Posted Breed: Collie / Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat). www.TheLastResortRescue.com PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING THIS PET THE FIRST STEP IS TO FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AVAILABLE AT THELASTRESORTRESCUE.COM. WE CANNOT RESPOND TO GENERAL INQUIRES ABOUT A DOG WITHOUT AN APPLICATION ON FILE. Nate was born in approx March of 2015. He is in desperate need of a a new foster home ASAP. We rescued him when he was 10 weeks old from Craigslist. Nate hasn't seemed to find the right people as he has been in and out of 4 homes already. Here is the latest update from his foster dad who needs him out by the end of this week as he is moving. Personality Nate is a very affectionate dog. He loves attention and being with small groups of people. He has energy to spare, but can crash pretty hard when being active all day. He is very agile and likes to jump to greet people, so be wary of his nails. He no longer jumps on the person he's greeting but may do so if not regularly trained. He is a pretty sound sleeper, even when with company, but will make sure to wake up immediately if you try and leave him alone. Tends yelp if left by himself or if he is feeling lonely/neglected. Will whine usually if needing to go potty. He loves blankets and will attempt to play tug o war with you if it is dangled in front of him or snuggle underneath it. Listens well the closer you are with him. He is very behaved without his leash outside and does not seem tempted to jump 4 foot fences. Loves belly pats and being smothered with love from a whole group of people. Be careful with paper, cardboard and stuffed items, because he will attempt to make that item a chew toy immediately. Likes to hide his twisty bone in the silliest ways. Health and body No signs of discomfort. May have a bit of anxiety from being with different people and not being able to settle into one place for very long. Eats regularly and drinks a great amount of water. Tends to shed quite a lot, but smells really pleasant. He is very strong and active. Very slim and lanky, so he may slip out of his collar if pulled at the right angle. He’s a very active dreamer and seems to have pleasant nights. pee looks normal colored and stool tends to be soft mostly. Goes to the bathroom about 34 times a day if fed 2 cups of kibble and bowl of water a day. about 12 times for #2 and 24 times for #1.Will sometimes do them separately, so spend a bit more time outside for him to finish. Final Thoughts Nate is a great, clever and lovable dog. He has a large amount of energy, so have fun teaching him fun tricks. Enjoy being slobbered on and given many kisses. He has so much to offer so please take take care of him! We are awaiting new pictures but the main picture is from today 8/25/16 Below are the older postings from the time we rescued him: Meet Nate, a 10 week old blue heeler/collie mix. He came to us from South Jersey where we know he would of ended up in the wrong hands so we took him and his brother into our rescue. We have learned that Nate loves affection and even does this little whimper when being rubbed. He loves to play outside with his brother and other dogs. Loves to run around with the kids but does tend to jump up often. He would be great in a family that is looking for a playmate as well as a cuddler.. If you think your family is just what Nate needs fill out the application today! Update from foster mom 07/15/15 Hey there! My name is Nate and I am almost 6 months old. I am told I am great on a leash when you walk me because I never pull. Also I make my foster family proud with potty training, I bark when I have to go so there are no accidents in the house. One thing about me is I'm very affectionate and LOVE attention. Yes, I do bark when I’m looking for attention but I’m still young they say and learning. Everyone loves that I know quite a few tricks. I can sit, lay down and wait while you get my food ready and not eat it until you say ok. I’m looking for a playful home, yet also one that loves to give me attention and cuddles me. I enjoy playing with dogs and kids of all ages and sizes but haven't met a cat yet. Also, my foster family has a member that is allergic to me so we are trying to get me a new home as soon as possible! The only negative I have is that I bark a lot and it's a very piercing bark. I do this when I need to go potty so I say that's not a bad thing! I also bark when I want attention and my foster mom cannot always give it to me at that exact time so I bark for a little bit and then will stop. I really don't think I will be a big barker if I have the attention I crave. My foster family does what they can but I would really like an active family who is home a lot. I am a very sweet dog that just loves attention! Will you bring me into your family? Update from foster family 01/25/16 Personality Nate is a very affectionate dog. Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Welcome to TLR MD Daisy! Daisy comes to us from a very rural, high kill area of Georgia. Daisy is a little shy of new people and isn’t a bundle of energy so she was pushed out of the way by the other dogs at the kennel until she made the urgent list. Then one of our wonderful volunteers opened their home to save Daisy’s life and she’s now adjusting to a better way of life here in MD. She was a little unsure when she first arrived and paced trying to figure out what was going on and why was she here? But we knew she’d soon figure it out when her tail started to wag. Daisy is a 3 year old Shepherd mix. She is spayed and current on her vaccines. She is heartworm positive and we’ve begun treating her through the slow kill method. The rescue will provide all medication and related care until she’s heartworm negative. We are just starting to get to know Daisy and will post an update soon but so far we know she’s indifferent to cats and dogs and gets along with everyone. She is crate trained and house trained and very mellow. Foster Update 5/1/16: She's doing well. She is amazingly good with the cats and the kids. She is still a little skittish, and doesn't like to be petted much, but she is definitely better than she used to be with that. She still paces, but it doesn't seem nearly as frantic as it used to. She much prefers to be outside than in, and I do have trouble getting her back in the house sometimes. She only barks when she is hungry, LOL. In fact she could be my new alarm clock, because she barks at 6 AM every morning. But she is gradually becoming more receptive to affection, especially if you pet her on the body and not the head. She likes to chew on bully strips, and destroys them relatively quickly, but has not been destructive to any of the furniture in the house. She did rip apart her pillow, but that's OK because she seems to prefer to lay on a hard surface. She totally ignores the dog bed. She really is a great dog! Haven't tried to play fetch with her, but we do take walks periodically and she is getting better on the leash she doesn't pull, it's actually the opposite problem. She lags behind and has to be tugged to get moving a lot. But like I said, gradual improvement. She's been friendly towards other dogs, and interacts with the dogs in my neighbors yard through the fence a lot. One of the two next-door likes to bark at her, but she doesn't bark back. She has a very low tail wag, which at first I thought was a sign that she was scared, but I think now that that's just how her tail is. I've never seen it up more than halfway. Update on Daisy, June 26, 2016: Daisy has calmed down a great deal in the past two months. She greets us with a wagging tail every morning and whenever we return from being out. We no longer crate her when we are not home, and she has not been destructive at all. She also no longer sleeps in the crate, preferring a spot on the carpet, completely ignoring the dog bed as well. She is very well house trained, not having had any accidents in the house; the longest span she has been home alone is probably about 8 hours. She is not a barker with the exception of when she really needs to go outside. In fact, she prefers to be outside, regardless of the weather. She has not shown any inclination to leave our yard, which has a four-foot fence. She still paces a little, usually when she first goes outside after having been inside for a while, but not nearly as much as she initially did. She is still not interested in traditional play – chasing balls and the like – but has become much more affectionate, coming up to us to be petted when we are sitting around. She has started following me around the house when I first come home from being out, and laying down next to me when I work on the computer at night. She continues to get along well with both the children and the cats, and has interacted well with other dogs in supervised situations. She has not had the opportunity to interact with other dogs in the same yard off leash, but her on-leash and through-the-fence interactions lead me to believe she would do well with other dogs in general. All in all, she has been a wonderful foster so far, and I think she’ll make a wonderful pet for a family looking for a relatively calm dog! If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Meet Lucky! Lucky is a super special boy and he was given a very appropriate name. Lucky was just about to be put to sleep at a high kill shelter in GA and the Last Resort saved his life in the nick of time. It’s a good thing because he has such a gentle spirit and is so sweet. His foster mom says: "if there is just one word I can use to describe Lucky, it's Loyal - Lucky just wants to follow me around all day and be included in activities and get some loving from time to time." The vet said he believes Lucky is about 5 years old, but he could reasonably be anywhere between 5-7. He is a 65 lb Shepherd mix. We are hoping there will be a special soul out there that will want to bring Lucky into their home. Sadly, we can tell he has been abused in the past. He still cringes a bit with quick hand movements but he is improving. Unfortunately, Lucky has developed seizures and is currently