Posted Breed: Beagle / Weimaraner / Mixed (short coat). Little Boy's adoption fee has been reduced to $100! Little Boy is slowly and cautiously learning about the world outside the mud. You see, 40-lb. Little Boy was one of several dogs Furkids saved from wretched outdoor living conditions. The dogs came to be known as the Griffin Mud Dogs. Little Boy started his journey in a foster home with a stable dog showing him the ropes and giving him the confidence needed to venture outside the crate. Little Boy gets along fine with dogs, large and small, and really needs a doggy companion to continue guiding him in his forever home. He is fine with older kids but younger children make him uneasy. He is bashful with visitors but once they settle in, he will follow the lead of the resident dog and come out to greet them. He is unsure about the feel of human hands but is generous with doggie kisses. The outside world is still a scary place for him and he is working on becoming comfortable on a leash. Little Boy is a courageous dog and is working hard to please his humans and adjust to their world. The security of a forever home without young children and with a patient adopter and a confident dog to guide him is what Little Boy needs now. Make a huge difference in the life of a dog who is long overdue for a lucky break. Adopt Little Boy. Furkids is eager for Little Boy to settle into a forever home and has reduced his adoption fee to just $100. Little Boy's estimated birthdate is 8/12/2014. If you want to know more about Little Boy and to speak to an Adoption Counselor, please complete an application at https://furkids.org/dog-adoptions/application. Must be at least 21 years of age to apply. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). "My adoption fee has been totally sponsored by my awesome caretakers and an awesome donor! Please fill out an application to adopt me today! My ideal home has no other animals and has experience with strong dogs like me!" Sammie is alert, house trained, and well behaved in her foster home. She walks nicely on a leash, waits for her toys (she loves toys and playing!!) and knows basic, obedience commands. Like most young dogs, Sammie can be exuberant and can take advantage if not given direction, so a strong caring leader is required. With proper introduction she likes other dogs, is great with people and loves car rides. Because of her size and strength, she would be best in a home without young children. Also, Sammie does not like cats (and vacuums). Sammie’s estimated birthdate is 11/3/2013. If you want to know more about Sammie and to speak to an Adoption Counselor, please complete an application at https://furkids.org/dog-adoptions/application. My name’s Debra Ann and I love everyone I meet so I’m sure you will be no exception. When Furkids saved me from the dog pound I was pregnant and pretty frightened. Motherhood is but a distant memory for me after having received wonderful care at Furkids. I have been taught commands, such as “sit” and “belly rubs”. Oh ... “belly rubs” isn’t a command? Well it should be because it’s what I’m best at (other than being cuddled in your lap). And treats! I’m great at taking all of those you want to give me, too! I really hope to find an active family who likes to play and run as much as I do." Debra Ann's estimated birthdate is 11/02/2014 and her adoption fee is $275 [senior citizens (age 62 and older) and military personnel receive a 15% discount on adoption fees]. Posted Breed: Spitz / Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Evelyn is sweet, cute, and always smiling. She really gets along with other dogs, and loves to be outside. She likes long walks in the neighborhood and hikes through forest trails. Evelyn hates it when it rains because then she is stuck inside. She loves playing with other canine friends in the back yard. She loves the dog park and really loses it when she knows she is headed there. She gets inside the park and runs around like crazy, going around and meeting the other dogs with great interest. Evelyn was pulled from a county shelter, which was very scary for her, but she is staying with a foster family right now and they are teaching her that she can trust people because she is very shy. Evelyn is crate trained and house broken. She walks very well on a lead and always responds to corrections. Evelyn knows her name, comes when called, goes in her crate on command, and is currently being trained with treats (she loves treats). Evelyn needs a hero, a companion, and a friend for life. Are you that special person? My Ideal Home: A home with another dog and a human that can show her some love. Since Evelyn’s estimated birthdate is 11/4/2013, her adoption fee is $275 [senior citizens (age 62 and older) and military personnel receive a 15% discount on adoption fees]. If you adopt me, our trainer will teach you how to help me learn that I don't need to guard things.” Annabell Barbie was once lost but found herself at Furkids' shelter where she became one of the shelter staff's favorite dogs. Her efforts to please and be noticed got her a free ride to one of our wonderful foster homes. After a few days with her foster family, we received a report that Annabell Barbie is very sweet, playful, curious and happy. She plays with great delight and vigor, but settles down pretty quickly. Annabell Barbie loves to be with her two-legged friends and will give you the joy of having a companion forever. She does not particularly like to be crated, but is well-behaved in the crate. Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). "My ideal home has no other pets and a fenced yard. I love kids but I want to be the only pet in the home!" Dorothy is a dog for the people - any people, whoever you are, she already loves you. This dog is so excited to be around humans that she can barely contain her joy. She is quite calm in her kennel, but when she sees a person she comes right to the door, ready for you to take her out so she can soak your face with kisses. Dorothy came to Furkids after almost running out of time at a county shelter. She gave birth to a litter of puppies and nursed them until they all found homes. Then how about this for how much of an angel she is: she nursed another dog’s puppies because that mamma was too sick to do it herself. Dorothy gets along okay with other dogs but she definitely sees herself as the alpha so submissive dogs are recommended. Dorothy would make an excellent only child dog though, so why don’t you make an appointment with the shelter to meet her, and see if she is your special little girl. Since Dorothy's estimated birthdate is 11/2/2014, her adoption fee is $275 [senior citizens (age 62 and older) and military personnel receive a 15% discount on adoption fees]. THAT MEANS HER FEE IS $0 TO A QUALIFIED APPLICANT. "My ideal home has no other animals and my people have lots of time to spend with me!" Princess has been patiently waiting for her forever castle. Moats are optional, although Princess does enjoy a refreshing swim once in a while (go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ua2Ee3TKkzI). A patch of grass would be a welcome addition. At 70 lbs., Princess appreciates a good back scratching roll. Princess has the impeccable manners you would expect from a royal. She responds to basic commands, walks nicely on lead and looks good in a tiara. Not surprisingly, Princess is a tennis fan. She would rather watch it on the tube with you than sit in the Royal Box at Wimbledon. She is learning the ins and outs of baseball and American football. Give her a spot on the sofa and her own bowl of popcorn and Princess will follow your favorite sports all season long. Princess is affectionate and devoted to her humans. She is happy to accompany you on a stroll or spend the afternoon lazing about the house. Princess makes few demands on her humans but she does insist on being the only furkid in the home. If you can commit to keeping only one furkid in your castle, come adopt this very loving and affectionate Princess! Since Princess’s estimated birthdate is 12/2/2008. Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). I HAVE EXCITING NEWS! MY ADOPTION FEE HAS BEEN FULLY SPONSORED BY THE GABRIEL FAMILY IN HONOR OF THE BIRTH OF OLIVIA FROST. THAT MEANS THAT MY ADOPTION FEE IS $0 TO A QUALIFIED APPLICANT. SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? APPLY TO ADOPT ME NOW! "My ideal home has no other animals (even visiting animals)." Taylor Swift was abandoned by her former owner. This 50-lb. beautiful blue Pittie was in rough shape when she came to us, but time and plenty of TLC has her looking and feeling better. Taylor Swift has lived in a foster home with adults and older kids. She responds to some commands like SIT and rarely barks, but she is protective of her caregivers and will bark if something is out of the ordinary. Taylor Swift likes to spend her days near a window, laying in the sun. She has a lot of energy and does need a lot of exercise (if you try to run with her, you’ll soon find out that she is much faster than you!) Taylor Swift was house trained in her foster home. Super sweet and loving, but prefers the companionship of bigger dogs if there are going to be dogs in the house. She is very active, even at the age of seven and acts like a silly puppy! Taylor Swift would be a nice addition to a family willing to give her the love and attention she deserves. Taylor Swift’s estimated birthdate is 6/24/2009. If you want to know more about Taylor Swift and to speak to an Adoption Counselor, please complete an application at https://furkids.org/dog-adoptions/application. Must be at least 21 years of age to apply. Thank you, Beth Reevew, for sponsoring Taylor Swift’s care for a month at our 15th Birthday Party! Follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/furkidsinc.

He will sniff you, but he needs you to be patient and to allow him to come up to you on his own. The more time you spend with Bean, the faster your friendship will grow. Bean is living in a foster home right now and receiving the training that he lacked since he was a puppy. He is a smart boy, likes other dogs and chewing on soft toys and antlers. Bean walks on a leash well and likes meeting other people. He knows several commands including SIT, DOWN, LEAVE IT, and COME. Oh and do you want to see a cute “happy dance” from Bean, then just wait for dinner time and watch this boy spin!!! Oh and in case you were wondering, Bean is housebroken as well. This adorable little guy is ready to become someone’s best friend, faithful companion, and all around good dog. Bean would like a fenced yard and maybe even another dog companion. L.L.Bean weighs 35 lbs. and his estimated birthdate is 1/7/2015. His adoption fee is $275 [senior citizens (age 62 and older) and military personnel receive a 15% discount on adoption fees]. SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? APPLY TO ADOPT ME! Hello folks, my name is Gus and I was a Griffin Mud Dog until the wonderful people at Furkids saved me. If you don’t know about what happened to me and all the other dogs in that situation, well you’re lucky cause I wish I didn’t either. My old owners had way too many of us and kept us in mud filled, caged pits on their property. Some days, I just wanted to give up especially when some of the other guys that were stuck there kinda lost their minds and attacked me. They tore me up real bad and I figured that was the end. I’m not good at fighting. I’m more of a lover. But just when I thought I’d never get out of that nightmare, some awesome people stepped in and got me to the shelter. It was so nice to be clean for the first time in my life and to have all of my injuries taken care of. Believe it or not, after all the stuff I’ve been through, I still really like humans. I don’t exactly hate other dogs but I’d really rather be the only one in the house. I actually spent some time in a real home for a while and learned how much I love to lay around and nap. Also how much I love to cuddle. I never even knew you could do that with someone. That’s probably also why I really only like older kids over 12 or so because they tend to understand that I don’t enjoy wild, loud behavior. I’ve had enough of that in my life. When I came to Furkids I could only be leash walked and the folks at the shelter were amazed at what a wonderful walking companion I turned out to be after having not a lick of training. I’m just a happy fella and all I want is to be loved and treated with kindness. I promise, if you give me a chance, I’ll be the best friend you ever had. My adoption fee is 100% sponsored, all I need now is for you to bring me home. Gus weighs 60 lbs. and his estimated birthdate is 8/4/2010. If you want to know more about Gus and to speak to an Adoption Counselor, please complete an application at https://furkids.org/dog-adoptions/application. Must be at least 21 years of age to apply.
