Posted Breed: Boxer / Black Mouth Cur / Mixed (short coat). This cutie is Addie. She was pulled from a kill shelter when her time was up. Her face, with that furrowed brow, is what drew us to her. She's approximately 3 years old and weighs about 40 lbs. She has a moderate to high energy level so a physical fenced yard is ideal. She will make a family very happy as she is crate trained, potty trained and the perfect compact size! She is very sweet, spunky and affectionate. She would love a family with children, although older children would be best because she can get animated and playful. She is ok with large dogs, but sometimes her puppy energy can be a bit too much for lower energy dogs. She is ok with cats, but as with any new pet, slow introductions are important. After a fun day playing in the yard, she will snuggle up next to her human. Playing fetch and jogging are also things she enjoys, so she would do best in an active home. We don't really know Addie's breed, but we think she looks like a boxer/beagle/pug, a Buggle!!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd / Pointer / Mixed. This is precious Sienna!! This Sweet girl has had a hard life. She was pregnant when she became a Proverbs' baby. We got homes for all of her sweet babies, and now we are looking for her forever family to love. Sienna is a real love. She is good with other dogs. Because she was alone for so long, she does have a jealous streak and likes to be the only one getting attention....nothing aggressive, just wanting to catch up on all the love she lost out of on. She loves to play, too. I play a game with her called "get the tail". It goes 100 miles an hour, I try to grab it and hold it. Sometimes I get it and sometimes she tucks it so we can play longer. She will chase cats but in a playful manner, not aggressively. When Sienna came to us, she was able to climb our chain link fence. So a privacy fence would be best. We also suggest if she were to live with other dogs that she be fed by herself. But once feeding is over, playtime is good to go!! While she will go in a crate she does not like it and will frequently escape so is allowed free roam of her foster home. She is housebroken and a lover. We are looking for an exceptional home for this baby.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Rottweiler / Mixed (short coat). "Hello! My name is Shaw. I'm a young mixed boy - I appear to be Rottweiler and Lab. I LOVE attention! I love to be close to my people and I won't hesitate to use my nose forcefully to get your attention. I will also roll all the way on top of you for my favorite thing - belly rubs! I really enjoy stuffed and squeaky toys, but don't be surprised when I tear them up. I must have a yard to chase tennis balls, birds, squirrels, etc and to romp in. I get very excited very easily, but at the end of my days, I love to just snuggle up on the couch." "I'm very motivated by treats and have learned the commands come, sit, all the way down (lying down), and down (get off). I also understand no and will respond to it immediately. I have only had one accident since being in my foster home and will wait by the door when I'm done going potty. I have a foster sister that I get along with well. I am always SO excited when I encounter other dogs and MUST be introduced on a leash. It takes time for me to calm down and play nicely with other dogs. My foster sister is the queen of the house and I respect her boundaries. I do not like when other dogs come near my food or treats, so I must be fed at the same time and away from another dog. I have not been introduced to cats, but I really like to bark at them from the other side of the fence! I am still working on my leash manners and need some work to be an enjoyable walk/run buddy!" "I'm searching for and cannot wait to find my forever home! I am loyal and such a love bug, but I know I will take patience and discipline to make the perfect dog. Adopt me and there will be a tail wagging ALWAYS in your house!"

Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Golden Retriever / Mixed. Meet Romeo! He's super sweet and loves to cuddle with you on the couch. He is crate trained and doesn't mind being in the crate during the day while away at work, but he is safe to leave out in the house too. He is somewhat of a couch potato but still loves a short walk or good run around the yard. He quickly learned sit and has almost learned how not to jump. He does need a fenced yard as he is not great with the leash, but we’re working on that! Romeo is a little afraid of men and sometimes doesn’t get along with male dogs his size. However, he would be a great dog for a couple or a single woman. Recommend that he is only around older children as he can be skittish with loud noises and movements. Romeo loves to be loved and is looking for his Juliet! (Romeo does get very scared at adoption day at Petco so if you’re interested in meeting him, please let Proverbs know and a meet and greet can be arranged.) Romeo's foster had a DNA test done - he is a well mixed boy primarily Blue Heeler, Golden, Gt Pyr and lab

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Harry Pawter!! Harry is a wonderful pet for the savvy dog owner. He wants to please, and is completely housebroken. He is a BIG STRONG BOY!! In some ways he is like a big teddy bear and other ways he can be a bull in a china shop. He wants to be with his people but not in your lap. He is very well behaved and well mannered. Gets along with all sized dogs. He LOVES to be outside. He does not like thunder storms or fireworks. He requires an intentional strong pack leader - he REQUIRES structure and strong leader. He is big so NO small children or elderly people. He may accidentally knock someone over.

Posted Breed: Dachshund (short coat). This sweet baby was an owner surrender. He is ok with kids, but does not like anyone in his face. If he is unsure of someone (mostly men), he will bark and go for a foot! (Lol) But once he gets used to them he's fine! He likes other dogs. He does have IVDD (Intervertebral Disk Disease), which is very common in this breed. He runs and plays and gets around very well. He loves toys. He sleeps very content and quiet in his kennel. 2/18/2015 Update: Skippy went to see Dr. Brannon and confirms he does have IVDD. Several disks that are degenerated, one that is completely calcified (chronic), and one that is herniated. He does have some incontinence that is a result of the IVDD. He was put on anti-inflammatories and see how he does. If not better we are to report back to Dr. Brannon to discuss options for precious little Skippy. Depite all of this, he gets along fairly well, is very happy, and doesn't mind his doggy diapers!

Her foster mom says she has made strides in learning to trust and is learning how to love and give love. We know ... she is black and a pitbull mix ... but she didn't ask to be born a black pittie mix ... she still deserves someone to love her and show her kindness. She needs someone willing to be patient and give her lots of love!! She does great with all size dogs but not good with cats

Being the queen and my royal lineage. I want to have my family all to myself. I want to solely be the one for you and you for me. I'm a diva! I like some of my fellow K9's as long as they know I am Queen. Queen is an absolutely gorgeous medium, red-nosed Pitbull Terrier. She came to Proverbs when her Foster Mom alerted us to the fact that she and her 7 puppies were going to be euthanized at a local shelter. Queen has been through a lot in her short life and will require a forever family that will provide her with a nurturing, stable environment. She loves children , and a few other dogs. She is curious about cats, ; there are several in her foster home , and she has never bothered them. Queen is extremely bright, eager to please her people and loves to exercise. She would make an excellent hiking or jogging partner for an active family. She is heartworm negative and has been spayed. Queen prefers ladies, but once she knows the men won't hurt her, she loves them too. We think Queen would be PERFECT for a single lady that has children and wants a dog that will appear to be menacing to strangers. Did we mention she LOVES children? She will alert **Stranger Danger** A fenced yard is required. If you are interested in Queen, please fill out an application. A fenced yard is required. Location: Nashville, TN
Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Rat Terrier / Mixed. Introducing Bogie! He is a senior rat terrier/Jack Russell, estimated to be about 9-10 years old, who was found as a stray. He has been very well taken care of at the Humane Society of Dickson, ever since he was taken there in December. Proverbs 12:10 and the Humane Society of Dickson have come together, in efforts to find this handsome gentleman a superb forever home. He's very docile, and stays close by his foster family's side. While he is still timid, his foster family expects he will gain confidence and show his full personality soon. He appears to have some visual and hearing impairments, suspected to be due to his age. He was also heartworm positive when found, and was treated in December - his follow-up test is in April, so fingers crossed he's clear. If you have a passion for the senior pooches, Bogie just might be your best companion!
