Posted Breed: Beagle / Mixed (short coat). Bunny is a healthy, small (23 lbs) 5-10 years old female Beagle mix. She is a quiet, gentle, playful girl and very friendly towards people and other dogs. She is well crate trained and quickly settles in for a nap. She would be a great dog for most homes, but like most Beagles she is very stubborn and energetic and will require lots of attention and exercise. Her gentle, submissive nature should make her well-suited to homes with small children and/or multiple dogs. Her attitude towards cats or other house pets is unknown. ***Bunny is heartworm positive. She will be available for adoption once she is healthy, so please fill out an application if you are interested in adopting her. If you are unable to adopt at this time, please consider making a donation toward her medical expenses.***

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Brucey

      Breed: Beagle
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Seven Valleys, PA
Posted Breed: Beagle (short coat). Quiet, gentle Brucey has clearly led a hard life. He is one of the dogs for whom a trip to the shelter is truly a blessing. Finally Brucey had nutritious food, a soft bed, and kindness from people who cared about him. But a scroungy old beagle is not likely to last long in any shelter, especially an overcrowded building in rural North Carolina. Brucey was out of time, but the volunteers who loved him knew that he had more life to live: they arranged for him to be transported to PA and into the are of Good Old Tails. In foster care Brucey has been a complete gentleman. He has had surprisingly few accidents considering he wasn't neutered until coming to our rescue, he is crate trained, and rides well in the car. He is happy to share his space with other dogs and even cats, and is gentle and polite with like-minded children. After a thorough teeth cleaning Brucey can now eat without struggle, and long-overdue medications are helping him to live pain free. This little guy just needs a quiet place to lay his head; will you give Brucey the love he's been missing?

      rescue
      Breed: Boston Terrier
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Seven Valleys, PA
Posted Breed: Boston Terrier. Beanie is about 12 years old and was most likely on his own for several months before being found. Cold and starving, he walked right into a local business and the kind folks there took him in until they found help. Now Beanie is recovering in foster care, waiting to get healthy so he can find his forever home. Despite being brand new to his foster home, Beanie has already settled in beautifully. He is good with dogs, cats, and kids, and is house trained despite not yet being neutered. He gets around very well and is even able to jump up on the couch by himself. Beanie has a lengthy recovery ahead of him but his spirits are high and he is a joy to his foster family. We are so happy to be able to help this wonderful boy!

      Breed: Poodle (Toy)

      Age: Senior
      Location: Seven Valleys, PA
Posted Breed: Poodle (Toy). Words cannot describe how adorable and sweet this little guy is! Fritzie loves everyone he meets: dogs, cats, and of course all people. He is quiet, playful, and very snuggly. He's just a tiny little man but luckily he doesn't mind being carried. Fritzie is very good friends with Trixie and he would love to go home with her, but they can be adopted separately. Because of his age and size, we will not place Fritzie in a home with small children. He needs help with house training but is happy to wear a belly band when not in his crate (he is crate trained). Fritzie had very bad teeth when he was brought to rescue and many had to be removed; he is very happy to eat moistened kibble or canned food, and he absolutely loves treats!

      Breed: Beagle
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Seven Valleys, PA
Posted Breed: Beagle (short coat). NAME: Dave BREED: Beagle APPROXIMATE AGE: 5 years WEIGHT: 20lbs ADOPTION FEE: $100 Dave came to us from a crowded shelter after being found as a stray. He is completely blind; his condition is called SARDS (sudden acquired retinal degeneration), which is not painful and does not affect other areas of his overall health. Dave is a brave boy who is already adjusting well to life in his foster home. He has a lot of energy and loves to explore inside and out. He is great with other dogs and after a brief period of barking in the general direction of the cats he encountered, he is now comfortable with them too. Dave loves attention from everyone he meets; despite being blind he is very confident and is friendly with all people. He even likes to rough-house and wrestles with his foster mom. All Dave needs to be happy and feel safe is a little time to adjust and patience while he navigates his surroundings. He is house and crate trained, walks well on a leash, rides well in the car, and is a quiet boy especially considering his breed. This little fellow is going to make a sweet and fun addition to his new family!
