Posted Breed: Boxer / Border Collie / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Liz (elizabethjeffcoat@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Lacy is a friendly affectionate social butterfly that loves people. She is the prefect combination of an active dog that loves to play fetch and frizbee, but also can be a couch potato. She is great with kids, but she would be best for a home with kids age 7 and older. She can be picky when it comes to canine companions. If you have another dog, its worth meeting as they may just get along great. She is not good with cats. If you have questions about Lacy, please call or text Liz 214-616-6128 Lacy's adoption includes all adult vaccinations, worming, rabies vaccination, heartworm neg, spay, microchip including registration. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      rescue
      Breed: Italian Greyhuahua
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Arlington, TX
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Italian Greyhound / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Louisa (adoptions@shelter2rescue.org) for more information about this pet. Don’t let Marsh’s shyness fool you; he is an active, happy little dog that will thrive once he gets to know you and you get to know him. He is 1yr 10 month old, weighing 1-10lbs.He adores other dogs and must be placed in a home with an active dog or two. Once he’s finished playing he wants nothing more than to sit close to you so you can give him a scratch or a pat. He needs a home that can provide him with a regular schedule since he is still young; think of him as a 5-year-old boy that might need to be reminded to do his chores on occasion. He is crate trained and goes into his crate at night or when his foster parents need to leave the house. He loves squishy dog beds and lots of doggy blankets to cover up with at night, and he will cover himself up when it’s time to go to sleep. He loves to play with toys and his foster brothers; often crying for his foster brothers if he is separated from them for too long, so please consider him if you have an active dog at home that needs someone to play with. Marsh wants nothing more than to be loved forever by a family he can call his own. He is a bright light that has shined a bit of sunshine in his foster family’s home. His adoption includes age appropriate vaccinations, worming, rabies vaccination, neuter, and microchip including registration..If you are interested please complete our online application at www.shelter2rescue.petfinder.com

      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Arlington, TX
Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Cattle Dog / Mixed. Lydia is a beautiful young female Heeler/Aussie mix. She is 6 months old. Weighing 34lbs currently, she will grow a little more. She was found on the side of the highway and an officer picked her up and brought her to the shelter. Now she is happy playing with new play pals waiting for forever home. Lydia is very sweet, she was scared at the shelter, we think she will be so happy to have her own home. She loves to go play outside for fun times. Lydia is still young so she will need routine and to learn her new home and things she can do. Such a great pup already Her adoption includes age appropriate vaccinations, worming, rabies vaccination, heartworm test (dogs over 6 months), spay, and microchip including registration. Posted Breed: Border Collie (short coat). JASMINE is a beautiful 10 month old lab/border collie mix with beautiful markings. She is a total sweetheart and "huggler" - great at giving cuddle hugs!! She is about 40 lbs now and will end up petite and medium size when fully grown. JASMINE is good with other dogs once she gets to know them and would do well as an only dog or with another pup her size or larger. Small dogs would be fine as long as they like an "energetic" fur-sister. Once trained a bit more on her leash pulling, I think she will be a great jogging partner because she LOVES to run. She loves people and thrives on affection. JASMINE has played with and been fine around children at adoption events and outside. Crate trained AND already housebroken, JASMINE is ready for a wonderful and loving home for the Holiday! Her adoption includes age appropriate vaccinations, worming, rabies vaccination, heartworm test (dogs over 6 months), spay, and microchip including registration. Scruffy Dude...

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Arlington, TX
Posted Breed: Terrier / Schnauzer / Mixed. Scruffy Dude is a handsome boy. Rescued from Cleburne animal shelter. Now is a foster home, he is getting to know his foster siblings. He is estimated to be a year old. He weighs approx 50lbs a medium size dog. He is one of those chilled dogs. He would be happy in a calmer home or one with older kids maybe just because he appears to prefer the quieter or more relaxed environment. He would be great to go on walks with or just chill on the porch with on a nice evening. He is an inside dog, but will also be happy to spend a little time outside whilst you are home to do things that dogs like to do, like roll around or just lay. If you are looking for a different kind of dog with character Scruffy dude could be the one. He would not be an apartment dog. His adoption includes age appropriate vaccinations, worming, rabies vaccination, heartworm test (dogs over 6 months), neuter, and microchip including registration. For more questions you can contact his foster mom Liz at 214 616 6128 If you are interested please complete our online application at www.shelter2rescue.petfinder.com or www.shelter2rescue.org

      Breed: Australian Shepherd

      Age: Young
      Location: Arlington, TX
Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd (short coat). Please contact Liz (elizabethjeffcoat@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Holly a stunning girl. Super active and all around fun. She is looking for an active home, or simply one that she will get to run and play, or be that running buddy. She is 18 months old. Approx 50lbs, and could fill out a bit more but not too much. Holly loves people and likes to play with others, she finds it fun to play around with her foster siblings. She would not be a match for an apartment dog. She would love a home that has a yard she can get to play around in and enjoy times with her family. Holly loves to snuggle up in doors when its time to rest or its night time too. Her foster mom crates her whilst she goes to work or has errands to do. She is good around children, but because she is active it might be best to match her with older kids on a regular basis. Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Bull Terrier Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Arlington, TX
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Bull Terrier / Mixed. Meet Olive! She is a Pit Bull/Bull Terrier mix. At only 45lbs, this pretty and petite little gal is the perfect size! Olive is an energetic and fun girl who has the personality of a puppy dog, cuddly and sweet but loves to play! She loves meeting new people and is very friendly with children and adults alike! Olive is house broken and does not have accidents, she is accustomed and well adjusted to being crated, and she knows several commands (continued training would be a great way for her to bond with her new owners)! She is bubbly, always happy and ready for adventure, and she is as sweet as can be! Olive would do best in a home where she could have a doggy companion, daily walks and exercise, and lots of cuddles and love! She gets along excellent with dogs her size or larger; however, a home with small dogs or cats would not be ideal for her. If you have any further questions about Olive, please contact Amanda at amandaemma@me.com!

Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd / Collie / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Liz (elizabethjeffcoat@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Blake a gorgeous boy, and a sweetheart too. Born approximately 28 March 2016.He is still growing and we believe will end up about 50lbs. He is good with other dogs, and would be a submissive dog. He loves people and enjoys all the attention when given. He would need more practice going on walks, but has done very well on a leash so far. Whilst he loves to be outside in the nice weather, he wouldn't want to be out for long lengths of time. His foster mom has him in a crate at night so he has learnt to be crate trained. It also helps when you have to leave your home and he is safe and you don't worry about anything being chewed up! Blake is also social around children. Playtime would be great with you, the kids or dogs. We think Blake is a handsome boy with a great personality. His adoption includes age appropriate vaccinations, worming, rabies vaccination, heartworm test (dogs over 6 months), neuter, and microchip including registration.
