Lacy is a friendly affectionate social butterfly that loves people. She is the prefect combination of an active dog that loves to play fetch and frizbee, but also can be a couch potato. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Henry

      rescue
      Breed: Pembroke Welsh Corgi-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Corgi / Mixed. Meet Henry! He is a lovable 2 year old corgi mix in search of his new home. Here is his story from his point of view: Hi! You want to know my story? Well, when I was adopted, I was just a pup. Two years later, my owners couldn't keep me because they had no time with all the changes going on in their lives. So here I am again. I was really nervous about my situation, so I was very shy and skittish and really unsure of myself. Then this lady picked me up at boarding. I didn't know what to expect. She took me to her house, fed me and let me relax in a quiet place until I was ready to really meet her. It helped that she had another dog to help me know what was okay and what was not. After a while, I started feeling like my old self. I started to play and have fun! It was amazing! I know I can't stay here forever, so my foster mom and I are on the search for a great home I can go to." --------- Henry tends to be a little nervous in new situations and around loud people in the beginning, but once he gets acclimated, he seems to be just fine. He likes playing with other dogs but a little shy meeting new people. He would need another dog in a loving home to do well. Children under the age of 8 would not be ideal since he tends to run away from rambunctious activities. He loves to run and play with squeaky toys and any toy he can really chew on. Not sure how he is about cats, but he gets very interested in squirrels. He seems to be potty trained and we will be working on getting him acquainted with a doggy door. He seems to prefer the crate for bedtime and understands "bed" when its time to go to sleep. He also prefers the crate when he is unsure of himself. He is decent on a leash and is getting used to walks but he prefers to stay at home or visit the backyard. He does well when we go on errands and other car trips. Currently he would do best with someone who either is at home or doesn't work extremely long hours. If you have the heart and the patience to give Henry a loving and permanent home, please visit our website www.shelter2rescue.org to fill out an application. His adoption fee covers rabies, up to date vaccinations, neuter, deworming, heartworm test, microchip and registration. If you have questions about Henry, please contact his foster mom Femila 817-683-2248.

      Breed: Sheprador
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Bazzle is a 4 year old, mixed breed, 45 lb. male dog who is available for adoption!! He was born on November 1, 2012 and he is neutered. Bazzle is an incredibly smart boy.  He came to us a puppy and is completely house trained.  He has even been trained by a professional! He is able to sit, fetch, shake and he always comes when called. He is so smart that he could even be trained to perform well in obstacle courses if that is something that interests you!! Bazzle is very energetic and playful! He loves to play Frisbee in the back yard and run around with his other dog siblings. He does very well with other dogs, but should not be in a home with small children. He is very affectionate and not destructive at all. He does not chew your things. He loves to walk and run with you. We use a gentle lead which would move with him as well as his kennel, furminator brush, retractable leash. Bazzle is very loyal and protective of you so, you would need to be a bit careful when new people come over to see how he reacts to them at first as is typical of protective and loyal dogs. He is praise and treat motivated and loves baby carrots and hard bones!! He also loves to be petted and loves to lay in the sunshine. He is such a sweet and loyal guy and he would love to be your newest family member. He just got his shots up to date in June 2017! We absolutely adore Bazzle and want to make sure that whoever adopts him will take good care of him and appreciate him since he is so special, smart and loving. If you are interested, please feel free to contact Jill Lutz at 817-966-4553 via text or talk with questions.

