Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed. Piggy is available for foster or adoption. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! Piggy is currently fostered in Gainesville. Piggy, loves, loves, LOVES humans! She is a low energy dog and is happiest when resting at your feet. She gets playful at times but, as an older girl, she doesn't need to be exercised or amused. She enjoys being let out into the fenced-in backyard a few times a day but within a few minutes she comes right back to the door. She is most content when she is with people. Piggy aims to please. She will go into her crate when asked; simply say 'Piggy, in your fort' and she walks right in. She is the most polite treat-taker you'll ever meet. Piggy has a luxated kneecap that makes her back leg unstable so she sometimes avoids using it while running. It doesn't bother her at all, causes her no pain, and doesn't slow her down one bit. *** Piggy would really enjoy a quiet home with humans of her very own but can successfully live with other dogs. The perfect adopter would know how to slowly and properly introduce her to the pack. Piggy is currently living with four other dogs ranging from 10 to 45 pounds and is doing well, but slow introductions are vital. *** Like most rescue dogs, Piggy has a story. Piggy was confiscated as part of a hoarding case and was kept in a local shelter for 1 year and 7 days before she was able to be taken into rescue. Because Piggy spent so long in a shelter she used to be reactive when meeting new dogs. Piggy spent the summer going to class to learn how to properly introduce herself. She has done amazing but can still be dog-selective. Because of this we recommend that Piggy go to a home with a yard or to someone who lives in a community where Piggy can be safely leash-walked without fear of encountering a free-roaming dog. Piggy would thrive in a household without other dogs as she doesn't mind being an 'only child' because that just means more attention for her. More pictures can be viewed at http://bit.ly/1RQBSY1

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Age: Young
      Location: Bradenton, FL
Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Australian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Alice is available for foster or adoption. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! Alice is currently fostered in Casselberry (near Orlando). Alice is a heeler/Aussie mix with lots of potential. She is a year old and medium-sized at 40 lbs. Alice has a moderate energy level for her breed mix. She just wants a person of her own to love, and she will love you with all of her heart. She gets along with other dogs, is housetrained and crate trained and knows how to use a doggy door. Alice is also cat- and kid-tested and approved. Alice loves walks, and going to the dog park. She loves to run and chase other dog friends. She is smart and has a very expressive face - her whole body smiles and wags with joy when she's happy to see her people. Alice does have herding tendencies, so she needs a family that understands this. Alice is spayed, all of her vaccinations are current and she is heartworm negative and getting monthly flea and heartworm prevention.

Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Lillie is available for foster or adoption. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! Lillie is currently fostered in Longwood (near Orlando). Lillie is a young girl at 3 years old, approximately 30 pounds, and our best guess is that she is a red heeler mixed with a rat terrier. Lillie is one of the sweetest dogs her foster parents have ever met. She loves people very much, and gets very excited for attention. Her favorite activities include playing with other dogs, playing with toys, and cuddling/giving kisses. Overall Lillie is a goofy fun dog! Lillie came to the rescue with limited training, but in the past couple of months she has come a long way. Typical for the breed she has a lot of energy, and will need a home that can give her ample stimulation. She has been going on longer walks, and has been doing very well. She also loves spending time in the backyard exploring and running. She has also learned several basic commands, and is crate trained. She is motivated by positive reinforcement and food. She is house trained and gives you signals when she is ready to use the restroom. Lillie has no aggression (food, toy, etc.) and is very social with our two dogs. If she is in a multiple dog household it is recommended that she is with younger/playful dogs. She has also learned a healthy respect for cats, and her interactions with kids have been very positive. She would be a great dog for an active person or family. Please contact us for additional information or to schedule a meeting.

Posted Breed: Bluetick Coonhound / Beagle / Mixed (short coat). Tiki is available for foster or adoption. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! Tiki is currently fostered in Bradenton. Tiki is a fun, petite and high-energy girl who we saved from death row at Sebring AC. She was there by no fault of her own. She's about 1.5 years old and 33 lbs. Tiki is a sweet girl who loves to sit in your lap and give kisses. She is learning commands, and her manners have vastly improved in foster care. She has an excellent "sit, stay" and will not try to run out the door. Tiki has tons of drive - she has been to lure coursing and is an absolute fiend for it. She is wicked fast and has excellent focus on her handler. She would excel at dock diving, disc, barn hunt, nosework, and flyball too, and is ideally looking for a performance home, even if it means just taking some classes and spending weekends flush with activity. The sky really is the limit as far as her abilities. Her recall is quite good for a hound and she can be called off a lure during coursing. Tiki would also love to go on hikes, runs, and to the beach. Please no young kids for this girl - she loves everyone and her love might be too overwhelming for little ones. Tiki needs a home with a fenced yard, ideally a privacy fence as she is athletic enough to jump a 4' fence. And yes, she does love to sleep on the couch and cuddle in her free time! The off switch is strong with this one. Tiki is heartworm negative, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and prevention, and microchipped. She will be having her stitches out on 2/28 and will be ready for adoption then! Please get in touch if you're interested in Tiki. She truly is an excellent dog.

He has excellent manners and does great out on the town! He LOVES to play and fetch with his toys. Sammy is crate trained, sweet as can be and really fairly calm. He will benefit from obedience classes and some leash work, as any dog would, but he is so smart he will go to head of the class in seconds flat! Sam can sleep in the bed or in a crate at night. He is doing well on his house training and will let you know when he needs to go out. Sam has high toy drive and loves to bring back his toy so you can throw it for him again. He loves other dogs and would do best with another canine companion!! Loves to be with you! He has an off switch, he is good in public, and is not over-the-top out on the town! No issues crating while I am at work. Has no guarding issues, and thinks everyone is his friend. Sam will remain small - he is probably 30 lbs or just under. Rides well in the car. We will test for swimming skills. Great active small friend for jogging, hiking or even a biking companion.

      Location: Bradenton, FL
Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Pointer / Mixed (short coat). Clyde is available for foster or adoption. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! Clyde is currently fostered in Bradenton. Clyde needs a dog-savvy person that has worked with semi-feral dogs before. He can be fearful of people. He will come along with you as long as he is on lead, and will allow petting on lead. We are working with him with touch and massage to allay his fears. He needs a calm quiet atmosphere, a couple other kind dogs, a fenced yard and a loving, patient person to work with him. He is very rehabitable. Food-motivated. Crate trained, yes, that is his sanctuary and safe place. He is getting on the bed, plays with the other dogs. He is curious about all the new surroundings, which is a good thing. If there is someone out there that would like to work with him, it would be a very rewarding experience for both you and the pup. He retreats readily to loud voices and corrections not meant for him but in his vicinity. He can sense a bad day at work and retreat until your mood has changed. He is exceptional at reading people and thus may be with training a good candidate for esd once he has a calm, steady environment. That is the goal for him now. If you are willing to foster this boy please let us know, he needs to move forward. We need the right person. He is a lovely smart boy and willing to please.
