Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Hi, I’m Alexi, the sweetest Pit Bull you will ever meet! I am loving, friendly and enjoy the company of other dogs who are easygoing like me. Do you know what I love even more than my furry friends? Humans! I adore them and love all the affection I can get… and I have no problem giving it back! I like treats like cheese and chicken and I love going on car rides with my people. I enjoy a good nap but I like being outside too. In fact, when the weather is nice, you might find me outdoors sunbathing! One of my favorite things to do is go to doggy daycare. I’m really popular there, if I do say so myself. I’ve already made lots of friends there! While I’m a superstar at daycare, I really shine at home too. I am crate trained (I love it in there!), housebroken and I'm learning to walk well on a leash. My foster parents were told I am seven years old but they think I may be between 5 and 7. I may be older but I still have a lot of life and, more importantly, a lot of love to give. I am a sweet, special dog who would love nothing more than to find a forever home for my golden years! I'm famous! I was featured on CW33's Ruff Life. Check it out here: http://cw33.com/2016/03/29/ruff-life-alexias-ready-for-her-day-in-the-sun/ All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Roussel

      Breed: Poodle (Miniature)-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Dallas, TX
Posted Breed: Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed. Meet Roussel! Or "Roo" for short, since his bark sounds more like "rooo roooo roooo" instead of a normal bark. This poodle is an older guy - he's around 11 years old. He's living in a foster home where he can get some much needed quiet times, since he can get a little anxious. (At 11 years old, who can blame him!?) Roo is house trained and good with other dogs and cats, as long as they give him his space. He can't see anymore, so he gets nervous if there's potential to get stepped on. He's also a strong-willed guy, so he enjoys pets on the head, but only on his terms. Once he gets to know his people, he lets his quirky personality show. Roo's safe space is his big, soft bed, which is where he goes to decompress and relax. He also loves his foster's bedroom, so once he gets in there he's happy to roll around and play. Roo's ideal home is one without kids, due to his anxiety. He would do great in a home with older owners who have lots of quiet time and patience to help him through his nervous spells. Roo's best qualities are his loving personality and his penchant for relaxing! He enjoys being a couch potato...could you find room on your couch for him? Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Looking for a best buddy? Someone to follow you around the house or just to be near you? Maybe someone you can have long conversations with and really feel like he gets you on a deeper level? Then check out Skip! Skip is a super laid back dude, with a dash of silly at times, who just wants to be part of the family and please you. He will even let you dress him up in hats and costumes! He is very polite, asking nicely with his soulful doggy eyes if he can please sit with you on the couch. He’s mastered the art of rearranging loose pillows which has earned him the nickname of “Couch Monster”. Skip is potty trained, crate trained (although it's not really needed), doggy door trained, and does well on a leash. He may not know a lot of commands, but he is very good at reading your intent and what you want him to do - and he falls into new routines with ease. He is active and loves getting out and about on walks, but doesn’t need a crazy amount of exercise to be happy. Skip loves other dogs. When he first meets them, especially if he is on a leash, he can come across as a bit cautious - but within a couple of minutes he is more relaxed with a full tail wag. He does exceptionally well with small dogs! Skip has even had a dog bark right in his face, and he just let him! Soon after they were playing together. As good as he is with other dogs, Skip does not do well with cats and needs to go to a kitty-free home. Does Skip sound like the perfect pup for you? He sure would like to meet you! Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Al Green! This two-year-old pup is a complete goofball with an enormous capacity for cuddles and affection. He is a beautiful blue pittie boy, who appears to possibly have some Great Dane in him based on his long, broad snout. He is currently living in a foster home with many other pups as he patiently waits for his forever family to discover him. Al appears to have had a rough life before he was taken in by his wonderful fosters. He was rescued from the local shelter where he came in as a stray. Despite this, he is a very sweet dog who is crate trained, house trained and leash trained. Al actually enjoys his crate time, and will have no problem sleeping in there or hanging out while his family isn’t home. He's not a big fan of cats or other male dogs, so he would prefer a home without them. What he loves more than anything is snuggles with his humans – and a good nylabone to chew on. Think you could be the furever family Mr. Green has been looking for? Apply today! All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Tiva has never met a stranger, only future friends. She loves all people, kids and other dogs. She loves to play and run hard, then sleeps even harder. Tiva loves to snuggle on the sofa and play with her stuffed toys, she especially adores chew hoofs. She always has a big, goofy puppy grin on her face. Tiva had a ruff life before DPA found her as a young puppy. She had been shot & had trauma to her front left leg that makes her have a cute, frog hop when she runs, but that doesn't slow her down a bit. Tiva is currently fostered in a home with children and cats, so we think with proper introductions she could thrive around both. She is both crate & house trained. Think this is the young girl you've been looking for? Apply to adopt Tiva today :) All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption. Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. This spotted beauty is Zephyr! She’s a 3 year old female Pitbull, who has never met a stranger! She is the happiest girl, who just loves people and the human connection. She’s a strong girl with a gentle spirit, who has all the wonderful qualities one looks for in a pup! Zephyr is housetrained but fears crates, which could stem from her negative past. The good news is that she won’t go potty in the house, and she also won’t damage things in the house. She is very trainable and learns fast. She enjoys playing with other dogs, and trips to the dog park…she even loves the car ride there! She has done well around kids, as well as cats. Zephyr will need a home that can provide daily walks or runs and/or a backyard. She is calm but energetic, depending on her stimuli. A home with another dog or 2 would be great, as she tends to interact better one-on-one with other dogs. Wouldn’t you love to welcome this sweet girl into your home? Stella is good with other dogs and cats, and walks well on leash. Stella is very affectionate, but reserved with her actions. She will love to rest her head on your lap and stare into your eyes. She isn’t shy and greets others warmly. Stella will love to lie next to you on the sofa, and she is the perfect companion for a good night of deep sleep. Because of her lower activity level, Stella may do better in a more low-key setting. She is a calm, loving, and soulful animal who is in need of a little love and human companionship. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Say hello to Yui! Her name means "one and only" in Japanese, and anyone who's met her can tell you that that is absolutely true! She's a one-year-old lab/pit bull mix and is loving life in a great foster home. But she's also excited to find her forever family. Yui's foster mom says she's a wonderfully friendly pup. She loves playing with her temporary siblings - dogs and cats both! She also loves people, so she's very generous with hugs and kisses. She is crate trained and walks well on a leash. She's a ready-made family dog! Yui's perfect home would be one that can handle her energy. She's a very enthusiastic girl who may not always realize her size. A home with older kids would be good. She would love to have other dogs to pal around with - and a family who's devoted to giving her lots of love and attention. She very much wants to be a part of the family. So, do you think you could extend your family to include the "one and only" Yui? All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption.
