Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Stewie is an awesome boy. He was born January 2012. He is very friendly, has moderate energy, LOVES to go for car rides, enjoys chewing his bones, playing with his balls and loves the good ole butt and back scratches. Stewie can be a "rough" lover at times. He doesn't mean to get overly excited with some loving, but he just gets very happy with his pettings. He knows all basic commands and is great with obedience, he is so very smart !!!!! Stewie also knows how to kiss on command ! Stewie needs to be the only pet (no cats, no dogs) in the household. This is not to say he is dog aggressive, he simply is too rough for the majority of dogs and can get possessive of food and toys. If there are any kids in the house, they should be old enough to participate in dog care and able to follow directions. Stewie even has his one Face Book fan page : stewie adopt me. Go check out some more great pictures of this guy !!! Adoption fee for Stewie is $75.00

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Callie - ADO...

      rescue
      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: 300.00. Callie is a sweet girl. We pulled her from a shelter after she was just returned from a lady who said Callie would not get along with her child's rabbit. Upon coming in, we discovered she was not able to lift her tail and upon further evaluation by the vet, the vet said she must have had a prior injury, as it was painful to her if somebody tried to touch it. So the only option to rid her of this constant pain, was to dock it. She is a much happier girl now !!! Callie gets along with other dogs and even young kids. We are unsure of cats at this time. She does enjoy playing tug o war with her rope toys and giving kisses. Her foster parents call her cute little underbite, her "yum yum tray". She is crate trained, housebroken, good with her basic obedience and likes to go for car rides. Anywhere you want to go, she will gladly join you. And don't forget to take her for a walk now and then so she can smell all the new smells that can excite her. Callie is spayed, current on all vaccines, heartworm negative and is micro chipped. Her adoption fee is $350

      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Want to make friends with Vito? Bring a squeeky ball and be ready for a game of keep away.. bring running shoes. Treats are good too, but they work best during the "Interview" Yes, you will be interviewed by Vito...he insists on it, and who am I to deny him, he has to live with you forever....so yeah, he gets a voice. He is not afraid to ask for what he wants, he will tell you with his entire body, hey, when the nubber is wagging that hard, it moves the whole body. His favorite words are "Good Boy" When his person says them he is the happiest dog in the world. If he brings you the ball (bringing is not giving) and you tell him Good Boy... he will walk away, see first paragraph. If he decides that he kinda likes you and he wants a touch, he will use his mouth. Its his way of testing you, he does not bite but he will try to bluff you...all part of his interview. Vito understands that his foster moms part in his story is temporary, he also wants to find his people, and when he does find them I will be his biggest cheerleader even as my heart breaks at the thought of him leaving. His Foster mom has been in rescue most of her adult life and she has only had 3 dogs that she had a hard time letting go...Vito is the third. She loves this dog but she knows that his future is not with her so please give this boy his new home with you. Vito would do best as the only dog. Would do best with kids over 12 years old too. He is not too fond of kitties, so sorry, no cats. He is housebroken, crate trained, very sweet, LOVES to play with his toys, loves to go for walks, is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, free of internal parasites and is micro chipped. His adoption fee is $250.

      Minnie - ON ...

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. When Minnie first came into our group, she had some anxiety issues. Her prior owners had put her on Prozac, at a rather large dose. She is somewhat of a nervous girl and can be a bit insecure and a bit timid and shy with new things. And due to those reasons, we are slowly reducing the anti anxiety meds her. She is doing great with the reduction of her meds, but this will take some time before she is ready to be adopted. Could be another month or so. She really is a very, very sweet girl and is smart. No aggression at all. When Minnie is playful, she stands up and gives her foster mom a hug and also loves to put her head under their arms. She enjoys having the company of her foster parents and does good with their other dogs. She enjoys having these dogs to hang out with, play with them or just lay next to them. She even doesn't mind cats. We also recommend that she be adopted out to a home with either older kids (or no kids) and a home where it will be a calmer atmosphere for her. We feel the activity level of being around small kids, is just too overwhelming for her. We also would like to see her go to a home with another dog as well, so she has that companion of a canine. She will need a home where they have patience with her and are able to show her a lot of love. Minnie absolutely loves when her foster mom gets in her face and speak calmly to her and tell her how much she is loved. She will need that in a few family Minnie is about 6.5 years old and is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and free of internal parasites. She is also micro chipped. Her adoption fee is $200