being treated with Penobarbital. We have been able to get his medication adjusted to just where it needs to be and hopefully he will continue to have very few seizures. It is not unusual for him to experience a seizure about once a month though. He is on a mix of both phenobarbital and potassium bromide and seems to be doing well on this. Lucky truly loves everyone and everything – he is great with other dogs and just loves being around them. He is super with people also and has really come out of his shell, although he is still a very easy going dog. He really just wants someone to be his companion and he is really very calm and pleasant to be around. Lucky is very food motivated and knows to sit and beg for food. If you watch his video you will see that he sits up like a statue to beg for treats. It's really cute! Lucky is a gentle soul without a mean bone in his body. He does pretty well in his crate – he whines at first but then quiets down nicely. Hopefully whoever adopts him will be around a good deal and won’t have to crate him. Lucky stays out of his crate overnight and just lays right next to the bed on the floor. Lucky very rarely has an accident in the home, however because of his medication, he does need to go out fairly frequently. We would like for Lucky to be adopted by someone with a fenced in yard as he does occasionally enjoy a good roll in the grass on a nice sunny day. Also - Lucky can not be left alone all day if someone works full time - it just won't work for him. He loves a tennis ball and carrying around his stuffed bear. He does very well on a leash also, although Lucky will have no interest in being a majorly active dog. He just wants to cuddle on the couch with you! Lucky is neutered and current on vaccines. Lucky is currently in foster care in GA and will be transported to MD or NJ for an approved adopter. Please give him a chance. He just wants someone to love him and make him a part of their family forever. Update 7/16/17 - We know that Lucky will require a special adopter, due to his seizure history. However, we are just shocked that no one has come forward and adopted this awesome, gentle boy. He's been is his foster home over 1 year now. When is it going to be HIS chance to find his forever home? He really deserves it. ~~~~The Last Resort is a foster based rescue. Our dogs are in our foster homes all up and down the east coast. We do not have a facility in which you can visit. We find this a huge benefit because we learn our dogs and are able to educate our adopters on what it’s like to have them live in your home. If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Meet Coco, our resident princess. Coco was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Georgia hours before she was to be euthanized. Although we do not have any information about her background, it's seems that Coco's early years did not allow her the joys and comforts of being a family pet, but you would never know it from her demeanor. One look at those soulful eyes and she will win you over! Coco is sweet and generally easy going. She is fully house trained, has good house manners (no jumping or begging at the table, no jumping on furniture) and is great with kids. She's a real nanny dog! Coco loves to play with toys and bones and has good recall. She knows a few basic commands, as well. Although she's not petite, she is gentle. Coco is smart and catches on quickly. She will fit in well with most environments and would be fine with kids or laid-back non-territorial adult dogs. She doesn't need tons of room, either, since she's mellow, and does well in a fenced-in yard or on a leash. When she came to us, Coco was underweight but is now at a good healthy weight and is totally thriving. Coco is fully up to date on vaccines and spayed. Coco has some lumps on her body, which are benign skin tumors. These are not cancer, require no treatment and they do not hurt her. They are very common in labs as they get older. Her teeth are in good shape, so she may be younger than estimated. Coco has so much to give and her happiness is infectious. We hope you’ll allow her sunshine to fill your days with joy. Update from foster on 7/22/16: I wanted to send you an update on how Coco is doing. She's a great girl and has adjusted so well to our home. She absolutely adores the kids - she actually sits at the door and cries when they leave. And nothing makes her happier than when they return (although peanut butter and playing with her toys are close seconds). She is a perfect family dog - fully housetrained, very friendly and not at all destructive. As much as we love having her with us, I hope she will be able to find her forever home soon! She is a 3 year old German Shepherd who we nursed back to health. Aubrey is now completely healthy and in search of her perfect home. Aubrey is crate trained & housebroken, but doesn't know how to potty on a leash so a fenced yard would be a big benefit to anyone wanting to adopt. True to the breed, Aubrey will bond strongly with ONE people and wants to be the sole focus of someone’s