Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. My perfect family: One with strength and experience with dogs who need strong leaders. I can live with some dogs but not all of them. I would love a home by myself if possible. However with the right experienced owner who knows the intricacies of my breed I can be fine with other dogs. I like to be the protector of the other dog at home and do not like them barking at each other. How did I get to NDLB: I was at a local impound facility and my foster parents came and broke me out! Hobbies: Barking at things and whomever! I do like a rope toy from time to time. My favorite thing is to lay in the sun and chill! Commands/Tricks: Sit and laydown are all that I really need. I am a pretty mello and chill kinda guy. I sleep in the room of my 11 year old human and have never had an accident in the home no matter how long I am left out! Crate/Potty Trained: NO In fact I break out of them and will only do well with free reign of the home. Activity Level: Medium. Likes to hang out with people and relax mostly. Fun things I do: Laying on the lap of whomever will let me. I love going on walks and laying in the grass in the sun. Socialization/who I currently live with: Piper (6 year old Pit Bull), Scout(Elvis) the 14# 1 year old trouble maker. Shianne (my human sister), Savanah (my human baby sitter), Jill (my Mom), and Matthew (my Dad) Wall-e's adoption fee includes: Rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, neuter, flea and tick preventive (while in rescue), heartworm preventive (while in rescue), pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Adoption fee: $145.00

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). My name is Lucas and I'm proof that even after being abused, dogs can still love people. I'm house trained and can spend time in my crate without making noise, but I'd rather curl up beside you on the couch. My most favorite thing is belly rubs! I love everybody I meet. Sometimes I like other dogs I meet, and sometimes I don't. I love kids as they are the best to snuggle with! I haven't met a cat, but based on my prey drive, I probably should not be in a house with kitties. The forever home I would be best suited for is a house where I am the only dog. I would really love it if there were kids for me to snuggle with too, but I like humans of all ages. I will lean in to be pet and be your best buddy. I tend to pull a little when walking on a leash mostly because I love to sniff everything I can and am excited to meet people. I'm also super smart! I know sit, down and I'm a really really good shaker too. I know my forever family is out there somewhere and I can't wait to meet you! Lucas's adoption fee includes: rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, neuter, flea and tick preventive,(seasonal) heartworm preventive (seasonal) pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Adoption fee:$275.00

      Lola

      Breed: Dachshund-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Meet Lola! Lola came into rescue with her puppies as a stray. Lola is very unsure of what is going on. She will need a very understanding and patient family without children willing to work with her fears. Lola is very sweet but very scared of people. She seems to warm up to women more then men and has made an amazing bond with her foster mom, but it takes awhile for her to show signs of being comfortable. Lola strives best with another dog in the house. Other dogs help her come out of her shell and helps her build her confidence. Lola loves other dogs and it will help her learn to trust humans better by learning from the other dog in the home and to learn that people are friendly and not scary. When Lola is scared she reacts by running and hiding and trying to bury herself in a corner. She is scared to be touched if she doesn't know you and doesn't like to be held. Lola is working on potty training and is doing very good! It takes some coaxing to get her outside, but once she is, she will go potty. She has done very well with going to the bathroom outside and hasn't had an accident in her foster home in quite awhile. This is huge progress for her. Lola likes to spend her time lounging on the couch on her own. She isn't much of a cuddler but will curl up by your legs if you're laying on the couch next to her. Lola would not do well in a home with a lot of activity and loud noises. Children and new people make her very nervous and scared. Lola is very sweet and quiet. She needs a home that is willing to help build her confidence which she is extremely lacking in. The ideal home for Lola would be a quiet home with low activity and understanding that she has fears of people but with another animal companion that will help her come out of her shell a ton. In her foster home she has shown much improvement over the last few months, but still struggles with the unknown. When Lola is frightened she has never shown any aggression, she has the flight response and wants to run as far away as possible and almost wants to be invisible. Lola is kennel trained and will need to be kenneled when no one is home. She does great sleeping in her fosters bed at night and will cuddle by your legs. But when left alone during the day she has anxiety and has started to become destructive. She does great in her kennel and doesn't make a sound. Lola is not leash trained and is fearful of them. She will try to escape and chew through the leash. Because of this, Lola requires a fully fenced in yard. Lola is a tougher case and really needs someone who wants to work with her. Despite Lola's quirks, she is the sweetest girl and once she gets to know you, she becomes your little shadow. Lola's adoption fee includes: Rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, spay, flea and tick preventive (seasonal), heartworm preventive (while in rescue), pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Adoption fee:$285.00

Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). This is Bowser (Titan) he is a brindle boy that is good with other dogs, cats and older kids. He needs an owner or foster that is the alpha and will set rules for him while in the home because his current owners have reported that he has become protective of his home when strangers come over. This behavior is easily rectified with set boundaries and aan adopter willing to be the leader at all times. He did NOT behave this way until he became comfortable in the home and was allowed to be alpha. Bowser doesn't chew anything around the house that isn't his and he is entirely housetrained. He loves walks, would like to meet every dog that he sees so can be a bit of a puller on occasion. He is great with other dogs after a short introduction - he gets very excited to meet new pups! He is a huge cuddler and loves to go for car rides! He has done really well with the kids in his current foster home. Bowser's adoption fee includes: rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, neuter, flea and tick preventive,(seasonal) heartworm preventive (seasonal) pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). Hello future family. I am so excited to meet you. My name is Baby although my foster mom calls me Baby Jane or Luv Bug because she said I am such a Luv. I am a Terrier X but everyone sees something different in me. Some people see Boxer, some see Bulldog, who knows - my foster mommy thinks I am a Mastiff Pit X. Everyone who meets me say I have the perfect personality and qualities of each of the above mentioned breeds. I have only been with my foster family since the end of March and so far have gotten along with all animals (dogs & cats) and people. I am house trained & crate trained. I have a ton of energy so I need to be with a family who is active. I love to play fetch and of course to run run run. I need training - I am a smart girl but if I have to tell the truth, which Foster mom said I do, I am sort of stubborn and thick skulked. I need calmness & consistency. My foster mom has been working with me and I know a few commands like sit, stay, come, off, leave it. But... true confession - when I get excited, everything I know goes right out of my head. My favorite thing to do, is go for walks. Long walks, short walks, slow walks, quick walks any sort of walks. Yes Please. Oh yea another love ❤️ of mine is car rides. Maybe you might even let me put my head out the window. Well I guess that is all that have right now. I super hope I hear from you. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, spay, prepaid microchip, dewormer, Rabies vaccine, Distemper combo vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue and 4DX. Adoption fee: $350.00

I am almost 100% house broken but for the life of me I have not figured out how to ask to go out; so my foster mom lets me out about every 2 hours, but in my kennel I never make a mess. I am still have a bit pup in me so sometimes I still chew on things I am not suppose to, but my foster mom is on me and I am learning. I love walks and I walk so well on a leash. My foster mom says since I have been living with her for a while it will take me awhile to get us to a new home.
