Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Micky and Mallory are sweet and adorable 1 year old Pitbul mixes. Micky and Mallory were found running loose on a very busy street. They were scooped up to safety, but owners were never found. Mickey and Mallory love to play. They will wrestle for hours, take a nap and then start all over with their playtime. They love to chase the ball and if you're lucky they may bring it back once. These two are great with other dogs, are fine with *knock over proof* kids (kids old enough not to be easily knocked over) and they love all people they have met. These two are most likely litter mates, so they have been together their whole life. We would like to find a home that wants to sweet, bonded playful siblings. They do need some obedience work, but they are quite intelligent and will excel with some consistency and time. Micky and Mallory's adoption fee as a pair is $250. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: English Bulldog / Border Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Maddie is a 2-3 year old Boston Terrier/English Bulldog mix. She is like a little mini Bulldog. She is chunky, squishy and adorable all rolled into one. Maddie is sweet and loveable. She loves other dogs, doesn't pay attention to the cats and loves kids. She enjoys playing, exploring and to sunbathe outside. She knows how to use a doggie door, and loves the freedom to hang outside or come in and take a snooze. She would be fine with another dog or as an only dog. She’s pretty easy going and doesn’t demand much, except lots of love. She would do best in a home that understands the bully breeds. Olaf

      Breed: Great Dane
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Great Dane (short coat). i Introducing...Olaf! He is our 100-pound, 14-month old Great Dane! This hunk of love was found at a local shelter, extremely scared and shy. Now that he is in his foster home, he is an adorable, playful, and loving pup. Olaf’s roommate is a 20-pound Terrier, but not very playful with him, unfortunately. They will sometimes run back and forth together and also bow play, but that’s about it. Olaf longs for a playful buddy to enjoy romping around with. He is good on leash, but does have some peculiar behaviors when out walking. When he comes upon another dog, all he can think about is getting to the dog. It sounds like aggression, but it appears he just doesn’t understand the proper way to meet a new friend. This is something he needs to learn. Off leash...totally different story. He gets along with them just fine, no matter the size of the other dog. For now, he just chews on his toys and flings them in the air so he can chase them. He is grabby with his toys and because of his size, we will not be placing him in a home with small children. Olaf hasn’t quite learned to let go of his toys yet, but is very food motivated, so something his adoptive Family can continue working on. He is still shy around men, but once they sit down, he is much more comfortable! When we say shy, the behavior we want you to understand is that he will bark, and sometimes growl, at men. He still barks at the foster Dad, but then wants to crawl into his lap when he sits down. He has done this with each male he has encountered. If you have teenaged boys, it will probably be the same behavior, so please think first. He has never been aggressive with anyone, on or off leash. Olaf is a trainable dog and will make someone really nice pet. That being said, he needs to go to a home that knows and understands large breeds. A home that is willing to work with his little idiosyncrasies and continue his training. If you choose to fill out an adoption questionnaire for Olaf, please also send a separate email to love4k9z@mac.com and detail your experience with this breed and/or other large breeds. We want to set this boy for a successful life-long home full of love, commitment, and boundaries. Olaf is crate trained and has not had any accidents in the house. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and dewormed. His adoption fee is $400. Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Retriever / Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). This is Zoe... She and her brother, Zeke, are looking for loving homes. They are about 6-months old currently. Somehow they found themselves in a shelter with their mom. Not sure of their breed or their adult size, but our guess is 40-lbs, give or take (currently about 30-lbs.). Please remember this is a guess. It is obvious that they had never been handled as they were growing up, as they were so afraid of anyone touching them. Zoe is an absolute hoot to watch!!! She loves playing with toys, other dogs, and chewing on her bones. She enjoys the water and will hang out in the baby pool when it's warm. Zoe LOVES people and as soon as she sees you, she runs over, jumps up, bows down to play, and/or grabs a toy. She will come lay by you when it is quiet time also. Zoe is still a bit shy and unsure when meeting new people. Because she is still learning to trust, we think a home with another dog to learn from and one with no small children would be best for her. She comes for treats and to play with you! Zoe hangs out with the other dogs during the day and sleeps in a crate at night. Next step is for Zoe to learn to walk on a leash. She is already crate trained and does really well with going potty outside. Zoe has been spayed, microchipped, dewormed, has all four puppy vaccinations, and rabies. Her adoption fee is $300. Breed: Mutt

