Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier (short coat). Adoption Fee $350 Sookie has made quite the journey into rescue. Her life was saved by many volunteers who fell in love with her and fought for her life. I have never had a dog that I get more emails (asking for updates) from shelter workers, transporters, and other volunteers whose hearts she touched on her journey. In her current foster home she does great in or out of a crate. Her foster says she is a people pleaser and do whatever it takes to make you happy. She can be picky about her dog and cat friends. And she walks great on a leash. Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION by clicking on the ADOPT button below. Thank You! or //

More About American Staffordshire Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

You couldn't tell she is a older gal because Ruby is full of life. She is good with people and dogs, and likes to chase kitties. She enjoys affection and being in your lap - just laying there and getting belly rubs. And, she's a champion cuddler! Ruby loves to go for walks. Her foster mom is working with her on resource guarding with food. Ruby is good with other dogs but doesn't like hyperactivity. She likes her own space. For that reason, she would do best in a home with no dogs or a very calm dog. Ruby hopes to find a nice person or family to call her own very soon. Posted Breed: Pointer / Beagle / Mixed. Adoption Fee: $300 Meet Agnus! Agnus has lots of energy and loves to play. She is friendly to everyone she meets. She's been great with her foster family kids; absolutely no worries there. She loves to wrestle and play with their resident dogs too, however she does have a dominant Alpha female personality. Agnus needs an active family who will take her on daily walks/runs to help her get out her energy. She would also benefit from other outlets for her energy, such as learning frisbee or other doggie agility training that would make her use her mind and body. She's not a big barker, but does bark at squirrels, the doorbell and at other times you'd expect a dog to. Agnus will be your little shadow, as she loves to be where her people are. She is very motivated by positive reinforcement and learns quickly. She's made huge strides in the time she's been with her foster family. Crate training is still a work in progress so she would not be a good candidate for a home that has shared walls such as an apartment or a townhome. Agnus would also do best with another dog in the home for companionship. or //

Posted Breed: Shepherd / Beagle / Mixed. New foster classes are held every Saturday at our Adoption Center RSVP today by emailing: chadatmars@gmail.com Can you help PLEASE? Midwest Animal Rescue is looking for loving, caring, foster homes for rescued dogs to live while they await being adopted. All of the rescued dogs are placed in private homes. The more foster homes that we have, the more dogs we can save from high-kill shelters that are overflowing with homeless dogs. Most of the dogs we bring to Midwest Animal Rescue are very well-adjusted dogs. Some might need to be spayed/neutered, and some may need medical attention due to infections or injuries. A few of the dogs might need obedience training so they learn the basic commands. Some might need help learning to be housebroken. Your foster dog's medical needs are covered by our veterinarians. The rescue will lend you a crate if you need one, and even some dog food if you need it. Our trainers will work with your dog if it needs extra training help to help it become more adoptable. You will be supported by one of our representatives throughout the fostering time, and they will explain everything that fostering entails. Fostering a rescued dog is very rewarding. Whether the dog you are helping is the perfect companion, or if it needs extra help, every dog knows that their life has been spared, and they are grateful that they have a bed to sleep on, and good food in their dish, and clean water to drink. If you can provide a dog the love and attention it needs and deserves, please don't hesitate to send in your application today. You will be matched with the dog breed, age, gender, and the size that you prefer. Please click on the FOSTER APPLICATION found below. THANK YOU very much. or //

Posted Breed: Lhasa Apso / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee $200 Hi there! My name is Buddy. I was surrendered by my owner who could not take care of me anymore. She said I was not good with kids. I really did not enjoy being in a dog shelter. When the dog shelter people would say my name in front of my cage, I would sit up and wave my paws up and down. I was trying to tell them I was ready to be adopted! I am so happy now to be fostered by a MARS volunteer and can't wait to find a great forever home to live out my golden years and keep someone wonderful company. I am a kind and sweet guy who likes affection. I have very bad cataracts and I can barely see anything at all - but that doesn't slow me down. I am house trained but I may mark my territory initially so please watch me to prevent this. I am dreaming of being next to my forever person or people and hope you choose me! Buddy would love to be in a home with less dogs -he even would be fine as an only dog with just a person to keep company. Currently he is in a home with 5 other dogs and he does not like all the commotion. Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION by clicking on the button below. Thank You! or //

Posted Breed: Pekingese (long coat). Adoption Fee $300 Meet Charlie Chan! Charlie Chan was picked up as a stray and left unclaimed at a shelter. This little guy’s coat was extremely matted when he was brought in (these pictures were taken the same day). We could hardly get a collar over his head since he had fist-sized mats on his ears and under his chin. One of the local groomers took him and worked on him for 2 days, and he now looks like a different dog beneath all that matted hair! Even though he has lost most of his "locks", he is feeling MUCH better and knows that it will just be a matter of time before he is looking handsome again! Charlie Chan has a nice personality and walks well on a leash... although slowly! A home with no young children is recommended for Charlie Chan.
