More About American Staffordshire Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Terrier / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Online application here "An all around great dog" is how Dozer's foster mom describes him. He's just an absolute love! We believe this charmer is between 1-2 years of age. He likes human companionship and enjoys jogging, so he'd make an excellent exercise partner and don't worry, he's up for marathon cuddling too. Just looking at this handsome guy can make you smile and everyone will wonder what kind of dog he is, your guess is as good as ours on that question! We suggest a household with kids over 7 years as he is a playful boy who can sometimes be about 43lbs of clumsiness. Dozer is pretty popular with his dog friends but cats aren't big fans of Dozer because he's a "close talker". Dozer is both house and crate trained, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives so he's ready to move in, to your cat free digs! The adoption fee for this dog is $295, which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Vetting of current and past pets is very important to us, thus we will be speaking with the vet(s) listed on your application to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies), spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** To complete an online application, please click here then email Kim at KLarimer@petconnectrescue.org. Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Online application here While we all excel at something, Basco seems to have mastered the art of goofiness and facial expressions! This 3 year old, approximately 40 pound, Shepherd/Hound mix, is lovable, eager-to-please and playful; he's truly the "total package!" Basco is wonderful with other dogs and while initially timid (especially with men), once he warms up, he is a complete love bug. According to his foster mom, he is a loving snuggle bug who adores kids. He is working on his house training skills and doing very well. With his eager-to-please personality, he should have the hang of it in no time! Basco loves to romp in the yard, so a fenced yard is a must for this boy! With a strong small animal prey drive, Basco is not a good fit for a home with cats. If you're looking for an all-around great boy who is super affectionate, look no further - Basco is for you. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives and eager to find a family to love! The adoption fee for this dog is $295, which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Location: USA
Posted Breed: Border Collie / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Online application here So, we asked 5 month old Ethan what type of forever home we should look for and he said "a home with cheese and Cheerios", goofy boy will do anything for a treat. Food motivation means great training ability for this 35lb cutie, and he certainly learns well from positive training. He may be some sort of Collie/Terrier mix so that would speak to his "smarts". He also learns from his mature canine companions and just loves to follow them around picking up all of those good behaviors along the way. Do you have a fabulous dog or dogs whom Ethan could continue to learn from? He loves the company of dogs so much that we will require that he goes to a home with at least one other pup in the house. Ethan is the shy sensitive type at first so he will need a patient owner who will allow him to blossom in his own time. For this reason, we think a relaxed, laid back household would be a good fit. Don't let his shyness fool you though, once comfortable, he shows his silly, affectionate puppy side. He would benefit from a fun puppy training class and we are sure he'd be the "A+" student. We know this because Ethan has already learned potty manners and has been crate educated. Do you want to give Ethan a chance at a beautiful life? We know he will be forever loyal and grateful to his new family. The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which helps with the cost of routine vet care. This fee DOES NOT INCLUDE spay/neuter if the pup is not already spayed/neutered. If the animal you are adopting is not already spayed/neutered, you will be required to sign a contract legally obligating you to have the animal altered. ***Note that puppy adoption fees most often help generate revenue that goes towards older, special needs animals that need our help. Surgeries, heartworm treatment, boarding costs....all things that often result in adoptable dogs and cats being left behind to be euthanized. So adopting a puppy saves not just one life, but many! ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Vetting of current and past pets is very important to us, thus we will be speaking with the vet(s) listed on your application to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies), spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** To complete an online application, please click here then email Crystal at CWood@petconnectrescue.org. Posted Breed: Rottweiler / Beagle / Mixed (short coat). Online application here Meet Arnold, a sweet, 2 year old Rottweiler/Beagle mix (truly a best guess)! Arnold is a shy at first, which is understandable given his life prior to coming to PetConnect was as an outdoor dog. He is currently in foster care where he is learning house manners and discovering how wonderful life can be. Most importantly, he is learning how to trust humans. He is still figuring out sights and sounds, such as the television and cuckoo clock. He is good with other dogs and will require another dog in his forever home to help him with his confidence. He is good with kids, but due to his shy nature, is best with older, calm children, thus will need a home with no children under the age of 10. He is a very sweet-natured boy who will require an adopter who understands that Arnold will need time to warm up to his new surroundings. He is coming along beautifully with his house manners, is house trained, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives and eager to find a family to love! ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Posted Breed: Hound / Shepherd / Mixed. **If you're viewing this on Petfinder, please visit www.petconnectrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.** Good golly, it's Molly, a 1 year old Hound/Shepherd mix. Molly is a very sweet gal, who plays well with other dogs and greets people of all ages with a wagging tail. She enjoys romping in the yard with the dogs in her foster home and playing with her favorite toys. She is incredibly cuddly and would like to think she is a lap dog and crawl up onto your lap for a snuggle. Much like a teen testing the boundaries, Molly can be a bit territorial around her food, she responds quickly to direction but her ideal adopter will be a strong pack leader and have previous dog experience. Molly is very eager to please and will thrive with a family that is willing to continue her training. Please note, while Molly is extremely good with children, because of her continued need for training, she is not recommended for homes with very young children. She is extremely athletic, and seems to do best in a home with other dogs and a big back yard to play in. Molly is house trained, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives and eager to find her forever home! Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). COURTESY POSTING Meet Luna, a two-year old 35-lb Pit/Lab mix bursting with personality. Luna is very smart and highly trainable. She knows “sit,” “stay,” “down," and more, and is always eager to learn new tricks and to please her people. She still has a lot of puppy energy and would be happiest with a family that can take her on daily runs and walks. Her enthusiasm can sometimes be an issue with small and calmer/older dogs, but she is working on curbing this. She’s a great jumper, so ball is always a fun game! She also loves other dogs and is one of the fastest at the dog park. She loves to wrestle with dogs too but doesn’t always know her own strength. Once she gets her energy out, all she wants to do is cuddle with her people. She is good with the children in her home (ages 8 & up) but has very little experience with younger children. Her family rescued her when she was 6 months old and loves her dearly, but is relocating to the UK, where she is unable to go because of a strict country-wide ban on all pit bulls, even mixes. She crate-trained, house-trained, up-to-date on vaccines and just wants to have some people to love. For more information, please email France at FBognon@petconnectrescue.org.
