Posted Breed: Weimaraner / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). SHEILA - Dallas 2 yr old gray female Hello! My name is SHEILA, and I am a beautiful gray Weimaraner mix. I love all people, especially kids. I get along well with other dogs, but need a slow introduction. I would do best in a home with another dog to help keep me company and give me confidence. I am house trained and even taught myself how to use a doggy door. I don't like the crate, so I prefer to only be in it for short periods of time. My ideal home would have another dog and would work with me obedience as well as making sure I have a good outlet for my energy. Would you consider giving me a forever home? Please ask about SHEILA when you contact Weimaraner Rescue of North Texas. For donations, please make your check payable to: Weimaraner Rescue of North Texas, Inc. 4347 W. Northwest Hwy, Suite 130, Box 184 Dallas, TX 75220 Phone: (972) 994-3572 www.WeimRescueTexas.org We gratefully accept donations of any amount to help our beautiful gray & blue friends in need. We are an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization. Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law. Our rescue Weimaraners are current on all vaccinations and heartworm preventative. They are spayed or neutered, and micro-chipped or tattooed and registered with Tattoo-A-Pet. The adoption donation is $300.00 for adult Weimaraners, $350.00 for puppies, and $200.00 for seniors, special needs dogs and Weimaraner-mix dogs.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Meet Stella, a 7 yeard old, blue female. She gives new meaning to the word ‘velcro’. At about 60 pounds she still thinks she is a tiny lap dog. She wants to be touching you when she settles down on the couch or bed. I think it will be difficult to convince her to stay off the furniture or bed. I can see her being a sneaky weim girl that waits for you to sleep and slips in right beside you. She is doing really well with her four legged foster brother. However, I do see alpha tendencies. She would need to meet her prospective new four-legged family members to make sure she approves. She would be fine as an only dog receiving all the attention as well. She is a bit timid of loud noises so older children would be best for this girl. She does not like to be kenneled when you leave. She has done fine left out in the house with doors closed and kitchen items picked up. She is very food motivated. She would be more than happy to take food from your hands if you are not paying attention. Please ask about STELLA when you contact Weimaraner Rescue of Texas. For donations, please make your check payable to: Weimaraner Rescue of Texas, Inc. 4347 W. Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Meet Oakley, a young looking 6 year old , 55lb grey male. The calmest dog you have ever known. He gets along with all 3 foster siblings. Loves everyone he meets but can be timid until he knows you, then he will not leave your side. Oakley does everything slowly apart from eating. He finally figured out how to use the dog door, for several weeks he was really scared of it. He sleeps on the bed at night with his two Weim sisters and occasionally you will find him taking a nap during the day on the bed. His energy level is very low but the last couple of days he has been running around the yard as his Heartworm treatment is complete. Oakley is house trained, has never used a crate, due to the fact that he is fine in the house when left alone. Oakley needs a family that will be willing to work on training him, as he knows no commands other than sit, and he does it begrudgingly. He loves affection and will be there every time you want to give him love and attention. Please ask about OAKLEY when you contact Weimaraner Rescue of Texas. Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Meet Russ, a gray three year old male who loves everyone he meets. He is the most loving Weimaraner you will ever meet! He lives to love you and every stranger he encounters at home. He can however be intimidated by other dogs if they display aggression, but has learned to adapt with his Chihuahua roommate. If you’re looking for a companion, look no further than Russ. He enjoys cuddling, taking walks, and trying to grab a snack or two off the counter when he thinks no one is looking. He is leash trained and enjoys car rides with the people he loves. ~~ Please ask about RUSS when you contact Weimaraner Rescue of Texas. CHANCE - Hou...

      Breed: Weimaraner
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Dallas, TX
Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Meet Chance, he is a stocky handsome 8 year old male Weim with a heart of gold. This quiet boy was surrendered to Rescue by his owners. He had to have a large fatty tumor removed from under his front leg and had to undergo treatment for heartworms, but that's behind him now and he's eager to find a forever family to love. He is definitely a very smart boy. When he arrived he had some anxiety and trust issues. He's a strong alpha dog, so it took time for him to adjust to a multi-Weim home, but he and his foster dog brother get along fine now. Chance is very low-maintenance and craves affection. He's housebroken and crate trained, knows basic commands, has been allowed to roam the house but prefers to enjoy the quiet of his crate with the door open. He has been allowed to sit on the couch and watch TV with his foster family, and occasionally has been allowed to sleep in bed with his foster family. He loves playing with tennis balls! He gained a few pounds during his inactive period but he's started losing now with light exercise. Because of his dominant alpha personality, he's going to need his new family to continue to provide structure and firm guidance. He would be happiest if he were the only dog in his forever home, or his family needs to give him some time to adjust and find his place with another dog his size. Also, he is not good with small animals, such as smaller dogs, cats, etc.. so he needs a no kids/no cats home. Despite his macho personality, he is afraid of loud noises, such as fireworks or thunderstorms; once you calm and reassure him, he feels safe and his anxiety goes away. Chance is waiting to join his new forever family and complete his rescue journey to happiness. Please ask about CHANCE when you contact Weimaraner Rescue of Texas. For donations, please make your check payable to: Weimaraner Rescue of Texas, Inc. 4347 W. TANGO - Tyle...

      Location: Dallas, TX
Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Meet Tango, a gray male who turned 4 this March and has been living the life of ease with his foster family. As easy as life is with a family with three crazy children and lots of friends over! One of the crazies is a 3 year old boy that "hugs" him each time he sees him, uses him as a pillow to watch movies and gets in his face since they are eye to eye often. Then we have to mention the 10 year old girl who likes to walk him around the neighborhood and show off his good looks and lock him in her room so she can dress him up. Finally there is the 11 year old who thinks Tango should just suit up in wrestling gear because that is all these two do! Oh, but we can't forget the foster mom who takes him for 5 am runs ranging anywhere between 3-9 miles. Call it what you want - life or ease or an avalanche of chaos. Either way he would fit in both environments nicely. Whether he has gone for a run or slept in he is going to lay around the house most of the day. No crate is need while he lounges, he has not damaged a thing or done any counter surfing during his year stay with his foster family. However he is crate trained if you prefer that, but he pouts when you tell him to go to his kennel. Tango came into foster care with his brother (a domineering boy who liked to hog all the attention). Therefore his confidence was very low. He has improved tremendously, however, he is very slow to warm up to other dogs. Not to say he won't. He has become best friends with his labrodoodle foster brother. They love to play tug of war. Tango can possess this timid behavior with other things as well (i.e. strangers, tile floors, sprinklers, and loud cars passing while on a walk/run. Keep in mind how rewarding it is to see your family members overcome these difficulties and earn trust in you and his new environment. Congenial follicular keratosis, try saying that three times fast! Congenial follicular keratosis is a condition Tango was born with presenting itself on his face. Additional flaky spots are seen on his elbows and knees. There is no known cure, but the good news is it is purely cosmetic! Tango's life will not be hurt or shortened due to this. It does not lead to any other conditions later in life. There are no known cures although 1 vitamin A capsule 800mg a day has improved the look of things by 30 percent. If you are going to have something this is an easy thing to deal with. The rescue has all the doctor documenting and foster family is willing to answer any questions you have regarding this issue. We have shed many tears watching this boy coming into his self! Please ask about TANGO when you contact Weimaraner Rescue of Texas. For donations, please make your check payable to: Weimaraner Rescue of Texas, Inc. 4347 W. Northwest Hwy, Suite 130, Box 184 Dallas, TX 75220 Phone: (972) 994-3572 www.weimrescuetexas.org We gratefully accept donations of any amount to help our beautiful gray & blue friends in need. Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). NELLY - Austin 5 yr old gray female Hi there! I am NELLY, a beautiful gray Weimaraner. I am a sweet girl who loves nothing more than to be loved on and rubbed on. Well, okay, my other favorite activity is chasing squirrels in the backyard. But, that is a close second to being loved on and petted. I am potty trained and get along well with kids. I do not get along with small dogs, but ones my size are just fine. I came into rescue with several lumps that looked like bad news to the vet. I had surgery (see my cone of shame picture?) to remove them and test them. The tests revealed that I had mast cell cancer and removal of those lumps mean removal of most of the cancer. I might have more lumps show up later in my life, but with medication and a watchful eye on my lumps, I can have many great years ahead of me. Especially if I find my forever family. My ideal family would continue to work with me on learning how to walk properly on a leash and also be willing to teach me many other cool things since I am a smart girl. They would also keep an eye on my health as I get older. Another dog in the family is a must for me as well. Would you consider giving me a forever home? Please ask about NELLY when you contact Weimaraner Rescue of Texas. For donations, please make your check payable to: Weimaraner Rescue of Texas, Inc. 4347 W. Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Miracle is a real sweetie! She came into rescue overweight, with mast cell tumors, fatty tumors, weak hips, and a toenail that grew straight up. After three surgeries and a dedicated weight loss regimen, she is ready to go. She has lost 20 pounds, lost a toe, lost all the mast cell tumors, and has been diagnosed with a minor thyroid issue that is treatable with medication. She has her bounce back! Miracle (Mia for short) is low-key, but is definitely food motivated. She will sit at your feet and let you know it is time to eat...sometimes trying to move dinner time up a little bit! Otherwise, she likes a soft bed wherever her people are, walks, ear scratches, and definitely naps. She has not attempted to get on the furniture in her foster home and is happy sleeping on her bed in the bedroom beside her foster mom. She is house-trained, crate-trained, and is good with kids and dogs. Unknown about cats, but she doesn't seem interested in the squirrels in the yard. Mia deserves a good home that will appreciate her laid back, undemanding style. She is a loyal, loving companion. Posted Breed: Weimaraner (short coat). Gus is a handsome, gray Weimaraner with the most soulful eyes you'll ever see. This sweet boy had a rough life before coming into rescue and needs a routine, therapeutic environment to learn how to trust again. He already knows how to love, and will give it generously once you have gained his trust. The way Gus shows his fear is that he runs...he can be quite the escape artist. This can be remedied by taking him outside on a leash to do his business and then bringing him back inside. If you have a secure yard, Gus has learned how to use a doggy door, but he has been known to dig out, so it would need to be very secure. When spoken to, Gus will wag his little nub tail to let you know how much he is soaking in the attention. He is also a big fan of belly rubs. Gus will need another dog in his new home to show him how to trust and learn the ropes of living in a household. Gus's ideal family will be patient and gentle, and willing to overcome his fears and challenges, and with this sweet boy the rewards will be great. For more information about Gus, please fill out an application on our website.
