Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Australian Kelpie / Mixed. Morgan (Watch my video!) was adopted from when she was a puppy in Dec. 2009 but now she needs a new home due to her guardian new life long work hours and changes. She is beautiful and very smart. Morgan prefers people over other dogs. Very friendly and happy to meet new people. She needs someone around more (anxious if left home alone) and continue with leadership training. Morgan will sit and down for treats. Good on leash but needs guidance when sees other new dogs since she may react and bark but will listen to corrections and training. No cats will want to chase. With proper introductions she is ok around other dogs she knows and currently lives in a home with another dog but they don't play. She needs daily exercise and perhaps will benefit from a fun sport dog training since she is athletic. Morgan can jump a fence so needs to be supervised while in yard. However she only jumps the fence to follow her guardian. Morgan does play ball but currently does not return the ball. She needs a person to train her to drop ball and play fetch. Looking for an experienced adult home.YouTube: http://youtu.be/mF5tanMlGWU

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

At our vet he was nervous but warmed up to vet for exam. Now up front in his cage and friendly. Quiet and enjoys his walks. Mison is sweet and adorable. Excited with change and will bark in crate when no one is home. He is not use to crates but learning. Need time to learn from experienced dog guardians. He needs more exercise at doggie day care socials and learn dog manners (not to dog play hump which usually subsides in a few days or week of play/corrections). Named after the handsome nice actor Tom Mison. Update 4/17/17: Mison was doing great at a doggie day care. Very dog social. Now crate trained. Loves his long walks. He had kennel cough and resting at his foster home with no other dog. Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed. We were Calvin's last hope at the shelter where he was stressed and very nervous barking from his cage. Once out he was nervous but over time he warmed up to our volunteer and took treats. He then wanted to stick with her and sit on her lap for comfort. After he trusted us he was very social happy and excited with other dogs. Once he feels safe he relaxes. Calvin needs a very experienced adult foster home to train and socialize him so that more of his true personality can come out. UPDATE: At our vet boarding and volunteer visits he is now doing great. Quiet in cage run til he sees someone friendly loves his walks and vet tech brushed/cut off matts with no issues. He now feels safe and friendly. UPDATE in Foster Home: Calvin is doing great and now dog friendly. He loves his walks and social. He does well with dogs larger then him. bonding very quickly/well their dog and kids/teens (dog saavy). They play all day & night long. Calvin is a total lap dog who loves to be held and belly rubs. He's a sweetie! He needs an experienced home to guide and continue his training.

Posted Breed: Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed. The Jurassic World litter were abandoned at a crowded shelter. We rescued them when they had no time/options left to save their lives. All were nervous but sweet. At our vet office they are happy and friendly with their staff for attention food and walks. Update from Foster Home: Bouncy is thriving at her foster home. She is a happy active girl who loves daily walks visits to the dog park and an evening of watching TV on her human's lap. Bouncy may be shy at first but warms up quickly and is enthusiastic affectionate loving snuggly playful and a wonderful companion. She would be happiest in a home with a moderately active companion dog and a quiet predictable home. Children 12 yrs and older as sudden movement and noise may frighten her.

Posted Breed: Maltese / Mixed. 7/8/2017: Update from foster home: Zeke has come along way. 7 months ago he was so starved you could feel his ribs and hip bones. He was very fearful of people would bark at them. No big dogs for Zeke (little dog syndrome). Zeke is now used to people coming in and out of the house not so fearful of foster home's husband anymore will climb up and give him a kiss. It's taken him a long time to trust but with his abusive last home that is what is expected with these dogs. Loves his little squeaky toys (doesn't squeak them) just loves to carry around the house and when done carries them inside his kennel. Kind of a little toy hoarder. He also loves playing with his foster home's little dog. Very adorable personality. Zeke would be great in a home as an only dog or with another small female companion. He will bond to the female quicker and may take time to warm up to a male in the home. Ezekiel needs to learn that he is safe and feels loved. He will need an experienced adult home. No kids.
