Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Evie, once a loving mama of 8 sweet pups, has matured into a gentle 4-year-old lady in love with life and in love with loving. Quite simply, she is worth her weight (50 pounds) in love. Her two favorite pastimes are generously doling out kisses and cuddling up close to her people as often as paws-ible. She never tires of either of these. Evie moves about slowly and humbly but her tail whips constantly from side to side almost doing 360 degrees before reversing again. She also has the most amazing smile or "submissive grin." For those who have never experienced this phenomenon, it's incredibly adorable. Evie smiles when her people come home. She smiles when she gets some loving and she smiles when she gets excited. Yet as sweet and smiley as she is, she is very nervous in new situations, during storms, and while traveling. Evie is not destructive or volatile, she just pants and drools until the experience ends and needs a patient family who can help her overcome or ride out these fears. Now in search of her forever home, Evie requires one with a privacy fence that is 5 feet or higher. Evie is a world class jumper but if Evie can’t see anything tempting to chase, she doesn't jump. But just imagine having this sweetheart jump up on your lap or your sofa for some snuggling and that’s another story altogether. Evie is fostered in Birmingham, AL but is willing to travel to nearby cities for her happily ever after. For more information about this special Mama Bear please contact info@forrescue.net and ask about adopting Evie and having her love you forever.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: Huntsville, AL
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Julie is a senior chi/terrier that was an owner surrender to a very loud shelter. She was shaking and has a lot of hair missing from her tail and hind area. It is slowly growing back but the vet doesn't think her hair will grow back on her tail. She has the cutest ears where one stands up and one stays down. She had her teeth cleaned and though she has cloudy eyes the vet says it is not cataracts and she can see fine. She does have a heart murmur that does not need medicine right now as she is not in heart failure. She has the cutest little bark but is not very vocal. She is fine with all other dogs but will tell them to back up if they get in her face. She is very low energy and easy going. She can be trusted in the house and doesn't tear up anything but she will need someone who is home every few hours to let her go outside to potty. She cant hold it for long periods of time. She sleeps through the night in her dog bed on the floor. She is fostered in Huntsville, AL. to learn more about sweet Julia email info@forrescue.net.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Shar Pei / Mixed (short coat). ~~Hey my name is Finn and I’m a five year old yellow lab/shar-pei mix. I love taking naps and cuddling with people. I have super sweet brown eyes and I love to be petted. My tail goes crazy when you give me attention and I am eager to show you my sit on command skills. I also enjoy going for walks but I am definitely a laid back kind of guy. I am happy sleeping in a crate or in a cozy dog bed. I had heart worms when I was at the shelter but the nice people at FOR got me treated and now I'm feeling better. I am house trained, up to date on my shots, and microchipped. Please consider making me part of your family! If you would like more information please email info@FORrescue.net or apply directly at http://www.FORrescue.net

      Cora

      rescue
Breed: Labrador Retriever-Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Huntsville, AL
Posted Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Bullie / Lab / Other?? Black and White ball of love! Cora is a playful, friendly, loving girl who loves to run and play. She is very smart and comes when called. Stays when told to do so (ie: when her foster mom is feeding the horses she tells Cora to stay back from the fence and she does so until she is told it’s okay to come closer). She is curious about the barn cats but just sniffs them and walks away when she gets close enough. She is believed to be around 2-3 years old. Although she was skin and bones after having her puppies she is now a perfect weigh and super healthy. Dog / Cat Friendly: She loves other dogs and all people but she is curious about the cats. She would easily learn to leave cats alone, however. She may be cautious when meeting other large females but she has no hesitation with males or smaller females. She does like to jump up for pets an attention but is learning not to do that. She just wants to be close to her people and get lots of attention. Kid Friendly: She has not been around children but she is so super friendly I am sure she would be fine with children. She may be too strong or playful for very small children, however. She should be supervised with children at first so the children can get used to her and her to them. She likes to jump up to give kisses. Energy Level: Typical younger dog but not at all hyper. Loves to run and play but will quiet down rather quickly after playing and/or eating. As mentioned before, she is learning to not jump up for attention and she already knows the sit command. She LOVES food but is not food aggressive - she's just a little piggy and loves her meals and treats. Probably because she was so malnourished before coming into rescue. She still needs work on house training but will learn quickly since she’s proven to be a smart girl an learns her commands quickly. Cora needs a home that is willing to work with her on potty training and other training and give her lots of love and attention.

      Brewster

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Huntsville, AL
Posted Breed: Bull Terrier / Mixed. Brewster came to us in what could have been his final hours. He was in bad shape, and had to be carried in and out of the house. After being fed and loved a lot, he's a new man!! If you want an over sized lap dog, that cuddles on the couch and snuggles at night, he's your guy. If you need a buddy to ride around with, or keep you company on walks, Brewster is there. He gets along great with dogs once he gets to know them, but would need a slow introduction. He lives with several cats, and several dogs, and he is great with them. He is gentle around kids, and loves all humans. Brewster will do best in a home with no other dogs where he can the center of attention. Brewster is house broken and crate trained. He is extremely strong when walking him, so he needs someone with experience in teaching him not to pull, and will only go to an experienced bully breed owner. Fostered in Huntsville AL. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, hw negative and on prevention