affection. Aubrey’s ideal home is one where she won’t have to share attention with other dogs or young children. We have observed Aubrey being scared of men and even nipping at them if she feels threatened. Aubrey would do great in a home with a single woman and/or a patient man willing to take their time and earn her trust. No small pets please. Aubrey is in boarding in NC but can be transported to an approved adopter in MD or NJ. Fostering with the intent to adopt is an option in this case. She is spayed and up to date on her shots. If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Meet this handsome boy, Sarge. He's 2 to 3 years old. The Last Resort took Sarge in because he would escape from his home in NC and come to play with one of our fosters. His owners would eventually come pick Sarge up. Then one day they stopped coming and moved away. Their loss is our gain...can you say HUBBA, HUBBA, HUBBA??? Sarge is dog friendly but prefers dogs who are laid back. True to the breed, Sarge is not cat friendly. He would do great with older children in the home. He is very vocal and loves to sing to you so no apartments or condos please, and he definitely needs a fenced in backyard that is secure or someone willing to exercise him on lead a lot. He is crate trained, housebroken and very food motivated. Sarge is the independent type. He can be your typical stubborn husky at times, so we are requiring an experienced adopter that is familiar with this breed or someone who has done ample research ((this is a must)). Sarge is neutered and up to date on his shots. Sarge is in a foster home in NC and can be transported to either NJ or MD for an approved adopter. Who doesn't need this type of handsome in their life? If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Update from foster mom 3/25/14 Buddy is a 12 year old Shih Tzu/Maltese mix, and is about 17 lbs. He's being tested for allergies right now, We are currently waiting on his test results. He's had a rough life. I found him wandering a local highway in the freezing rain, filthy dirty, shivering, and crying. He was flea infested, had hardly any hair on his bottom half. He was suffering from flea bite allergy and had scabs, and open sores. He was extremely itchy and would cry because it hurt so much. He was hesitant at first but it took very little coaxing before he came to me. I wrapped him in a blanket and as soon as we were in my car he kissed my face. He sat on my lap all the way home. This poor guy has 3 herniated disks, 3 BB gun pellets (he was shot), a tail that was traumatized somehow, some weakness in his hind legs (caused by the disks), a bluish haze over his eyes which the vet says is comparable to humans needing reading glasses, and plenty of bumps and lumps (which the vet believes is of no concern.) He needs a loving home where someone is willing to give him the life he deserves. He's super sweet, but like his nickname, can be a grumpy old man. He's got the funniest personality! He makes all sorts of funny sounds when he's playing, and his nose works for sure! We call it his super sniffer! He's a great cuddler, loves walks, toys, and treats. He does well during bath time, and he's well behaved in the car. He does well at the vet, and the groomer too. He's excellent in the house, no accidents. Also, he doesn't need a crate, he's very good! He doesn't get into anything or chew stuff up. He sleeps with us too! (Watch out, he snores!) He's completely spoiled. We love him and know that whomever adopts this little guy will love him too! He's great with woman, a bit slow to warm up to men, but he does come around. Kids are ok as long as there is no rough housing. It seems to make him nervous. He's not a fan of lots of action (like running) he's a quiet peaceful kinda guy. Buddy and Maya (my dog) get along ok. They don't play together very often, mostly they just co-exist. Sometimes they lay in my bed together, or next to each other on the floor. He doesn't like when she sniffs at him, mostly because of his tender tail. He has attached himself to me pretty good. If anyone playfully hits me, or anything like that, he will bark and growl. He also growls at Maya if he is laying in my lap and she comes over to visit, but, if she's by me before him it's not a problem. I know that's a lot to consider when thinking about adopting a dog, but honestly, he has given me more then I could ever give him. He's just a joy to have. Please think about how a senior dog might fit into your life, and if you are interested, please fill out an adoption application at http://thelastresortrescue.com/ He's truly worth it. Hi, my name is Buddy. They tell me I'm a Shih Tzu, possibly mixed with Maltese. I love to lay on my foster moms lap, snuggle on my comfy bed, and go for walks! From what I heard, I do pretty well on a leash. Also, I'm fully house trained. I've been with my foster family for 3 days and haven't had one accident. I'm a very good boy! I'm not too interested in toys, but boy do I love my treats! I also like car rides, and kisses! And although I don't fidget too much in the tub, bath