      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: 100.00. Where do we start with describing what Yogi has been through - - first he was found abandoned in a bathroom for a minimum of 5 days in a rental home. He was infested with fleas, he had a HUGE hole in his rear thigh that we have no idea what could have happened there. He was anemic, had uveites (inflammation of the eyes), a chronic UTI, was loaded with whip worms and hook worms, he had broken teeth, that required MAJOR work to remove the 4 canines that were infected and impacted, has artheritis, his white blood count was up and had to be put on antibiotics for several weeks, than his red blood count was not normal. His liver levels were still elevated and he had to had two reconstructive surgeries on the hole in his thigh. Through all of this, Yogi remains friendly, his tail wags and he has a good appetite. Yogi will be with us for some time. We need to be sure he heals up properly and we treat any other underlying medical conditions as well. We will update as he heals and is getting closer to being available for adoption. He is neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm negative (THANKFULLY), been treated for internal and external parasites and is microchipped. His adoption fee is $100

      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Setter / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Bindi is such a precious girl !!! She is about 2 years old and probably mixed with some sort of herding breed mix. We don't know her history, but she was most likely on her own most of her life. She started out very shy and unsure of everything, but is quickly learning that the spoiled house dog life is far better than being on the run. Every day she is showing her foster parents more of her loving and goofy personality. She is gaining confidence every day and LOVES to discover all the dog toys and how to play with them. She LOVES to cuddle and once she warms up to you, she is a total love bug. She absolutely LOVES other dogs and we would like to see her go to a home with another dog as well as she is the most confident when she has another dog around to show her she doesn't need to be scared. Bindi is good with kids and we believe she would be good with cats too. A cat hissed at her through a gate, and she did not react at all. She is crate trained, house broken, and does pretty good with her basic obedience. She is great riding in the car and is doing better walking on the leash. She just needs somebody to show her the ropes and she is very eager and quick to learn. Bindi is simply a good girl, that is very goofy at times. She is spayed, current on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and been treated for parasites. She is also micro chipped. Her adoption fee is $200

      Breed: Bullboxer Pit
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. This boy was in a shelter for several weeks and when we first got him, he was scared of everything and would coward a lot. He was even terrified sometimes of being touched. We are thinking he may have been abused prior due to his fear. But his foster mom has been working with him, letting him know he will receive gentle and kind hands that pet him, and he has slowly been getting better. He was also very emaciated when he arrived at the shelter but between the shelter and his foster mom feeding him good food, he is looking so much more better. Gus does great with other dogs but not too sure of cats. He does love to run around his foster moms back yard and play with anybody who will play with him. We think Gus would do better with older kids or at least kids that might be more on the calmer side, at least until he gets to know them. Gus does have a great personality and really wants to please. He is housebroken, crate trained and likes to be goofy or just crawl into your lap with you and say HI. Nice gently rubbins is what he likes the most. Gus is neutered, current on all vaccines, heart worm negative and has been treated for worms. He is also microchipped. His adoption fee is $150

Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Angel is a real doll face. She came to us as an owner surrender, along with the families two other boxers - Hoss and Roxie. We realized that it would be close to impossible to adopt all three out together, so we decided to keep Hoss and Roxie together, as they are littermates. Angel is 8 years old. She is a happy, snugly lady and a perfect house guest. Her foster mom has nothing bad to say about her. She is happy to meet everyone and everything - except kitties. They look to interesting and will chase them. She is great with other dogs and kids alike. She loves playing in the backyard and when her foster mom takes the water hose to water her garden, Angel like to play with the water and get squirted. She is a silly, goofy girl. She loves to be petted and will clean your face with kisses, if you allow her. She is a real gem. She is spayed, crated trained, housebroken, current on all vaccines, heart worm negative and free of internal parasites. She is also micro chipped. Her adoption fee is $200

