Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Ziggy is a deaf eight-year-old male American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull) mix, with a one-track mind - FOOD. So Ziggy needs a home with food - and one where he doesn't have to worry about other dogs or cats or kids stealing his food. A single adult or couple with no children and no other pets would be ideal. Ziggy loves to do tricks, and will gladly work hard to impress your friends and family! He knows many tricks such as spin, jump, bark on command, and even how to pray. He is good with kids in supervised situations and fine with other dogs also when supervised, but should not live with other dogs full-time. Ziggy has some allergies and takes Benadryl and eats a specfic brand of food (Limited Ingredient Duck/Potato) which is sold at PetSmart and many other stores. He also has arthritis and is on a glucosamine supplement. All pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and on a flea/tick preventative. Cats are tested for FIV/FeLV and dogs are tested for heartworms. Adoption fee is $110 for cats and $150 for dogs. To meet this pet, please fill out a dog application or cat application. Not able to adopt? Inquire about fostering or sponsoring this pet. For more information visit www.allpawsrescue.info.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Baxter is a five-year-old Shepherd mix who weighs approximately 60 pounds. He had a rough start to life, and was turned in to a shelter when he was only six months old. He was adopted out but returned again when he was four years old. He started out as a friendly, happy dog, but over time has learned to fear people. He is distrustful of new people - especially men - and is very nervous around them. While in foster care he is starting to regain some confidence, and with the right home he will continue to learn to trust people. He is house-trained and crate trained, and is very well behaved. Baxter is good with other dogs, and gets along well with cats too. He is very affectionate with people he knows, but will bark and growl if approached by strangers. Because of his fear, he will not be able to go to adoption events, so if you're interested in meeting him with the possibility of giving him a home, please fill out an adoption application. Luna

      rescue
      Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier (short coat). Meet Luna, a one year old Staffordshire Terrier weighing about 50 lbs. She was found in a parking lot and after many different attempts to locate the owner, they never came forward. The vet thinks she may have been used as a breeding dog as she has had at least one litter of puppies. Luna is a very sweet, high energy lady who wants to please and loves everyone she meets. She gets along with other dogs but has not been tested around cats. She loves to play, especially with balls and toys and thinks kids toys are hers too. She is in a foster home with small kids and grabs their toys but you can take it out of her mouth with no hesitation from her. She does not resource guard her food or toys from people but she does seem to resource her food against other dogs so we just feed her separately. She is potty trained, house trained, and knows how to sit. She currently sleeps in bed with her human foster brother and enjoys putting her head on his pillow. She is currently in foster care with a boxer/mastiff mix, beagle/min pin mix, and poodle mix. She likes to wrestle and play chase with them but the poodle mix isn’t having it so she leaves him alone. She still has a lot of energy so should go to a home where someone is active with her (jogs, walks, etc). Because she likes to run, a fenced yard is required. Another playful dog would be a bonus. With her being high energy and strong, no kids under 10 years old (though she loves kids…. And their toys). He is kind of a couch potato, especially if it is in your lap! He is currently living with a cat and has no problems. He does not like other dogs though, he wants to sniff them but does not like it when they return the hello. Dozer needs to live in a home that does not have children around.
