Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier (short coat). Ace is a beautiful 1 yr old staffordshire pit who was a victim to what appears to be dog fighting. He is not aggressive to kids, people, food or other dog's... NO CATS!!!! Something about him and the look in his eyes captured my heart INSTANTLY. He was picked up as a stray off the streets. Believe it or not, hes HW negative not sure how he managed to dodge that seeing everything else hes been through in his short life =( His right ear was shredded up and infested with maggots, his inner left elbow has a huge gash as well. I have a friend who is really involved in helping the medical cases with SAPA along with alot of other thing and she was nice enough to scrub his ear up and treat his wounds. His ear defiantly needed to go. It smelt of death and was just hanging flesh. He had his surgery on 07-05-15. He had his right ear amputated, upper k9s removed, and his neuter and chip done all at the same time. I had him on antibiotics and pain meds around the clock as directed and with lots of TLC he's all better now. Ace is also deaf btw. I would love for Ace to go to a loving family who wont keep him outside all the time and love him as one of their own. Im willing to help in anyway i can. I want to make sure he goes where its best for HIM. Hes a sweetheart, I cant say it enough.

More About American Staffordshire Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Border Collie / Mixed (short coat). Lady Fea is said to be 10 years old. She is very well behaved and enjoys expressing herself sometimes. She will let you know when she wants to eat or go out. She is a little bossy where her bed is concerned but she is not food aggressive nor dog aggressive. She is getting older so she may have an accident or two but she cries while you clean it. She is very aware that its not ok or normal to have accidents and she tries not to. She is spunky but her hips seem to be a little favored. When I got her she had a mark from the leash she lived on and rolly pollies in her fur from living in her own poo. She had a lot of anxiety and wouldn't eat. Her owners surrendered her and it was obvious she had shut down. We shaved her short, bathed her, gave her a bed, patience, and some love and she opened right up. She is clean, soft, friendly, expressive, and she craves affection. She was scheduled to be euthanized, but San Antonio Pets Alive! saved her and now they are helping her find the forever, loving home that she has never known. She is currently located at San Antonio Pets Alive!, and is in a foster home.
