Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Stewie is an awesome boy. He was born January 2012. He is very friendly, has moderate energy, LOVES to go for car rides, enjoys chewing his bones, playing with his balls and loves the good ole butt and back scratches. Stewie can be a "rough" lover at times. He doesn't mean to get overly excited with some loving, but he just gets very happy with his pettings. He knows all basic commands and is great with obedience, he is so very smart !!!!! Stewie also knows how to kiss on command ! Stewie needs to be the only pet (no cats, no dogs) in the household. This is not to say he is dog aggressive, he simply is too rough for the majority of dogs and can get possessive of food and toys. If there are any kids in the house, they should be old enough to participate in dog care and able to follow directions. Stewie even has his one Face Book fan page : stewie adopt me. Go check out some more great pictures of this guy !!! Adoption fee for Stewie is $75.00

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Gus

      rescue
      Breed: Bullboxer Pit
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. This boy was in a shelter for several weeks and when we first got him, he was scared of everything and would coward a lot. He was even terrified sometimes of being touched. We are thinking he may have been abused prior due to his fear. But his foster mom has been working with him, letting him know he will receive gentle and kind hands that pet him, and he has slowly been getting better. He was also very emaciated when he arrived at the shelter but between the shelter and his foster mom feeding him good food, he is looking so much more better. Gus does great with other dogs but not too sure of cats. He does love to run around his foster moms back yard and play with anybody who will play with him. We think Gus would do better with older kids or at least kids that might be more on the calmer side, at least until he gets to know them. Gus does have a great personality and really wants to please. He is housebroken, crate trained and likes to be goofy or just crawl into your lap with you and say HI. Nice gently rubbins is what he likes the most. Gus is neutered, current on all vaccines, heart worm negative and has been treated for worms. He is also microchipped. His adoption fee is $150

      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Roslyn was an owner surrender to the shelter in Ingham County in March and was then transferred to the shelter in Charlevoix MI in April. She is a very sweet, very stellar girl. Very people oriented and well trained. She is great with other dogs and believes to be good with cats. When Roslyn first came to us, she started to have grand mal seizures - 5 in a 24 hour period. At first it was thought she was having a reaction to her pain meds after she had 3 mass cell tumors removed, but now the vet is thinking she might of had a bad reaction to her flea/tick preventive. After getting her seizures under control and monitoring her, she has been doing good since. Her teeth were very bad and has had a good teeth cleaning and several teeth were removed as well. We will update her as we get to know her a bit more. She is spayed, current on all vaccines, heartworm negative, been treated for parasites and is microchipped. Her adoption fee is $200

      Cheyanne

      rescue
      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: 400.00. Cheyanne came to us as an owner surrender. They simply did not have time for her. She had a litter of pups just 6 weeks before being surrendered to us and sold all of her puppies on their own. We started to treat her for a raging urinary tract infection and whipworms. But Cheyanne is on a second round of antibiotics and her UTI if finally starting to clear up. She will also need to continue to gain some more weight as a few more pounds will greatly benefit her. Cheyanne is a sweet girl. She gets along with other dogs, kids and even cats (but if the cat runs, she will chase after it). So we suggest she only goes to a home with cats, if the cats are used to dogs and will not run from them. She does crate very well and listens very well. She will need some continued work on leash walking as she does pull on it at times. But once she is correctly, she usually will stop pulling. She loves to play and have a yard of sorts to run around in. She has been spayed, was brought up to date on all vaccines, is heartworm negative and like it was mentioned, she has been treated for whipworms. She is also micro chipped. Her adoption fee is $400

      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: 400.00. Jd was found as a stray and was never reclaimed. After being examined by our vet, we suspect he is between 1.5 - 2 years old. The vet found him to have a grade 2/3 heart murmur and we will be sending him to have an echo cardiogram done first to determine the full aspect of his heart murmur before we list him as available. His foster mom says he is one happy, wiggly boy. He may not be the brightest crayon in the box but he has huge personality and is one big goof. He is very happy, loves to be petted and played with. Loves to play with his toys and is good with dogs, kids and cats. He is housebroken, crate trained and like most other dogs, loves to go bye-bye. He is neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm negative and free of internal parasites. He is also micro chipped. His adoption fee is $400

      Jax

      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: 400.00. Jax used to live outside on a chain since he was a youngster. We are very thankful a family member reached out to us to bring this boy in so he could have another chance at a home. Jax is a very special, very sweet boy. Since being in his foster home, he has really been blossoming and they are beautiful colors. He is a wonderful, loving, patient and kind soul. Jax's foster family has taught him what warmth, love and affection all means. He is good with young kids and bigger dogs, but no cats or small dogs. He sees them too much as prey drive to chase. He loves to play with other dogs and he loves having the company of kids. He is a sweet, special boy. He really enjoys just hanging out with people and living in a home where he receives any kind of attention. His foster mom says he is a big love bug and a gentle, well behaved soul. Jax knows how to sit and to shake paw. He listens very well and is eager to please. And he has learned how much fun it is to play with toys too ! The lucky family who gets to adopt this wonderful boy is going to be so happy with him. He would benefit from somebody who is willing to continue his manner training as well. Life is good for Jax. We did neuter Jax and removed a "hair filled" lump on the top of this head. It was just one of those strange cysts that develop, but no medical worries. He was treated for 3 different kinds of worms and also giardia. He was loaded with worms. But thankfully he tested negative for heartworms. Jax is housebroken, crate trained, walks great on a leash, loves going for rides (he had only been in a car twice since he was born) and know basic obedience. His adoption fee is $400

