Posted Breed: Collie / Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat). www.TheLastResortRescue.com PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING THIS PET THE FIRST STEP IS TO FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AVAILABLE AT THELASTRESORTRESCUE.COM. WE CANNOT RESPOND TO GENERAL INQUIRES ABOUT A DOG WITHOUT AN APPLICATION ON FILE. Nate was born in approx March of 2015. He is in desperate need of a a new foster home ASAP. We rescued him when he was 10 weeks old from Craigslist. Nate hasn't seemed to find the right people as he has been in and out of 4 homes already. Here is the latest update from his foster dad who needs him out by the end of this week as he is moving. Personality Nate is a very affectionate dog. He loves attention and being with small groups of people. He has energy to spare, but can crash pretty hard when being active all day. He is very agile and likes to jump to greet people, so be wary of his nails. He no longer jumps on the person he's greeting but may do so if not regularly trained. He is a pretty sound sleeper, even when with company, but will make sure to wake up immediately if you try and leave him alone. Tends yelp if left by himself or if he is feeling lonely/neglected. Will whine usually if needing to go potty. He loves blankets and will attempt to play tug o war with you if it is dangled in front of him or snuggle underneath it. Listens well the closer you are with him. He is very behaved without his leash outside and does not seem tempted to jump 4 foot fences. Loves belly pats and being smothered with love from a whole group of people. Be careful with paper, cardboard and stuffed items, because he will attempt to make that item a chew toy immediately. Likes to hide his twisty bone in the silliest ways. Health and body No signs of discomfort. May have a bit of anxiety from being with different people and not being able to settle into one place for very long. Eats regularly and drinks a great amount of water. Tends to shed quite a lot, but smells really pleasant. He is very strong and active. Very slim and lanky, so he may slip out of his collar if pulled at the right angle. He’s a very active dreamer and seems to have pleasant nights. pee looks normal colored and stool tends to be soft mostly. Goes to the bathroom about 34 times a day if fed 2 cups of kibble and bowl of water a day. about 12 times for #2 and 24 times for #1.Will sometimes do them separately, so spend a bit more time outside for him to finish. Final Thoughts Nate is a great, clever and lovable dog. He has a large amount of energy, so have fun teaching him fun tricks. Enjoy being slobbered on and given many kisses. He has so much to offer so please take take care of him! We are awaiting new pictures but the main picture is from today 8/25/16 Below are the older postings from the time we rescued him: Meet Nate, a 10 week old blue heeler/collie mix. He came to us from South Jersey where we know he would of ended up in the wrong hands so we took him and his brother into our rescue. We have learned that Nate loves affection and even does this little whimper when being rubbed. He loves to play outside with his brother and other dogs. Loves to run around with the kids but does tend to jump up often. He would be great in a family that is looking for a playmate as well as a cuddler.. If you think your family is just what Nate needs fill out the application today! Update from foster mom 07/15/15 Hey there! My name is Nate and I am almost 6 months old. I am told I am great on a leash when you walk me because I never pull. Also I make my foster family proud with potty training, I bark when I have to go so there are no accidents in the house. One thing about me is I'm very affectionate and LOVE attention. Yes, I do bark when I’m looking for attention but I’m still young they say and learning. Everyone loves that I know quite a few tricks. I can sit, lay down and wait while you get my food ready and not eat it until you say ok. I’m looking for a playful home, yet also one that loves to give me attention and cuddles me. I enjoy playing with dogs and kids of all ages and sizes but haven't met a cat yet. Also, my foster family has a member that is allergic to me so we are trying to get me a new home as soon as possible! The only negative I have is that I bark a lot and it's a very piercing bark. I do this when I need to go potty so I say that's not a bad thing! I also bark when I want attention and my foster mom cannot always give it to me at that exact time so I bark for a little bit and then will stop. I really don't think I will be a big barker if I have the attention I crave. My foster family does what they can but I would really like an active family who is home a lot. I am a very sweet dog that just loves attention! Will you bring me into your family? Update from foster family 01/25/16 Personality Nate is a very affectionate dog. Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Siberian Husky / Belgian Shepherd Malinois (medium coat). www.TheLastResortRescue.com PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING THIS PET THE FIRST STEP IS TO FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AVAILABLE AT THELASTRESORTRESCUE.COM. If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Calli & Keanu are two very different dogs, from very different backgrounds who are the best of friends in their foster home. We would like to see these two find a forever home together where they can live out all of their days together.... Calli is just as sweet as she is gorgeous! Calli was saved from a kill shelter in Alabama and we are thrilled to have her. She is 1.5 year old and is a white husky with amber eyes, which is very unusual in the white huskies. She is house trained and crate trained. The best thing about Calli is she is good with everyone and everything she meets! She's good with kids, good with cats, and good with other dogs! And, she has a precious pink nose to go with all this awesome personality! Keanu is an estimated 1.5 year old Shepard mix that came to us from a small SC kill shelter. He is very friendly, very goofy & very clumsy- a typical fun puppy! He is crate trained & has had no accidents in the house, but isn’t left alone for long periods of time. He loves to get out & run/play with all the other dogs & absolutely loves water (his favorite is attacking the hose while his foster Mom is trying to water flowers). Keanu is looking for a low key household without young children and hustle & bustle. He will not do well living in the city of apartment - only suburb living for this guy. Keanu is neutered and up to date on his vaccines. The both would benefit from a home who has a securely fenced yard. They are in a foster home in NC and can be transported to NJ or MD for an approved adopter. Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Meet this handsome boy, Sarge. He's 2 to 3 years old. The Last Resort took Sarge in because he would escape from his home in NC and come to play with one of our fosters. His owners would eventually come pick Sarge up. Then one day they stopped coming and moved away. Their loss is our gain...can you say HUBBA, HUBBA, HUBBA??? Sarge is dog friendly and boy is he a player. Sarge needs a home with other young, playful dogs to be his friends or someone who will take him to a dog park regularly. True to the breed, Sarge is not cat friendly. He would do great with older children in the home. He is very vocal and loves to sing to you so no apartments or condos please, and he definitely needs a fenced in backyard that is secure or someone willing to exercise him on lead a lot. He is crate trained, housebroken and very food motivated. Sarge is the independent type. He can be your typical stubborn husky at times, so we are requiring an experienced adopter that is familiar with this breed or someone who has done ample research ((this is a must)). Sarge is neutered and up to date on his shots. Sarge is in a foster home in NC and can be transported to either NJ or MD for an approved adopter. Who doesn't need this type of handsome in their life? If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Meet sweet little Olive! Olive and her brother, Otto, were saved from a high kill shelter in GA recently. They are in their foster home in MD. We will update with more information when we know it. We do know Olive is approximately 3 months of age and weighs around 15-20 pounds now. She is a puppy so we are really going to be making sure we find the right home that can handle puppy antics. Please no one that is gone more than 4 hours at a time at this age. She is also a hound puppy so you can expect her to be vocal at this age. Because of this we will not be adopting her into an apartment. The good part is she will always let you know when she is hungry, thirsty, or needs to go out and potty! Olive has had no accidents in her crate and is a little more calm than her brother. She is a real sweetheart! Olive needs to be adopted into a home with another easygoing dog in the home. She is a very submissive little girl. Additionally, it is a requirement that Olive is spayed at the age of 5 months. No exceptions! We will take possession of her if this rule is not followed. It is our job to make sure she goes to an appropriate home and we will do just that. So if you meet this criteria and are looking to fill your life with cuteness overload, apply today. If you are applying to adopt Olive, you must be willing to travel to MD to meet her, once application becomes approved. ~~The Last Resort is a foster based rescue. Our dogs are in our foster homes all up and down the east coast. We do not have a facility in which you can visit. We find this a huge benefit because we learn our dogs and are able to educate our adopters on what it’s like to have them live in your home. Part of our process, once pre-approved, is to speak with the foster for the dog you’re interested in. If you’re still interested in adopting from our rescue the first step is to complete our adoption application online at www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

