A Real Trooper This guy has my respect. I pulled him from a high kill shelter in San Antonio, Texas. He was very emaciated and had a rear leg with a bone sticking out and broken in several places. Someone had abused him. But Scooter was still happy and loved to be held and his sprits had not been broken. He has been a trooper from day one, never making a sound even though he was in a lot of pain. His leg was so bad; the vet considered amputation but decided to watch the bones heal. And heal they did. His complete medical records and x-rays will come with him at the time of adoption. Someone else named him early on but his name Scooter so deserves, he is a SCOOTER. He only barks when he is talking to you. He bounces around still like a puppy and just a very happy guy. He gets along with everyone. He runs and plays with his foster brothers and sisters and he is just a sweet dog. Scooter is 6 months old now; I got him when he was 2 months old. He weighs 30 pounds and will probably top off at about 45 as an adult. He has a beautiful black wavy coat and he does not shed. His best friend is Bradley, a bigger white border collie who only has 3 legs. Bradley was hit by a car but when he came to my house and Scooter was so small, Bradley treated Scooter as if he were his child. He cleaned him, cuddled with him and just watched over him like a mother would. It would be nice if they could go to a home together because Bradley is completely deaf and Scooter is his ears. Bradley is extremely friendly, loves to play, chases the ball and gets along with everyone. He loves his toys and belly rubs, Bradley is very gentle. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Happy to Greet your visitors for you BRANDY Brandy is a 6 year old brown brindle Labrador retriever. She serves as the welcoming committee in the pack along with Light. Always happy and eager to greet new friends. It is not known how she gets along with cats as she has never been around any. Brandy is always happy and very gentle, she takes treats from your hands so nice. Brandy could stand to lose a few pounds and I'm sure in her new home with regular walks she probably will lose about 7-10 pounds. Right now she weighs 60 lbs. Actually she would love to go walking because she is nosy and likes to meet people!! And just like all of the dogs, Brandy gets along very well with other dogs, she is well mannered, completely house and crate trained and shows no aggressive in any area, Brandy was found at the park as a puppy as skittish, she had been dumped by previous owners and she was very afraid. But because she was hungry she eventually came around so she could eat. While with the group of dogs, if all the dogs are going out to the backyard, Brandy sometimes stays inside because she desires some one on one human attention. After she gets her love then she will go join the pack to play. I cannot say enough about her great attitude and demeanor, Brandy would make a great family pet for anyone. Brandy is one of 6 dogs who was raised by an 81 year old lady who rescued dog, Miss Gloria. Miss Gloria passed away, Friday May 12 and I am trying to place her wonderful dogs in home that are like the home filled with love they are used to. Please go to my website: roxysk9rescue.org and click on Miss Gloria's picture, she is featured on my homepage. By clicking on her picture that will take you to her dogs that are available for adoption. Mr. Welcoming Committee LIGHT Light is a tan Beagle/Labrador Retriever mix and he also serves as the welcoming committee along with Brandy! He is just a happy-go-lucky boy who gets along with everyone. He has been that way since the first time Miss Gloria met him in a field at one of the feeding stations. Light always ran up to say "HI" and get a belly rub and give you a light kiss. He bounced and was light on his feet, just a very happy boy from the very beginning. Right now at 5 years old, Light weighs 57 lbs but I'm sure with regular walk he will lose a few pounds. All of the dogs play in the backyard but do not get a chance to go for individual walks. He may even have some Shepherd and Carolina breed mixed in him. Light is a polite guy with a sweet heart, if you give him a little love, he will give you a LOT of love in return. He is also calm and can be independent. He likes to make sure of where you are but he will not smother you with his presence. He is also a lover & a flirt :) What you see is what you get with Light and I wish his delightful personality could come alive in these pictures. Light is the kind of dog that will bring a smile to your face when you get home and ease your worries. He thinks its his job! Even though these pictures are 3 weeks old, I have more updated pictures and video's upon request. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pointer / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Jamesa (roxysrescue@yahoo.com), 713-882-2610 for more information about this pet. BRUNO Bruno is Miss Gloria's favorite, he sleeps with her and as you can see, he thinks he is a lapdog! But Miss Gloria loves him and welcomes him to sit on her lap. Good thing he is only 37 lbs'!!!! He is very conscience of her catheter and IV drip. He is a bit shy and hides but he will come when you call him. I think he is shy of the camera because when I put it down he then feels free to come over and give me kisses. He is very quiet. Bruno has a slight limp where he was hit by a car, it is barely noticeable but we would love to be able to take him to the vet to have it looked at before he is adopted into his new home. Would you please consider adopting Bruno into your home as your new family member? I cannot say enough good things about this dog he is fun, low maintenance, walks well on a leash, comes when called, quiet, gets along with everyone and he is even good looking!!! I will be updating on all of the dogs. Thank you. Miss Gloria passed away to Heaven on Friday, May 12, 2017 and Bruno stay beside her until she left her home. He didn't eat for days after that but he has since perked up. He likes to play the 'chase me' game with me when I go over there and he is still just as loving as always. Bruno is a true companion dog, he would rather be with his beloved human more than anything. Yes he does play with the other dogs and enjoys himself. As a matter of fact, he jumps the 4 foot fence to play with the neighbors dog and then comes back to the front door to be let back in!!! NO, he does not get along with cats, sorry. Spunky Little Rascal XAVIER 8 month old, 8.4 pound Terrier who is NOT a terror!!! He is a really sweet and playful boy. He likes to play with toys, plays chase the toy very well but he doesn't bring it back! Even though he is a lap dog, he is not one of those dogs that kisses and licks you constantly. Actually he does not kiss at all but I am working on that!!! He is socialized but lacked getting any love from his first home. He was actually adopted from San Antonio City shelter when he was 7 weeks old and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time when his owners threw him out of a car. I contacted them repeated by they were not interested in having him back. He is crate trained but he hates the crate. I am working on his potty training, he does well at going to the back door but he doesn't make a sound to indicate he wants to go out so if you are not watching him, he will have an accident. But we are working on that issue and by the time he is adopted I hope he is much better and will bark. But if you notice him walking in circles, that means he needs to go out to potty. Xavier also has personality, when you call me, he belly walks over to you or sometimes he will skip and hop over to you. He is a lovebug and would be a great addition to your family ADOPTION FEE & APPLICATION REQUIRED Roxy's K-9 Rescue does not have a shelter, all of our dogs are raised in foster homes. Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). She smiles when she is with you HER STORY Kaily gave birth to 8 puppies on November 17, 2015; 4 girls & 4 boys. All have been adopted. Kaily appears to be a true Labrador Retriever but mixed with something. Kaily had no microchip and I guess she ran away for a better life. Kaily ate through her rope and tie-down from her home and ended up at one of my feeding stations very pregnant. She gave birth to 9 puppies almost 1 week later. Very smart girl, I guess Kaily decided she would not give birth while tied up. She had on a huge black collar and chain that she broke to escape her previous home. That awful collar has been removed for a more stylist one. As soon as she had her babies, I climbed the fence and found her 2 day old babies laying filth, dirt, trash, it was not very nice and they were covered already with fleas. This may have been Kaily's first litter, she tried to hide them from the elements but she didn't do a very good job, they were completely exposed to the wind and rain. 1 little puppy didn't make it. But the other 8 looked good. Kaily ended up being very happy to be rescued, loaded up and taken to a clean, safe home where she could receive love & attention. Kaily is 2.5 years old and currently weighs 68 lbs but she could stand to lose a few pounds. I’m sure with regular walks she would probably lose 10 pounds easily. Kaily has a great personalities, she is very quiet, friendly and gets along with all humans and dogs. Actually her entire litter of puppies were all very quiet, quiet when they played, ate, wrestled, they were just a very calm, chill bunch. Kaily does not get upset, nor is she destructive. She will sleep in her crate but she is fine just sleeping on her doggy bed, she is not destructive. She will play with toys but she would rather have some ear scratches and love from her human and cuddle besides you. She is not a shadow dog, very independent but she keeps an eye on you to make sure you are still there. Her solemn look turns into a smile while she is following you around and she is just close to you, all she wants s to share her love. Kaily is a great, very calm, well behaved young lady and will make a great family pet. Kaily is a Labrador Retriever mix with a bronzy brown coat with black going doing the middle. Now that she knows she is safe and not chained up, she is the perfect little lady. She requires very