Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Micky and Mallory are sweet and adorable 1 year old Pitbul mixes. Micky and Mallory were found running loose on a very busy street. They were scooped up to safety, but owners were never found. Mickey and Mallory love to play. They will wrestle for hours, take a nap and then start all over with their playtime. They love to chase the ball and if you're lucky they may bring it back once. These two are great with other dogs, are fine with *knock over proof* kids (kids old enough not to be easily knocked over) and they love all people they have met. These two are most likely litter mates, so they have been together their whole life. We would like to find a home that wants to sweet, bonded playful siblings. They do need some obedience work, but they are quite intelligent and will excel with some consistency and time. Micky and Mallory's adoption fee as a pair is $250. If interested in this pet, please fill out an adoption questionnaire on our main website at www.love4canines.org FOSTER HOMES NEEDED! If interested, please email us ASAP!!!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Whippet Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Atwood, CA
Posted Breed: Whippet / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Meet Sandi, a sweet, goofy 1 year old beige/white male Whip-It mix that has a fun and loving personality! Sandi loves to go for walks, run and play, play, play! He walks very well on the leash with his “easy-walk” collar. He knows how to play tug, and plays fetch with just about everything! Sandy looks like a deer or gazelle and has a keen sense of smell and is becoming a good alarm system. When Sandy isn’t investigating or playing, he loves to be close and snuggle in close quarters. Sandi gets along very well with men, women, and other dogs. Because Sandi is young (about a year), he needs lots of training with name recall, sit, etc. As for his breed, you'll have to see him in person to get a true body stature. The shelter had him listed as a Greyhound, but he is much smaller...more like a Whippet. His breed mix though...is truly a guess!!! He has a natural desire to run, as many sight hounds do :-) He would do best in a home with another playful dog. He is also not suited for apartment or condo living. Sandi has lots of love to give and is looking for a forever home to match his loving and fun personality. He has been neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and is up to date with his vaccinations. His adoption fee is $250. If interested in this pet, please fill out an adoption questionnaire on our main website at www.love4canines.org FOSTER HOMES NEEDED! If interested, please email us ASAP!!!

      Breed: German Shepherd Dog
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Atwood, CA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Shepherd (medium coat). Bella is about 1 1/2 years old. She has so many lovely qualities that it is hard to list them all... But we'll try :-) Bella has not been destructive with her toys. She is house trained and uses a doggie door to come and go. She longs to play with other dogs and also with her toys. Bella will actually gather many of her toys up from out in the yard, and bring them in to put in her bed in the house! It is just the most adorable thing!!! When giving her treats, she takes them like a lady. Bella is also good on leash. We are working on respecting personal space and not jumping up. She waits nicely at doorways and gates. She's friendly with everyone she comes across. Bella has been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $250. Age: Young
      Location: Atwood, CA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Talk about a dog that is a hunk of love...Jet is the hunkiest!!! Baby Huey is the first thing that comes to mind when you meet him :-) He is such a goofy boy and has no idea he is so big. Jet weighs in at 82 pounds, but has no idea! Poor guy was in the shelter and we were so lucky to get him! You've never seen a big boy remind you of a big chicken...when you used to put the leash on him, he'd crawl on the floor instead of walking, it just scared him. Now he is learning to go on walks with other dogs. You just have to make sure he doesn't try to crawl through your legs and knock you over :-) Jet is living with a few other dogs, both male and female of all sizes. He is just happy to have company! If you are looking for a loving, fun, entertaining, and incredibly sweet hunk of love...this is the boy for you!!! Jet has been neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. He's about 1 to 2 years old. His adoption fee is $250. If interested in this pet, please fill out an adoption questionnaire on our main website at www.love4canines.org FOSTER HOMES NEEDED! If interested, please email us ASAP!!!