      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Duke is a 7-year old Terrier mix that was originally adopted from us when he was just a year old. He's a bit timid at first, but he warms up extremely quick and is a sweet and funny little guy! His owner was not able to care for him and was unsure about his insecurities when meeting new people. If a dog is insecure and you coddle them, they feel the need to protect you and think it is okay to be shy. He has been such a good boy since he's been back with us! He's had no problems in his foster home. We thought he'd be a project, but he's been a piece of cake!!! He greets all visitors with a welcome smile and happy-go-lucky personality. He lives with other dogs of all sizes and ages with no problem. He loves to run and chase the ball, but isn't interested in bring it back to you :-) He's about 15-20 pounds, knows how to sit, and give 5. If you are looking for a scruffy little man who is house trained (doesn't even mark in the house!), is great on leash, neutered, microchipped, and loves other dogs and people, this little guy is just waiting to go home with you! His adoption fee is $200. If interested in this pet, please fill out an adoption questionnaire on our main website at www.love4canines.org FOSTER HOMES NEEDED! If interested, please email us ASAP!!!

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). WILL YOU BE THE ONE TO GIVE THEM THEIR HAPPY ENDING??? Foster or adopt Romeo and/or Juliet today!!! Poor babies...Initially, Romeo and Juliet were found wandering the streets of the Inland Empire. They were in such horrible shape, we were stunned!!! These two precious pups were then placed in what we thought would be a fabulous home, only to have them returned FOUR YEARS later because the family wants to do more out-or-the-country traveling!!! Once again, these two precious dogs need a new home. They can be placed together or separate. The good thing is that they are now both potty trained and have great house manners :-) Romeo is great with kids of all ages and other dogs. Juliet prefers the kids to be a little older and not in her face all the time. It takes her a few minutes to adjust to other dogs, but in the past, she had no problems with them. They both ride well in the car and walk nicely on the leash. They will give you as much love as you could ever want and all they ask for in return are the basics...food/water, shelter, and lots of love! Although they would love to be adopted together, they can also be split up. Being in the 6-8 year old range, they qualify for our Senior-4-Senior adoption program with a FREE adoption fee! If you are not a senior, you may still adopt one or both of the dogs. The adoption fee for each dog is $150, but if you take both...the adoption fee will be $150 for both of them!!! JULIET: Unfortunately for Juliet, a baby came into the picture. Things were going okay and she acted indifferent toward the baby, but when the baby started to crawl, Juliet decided enough was enough. Since we don't know her history before we found her, we don't know if she has had bad experiences with babies, or she just doesn't understand them. Bottom line is that Juliet needs a babyless home. She has NOT hurt the child, has just been growling and she did try to bite at him one day. Per her current owner..."I think she would do much better with older kids... ideally, she would love to be with someone who might be older and home more often than not. She is a great companion dog, very good with adults (never barks, jumps on people, etc), and very gentle with adults!!! She's extremely easy to take care of, is easy to walk, and is potty trained. She has never had an accident inside the house. In fact, she has woken us up a couple times in the middle of the night and waited til we let her out to go to the bathroom." We think she'd be great for a senior, small space living, someone who doesn't want the troubles that come with adopting a puppy, someone who likes to have a four-legged companion close by, etc. www.facebook.com/love4canines If interested in this pet, please fill out an adoption questionnaire on our main website at www.love4canines.org FOSTER HOMES NEEDED! Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Chuck was left in a box in the desert (with his siblings), but luckily found the safely of a rescue. Since we don't have mom or dad, his breed is a complete mystery to us. In his litter, there was a blue merle pup, dark brown pups, cream colored pups, black tri, etc. His foster mom had him DNA tested and it came back mostly Shepherd. There was also some Jack Russell (if I'm correct on that second breed.) We're working on potty training and he's doing well. Chuck is living with other dogs and puppies, very happily :-) He is about 3-years old. He has been neutered, microchipped, and has up to date vaccinations. His adoption fee is $200.