little maintenance and just wants to be loved. She has 1 male playmate that she is fond of but she is in a home with a variety of foster brothers and sisters. She gets along with small and big dogs, her first roommate upon arriving here was a 4 pound Maltese and he made sure she knew who was boss!! Kaily has a mild demeanor; not aggressive in any area and likes to get out for walks but not demanding of them. Nor does her behavior require that she be walked on a daily basis. Kaily's coat looks a lot better now than when she was first rescued. Please consider giving Kaily her chance at a forever home. Doll of a Husky Needs Help MUNECA "DOLL" This is the name given to this 1 1/2 year old female Husky by her foster mom. Muneca was happy to be rescued from a condemned trailer park in San Antonio, TX It took her about 5 minutes to scoot over to us for food. She was left behind by her owner after she was hit by a car and left with extensive injuries. Of course the driver never stopped to help her and her owner did nothing to relieve her pain. Muneca meaning "Doll" in Spanish is a very special girl. She has become accustomed to the pain in her legs and that should not be a normal thing. She is so grateful to be rescued, she never causes any problems for her foster mom and her foster brothers & sisters seem to realize Muneca needs special attention, they are gentle with her and never try to pick on her. She walks or hops or scoot but her legs remain in a squatting position as if she is pottying. She will have rods placed in her legs and cast over for a month at the minimal to try to heal the bones. The vets are optimistic that with surgery and physical therapy Muneca will be able to walk and run like a normal 4-legged dog. She is in constant pain but remains a sweet girl with no complaints. Doll will need to have surgery to repair her hip, her tail bone and cast her legs. When rescued she had a horrible case of mange, flea infestation which caused a bad skin infection. As you can see her coat is growing back nicely and she no longer itches and experiences that discomfort. An initial assessment has been made but we will keep everyone updated on her surgery date once the funds are raised, the procedure performed on her and her future outlook. Once she has healed, Muneca will be looking for her forever home. Please help donate to her recovery; she deserves a chance to be a normal dog. Doll has really been a DOLL of a dog. Posted Breed: Basset Hound / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Jamesa (roxysrescue@yahoo.com), 713-882-2610 for more information about this pet. Gorgeous guy blended Beagle, American Stafforshire, Bassett Hound & Lab TYSON Low Rider was his birth name because of his appearance, short legs with body very low to the ground and he is a mixture of a few different things. And boy does he have a story behind him. Tyson and his 9 siblings were born in my home after I rescued his very pregnant mother, her very pregnant daughter and another daughter just 6 months old. They had been dumped in a local park here in San Antonio, Texas. It was freezing cold and raining outside. His mother gave birth about 3 days after I got her and her daughter gave birth the very next week. A different rescue took in the pregnant daughter and the 6 month old daughter. All of the puppies came out very different but healthy and happy. You know a female dog can become impregnated by up to 7 different males and surely this is what happened to Tyson's mother Paris. Miss Paris really had a diverse group of babies!!!! Tyson was adopted out by a family with kids and even though he was raised inside my home, they kept him outside. He escaped his fence and got hit by a car. Sadly the car that hit him left him there until Animal Control Services (ACS) our city shelter picked him up very injured. He lay all evening and night in a bed of ants that bite him all over. That car really hit him hard. Thank goodness for microchips, ACS notified me that they had one of my dogs. When I went to pick up Tyson, I was shocked at his injuries. I immediately took him to my vet and he spent a week there before coming home to heal even more. Tyson endured several surgeries and he is back to being a normal dog. He is happy, friendly and loving, also very obedient. Tyson was not returned to his adoptive family because they were not able to pay the enormous vet fees for his surgeries and care. So I am trying to find the right forever home for Tyson. Tyson does run and jump, plays chase, wrestles and has no limitations. His back leg is does not bend completely because he had a steel rod in place for longer than normal to help the bones heal to prevent amputation. This is a dog with a very playful and sweet personality; he loves everyone and gets along with other dogs very well. I have attached pictures of his injuries, his mother & litter mates and current pictures of Tyson. I plan on posting a video of him soon so you can see him in action and know he has no limitations. Most of all Tyson loves kids and some human attention. He loves the camera; he weighs 37 pounds and a mixture of basset hound, beagle and who knows what else.
