personality and is quite goofy. She will sometimes try to get her way by rolling over on her back and looking innocent and all cute, and so she can get her belly rubbed. This girl loves to play with toys and would do best with hard toys as it is very easy for her to destruct her toys. Sasha is simply looking for somebody to give her the love and attention she desires and needs. She has been spayed and is current on all vaccines, heart worm negative and free of any parasites. She is also micro chipped. Sasha is house broken, crate trained and loves to ride around in the car if you are willing to take the girl. Her adoption fee is $150

      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Millie May found herself at the shelter. Her prior owner was not able to continue her care. So with an available foster home, we brought this, sweet, kind, gently, AMAZING girl into our rescue. Millie May is just PRECIOUS. She is about 7 years old, good with dogs, kids and all people. She LOVES to be petted and praised. She listens very well and is going to make any family, very fortunate to have her. She has been spayed, current on her vaccines, treated for worms and is microchipped. She has had one small lump removed from the inside of her thigh, that the vet felt was suspicious. She has three other smaller lumps as well, but the vet felt these were fatty tumors and nothing to be alarmed about. Millie is housebroken, crate trained and walks wonderful on a leash. Her adoption fee is $200

      Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Gladys is a big GOOF !!!! She is not much more than a year old, still quite puppy really. Very sweet natured and loves to play with other dogs and toys. Boy, does she LOVE TOYS. She will try to take all the toys and put them in a corner for her to enjoy. YUP. she loves her toys. She is even good with cats !!!! She would be best with older kids due to her energy and happiness, we would not want her to knock over the little ones as she still has a tendency to want to jump on people sometimes. Gladys will need an owner who is willing to take her to some kind of obediance class, when she is adopted. She is only 50lbs, but can be a strong willed girl with a dash of stubbornness at times. She is VERY responsive to correction however, and really wants to please. She listens well. She just needs an owner that is willing to show her what is expected of her, in her new home. Gladys is spayed, current on vaccines, heartworm negative and free of all internal/external parasites. She is also microchipped. Her adoption fee is $200

      Breed: Bluetick Coonhound
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Bluetick Coonhound (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Beautiful Avery is a 2-3 year old, 60lb bluetick Coonhound. She was found as a stray up north, half starved, in heat and full of parasites. After her hold time was up at the shelter, she was pulled into foster care. Now, she is spayed, up to date on vaccines, micro chipped, treated for the internal and external parasites and is heartworm negative. Avery is a very shy girl, but very sweet, She loves to play with stuffed toys and hang out in the yard. She's good with other dogs, after proper introductions of course, and some cats. (she does best with cats that are used to dogs and don't run from them, although she has never been left alone with them at all). Because she is shy, we are looking for a home with older, respectful children. Avery rides very well in the car and is crate trained. She is also housetrained and listens very well to what you are asking of her. She is a smart girl and wants to please. Her adoption fee is only $150 Please note, for anybody who may be interested in Avery, we need to mention that she is being fostered in the Dundee MI area and due to her foster mom's work schedule, we are requesting that the applicant needs to be within 2 hours driving distance from Dundee MI.

      Maeve

      rescue
      Breed: Lab-Pointer
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pointer / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Maeve (pronounced May-vee) aka Sassy Pants is a super sweet girl that was found as a stray by Monroe Animal Control. She was at the shelter for several months, terrified, before being taken into rescue. We estimate her to be about 5-6 yrs old and 65#. Our best guess at her breed is lab/pointer. We suspect Maeve was an outdoor dog previously - she didn't seem to know about stairs, phones, toasters, car rides, etc. She was also much more comfortable outdoors than indoors for a while. We are working on getting her more used to household living and she's doing great! She is crate trained, which is used whenever she can't be directly supervised. Maeve is reserved with strangers, but loves treats and will become your BFF once you feed her a few times. She likes to play with toys (especially squeaky toys!) and chew bones. Her favorite time of the day is meal time - she actually tap dances for her meals she gets so excited! Maeve was heartworm positive when we got her but she has been treated and is doing great! She's expected to live a normal, full life (on monthly heartworm prevention, of course!) Maeve can be a bit dog selective - a laid back male would probably be the best fit for her. (Don't worry, we will do introductions before finalizing anything!) We do not recommend a home with cats. Maeve has not been around young children to our knowledge, and due to her quiet personality we are recommending a home with older (12 yrs +) children. Her adoption fee is $150 which helps to covers her spay, vaccines, heartworm testing, deworming, etc. Please note, for anybody who may be interested in Avery, we need to mention that she is being fostered in the Dundee MI area and due to her foster mom's work schedule, we are requesting that the applicant needs to be within 2 hours driving distance from Dundee MI.

      Breed: Bullboxer Pit
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Trudy, Trudy, Trudy. this girl is still quite all puppy. Silly, goofy and loves to play. She loves her basket of toys and can easily entertain herself. Toys are a must for her, not only becuz she loves them, but if she starts to get bored, she may start to look for things to nibble on. But remember, she is still a puppy and will need direction to let her know what things are acceptable, and what are not. She loves playing in her backyard too. If she sees a squirrel or any birdies, she likes to go and chase after them, thinking its a game. Trudy is about 8-9 months old. A very pretty, petite girl who is very friendly and happy with people. She likes playing with other dogs and would do best with male dogs in particular. She would also probably do best with kids that are a bit older so she does not accidentally knock them down. Trudy is crate trained, housebroken, spayed and current on all vaccines. She has been treated for worms and is micro chipped. We will highly recommend that whoever adopts her, should take Trudy to a basic obedience class to help continue her training and let her know what is expected of her. This will also help the bond between her and her new owner.

      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: 100.00. Daisy is a 9.5 year old sweetheart who loves to kiss and snuggle. She is a absolute SWEETHEART. Don't be fooled by her age though. This silver muzzle beauty has a lot of spunk in her step and enjoys romping around the yard, playing tug-o-war or taking a nice walk. She is also just as content to take a snooze at your feet or in your lap. she is the sweetest, most gentle dog. She just wants to be by her humans. In fact, she loves people of all ages, even the little people. She gets along great with young kids. Daisy would do best as the only dog in the home or with a submissive male. She does not like cats either. She is crate trained, housebroken, and just an all around great girl. When Daisy went to the vets to have dental done, the vet noticed she had a irregular heart rhythm along with a pulse deficits. It was recommended that she has an echocardiogram done as well as a holter monitor, which is a "coat" worn by a dog for 48 hours and it monitors their heartbeat and activity for the whole 48 hours. There was nothing real alarming that came back, but the vet did recommend that whoever adopts Daisy, should just continue to have a vet monitor her every 8-12 months as a follow up. Daisy does NOT need to be on any medications and is perfectly fine allowing her to continue playing and running around. Daisy is spayed, current on all vaccines, heartworm negative and free of internal parasites. She is also microchipped. Her adoption fee is $100

This boy did not deserved to be put down and we wanted to give him a second chance. We knew that he was said to have knee issues but did not realize that he needed BOTH ACL's replaced. So surgery is what he was given. He is still needing about two more months to heal up before he will be available for adoption. We will update more as we get to know him.

      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: 300.00. Callie is a sweet girl. We pulled her from a shelter after she was just returned from a lady who said Callie would not get along with her child's rabbit. Upon coming in, we discovered she was not able to lift her tail and upon further evaluation by the vet, the vet said she must have had a prior injury, as it was painful to her if somebody tried to touch it. So the only option to rid her of this constant pain, was to dock it. She is a much happier girl now !!! Callie gets along with other dogs and even young kids. SHE LOVES KIDS. We are unsure of cats at this time. She does enjoy playing tug o war with her rope toys and giving kisses. Her foster parents call her cute little underbite, her "yum yum tray". She is crate trained, housebroken, good with her basic obedience and likes to go for car rides. Anywhere you want to go, she will gladly join you. And don't forget to take her for a walk now and then so she can smell all the new smells that can excite her. A cute thing about Callie, is every time she goes outside, she likes to take one of her babies with her and carry it around. She really has a sweet, wonderful personality that would make any home happy. Callie will need to be adopted by somebody who has some form of fencing for her. She has a high prey drive for any of the little critters i.e. Squirrels, rabbits and we feel she would need a fenced in area to keep her from getting lose if she saw one of these little critters Callie is spayed, current on all vaccines, heartworm negative and is micro chipped. Her adoption fee is $300

      Kane

      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: sponsored. A note from Kane's foster mom........Are you looking for a very special dog to add to your home? Kane just might be right for you. Kane has been with us since January 2016 and his foster mom says this boy really has a zest for life that just touches your heart. This boy has been through so much but continues to love every minute of his life. Grab a toy and he is ready to play. Get his leash and he will walk anywhere with you. (Needs a little work in this area as he pulls a bit from excitement) Want to cuddle on the couch ? yep you got it ! He is all for it. He does wear diapers when he is not in his crate or outside but he doesn't mind at all. He stands and lets me put them on! You see Kane is eager to please. So if you have a special spot in your heart for a dog that has had a rough start you might want to consider meeting Kane. Kane LOVES playing with other dogs and is great with kids, even small kids. He is a very easy going boy. He is charming, sweet, funny and always happy-go-lucky. He is neutered, current on all vaccines, heart worm negative, free of internal parasites and is micro chipped. His adoption fee has been sponsored as we are just looking for that really special home that will give this boy so much love and understand his medical needs. Now, a brief description of what is going on with Kane's medical..... He had bladder stones removed in 2015 and was leaking urine, even after having the bladder stones removed. Due to the leakage, Kane's prior owners made him an outside dog. Soon after, he was surrendered to a shelter who contacted GLBR. After numerous tests, seeing the specialists at MSU and surgery, among several other doctors, the doctors have come to the conclusion that Kane's urinary leakage cannot be fixed. Fortunately he is very happy and comfortable wearing doggie diapers! Kane is also prone to urinary tract infections which will need to be carefully managed. Yes, he has some medical issues, but the bottom line is this boy is WORTH the extra effort and any family who adds Kane into their home will be SO lucky!! He has handled all of his doctor visits with a smile and everyone raves about how wonderful he is. Kane is with a foster home who loves him very much, but he can't stay there forever. Kane deserves to find himself a permanent loving home, so let's share his story to help him get there
