Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). A big boy, low with wide shoulders CoCo is a good dog that just wants to have fun. He is a big boy that is friendly and happy and loves to be part of the family. He is always ready to go on a walk and go exploring for new scents. He likes to play with the female dogs in the play yard, and gets along well with select male dogs in the pack. He likes to investigate new territory and is basically a quiet dog. He is crate trained and sleeps inside at night. He loves dog cookies and will follow commands for a treat. I do not know how he would be with children, but I would recommend, due to his size, that he not be around small children. He needs a fenced yard and needs adults that understand the breed. He just wants an owner that will give him time and attention. Potential adopter(s) must have a knowledge and respect for this type of dog, and know the bully breed's characteristics, care and supervision needed, and accept responsibility to protect him from other dogs and to give him a calm, supervised, happy life. He is neutered, micro-chipped, on heartworm preventive, and up to date on shots. Please contact us if you are interested in CoCo. We do a security home check as well as check references. We are near Sherman, TX. We would love for him to find his forever home. Contact us if you would like to meet him. Thanks!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). An energetic boy who loves to play! JESSE is a handsome, loyal and fun loving dog that loves to play fetch. He enjoys long walks on leash, and especially loves to come into the house for family time. JESSE is muscular and sleek and is a beautiful color. He could be part Weimaraner due to his color and physique. We do not know how he is with children or cats, but due to his large size, we recommend older children in the family. He seems to be selective of other dogs, and he would probably be best as the only dog. He is especially attached to his crate, as that is his safe space. We believe he had to live in a crate most of his life. But now that he is free, he enjoys being outside or in the house. He is very fond of us already. We saved him from euthanasia in a small town shelter. He just completed heartworm treatment and is doing very well. He is microchipped, up to date on shots and neutered. We do not know his exact age but believe he is 4 or 5 years old. Jesse needs a fenced yard. He can climb a chain link fence so a privacy fence would work best for him. JESSE would make a great watch dog because he barks at people he does not know. We are in the Sherman, Tx area and should you wish to meet him, just contact me. If you apply to adopt him we will do a home safety check as well as check references. We want to make sure JESSE gets the right family. If you have any questions about Jesse, please contact me. Our email is Thank you for considering Jesse.
