Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Evie, once a loving mama of 8 sweet pups, has matured into a gentle 4-year-old lady in love with life and in love with loving. Quite simply, she is worth her weight (50 pounds) in love. Her two favorite pastimes are generously doling out kisses and cuddling up close to her people as often as paws-ible. She never tires of either of these. Evie moves about slowly and humbly but her tail whips constantly from side to side almost doing 360 degrees before reversing again. She also has the most amazing smile or "submissive grin." For those who have never experienced this phenomenon, it's incredibly adorable. Evie smiles when her people come home. She smiles when she gets some loving and she smiles when she gets excited. Yet as sweet and smiley as she is, she is very nervous in new situations, during storms, and while traveling. Evie is not destructive or volatile, she just pants and drools until the experience ends and needs a patient family who can help her overcome or ride out these fears. Now in search of her forever home, Evie requires one with a privacy fence that is 5 feet or higher. Evie is a world class jumper but if Evie can’t see anything tempting to chase, she doesn't jump. But just imagine having this sweetheart jump up on your lap or your sofa for some snuggling and that’s another story altogether. Evie is fostered in Birmingham, AL but is willing to travel to nearby cities for her happily ever after. For more information about this special Mama Bear please contact info@forrescue.net and ask about adopting Evie and having her love you forever.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Huntsville, AL
Posted Breed: Beagle / Shepherd / Mixed. Zooey is a very sweet and shy puppy. She is a little less than a year old and she weighs 35 lbs. She gets along great with other dogs and she does fine with cats too. She has lots of puppy energy and would love a backyard where she can run and be silly. Her favorite treat is peanut butter. She is a huge cuddler and she likes to curl up next to her foster mom, or one of the other dogs in the house, and take naps. She loves to have her floppy ears and her belly rubbed. She is a quick learner, very obedient, and she tries very hard to be a good girl. She does great with older kids that don't mind big paws, but she might be a little too rough with small children. She is still working on her house training, but she has very few accidents as long as she gets to go outside on a consistent schedule. This pup is nervous in new environments, so she'll need a loving and understanding family to help her feel loved and secure. Zooey is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, and current on Trifexis. She is fostered in Huntsville, AL, but is available for adoption in your area. You can fill out an application for Zooey here: http://forrescue.net/dog-application/ and her foster mom will be in touch!

      Location: Huntsville, AL
Posted Breed: Bull Terrier / Mixed. Brewster came to us in what could have been his final hours. He was in bad shape, and had to be carried in and out of the house. After being fed and loved a lot, he's a new man!! If you want an over sized lap dog, that cuddles on the couch and snuggles at night, he's your guy. If you need a buddy to ride around with, or keep you company on walks, Brewster is there. He gets along great with dogs once he gets to know them, but would need a slow introduction. He lives with several cats, and several dogs, and he is great with them. He is gentle around kids, and loves all humans. Brewster will do best in a home with no other dogs where he can the center of attention. Brewster is house broken and crate trained. He is extremely strong when walking him, so he needs someone with experience in teaching him not to pull, and will only go to an experienced bully breed owner. Fostered in Huntsville AL. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, hw negative and on prevention

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed. Say hello to BO! This beautiful girl has lots of energy and likes to run, but she is also VERY good had being lazy and snoozing/snoring/snuggling around the house. She can be quite inquisitive at times, so it’s best if she is kept from roaming the house while you are gone. Bo enjoys playing fetch with her rubber squeaky toy, but has been known to bring back a pinecone or even an entire log! Her quirky personality is such that she brings laughter to the home: from stealing cupcakes to sneaking pinecones into the house, this pup sure knows how to keep you on your toes. She enjoys rolling and romping in the snow and catching snowballs, and she likes to help with the cooking: mostly to sneak a taste of what you are making from the counter. Bo is housebroken and is good about letting you know when she needs to go outside. She LOVES to cuddle with her human and will curl up right beside you for an afternoon nap. She likes to watch movies about animals, and she loves squeaky toys, tug ropes, busy bones, and peanut butter! A fiercely loyal companion, Bo seeks to please her human in any way possible. She will always be ready to greet you with a sweeping tail wag and lots of kisses. Given the chance, this beautiful dog will steal your heart and give you hers in return. Bo is being fostered in Calhoun, Georgia. If you would like to meet her or get more information, email info@forrescue.net or fill out an application at www.forrescue.net. Bo can’t wait to meet you!