Posted Breed: Husky / Siberian Husky (long coat). www.TheLastResortRescue.com PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING THIS PET THE FIRST STEP IS TO FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AVAILABLE AT THELASTRESORTRESCUE.COM. If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Meet this handsome, bi-eyed/parti-eyed, expressive Sibe – TONKA! We saved Tonka from a high kill shelter in NC and he is currently being fostered in NC. Tonka arrived to the shelter as a stray and his owners did not come for him. Tonka loves both men & women and would do well as a side kick to any active person. Tonka is NOT cat friendly but gets along fine with other dogs. He would prefer to be the center of attention. We would like to see him go to someone who has experience with working breeds or has done ample research and understands and can anticipate the stereotypical Husky. No young kids please. Tonka’s smile is as ornery as it is genuine and he’d love a home that would embrace his personality. He’s a big boy weighing almost 70lbs but does well on a leash. Tonka is 4 years old, neutered, current on vaccines and heartworm negative and in search of his forever home. Tonka can be transported from NC to either MD or NJ but anyone applying to adopt him must be willing to pick up in one of those 3 states, if application is approved. Updated bio on Tonka 6/14/17 from foster mom: "Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist" If this saying is not fitting for Tonka, I do not know what is. Tonka has had his issues since coming to me, but my gosh, you wouldn't know he was the same dog anymore. He is experiencing life in a house with love & structure for probably what is the first time in his life. When you think of Tonka, think of a puppy.... He loves learning new rules & boundaries, but equally loves breaking them just as much Tonka is between 2 to 3 years old, neutered, UTD on all vaccines, hw negative & has been kept current on nexgard & heartgard plus! Tonka does have seizures, & is on medication for them to keep them under control, so this is a must to be kept up on with whatever home he goes to. He is fully crate trained, & is housebroken. He does not destroy things, & is now very confident & comfortable when left alone. Loud noises do not scare Tonka like they do most dogs, however I always use caution. No small animals, no cats, & I would have to say only older children who know how to act appropriately around dogs. He is not a dog that will like a child crawling all over him. He has come so far With his leash manners since his arrival, he walks amazing with his Martingale collar & easy walk Harness on. He could go to a home with or without a securely fenced in backyard, so long as whoever adopts him is active & takes him on walks Regularly Tonka is loaded with lots of personality & funny faces that will make you laugh to go with it. He really has become an amazing companion & just needs the right owner to compliment him. Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

Posted Breed: Husky / Husky (long coat). www.TheLastResortRescue.com PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING THIS PET THE FIRST STEP IS TO FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AVAILABLE AT THELASTRESORTRESCUE.COM. If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com When got the call asking for help for a Husky in need we couldn’t turn our backs. Oso found himself in BARCS, a MD shelter when his previous owner dumped him after he had been hit by a car. You see, his leg had been broken badly and his Owner hoped it would heal on its own. Vet care was not properly sought and the bones started to mend improperly and surgery was needed. From the moment we picked him up we knew this guy was special. Although he was broken physically his spirit was not, he was loving and full of life! We believe Oso to be about 1.5 years old. Our vet got him in for surgery immediately and it was a success and an external fixator was put in place. This would require a long 4-6weeks for recovery and wound care. Although Oso was on restricted activity, he still didn’t let it break his spirit. Fast forward two months later and the fixator has been removed and everything has healed up nicely. And guess who’s a runner! Oso loves