      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: sponsored. A note from Kane's foster mom........Are you looking for a very special dog to add to your home? Kane just might be right for you. Kane has been with us since January 2016 and his foster mom says this boy really has a zest for life that just touches your heart. This boy has been through so much but continues to love every minute of his life. Grab a toy and he is ready to play. Get his leash and he will walk anywhere with you. (Needs a little work in this area as he pulls a bit from excitement) Want to cuddle on the couch ? yep you got it ! He is all for it. He does wear diapers when he is not in his crate or outside but he doesn't mind at all. He stands and lets me put them on! You see Kane is eager to please. So if you have a special spot in your heart for a dog that has had a rough start you might want to consider meeting Kane. Kane LOVES playing with other dogs and is great with kids, even small kids. He is a very easy going boy. He is charming, sweet, funny and always happy-go-lucky. He is neutered, current on all vaccines, heart worm negative, free of internal parasites and is micro chipped. His adoption fee has been sponsored as we are just looking for that really special home that will give this boy so much love and understand his medical needs. Now, a brief description of what is going on with Kane's medical..... He had bladder stones removed in 2015 and was leaking urine, even after having the bladder stones removed. Due to the leakage, Kane's prior owners made him an outside dog. Soon after, he was surrendered to a shelter who contacted GLBR. After numerous tests, seeing the specialists at MSU and surgery, among several other doctors, the doctors have come to the conclusion that Kane's urinary leakage cannot be fixed. Fortunately he is very happy and comfortable wearing doggie diapers! Kane is also prone to urinary tract infections which will need to be carefully managed. Yes, he has some medical issues, but the bottom line is this boy is WORTH the extra effort and any family who adds Kane into their home will be SO lucky!! He has handled all of his doctor visits with a smile and everyone raves about how wonderful he is. Kane is with a foster home who loves him very much, but he can't stay there forever. Kane deserves to find himself a permanent loving home, so let's share his story to help him get there

      Breed: Boxador
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 50.00. Her Royal Highness, Charley Ann, is in search of a new kingdom to call home. She enjoys being pampered, adored, fawned over and waited on hand and foot. She requires a home with soft beds, ample hands for petting and scratching, as well as servants who are ready to tend to her every whim. Toys are a must - all varieties will be accepted, although she is most entertained by balls, food dispensing toys and un-stuffing squeaky toys. In order to best enjoy her new home, HRH Charley requests to be the only pet and to live with older, respectful children. She will provide her loyal subjects with plenty of love, companionship, laughs, tail wags...and the occasional snore-fest. A lady never reveals her true age or weight, but we will let you in on her secrets...She is about 8-9 yrs young and around 50# Cherish was sitting in a shelter for a couple of months and was not handling it too well. So we brought her into our rescue. Cherish is a HAPPY, HAPPY girl and is very appreciative and happy with anything she gets. She listens very well and is very responsive to correction. She would do best as either the only dog or possible with an older dog, like herself, that are more laid back. She doesn't care for the bouncy, active dogs and will ignore them for the most part, unless they get into her space or antagonize her. She would probably do best with older kids too. Her foster mom says she can be a sassy girl and thinks she is a princess at times. She does listen well but there are times she may become stubborn and you have to remind her that she is not in charge. Cherish does have some arthritis in her spine and hips and will need to be on a joint supplement for the rest of her life. She may also need some pain meds now and then, depending on how she is feeling. But other than that, she is a very healthy girl and all of her blood work looks great. Cherish is spayed, current on vaccines, heart worm negative and free of internal parasites. She is also micro chipped. Her adoption fee is $50