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Meet Gilligan! Gilligan is one of the Sitcom kids! He was born in foster care to a very pregnant mom that was rescued from a local shelter just one week before she gave birth. Gilligan is being raised with his mom, siblings, and other fosters on a farm setting with other dogs, barn cats, and horses! So far the cats have avoided all of the pups so we aren’t sure how interested he would be in them. He seemed to show slight interest in the horses, but safely stayed away. Gilligan looks like he attempted black eyeliner and eyebrows but instead just had fun playing with the color. He’s only got a touch of black around his eyes, mouth, and tail with a few polka dots on his white belly. The rest of him is evenly colored with white and tan. He weighs in at 13lbs at only 3 months, so we expect him to be a big boy when he’s finished growing. Though he is being fostered in North Alabama, he is available for adoption in your area. If you are interested in being Gilligan’s FORever family, apply here: http://forrescue.net/dog-application/

She’s the one of two in her litter that have almost solid brown coats. Breed: Pembroke Welsh Corgi-Rat Terrier Mix

      Age: Adult
      Location: Huntsville, AL
Posted Breed: Rat Terrier / Corgi / Mixed. DeeDee is a a very special girl. She is wonderful and needs an adopter who is very patient and understanding. She is gorgeous, calm, quiet, house trained, crate trained, rides great in the car, loves, loves other dogs, ignores cats, and is just an all around amazing girl. The catch is that DeeDee was not socialized with humans early in her life her life. It has taken some time for her to overcome her apprehension of people but now comes to her foster mom for petting and loving. DeeDee loves to go on walks and gets pretty excited when she sees the leash in my hand. She knows the commands wait, stay and sit. She is more of a timid and shy baby initially until she trusts you. She presently lives with my 3 other fosters who are pretty laid back and older. So she has been forced to be in a calm environment. She would love a playmate as when I have fostered younger dogs they would play and wrestle together continually. But alas my older dogs don't want to play. DeeDee is never underfoot but wants to be around her people. She often will stay on her bed, crate or sofa instead of being a true lap dog but she has moments when she does crave to be in your lap. She is crate trained and loves her crate. DeeDee is a gentle and reserved pup until she has had time to warm up. She is fine with children, adults and other dogs but she may hide in her crate initially until she feels comfortable with them and then venture out to see them. Her best friend here is Barney ( also listed for adoption) an 11 yr. old rat terrier/JRT and they explore and often relax with one another. DeeDee is definitely more active but has adapted beautifully to a low activity household. Loves her treats, chew toys, rawhides and bully sticks. She comes a-runnin' when ever she hears the treat bag. She would do best in a home with not a lot of loud activity (initially) just due to her shyness. She has never attempted to react when stressed but is the type of dog that retreats to her comfort zone and withdraws to her crate. She is a the kind of dog that can be in your home but is never obtrusive as she is able to be independent. I love her dearly and she may be slow to bond with her new family, so she would do best with someone who has patience. DeeDee could be best described as a dogs' dog as they are her best friends.Dee has been fostered with large and small dogs a loves them all. She doesn't exbibit any separation anxiety and isn't scared of storms either. She loves to run and zooms about when off leash. She would love a yard to explore as she is intrigued by wildlife. Her barking is minimal and usually at other animals/people when passing my home. As I stated before it may take a little time to earn her trust but she is well worth the time. Anyone who has spent any time with her can't help but fall in love. She is one adorable pup! DeeDee is currently fostered in Huntsville, Alabama. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, Rabies, micro chipped, and Heartworm negative. If you'd like more information about the adoption process please email info@FORrescue.net or apply directly online at http://forrescue.net/dog-application/ Once we receive your application we will forward it to her foster parents and they can tell you all about this adorable girl and arrange a meet and greet.

      Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male

      Location: Huntsville, AL
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Terrier / Mixed. Meet your new companion, Frankie! Frankie is a very loving and affectionate boy. He loves being with people and he loves meeting new people: he has never met a stranger. He gets along beautifully with other dogs and cats, as well as children, and ALL people. Although he is ten years old, Frankie is quite active, and he is 100% potty trained. At times he plays, briefly. He follows his foster family around the house as they move from room to room, he loves to keep current on what's going on with everyone :). He loves going outside and enjoys laying on the deck or grass, and he enjoys exploring a fenced in yard. Frankie loves going on walks every day and he does very well on the leash. His patella issues don't slow him down at all, and he loves going for car rides. He will sometimes chew on a rawhide chew stick but he hardly ever finishes one. He enjoys the tiny, mini dog biscuits as a treat. He's also very fond of peanut butter. He does not like being crated and he does fine outside of a crate at night and when no one is home. He usually sleeps on a dog bed or a chair when he takes his naps. He would love to have a lap to lay in. He doesn't like thunder. Although he doesn't shake with fear, he does stay very close during a storm. Frankie barks when he has a reason, such as another dog walking by our house. However, he doesn't bark excessively. Frankie's dream home would include someone who is home a lot. He is simply a wonderful boy who will make someone a loving and devoted companion! Frankie is fully vaccinated, he has had a dental, he is neutered and microchipped. He is also heartworm negative and current on trifexis. Fill out an app for him here: http://forrescue.net/dog-application/ or email info@FORrescue.net!