playing with his foster brother Rocco, they will chase each other around the house or play tug of war. They eat and sleep together and are best buds. Oso needs to go to a home with other young, playful dogs who are very tolerant. Oso does not understand personal space. Typical of the breed, Oso does have a bit of separation anxiety and needs to be crated when humans are not home. He does like to have his stories playing on the TV while his humans are not around. Once we figured this out he’s not had an accident in the house or create! He is highly active and energetic, but full of love to give. His new parents must be able to go out with him several times a day as he needs his potty breaks. This wooly beauty is going to be an amazing companion to someone who knows the needs of a husky. Oso is being fostered in MD, is neutered, current on his vaccines and ready to find his forever home. We have been through a lot with Oso and will require the most amazing adopter for him! Oso can be adopted in either MD or NJ, for an approved applicant. Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Update from foster mom 3/25/14 Buddy is a 12 year old Shih Tzu/Maltese mix, and is about 17 lbs. He's being tested for allergies right now, We are currently waiting on his test results. He's had a rough life. I found him wandering a local highway in the freezing rain, filthy dirty, shivering, and crying. He was flea infested, had hardly any hair on his bottom half. He was suffering from flea bite allergy and had scabs, and open sores. He was extremely itchy and would cry because it hurt so much. He was hesitant at first but it took very little coaxing before he came to me. I wrapped him in a blanket and as soon as we were in my car he kissed my face. He sat on my lap all the way home. This poor guy has 3 herniated disks, 3 BB gun pellets (he was shot), a tail that was traumatized somehow, some weakness in his hind legs (caused by the disks), a bluish haze over his eyes which the vet says is comparable to humans needing reading glasses, and plenty of bumps and lumps (which the vet believes is of no concern.) He needs a loving home where someone is willing to give him the life he deserves. He's super sweet, but like his nickname, can be a grumpy old man. He's got the funniest personality! He makes all sorts of funny sounds when he's playing, and his nose works for sure! We call it his super sniffer! He's a great cuddler, loves walks, toys, and treats. He does well during bath time, and he's well behaved in the car. He does well at the vet, and the groomer too. He's excellent in the house, no accidents. Also, he doesn't need a crate, he's very good! He doesn't get into anything or chew stuff up. He sleeps with us too! (Watch out, he snores!) He's completely spoiled. We love him and know that whomever adopts this little guy will love him too! He's great with woman, a bit slow to warm up to men, but he does come around. Kids are ok as long as there is no rough housing. It seems to make him nervous. He's not a fan of lots of action (like running) he's a quiet peaceful kinda guy. Buddy and Maya (my dog) get along ok. They don't play together very often, mostly they just co-exist. Sometimes they lay in my bed together, or next to each other on the floor. He doesn't like when she sniffs at him, mostly because of his tender tail. He has attached himself to me pretty good. If anyone playfully hits me, or anything like that, he will bark and growl. He also growls at Maya if he is laying in my lap and she comes over to visit, but, if she's by me before him it's not a problem. I know that's a lot to consider when thinking about adopting a dog, but honestly, he has given me more then I could ever give him. He's just a joy to have. Please think about how a senior dog might fit into your life, and if you are interested, please fill out an adoption application at http://thelastresortrescue.com/ He's truly worth it. Hi, my name is Buddy. They tell me I'm a Shih Tzu, possibly mixed with Maltese. I love to lay on my foster moms lap, snuggle on my comfy bed, and go for walks! From what I heard, I do pretty well on a leash. Also, I'm fully house trained. I've been with my foster family for 3 days and haven't had one accident. I'm a very good boy! I'm not too interested in toys, but boy do I love my treats! I also like car rides, and kisses! And although I don't fidget too much in the tub, bath time is not my favorite. My foster mom says that I'm going to make a special family very happy. Will it be you? Keep watching, she also says she'll be sending updates on my progress! If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Meet Lex and Luther! They are perhaps a cattle dog / border collie / heeler mix? We really don't know, just a best guess! Anyway, they were rescued from living