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Atwood, CA
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Chuck was left in a box in the desert (with his siblings), but luckily found the safely of a rescue. Since we don't have mom or dad, his breed is a complete mystery to us. In his litter, there was a blue merle pup, dark brown pups, cream colored pups, black tri, etc. His foster mom had him DNA tested and it came back mostly Shepherd. There was also some Jack Russell (if I'm correct on that second breed.) We're working on potty training and he's doing well. Chuck is living with other dogs and puppies, very happily :-) He is about 3-years old. He has been neutered, microchipped, and has up to date vaccinations. His adoption fee is $200. Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Atwood, CA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). READY FOR HER NEW HOME!!!! WILL YOU BE THE ONE TO GIVE HER A HAPPY ENDING??? Juliet really needs a happily ever after story! Originally found as a stray in horrible condition, she had since found a home and has been loved for the past four years. Unfortunately for Juliet, a baby came into the picture. Things were going okay and she acted indifferent toward the baby, but when the baby started to crawl, Juliet decided enough was enough. Since we don't know her history before we found her, we don't know if she has had bad experiences with babies, or she just doesn't understand them. Bottom line is that Juliet needs a babyless home. She has NOT hurt the child, has just been growling and she did try to bite at him one day. Per her current owner..."I think she would do much better with older kids... ideally, she would love to be with someone who might be older and home more often than not. She is a great companion dog, very good with adults (never barks, jumps on people, etc), and very gentle with adults!!! She's extremely easy to take care of, is easy to walk, and is potty trained. She has never had an accident inside the house. In fact, she has woken us up a couple times in the middle of the night and waited til we let her out to go to the bathroom." We think she'd be great for a senior, small space living, someone who doesn't want the troubles that come with adopting a puppy, someone who likes to have a four-legged companion close by, etc. Juliet does need to be the only dog in the home. She has been living with another dog (Romeo) for the past four years, but we think he was her son, as they were found together. Romeo is going to stay in his current home. As hard as this has been, the family even offered to let Romeo go as well if we thought they needed to stay together. We think she'll be just fine by herself, so for now, that is our goal. Juliet is about 9-years old and has never had any health issues. She should have several more healthy and happy years to go :-) She is part of our Senior-to-Senior program with a FREE ADOPTION FEE!!! You may still adopt her if you are not a senior, but we do ask a small donation if this is the case. Juliet has been spayed, microchipped, and is current on her vaccinations! www.facebook.com/love4canines If interested in this pet, please fill out an adoption questionnaire on our main website at www.love4canines.org FOSTER HOMES NEEDED! Breed: Boston Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Atwood, CA
Posted Breed: Boston Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Mr Pickles. Young, about 9 months, neutered male, Boston Terrier mix. Pickles is very playful and loves ALL of his toys. He loves playing fetch and wrestling with them. He was found as a stray. He was so terrified he coward in the corner on a porch all day and wouldn't let anyone near him. He appeared to be very aggressive but in fact was just very fearful. After a week in the shelter no one came looking for him so I went back and got him out. He is still fearful of new people but if you let him warm up to you on his own time he comes around. Once he accepts you he is a true love bug. Pickles needs a special home where he feels safe and comfortable. Someone who can help him feel safe and adjust to new people. I suggest no children as they don't often have the patience to give a pet the time and space they need to adjust. I'm not talking a long period. Sometimes he only needs 20 mins or so. Other times a couple days. It's just that it's every new person he meets right now. This could change but there is no guarantee. Pickles will also be microchipped. His adoption fee is $250. Location: Atwood, CA
Posted Breed: Dachshund / Golden Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Oliver is a 2 year old Golden Retriever and Dachshund mix. What?!?! How did that happen! Yes, a big little dog. So I think it's a Golden Weenie! Ollie is a sweet boy that was getting picked on in his prior home. He's timid and the other dogs knew this so they constantly picked on him. Sadly, one of the dogs caused a fight and Oliver was injured. Only minor cuts, but he is fine and all will heal. Sadly, his owners knew for his safety he needed to find a new home. Ollie is great with dogs and would be fine with older children. He is a bit shy and timid, but loves attention. He does follow the other dogs around in his home and I am sure he would enjoy a friendly doggie sibling. Ollie weighs about 35 pounds, but needs to gain some weight. He is like a big dog, whose legs didn't grow. Ollie has one partially blue eye, which adds to his unique character. He's a sweetheart and deserves a wonderful home. Oliver's adoption fee: $250 If interested in this pet, please fill out an adoption questionnaire on our main website at www.love4canines.org FOSTER HOMES NEEDED! Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Although not quite a senior, Molly does qualify for our Seniors 4 Seniors program. For further information, please click on the Seniors 4 Seniors button on the left of this page. Hello there! My name is Molly and I am looking for my soul mate :-) I am seven years old and a huge love muffin! My mom was a pretty and petite black and white Staffie mix who had the best personality ever! She was adopted to a wonderful family with children. I was actually adopted once, but my family didn't take me out very often, so i thought I was doing my job when I would growl at people who came over. I didn't know who the strangers were who came over so I just thought I was protecting my family :-( Unfortunately my family didn't care about me anymore, so returned me to the rescue. I know that not many people inquire about me because of my breed, but I promise you...I am a young lady just yearning to love again. My friend who runs the rescue just loves me :-) She says I am such a sweetie and gives me kisses all the time! I love when she takes me for rides...I just jump right in the front seat of her truck and lie on the seat next to her as she drives. I never try to sit on her lap while she is driving because I know that isn't safe...I just lay down on my pretty pink blanket and enjoy the ride. When I am out on walks or hanging out on a leash, I love when people or kids pet me! I will hang out and soak up all the attention I can get. When I am home I do like to protect my people/person, so I need to politely ask that whomever adopts me has the type of home that doesn't get many visitors. I give you my word that I will never let anyone into our yard and will protect and keep you safe!!! Then, if you have people come over to visit, just put me in a crate or out in the back yard. I will keep myself entertained by throwing my toys around and catching them :-) I have already been spayed, microchipped, and am current on my shots. My adoption fee is $100.
