Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 100.00. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. ***Courtesy Listing*** Meet Charger, a lab/boxer who is looking for a home! This sweet boy has not had the best beginning and needs a loving and dedicated owner to patiently help him overcome his fears. He continues to demonstrate improvements with his training program. He is so eager to please and quite intelligent. He can demonstrate reactive behavior on leash/walks when fearful. Due to his behavioral issues in the past, it is important for him to be with someone who is willing to continue the training that we have started with a behavioralist so he can continue to grow. The trainer is confident that with consistency and confidence, Charger will make a great addition! He is a sweet and loving boy, but is nervous about the outside world. He did not receive normal socialization in his younger days and struggles with his confidence. Within his home, he loves to play with lots of toys and is extremely loving. He will stick by your side at all times! He loves to play and strives to please at all times! He plays with his foster dogs but is overly excited and is being taught proper dog etiquette. He doesn't realize that he is 50 lbs! He is crate trained, potty trained and currently learning the ropes to living in the human world! His foster family continues to diligently work on giving him the foundation to address his issues. They adore him and can't wait to see him happy in his permanent home! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Meet Whitney and Barney! Whitney and her brother Barney came to us along with their mother Coco. They are from Baja where they were relinquished to ARWOB so we could help them find forever homes. Coco has already found her loving home, while Whitney and Barney have been fostered with a family in Mexico until the time they could come to San Diego. Trudie

      rescue
      Breed: Border Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Border Terrier / Fox Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $250. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Trudie! Trudie was relinquished from a local San Diego shelter where she was under socialized, but we could see she had a LOT of potential, so we agreed to find her a forever home! She is a little nervous in new situations, but in the right environment she opens up pretty quickly. Trudie is a very smart dog and well behaved, but still needs guidance from humans especially regarding trust issues. She seems to trust women more than she does men, although she does well with men she knows. Realistically, there are certain people who she doesn't trust and takes longer to warm up to. Because of this, the ideal home is a family with no young children (although teens would be fine). Trudie needs an experienced and savvy dog owner who will work with her and understands when she feels intimidated. She seems to be the kind of dog that needs her space when she is in new situations, so it’s best to let her seek attention — she is definitely not an “in your face” kind of dog. Her adopter must be able to read her body language when going out and about because Trudie can feel intimidated if she is approached suddenly. Once Trudie starts to feel confident and warms up to her humans, she loves to seek attention and belly rubs! Trudie enjoy being quiet in her crate and relaxing, but she is also very fond of an active life style, such as talking long walks, hiking, and going to the dog park. She does well in the car and is leash trained. Trudie has been making excellent progress with her foster family. Here is what her foster mom has to say about Trudie: In the past few days she has started running around the yard and playing with my dogs. Trudie is still a little unsure of Charlie inside the house but she no longer lunges at him. She is eating great and has a good recall especially when I have treats! She has had a strong reaction to a few visitors, but after a few visits and a few walks, she has improved significantly. I took her to the Harvest Festival and she did better than I expected. She was confident walking around the event and even let a few men give her treats. I warned them ahead of time not to try and pet her and they didn’t push it. In just 2 weeks time I can already see a difference with her, but I know to take it slow and I’m always aware of what’s going on when we are out and about. All things considered I’d say Trudie is doing very well. She’s really no trouble at all and is fitting in to the household. If you would like to give Trudie the love and forever home she deserves, please fill out an online adoption application right away! She would love nothing better to become part of the family. Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Sweet Chubbs is a very sweet and loving dog who is the perfect compact size dog! She has been with the same foster family as Bonnie and Clyde since late May, along with other smaller breed dogs. She has been amazing and an easy to have girl at home. She could benefit from some dog training (i.e. leash walking, sit and stay, etc), but she is fantastic in the house and enjoys her crate as well. Sometimes she sleeps outside of her create in the bedroom in a dog bed. Chubbs loves to be active but can also just be a total couch potato. This girl would be a great family dog and does well with other dogs. However, she does not do well with cats and will need to be in a home WITHOUT cats. Chubbs likes most dogs, but if she encounters a strong alpha personality dog who wants to boss her around, that would not be a good match for her. She does well with easy going, playful dogs or even active "in your face" dogs since she has those "mama dog" qualities about her. Chubbs absolutely LOVES children and would make a great family companion. She does well in the car and has no anxiety whatsoever about car rides. She is not a big barker, but is a great alert guard dog. A home with a yard or even an apartment home would work well for her. Chubbs would like nothing better than to find a forever home that she can call her own. She is looking to join a family that will appreciate her and give her a permanent/safe home. Won't you give this princess the love she deserves? If you are interested in adopting Chubbs, please fill out an online application right away. Don’t wait! Posted Breed: Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Laurel! Laurel was rescued along with her mother and 10 siblings from a terrible situation in Tijuana. The whole family was living in squalor in the back yard filled with trash and very unsanitary conditions. Thankfully ARWOB was able to step in and rescue the entire family back in June and bring them to safety. Most of the dogs have already found loving homes, but Laurel has had some fear issues and her foster family has been trying to help her gain her confidence. Laurel will need an experienced dog owner and having another dog in the home is a definite must. She would be best in a home without small children as she tends to get stressed under certain circumstances and can sometimes be a fear bitter. That is why we are looking for an experienced adopter and recommend either a home without children, or a home with thoughtful children 15 years or older. Laurel would like nothing better than to find her loving, forever home! Won’t you consider giving this adorable girl the love and secure environment she deserves? Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Sasha! Sasha is an adorable Chiweenie who was rescued as a stray in Tijuana. She is a total lap dog and just loves children. She is very gentle, but also friendly and active depending on what's going on. She likes to keep busy and be part of everyone’s activities, otherwise she tends to be pretty mellow. Sasha is great with all dogs, but can be a little hesitant and uncertain when she first meets them. Once she relaxes, she warms up and becomes friends even with the most exuberant dogs (see her foster family's photo of Sasha and their dog on the couch together!). Sasha has become friends with her foster family's tabby cat and does get along with felines (you can see her lying alongside their tabby in one of our photos!). Sasha is comfortable staying in her crate during the day or enjoying the back yard with several other dogs (weather permitting). She is inside the house a good part of the time but she also likes to get out and enjoy the great outdoors and the dog beach. Sasha does very well when riding in the car. She also does okay on a leash, but prefers a harness because of her small stature. We are looking for a foster home for Sasha as soon as possible and we also offer foster-to-adopt programs. She would love nothing more than to find her forever, loving home, so won’t you consider giving this little princess a chance? Meet the Arbor Family: Aspen (the mom) and her 11 puppies Acacia, Hazel, Juniper, Kamilah, Laurel, Linden, Banyan, Branch, Cedar, Sequoia, and Sylvan! Aspen and her 11 puppies were rescued from a yard in Tijuana when neighbors noticed that they were living in squalor in the back yard filled with trash and very unsanitary conditions. We are thinking the momma is a shepherd mix and the puppies are a shepherd/lab mix that will likely grow to be anywhere between 40 and 65 pounds. That is our estimate since we do not know what he father dog was. Aspen is full grown at 45 pounds and she was flea and tick infested when she was rescued and was also treated for mange and parasites. We are seeking a foster for Aspen and her puppies AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, but they are ready for adoption. Aspen is a very loving and happy girl and we can tell she is so happy to have been rescued by a good Samaritan. She will make a wonderful family pet once she is ready to be adopted. The puppies are happy-go-lucky like puppies will be and we are confident they too will make wonderful family pets.