      Breed: Italian Greyhuahua
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Italian Greyhound / Chihuahua / Mixed. Don’t let Marsh’s shyness fool you; he is an active, happy little dog that will thrive once he gets to know you and you get to know him. He is 2 years old, weighing about 10lbs. He adores other dogs and must be placed in a home with an active dog or two. Once he’s finished playing he wants nothing more than to sit close to you so you can give him a scratch or a pat. He needs a home that can provide him with a regular schedule since he is still young; think of him as a 5-year-old boy that might need to be reminded to do his chores on occasion. He is crate trained and goes into his crate at night or when his foster parents need to leave the house. He loves squishy dog beds and lots of doggy blankets to cover up with at night, and he will cover himself up when it’s time to go to sleep. He loves to play with toys and his foster brothers; often crying for his foster brothers if he is separated from them for too long, so please consider him if you have an active dog at home that needs someone to play with. Marsh wants nothing more than to be loved forever by a family he can call his own. He is a bright light that has shined a bit of sunshine in his foster family’s home. His adoption includes age appropriate vaccinations, worming, rabies vaccination, neuter, and microchip including registration. . Breed: Italian Greyhound-Whippet Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Italian Greyhound / Whippet / Mixed. Little Gertie is a sweet little girl. She is estimated to be 2 years old. A friendly girl, she is gentle and just wants to be loved by you. She is social, and loves to be around the other dogs. Sometimes she can be unsure of new surroundings but with encouragement she settles well. If you are looking for a small girl, a girl who adores to be needed and around you, she could be the girl for you. Gertie appears to be an iggy, Italian Greyhound, Whippet mix. Weighing maybe 20lbs. She will need a good routine in her new home so she will know when to go outside and potty and when not too. We think Gertie would do really well with someone home most of the time or not gone really long hours. Contact us at www.shelter2rescue.org you can find the adoption application on the adoptables tab. Easy to find and easy to fill out. Once you have filled it out the foster mom will contact you directly.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever. **ADOPTION EVENT!! Meet me at Petco Aug 12, 11:30-3pm. 4001 W GreenOaks Blvd, Arlington, 76016*** Emmys story Emmy was rescued last July from Glen Rose animal shelter in Texas. She was a part of a confiscation case. Too many dogs and not being properly cared for. Poor Emmy cowered in the kennel and would scurry away to the outside or in a corner. After some encouragement from the ACO she brought her out of the kennel. Taken into a foster home to save her from certain euthanasia. For months she would be terrified if someone moved too quick or made a noise. Obviously she has had a terrible time before and has spent months decompressing. Today Emmy exists quite well in her foster home. She is and always has been potty trained. She goes in her crate when needed, its her safe haven too. Emmy loves to snuggle on a dog bed, the comfier the better. She loves chews, ropes and hard toys. Emmy loves to be outside (only to play),she plays with tennis balls very well on her own. She will gallop around the garden and be happy. She loves the other dog that she is with, a big dog, low key. Its like she reassures her that its ok. Emmy now has started going on little walks with her buddy aside. She is getting a little more confident each time. (She would prob be better suited with a med/large dog as a buddy in her new home). We understand that she may not be a dog that everyone wants. Don't think that she will be totally fine in a day or two or a few weeks. It has taken almost a year to get her where she is now. But if you have the patience and guidance, and another buddy for her, maybe you could give her a good home. She appears to bond with women mostly. Big guys tend to scare her more. Fast running, noisy kids are not her thing either. If you are interested in Emmy, you are welcome to contact us at adoptions@shelter2rescue.org for questions or meeting her. We realize this won't be fast but every dog has a place out there in our world.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Matthew is not your typical 2.5 year old chihuahua! He doesn't shiver and quake in the midst of chaos! He has a bravado that is adorable and worthy of respect. He is just as suave and confident as his namesake in Hollywood! He gets along well with all dogs he has encountered so far, large and small alike. He loves to play, bounce all over the house with a joyous attitude that is heartwarming. At his foster dad's home, he loves to explore the outdoor space during the day and enjoy his people time in the evening. He is great with men, women, and kids. He enjoys the occasional morning runs (3 miles!) but could use regular playtime. He is housebroken at his foster dad's place and when he visits guest, you have to show him where the powder room for him is until he gets the hang of it. Posted Breed: Plott Hound. Meet Bart Maverick! He is almost 2 years old and our best guess is that he is a Plott hound mix. Bart is an awesome looking dog and he would love to be your best friend. He would be the perfect partner to take on a Sunday drive as he loves car rides. Bart also loves to play and is good with most dogs. When he is done playing, he chills by your side on the couch or the floor, whatever is most comfortable. He has a sweet disposition and is calm when inside. He may be great with dogs, but not so much so with cats as they are not his favorite.
