Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Please contact ADOPTION (adopt@doggieharmony.org) for more information about this pet. A real ladies man who's great with other dogs! I am a pretty laid back sort of guy that my foster mom calls a “couch potato.” Some of my favorite things to do are chewing on a rawhide or bone, laying around on the sofa, and being loved on by my foster mom. I'm kind of a ladies man and if I could pick, I'd want to live with just women. But, I will try to make friends with men who are willing to work with me. I also enjoy having another dog in the home because they speak my language and can assure me I'm safe in my new home. I am crate trained and house broken. I am slim, trim, and sweet. I loved playing with my foster brother Jr. (who is smaller than me but is now in his forever home) but am very content when my foster mom pets me and loves on me. The only thing lacking is my forever home. Will you be my forever family? Age: 8 y/o Vetting: Neutered, vaccinated and up-to-date on preventatives Training: House and crate-trained; need more socialization/training around men Temperament: Loves women; great with other dogs; older children preferred Contact this pet's foster/rescuer Deborah at dabvet2b@hotmail.com or 404-296-2729 with questions, or proceed with the Adoption Application. Upon completion, you may send it to adopt@doggieharmony.org This adoptable is not a Doggie Harmony animal, but a courtesy listing on behalf of the kind person who rescued and cares for this animal until it can find a forever home. There will likely be a fee to reimburse for the cost of its vetting/care; it will vary by rescuer/animal. Additionally, this rescuer will ask you to complete an application and allow a home visit to ensure pet is a good fit for your home/lifestyle. If you would like to proceed with the application, please go to www.doggieharmony.org > Forms > Adoption Application. Upon completion, you may send it to adopt@doggieharmony.org, as well as the contact listed in the above description.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Boxer-Plott Hound Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Plott Hound / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Please contact ADOPTION (adopt@doggieharmony.org) for more information about this pet. Sadie was dumped on a busy highway in the south with nothing more than a half bag of rotten food. She stayed there in the median for 3 days until a good person befriended her and she jumped in the car. She would have likely been used as a bait dog if not picked up. Sadie settled into her foster home very quickly and has shown that she is a loving family dog. She loves to play with dogs and is great with people. She would love a home with another dog to go for walks with and a fenced yard to play in. She is just so happy to be taken care of and safe. She is a beautiful brindle girl and just a lovely soul. She loves attention and tenderness and loves to cuddle. She does not show much interest in cats, but does not live with a cat right now. Loves her toys as well. She will make the most amazing family pet ever. Age: 4 1/2 years Weight: 45 lbs Temperament: Gets along with dogs and people. Doesn't seem interested in cats but not living with one. Training: crate-trained, walks nicely on a leash. She would be even better with basic training. Vetting: Spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm negative Contact adopt@doggieharmony.org with questions or complete/send an Adoption Application for fastest response. This adoptable is not in the Doggie Harmony program; s/he is a courtesy listing on behalf of the kind person who is caring for this pet until a forever home is found. There will be a fee to reimburse for the cost of its vetting/care; it may vary by caregiver/animal. Additionally, you will be asked to complete an Adoption Application and allow a home visit to ensure the pet is a good fit for your home/lifestyle.

Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed. Please contact ADOPTION (adopt@doggieharmony.org) for more information about this pet. Hey, everybody! Tiny Tim here! I arrived at rescue in early April and have been settling in. They don’t really know my back story; just that I’m a young, healthy boy who ended up at the kill shelter. And now? Here I am, ready for a second chance. I absolutely love everyone I meet. As you can probably tell from my photos, I’m very much a lap dog, young and trusting of men, women and children. I love to be in your arms or on your lap … between play time, of course! That said, I was apparently not socialized as a pup and I’m very reactive with other dogs. They’re working on introducing me to other dogs, but, for now, I would do best as an only dog, especially with someone who has the energy and experience to teach me to be the awesome dog I was born to be. Age: 1 y/o Weight: 10 lbs Temperament: Great with all people, but prefers to be only pet Vetting: Neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and heartworm negative Contact adopt@doggieharmony.org with questions or complete/send an Adoption Application. We look forward to hearing from you. Doggie Harmony's adoption fee is $175. To ensure we're meeting both pet and adopters' needs, we ask potential adopters to complete an application and later, bring the adoptable to their home for a preliminary visit. I’m an older gal (around 8-10 years) and my hearing and sight aren’t quite what they used to be. But does that hold me down? Heck no! I get around just fine.Just look at my video! I’m house/crate trained, great on a leash and can see shadows and follow your voice just fine. I’m soft ’n fluffy like a teddy bear and very easygoing. My favorite thing to do is just to lounge around the house, but I also enjoy going for walks and checking out my surroundings. (Lizards don’t get past me!) Other dogs are OK, but I would do best as an only dog or with another low-key/older dog like me. My health is pretty good. My rescuers are just working on getting a couple benign cysts removed during a dental. Might as well do all of that stuff at once, but nothing to hold me back from finding my forever home! Age: 8-10 y/o Weight: 15-20 lbs Temperament: Great with people and kids, prefers to be only pet Training: Housetrained and crate-trained, walks nicely on a leash Vetting: Spay/neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm negative Contact adopt@doggieharmony.org with questions or complete/send an .