under an abandoned house in GA after their "owner" moved away and left them and their momma, Lucy there! They were born approximately April 11th, 2015, They are very sweet and good with other dogs! They and their momma will be arriving to NJ on 6/14/15. Update from foster mom 06/17/15 Sweet times 3! Momma Lucy has a very sweet disposition, it’s like she has been with us for years! She easily warmed up to us. Lex – the smaller of the 2 pups, is a ball of fire, he feels he needs to defend himself from his stocky brother Luther. Both are absolutely adorable! Anyone who adopts any of the 3 will be extremely lucky! We have fostered 3 other dogs in the past & I must admit these 3 by far are the best!!!! Update from foster mom 06/30/15 "LUTHER" This cutie is ready for his new come! Another great name would be MJ (Michael Jackson) because his paws look like Michael's gloves without the glitz. He loves to play outside, yet cuddles on the couch too! He was a little skiddish when he arrived to his foster home, but is coming around. Give this Little Guy the chance to grow up in a loving home Update from foster mom 10/21/15 LUTHER – this 6 ½ month old pup is looking for a new foster or forever home. He is quite the cutie. Fully housebroken, neutered and crate trained. He loves to play, cuddle & give kisses. He needs a little more training with cats that is why he needs a new foster….the weather is getting cold and it’s time for the foster’s cats to come in for the Winter months. He gets along terrifically with other dogs and loves to go for walks. Weighing about 25 pounds he is not a big dog. He is a mix (Mother was a Blue Heeler/Aust. Cattle Dog, father unknown) although he looks like he could be part Labrador. Open your arms to this absolutely loving pup! Luther is now a year old as of 4/21/16. Update from foster mom Luther is 1 yr old Australian Cattle Dog mix. He is truly a great buddy. He loves cuddling. He is crate trained as well as housebroken. He is ok with cats and small dogs but not very fond of larger dogs. Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

He did occasionally have a walk every now and then but then it got to the point where he was on the chain 24/7. He is approximately 5 yrs old, fully vetted and heartworm negative. He has been in his foster home about 8 months now and is learning so much. He is learning how to play with other dogs and just how to run free (in his fenced yard of course!). He is good with other dogs and enjoy playing and loves people. He also loves hugs. His foster parents are working on his house training. He is good on a leash. At first he did not want to have a leash on him as he thought he was going back on the chain but now is fine with one. It just took him some time to get to know that he is truly loved now. We're going to make sure whoever adopts him will spoil him rotten all the days that remain for him. Roscoe is in foster in NC and can be transported to MD or NJ for an approved adopter. If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Update from foster mom 2/7/14 Meet Kamali better known as Molly. She is a special girl born on 8/14/10 looking for her forever home. She bonds very well with one person female perferred and gets a bit scared when quick movements come her way. So she is looking for a quiet home with a loving person who she will adore to lay next to her. She is crate trained and housebroken and enjoys playing with her feline family. She has also done well with other dogs in the home. So if your looking to open your heart to a little girl who will make you her world you should adopt Molly. Kamali AKA Molly was sadly returned to us when her owner no longer could keep her because of a change in her living arrangements. She was adopted at just 12 weeks of age. She was born 8/14/10. She is very shy and timid. But has only been with me for a couple of days. I am hoping she will settle down once she learns she can trust us. She is doing great with my kids even the youngest who is only 6. She is crate trained and doing well with house breaking. She gets along well with other small dogs. I have two other Chihuahua's and a Pom. She loves to go out for walks and run in the back yard. She has lots of energy and would be a great addition to an active family. She may be little but she is mighty:) Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

Update from foster mom 06/30/15 "LEX" is a spunky little fellow, small but fierce! He is searching for his "forever" home. Not sure his mix, but reminds me of a minature dobie/australian cattle dog (his mommy was Australian Cattle Dog). A little lover, has quite the personality, makes cute grunting noise when he is HAPPY to see you. He is also housebroken! Lex will be a year old (April 2016) Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm
