Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. My perfect family: One with strength and experience with dogs who need strong leaders. I can live with some dogs but not all of them. I would love a home by myself if possible. However with the right experienced owner who knows the intricacies of my breed I can be fine with other dogs. I like to be the protector of the other dog at home and do not like them barking at each other. How did I get to NDLB: I was at a local impound facility and my foster parents came and broke me out! Hobbies: Barking at things and whomever! I do like a rope toy from time to time. My favorite thing is to lay in the sun and chill! Commands/Tricks: Sit and laydown are all that I really need. I am a pretty mello and chill kinda guy. I sleep in the room of my 11 year old human and have never had an accident in the home no matter how long I am left out! Crate/Potty Trained: NO In fact I break out of them and will only do well with free reign of the home. Activity Level: Medium. Likes to hang out with people and relax mostly. Fun things I do: Laying on the lap of whomever will let me. I love going on walks and laying in the grass in the sun. Socialization/who I currently live with: Piper (6 year old Pit Bull), Scout(Elvis) the 14# 1 year old trouble maker. Shianne (my human sister), Savanah (my human baby sitter), Jill (my Mom), and Matthew (my Dad) Wall-e's adoption fee includes: Rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, neuter, flea and tick preventive (while in rescue), heartworm preventive (while in rescue), pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Adoption fee: $145.00

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Hi I'm Sandy, sometimes my foster mom calls me Sandra :) I'm a really sweet little girl and very submissive but sometimes I'm not the best listener (but what can I say I am a Boxer), so I would do really well with a fenced yard. I'm really good friends with the kitty that I live with. We love to play and I chase him around the house giving him kisses. I'm very quiet in my kennel and don't mind going in there because it makes me feel safe. I'm still working on house training a little bit, but I get better each day I promise! I'm a very curious girl and love to cuddle. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, spay, prepaid microchip, 4DX (heartworm/tick disease testing), dewormed, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, heartworm and flea/tick preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $425.00

Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). My name is Lucas and I'm proof that even after being abused, dogs can still love people. I'm house trained and can spend time in my crate without making noise, but I'd rather curl up beside you on the couch. My most favorite thing is belly rubs! I love everybody I meet. Sometimes I like other dogs I meet, and sometimes I don't. I love kids as they are the best to snuggle with! I haven't met a cat, but based on my prey drive, I probably should not be in a house with kitties. The forever home I would be best suited for is a house where I am the only dog. I would really love it if there were kids for me to snuggle with too, but I like humans of all ages. I will lean in to be pet and be your best buddy. I tend to pull a little when walking on a leash mostly because I love to sniff everything I can and am excited to meet people. I'm also super smart! I know sit, down and I'm a really really good shaker too. I know my forever family is out there somewhere and I can't wait to meet you! Lucas's adoption fee includes: rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, neuter, flea and tick preventive,(seasonal) heartworm preventive (seasonal) pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Adoption fee:$275.00

Posted Breed: Whippet / Mixed (short coat). Hi my name is LeRoy! I’m a super fun-loving pup with a lot of energy and am looking for my very own family! I love to be around people and especially, to be close to my primary caregiver. I have a lot of energy when we are outside, but inside I can just as easily hang out, lounging close to you. I’m a Whippet mix and we are similar to a Greyhound, like a Greyhound junior. I like other dogs because I really am playful! I like to encourage my foster sister to get pretty active with our rope toy. When we are not playing, I like to know exactly where she is because sometimes she sneaks the toys but I just sneak them back! I walk every day on a leash and I’m pretty good at it. My foster mom says sometimes I have a hop in my step and I look like I’m skipping. Do you know someone who likes a lot of puppy attention and likes to play fetch? I am looking to be part of a family that I can be active with! Leroy's adoption fee includes: DHPP vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, Rabies vaccination, de-wormer, flea and tick preventative, heartworm preventative, pre-paid microchip, neuter, 4DX and a full veterinary exam: 375.00

I am pretty easy going so to wrap me up in a nut shell. I love everyone, kids, adults, other dogs yup; I am the kind of dog you want to take out and about. I love my kennel and I love to play. I would really like another dog buddy or a place to go play with other dogs, I am young so I do have energy and if board will dig holes in the back yard so having a friend or day care would insure I am the best behaved boy. I also do need to learn some basic manners but I would love to learn and going to class would be fun and a good way for us to bound. I sure would love to have a home to call my own. Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). I am a young girl on the go ready to explore the world with my new family! Playing with balls, my tug rope, sticks or large branches and even big rocks or bricks! Yep, I like to push a brick and rock around the yard with my nose. My foster momma calls me Bunny Hop Hop or Prancy Pants and she laughs as I bounce around outside. Maybe I’m part Tigger too! We could go to training together or maybe even agility. I already know sit, down, wait, ball, kiss, go potty, here, off, in the house and am working on leave it, drop and kennel up. I’m good on a leash and do like to help you walk me which foster Momma and Daddy tell me to leave it all the time. I’m only trying to help! I wear a harness along with my martingale collar when out of my big fenced yard so I don’t slip out of my collar and get lost again. When in my kennel I chew on a durable Nylabone BIG Chew Beef Bone and a big knotted long rope. The Chuck It ball is great to exercise my jaw, paw around or fetch. I keep my kennel clean and dry. It’s great to have baby cuddle time on the couch, get my beautiful bat ears scratched and oh those back and belly rubs are awesome. Oh yeah. I live with two dogs and two kitties! One kitty likes to tease me when I’m working on proper kitty social skills. I think that cat needs training! I’m pretty good around kids but I’m young and do mouth yet in a playful way. Isn’t everything a toy? Foster momma says I’m a sweet, shiny, soft-furred, young, curious pup. A family dedicated to exercising me, keeping my brain busy and will continue to train me would be best. If you can be a strong leader for me, submit an application and talk with my foster momma to see if you are the right family for me. Bunny's adoption fee includes:Full veterinary exam, spay, prepaid microchip, dewormer, Rabies vaccine, Distemper combo vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX, flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Posted Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat). I am a very shy girl. I get along well with the other dogs at my foster home. I love to run, play, and wrestle with them. I love stuffed animals and chew toys. I am learning to catch the ball but I won’t bring it back to my foster mom yet as I am still learning about trusting humans. I will eat food out of my foster mom’s hand but do not like being touched yet. I know to go into my kennel when she tells me to “kennel-up”. I am crate trained and I feel safe in my crate. I like to chew on bones in my crate to keep me happy and busy. I also like to lay around the house and relax. I will need a yard with a fence and hopefully another dog to run and play with to teach me how to act like a secure dog. I do not like my leash yet so I have not been on any walks. I am very loving and would love a very, very patient human to continue to teach me that it feels good to be loved by people. I have learned to accept treats from other people which makes me realize they are my friends. Alyssa's adoption fee includes: DHPP vaccination to age, Bordetella vaccination, Rabies vaccination, de-wormer, flea and tick preventative, heartworm preventative, pre-paid microchip, spay, and a full veterinary exam: $425.00

      Lola

      Breed: Dachshund-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Meet Lola! Lola came into rescue with her puppies as a stray. Lola is very unsure of what is going on. She will need a very understanding and patient family without children willing to work with her fears. Lola is very sweet but very scared of people. She seems to warm up to women more then men and has made an amazing bond with her foster mom, but it takes awhile for her to show signs of being comfortable. Lola strives best with another dog in the house. Other dogs help her come out of her shell and helps her build her confidence. Lola loves other dogs and it will help her learn to trust humans better by learning from the other dog in the home and to learn that people are friendly and not scary. When Lola is scared she reacts by running and hiding and trying to bury herself in a corner. She is scared to be touched if she doesn't know you and doesn't like to be held. Lola is working on potty training and is doing very good! It takes some coaxing to get her outside, but once she is, she will go potty. She has done very well with going to the bathroom outside and hasn't had an accident in her foster home in quite awhile. This is huge progress for her. Lola likes to spend her time lounging on the couch on her own. She isn't much of a cuddler but will curl up by your legs if you're laying on the couch next to her. Lola would not do well in a home with a lot of activity and loud noises. Children and new people make her very nervous and scared. Lola is very sweet and quiet. She needs a home that is willing to help build her confidence which she is extremely lacking in. The ideal home for Lola would be a quiet home with low activity and understanding that she has fears of people but with another animal companion that will help her come out of her shell a ton. In her foster home she has shown much improvement over the last few months, but still struggles with the unknown. When Lola is frightened she has never shown any aggression, she has the flight response and wants to run as far away as possible and almost wants to be invisible. Lola is kennel trained and will need to be kenneled when no one is home. She does great sleeping in her fosters bed at night and will cuddle by your legs. But when left alone during the day she has anxiety and has started to become destructive. She does great in her kennel and doesn't make a sound. Lola is not leash trained and is fearful of them. She will try to escape and chew through the leash. Because of this, Lola requires a fully fenced in yard. Lola is a tougher case and really needs someone who wants to work with her. Despite Lola's quirks, she is the sweetest girl and once she gets to know you, she becomes your little shadow. Lola's adoption fee includes: Rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, spay, flea and tick preventive (seasonal), heartworm preventive (while in rescue), pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Adoption fee:$285.00