time is not my favorite. My foster mom says that I'm going to make a special family very happy. Will it be you? Keep watching, she also says she'll be sending updates on my progress! They were born approximately April 11th, 2015, They are very sweet and good with other dogs! They and their momma will be arriving to NJ on 6/14/15. Update from foster mom 06/17/15 Sweet times 3! Momma Lucy has a very sweet disposition, it’s like she has been with us for years! She easily warmed up to us. Lex – the smaller of the 2 pups, is a ball of fire, he feels he needs to defend himself from his stocky brother Luther. Both are absolutely adorable! Anyone who adopts any of the 3 will be extremely lucky! We have fostered 3 other dogs in the past & I must admit these 3 by far are the best!!!! Update from foster mom 06/30/15 "LUTHER" This cutie is ready for his new come! Another great name would be MJ (Michael Jackson) because his paws look like Michael's gloves without the glitz. He loves to play outside, yet cuddles on the couch too! He was a little skiddish when he arrived to his foster home, but is coming around. Give this Little Guy the chance to grow up in a loving home Update from foster mom 10/21/15 LUTHER – this 6 ½ month old pup is looking for a new foster or forever home. He is quite the cutie. Fully housebroken, neutered and crate trained. He loves to play, cuddle & give kisses. He needs a little more training with cats that is why he needs a new foster….the weather is getting cold and it’s time for the foster’s cats to come in for the Winter months. He gets along terrifically with other dogs and loves to go for walks. Weighing about 25 pounds he is not a big dog. He is a mix (Mother was a Blue Heeler/Aust. Cattle Dog, father unknown) although he looks like he could be part Labrador. Open your arms to this absolutely loving pup! Luther is now a year old as of 4/21/16. Update from foster mom Luther is 1 yr old Australian Cattle Dog mix. He is truly a great buddy. He loves cuddling. He is crate trained as well as housebroken. He is ok with cats and small dogs but not very fond of larger dogs. Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Hubba, hubba! Can you say handsome?!! That's Roscoe for sure! Roscoe is a husky that was surrendered by his owner who did not have time for him. It is very sad, but Roscoe spent his whole life on a chain. He did occasionally have a walk every now and then but then it got to the point where he was on the chain 24/7. He is approximately 5 yrs old, fully vetted and heartworm negative. He has been in his foster home about 8 months now and is learning so much. He is learning how to play with other dogs and just how to run free (in his fenced yard of course!). He is good with other dogs and enjoy playing and loves people. He also loves hugs. His foster parents are working on his house training. He is good on a leash. At first he did not want to have a leash on him as he thought he was going back on the chain but now is fine with one. It just took him some time to get to know that he is truly loved now. We're going to make sure whoever adopts him will spoil him rotten all the days that remain for him. Roscoe is in foster in NC and can be transported to MD or NJ for an approved adopter. If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Update from foster mom 2/7/14 Meet Kamali better known as Molly. She is a special girl born on 8/14/10 looking for her forever home. She bonds very well with one person female perferred and gets a bit scared when quick movements come her way. So she is looking for a quiet home with a loving person who she will adore to lay next to her. She is crate trained and housebroken and enjoys playing with her feline family. She has also done well with other dogs in the home. So if your looking to open your heart to a little girl who will make you her world you should adopt Molly. Kamali AKA Molly was sadly returned to us when her owner no longer could keep her because of a change in her living arrangements. She was adopted at just 12 weeks of age. She was born 8/14/10. She is very shy and timid. But has only been with me for a couple of days. I am hoping she will settle down once she learns she can trust us. She is doing great with my kids even the youngest who is only 6. She is crate trained and doing well with house breaking. She gets along well with other small dogs. I have two other Chihuahua's and a Pom. She loves to go out for walks and run in the back yard. She has lots of energy and would be a great addition to an active family. She may be little but she is mighty:) Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

Update from foster mom 06/30/15 "LEX" is a spunky little fellow, small but fierce! He is searching for his "forever" home. Not sure his mix, but reminds me of a minature dobie/australian cattle dog (his mommy was Australian Cattle Dog). A little lover, has quite the personality, makes cute grunting noise when he is HAPPY to see you. He is also housebroken! Lex will be a year old (April 2016) Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm
