Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd (medium coat). Lyric is in need of a foster home (or ideally adopter!) Lyric is a 1.5yo, 25lb miniature Australian Shepherd. He is an energetic and curious little dude. He gets along with cats and dogs. Although he's ok with other dogs, he may do best as an only dog. He's housebroken, cratetrained, and he walks well on leash, likes to go for hikes and take in all the smells. He likes to give his person hugs and snuggles, and LOVES to play with toys and fetch. Lyric was born deaf but he is super smart and learned to sit, down, shake, and spin with hand signals. Lyric is a fun and sweet, perfect-sized companion. Check out his video! https://youtu.be/caukaLdXNXk Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com or fill out the adoption application: http://www.theperfectdog.org/TPDadoptapp.doc

More About Australian Shepherd Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Are you a single lady lookin for a loyal man in your life? Look no further! Lenny is a 1.5yo 6-7lb Chihuahua. He may be small, but he's got the biggest personality! He's very driven and wants to please. He's super smart, very food motivated, and a rockstar in training. You could teach this guy anything. He gets along with other dogs and cats, but he does act as the play police and would be happiest in a home as an only dog. He is awesome with people he knows, but can be a little insecure with new people, so new people should go slow with him to build his confidence and trust. He is cratetrained and mostly housebroken. This guy walks great on leash, struts his stuff with confidence. If you're looking for a rockstar portable pup to go on many adventures with, Lenny is your man! Lenny is currently enrolled at a training program through Unchained at San Jose Juvenile Hall and will be ready for adoption after March 8. In this awesome program, he is learning basic obedience (sit, down, stay, come, loose leash walking, leave it) as well as fun tricks and other skills! Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Lars is a 1yo 65lb German Shepherd (maybe with a dash of husky?) who looks, acts, and moves like a pure shepherd but is solid blonde! Lars gets along great with other dogs and cats. He is crate trained, working on housebreaking, and rides well in the car. He is great with people he knows and trusts, but he is shy of new people and aloof of strangers (typical shepherd). Due to this, he should go to an adult only home. He can be vocal and dramatic, but he's also a goober, doesn't know his size, and is a total velcro dog to his person. Lars is currently enrolled at a training program through Unchained at San Jose Juvenile Hall and will be ready for adoption after March 8. In this awesome program, he is learning basic obedience (sit, down, stay, come, loose leash walking, leave it) as well as fun tricks and other skills! Lars' adoption is $400. Breed: Doberman Pinscher

      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Doberman Pinscher (short coat). Dino is a young (~10 month old) charming and active, small (50lb) Doberman pup. He’s a sweet, shy boy who tries really hard and learns quickly with his trusted people. Despite his breed, passive Dino is the opposite of a protection candidate, but is very alert and barks appropriately. Dino came from a sheltered and restricted background so he is just now learning about the world of leashes, cars, new people, and new dogs. He does form strong bonds with his humans and is very treat motivated so he should catch up quickly. He could potentially live with cats although he has not been tested, or a tolerant dog companion. We would not recommend him with small children or in a noisy, active household, even though he’s such a sweet baby. He really needs attention to be focused on him to help him become the amazing companion he’s meant to be. Dino is housebroken, neutered, and up to date on shots. His favorite gait is a gorgeous floating trot, so he (with some kind practice and confidence boosting) would make an excellent running companion. Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Hi! I'm Oliver! Do you have some cheese? Oliver is as smart as they come!! Maybe as smart as his foster mom's ever seen. This is a 7 month old small mixed breed pup who just wants to please you. The sky is the limit for him. He has eyes that simply smolder and will win you over in a matter of minutes. He’s currently in an active foster care home with 4 other dogs and 4 cats. Oliver learned quickly to respect cats and it only took 1 chase to know that the cats are in charge!! He plays well with the other dogs, respects their space, and loves chasing tennis balls. He brings all his toys to bed, but will make space for a cat or dog who wants to snuggle. He has springs in his legs and loves to fetch. He will sit and wait for you to throw his toy and eagerly bring it back to you over and over again! Oliver is crate trained, potty trained and knows when it's meal time (he will bring his bowl to you if you forget to feed him!) He does need to go to an adult only (teenagers ok) home, please no young children! Oliver does have stranger fear issues he still needs to work through. He’s great on a leash and is learning to enjoy car rides! He LOVES to cuddle up in a blanket at night and watch a movie with you. This is a puppy that will be a best friend for life. Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Senior Special Needs Dog Looking for a Special Someone Shelby is a 10-year old Pitbull who wants nothing but to lay down with someone and have her belly rubbed. This very sweet girl will give special someone great companionship. She loves to eat and loves to go for an easy walk. When first rescued 3 years ago she was nothing but skin and bones, her previous owner brought her back from a brink of death. But unfortunately, she recently lost a house and was no longer able to care for Shelby. I am fostering her but she does not get along with my 2 dogs and is having to stay alone in a room during the day while I am at work. She is diabetic and because of it cannot see very well. Her diabetes is now well under control by twice daily insulin shots. She is a strong and happy dog who shows no sign of slowing down, but because of her age and condition we are not sure how long she has left. We would like her to be in a loving home where she can be with someone all the time. Please contact Yuki at yukikawahara@hotmail.com for more info on Shelby! Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Ivy is a 2-3yo pit mix who only weighs 40lbs. She's a very sweet, timid, and docile girl who is a poet at heart and needs the countryside quiet to keep her soul at peace and comfort. The busy city life can scare and overwhelm her, so please no apartments or crazy children running around. She does well with big and little dogs (proper intros, of course!) and has paid no mind to kitty cats. She will snuggle up to mellow dogs that just want to hang out. For someone with a patient heart and lots of love to give, Ivy more than repays that kindness once she feels safe and accepted. She's crate trained and housebroken. This girl is available for adoption through The Perfect Dog rescue - which makes sense, because though quite the introvert, this little navy bean is, indeed, the perfect dog ❤️ Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com or fill out the adoption application: http://www.theperfectdog.org/TPDadoptapp.doc

Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat). Achilles is a 9yo cattledog mix who came into the shelter as an owner-surrender in early 2015. He has the gentle, kind soul of a medium-sized dog who has unfortunately been through many homes recently through no fault of his own. Because of this, Achilles is a little slow to warm up to new people but is interested and does bond with you after just a few days. He will reward you with a little happy dance and some "stump-waggin'" whenever he sees you! All this guy really needs is a comfy corner spot in a stable quiet home environment again! Achilles is fully housebroken, crate-trained, treat motivated, good on leash, tolerant of other dogs, and a quiet companion. He just wants to be near his people again so would be happiest in a home with a full-time caretaker. Achilles is being fostered with a number of large dogs and a 14yo child. He can get a bit overwhelmed by a lot of noisy living so would blossom best in a home with a retired couple to dote on him again. Achilles has been in rescue since 2/18/2015 and would really like to find his forever home to live out the rest of his golden years! Roger

      rescue
      Breed: Australian Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Terrier / Jack Russell Terrier (Parson Russell Terrier) / Mixed. ** PLEASE READ HIS DESCRIPTION BEFORE CALLING/APPLYING! ** His super cute looks are deceiving! Roger is a "project dog"! Which means he will need on-going training and is ONLY available to an SF Bay Area experienced, sport dog home. Roger is a 6 year old, 10lb Australian Terrier/Jack Russell mix, and this guy is ALL terrier!! (His personality is probably closest to that of a Jack Russell) He loves to play with other small dogs, is good with cats (although sometimes he wants to play with them if they run). He LOVES to play (can’t say this enough), and he is very high energy. He has learned a handful of tricks (is a titled Advanced Trick Dog), and he competes in USDAA Agility (with two titles already- SPS and PD)!, so he must go to a home that can continue dog sports with him, and keep him very active, both mentally and physically. He’s like the energizer bunny, and he is one of the smartest dogs we have ever met, scary smart! He does also love to snuggle with his person and give kisses. He’s crate-trained and housebroken. His only issue (besides his energy and intelligence level) is *fear aggression toward strangers* (will bite if a stranger approaches, reaches their hand for/toward him, or spooks him), but with lots of patience, management, training (counter conditioning), and carefully monitored socialization, his fear has decreased, but it may never go completely away, so you can never let your guard down with him. He has gotten a LOT better in his foster home over the last several years, but will need someone to continue the right kind of training with him. He does seem to warm up much faster to young women than to older people or men. This is why he’d do best in a home with NO children and with someone experienced with terrier or high energy breeds (like herding dogs) and near-professional dog behavior experience. Once you give this dog a chance, you will fall in love! He’s really such an absolutely brilliant dog, the life of the party! Roger has been in rescue since 3/2011. Roger is neutered, up to date on his shots, microchipped, and will come with a collar, harness, leash, and bag of food! Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). *courtesy listing* Pepito's age is unknown but I'm guessing about five years old, neuter chihuahua male, about 5 pounds. He is very skittish of people but does very well with other friendly dogs. He is looking for a home with someone with a lot of patience as he has to learn to trust his human. He lived in abandon lot for and unknown time which might have help become feral. He likes to bolt out the door if he has the opportunity. At my home with my dogs, he has made a lot progress, he follows their lead and it's begin to play with my female Yorkie, I think he might be in love with her :) which is actually very cute to watch...He loves meal time and waits patently while bowls are being prepared. He now wags with his tail when good things happen. He is crate trained, for a chihuahua he is very quite barks only when needed to communicate. Pepito needs some to show him love and to assure him the world isn't such a bad place.