      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Marla was pulled from a shelter in Ohio. She had spent about two months there when the shelter contacted us to see if we had room for her. She came from a home where there was multiple dogs and they were not being taken care of, so animal control got involved. She is a very sweet, kind soul that we believe may have been overbred. She is happy, with an outgoing personality. She loves people and would do fine with kids, but no cats for Marla. She is selective with which dogs she will get along with, so you have a dog, we would just have to do a meet and greet to see if she gets along with them. She is on the larger size of 71lbs and her foster mom is working on getting a few pounds off of her. Marla is a gorgeous girl who is fawn colored with a large white bib on her chest, a docked tail and natural ears. She loves going for walks or outside to play for some fun-and-games. She has been spayed, current on all vaccines, heart worm negative and has been treated for worms. She is microchipped. Her adoption fee is $150

Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Angel is a real doll face. She came to us as an owner surrender, along with the families two other boxers - Hoss and Roxie. We realized that it would be close to impossible to adopt all three out together, so we decided to keep Hoss and Roxie together, as they are littermates. Angel is 8 years old. She is a happy, snugly lady and a perfect house guest. Her foster mom has nothing bad to say about her. She is happy to meet everyone and everything - except kitties. They look to interesting and will chase them. She is great with other dogs and kids alike. She loves playing in the backyard and when her foster mom takes the water hose to water her garden, Angel like to play with the water and get squirted. She is a silly, goofy girl. She loves to be petted and will clean your face with kisses, if you allow her. She is a real gem. She is spayed, crated trained, housebroken, current on all vaccines, heart worm negative and free of internal parasites. She is also micro chipped. Her adoption fee is $200

      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Adoption Fee: sponsored. A note from Kane's foster mom........Are you looking for a very special dog to add to your home? Kane just might be right for you. Kane has been with us since January 2016 and his foster mom says this boy really has a zest for life that just touches your heart. This boy has been through so much but continues to love every minute of his life. Grab a toy and he is ready to play. Get his leash and he will walk anywhere with you. (Needs a little work in this area as he pulls a bit from excitement) Want to cuddle on the couch ? yep you got it ! He is all for it. He does wear diapers when he is not in his crate or outside but he doesn't mind at all. He stands and lets me put them on! You see Kane is eager to please. So if you have a special spot in your heart for a dog that has had a rough start you might want to consider meeting Kane. Kane LOVES playing with other dogs and is great with kids, even small kids. He is a very easy going boy. He is charming, sweet, funny and always happy-go-lucky. He is neutered, current on all vaccines, heart worm negative, free of internal parasites and is micro chipped. His adoption fee has been sponsored as we are just looking for that really special home that will give this boy so much love and understand his medical needs. Now, a brief description of what is going on with Kane's medical..... He had bladder stones removed in 2015 and was leaking urine, even after having the bladder stones removed. Due to the leakage, Kane's prior owners made him an outside dog. Soon after, he was surrendered to a shelter who contacted GLBR. After numerous tests, seeing the specialists at MSU and surgery, among several other doctors, the doctors have come to the conclusion that Kane's urinary leakage cannot be fixed. Fortunately he is very happy and comfortable wearing doggie diapers! Kane is also prone to urinary tract infections which will need to be carefully managed. Yes, he has some medical issues, but the bottom line is this boy is WORTH the extra effort and any family who adds Kane into their home will be SO lucky!! He has handled all of his doctor visits with a smile and everyone raves about how wonderful he is. Kane is with a foster home who loves him very much, but he can't stay there forever. Kane deserves to find himself a permanent loving home, so let's share his story to help him get there

      Breed: Boxador
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 50.00. Her Royal Highness, Charley Ann, is in search of a new kingdom to call home. She enjoys being pampered, adored, fawned over and waited on hand and foot. She requires a home with soft beds, ample hands for petting and scratching, as well as servants who are ready to tend to her every whim. Toys are a must - all varieties will be accepted, although she is most entertained by balls, food dispensing toys and un-stuffing squeaky toys. In order to best enjoy her new home, HRH Charley requests to be the only pet and to live with older, respectful children. She will provide her loyal subjects with plenty of love, companionship, laughs, tail wags...and the occasional snore-fest. A lady never reveals her true age or weight, but we will let you in on her secrets...She is about 8-9 yrs young and around 50# Cherish was sitting in a shelter for a couple of months and was not handling it too well. So we brought her into our rescue. Cherish is a HAPPY, HAPPY girl and is very appreciative and happy with anything she gets. She listens very well and is very responsive to correction. She would do best as either the only dog or possible with an older dog, like herself, that are more laid back. She doesn't care for the bouncy, active dogs and will ignore them for the most part, unless they get into her space or antagonize her. She would probably do best with older kids too. Her foster mom says she can be a sassy girl and thinks she is a princess at times. She does listen well but there are times she may become stubborn and you have to remind her that she is not in charge. Cherish does have some arthritis in her spine and hips and will need to be on a joint supplement for the rest of her life. She may also need some pain meds now and then, depending on how she is feeling. But other than that, she is a very healthy girl and all of her blood work looks great. Cherish is spayed, current on vaccines, heart worm negative and free of internal parasites. She is also micro chipped. Her adoption fee is $50
