Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 100.00. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. ***Courtesy Listing*** Meet Charger, a lab/boxer who is looking for a home! This sweet boy has not had the best beginning and needs a loving and dedicated owner to patiently help him overcome his fears. He continues to demonstrate improvements with his training program. He is so eager to please and quite intelligent. He can demonstrate reactive behavior on leash/walks when fearful. Due to his behavioral issues in the past, it is important for him to be with someone who is willing to continue the training that we have started with a behavioralist so he can continue to grow. The trainer is confident that with consistency and confidence, Charger will make a great addition! He is a sweet and loving boy, but is nervous about the outside world. He did not receive normal socialization in his younger days and struggles with his confidence. Within his home, he loves to play with lots of toys and is extremely loving. He will stick by your side at all times! He loves to play and strives to please at all times! He plays with his foster dogs but is overly excited and is being taught proper dog etiquette. He doesn't realize that he is 50 lbs! He is crate trained, potty trained and currently learning the ropes to living in the human world! His foster family continues to diligently work on giving him the foundation to address his issues. They adore him and can't wait to see him happy in his permanent home! If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Update - 9/4/17 bonnie and Clyde have been Fostered together and live with several different size dogs both small and medium size and do very well. bonnie sleeps outside her crate and is very well behaved in the home as well as house trained. She is also very good in her crate and likes to go in there for comfort when crate door open. bonnie can be adopted as the only dog into a family with children or a working couple. She has no separati anxiety and is a very calm but would play with others and be active if she feels up for it. does well in the car rides. kitty with NO cats is best. She lives with cats but never allowed unsupervised, she does seem to have prey drive especially on "creatures of the yard" she knows when there is a opposum in the fence no matter what, Bonnie is always right....even if you don't see it! Ha ha She would be fine being adopted wth or without clyde. This duo does compliment each other nicely though. Bonnie is such a sweet amazing loving dog! -------------------------------- Meet Bonnie and Clyde! This mother and son team were abandoned by their family and were living on the streets of Tijuana. A kind neighbor was feeding them and asked ARWOB for help. We are looking for fosters or potential adopters for these beautiful dogs and we even offer a foster-to-adopt program. Bonnie will definitely be smaller than her son Clyce once he is full grown. She is more of a medium sized dog at 40 pounds. She has a very sweet temperament and is good with people, dogs, and cats. She would love to find a home of her own where she will be free to play and enjoy life with a lovely family. Won't you consider giving this adorable princess the love she deserves? Update 9/4/17- Clyde came to the group late May. A little scared and unsure of things. A little rough and of course intact. Clyde has been with the same foster since end of May and has blossomed into a very loving, loyal and devoted playful funny and loving canine companion. Currently fostered along with his mom and other smaller female and male dogs and doing great! He can play hard and run around for hours but when on the home he calms down and can either sleep outside of his crate in the bedroom or in his crate. He loves both dog beds and crates! He does grab things he finds like most pups but not destructive and has never had an accident in he home does well in the car and is not a barker BUT will bark if something is going on in the yard. Has no separation anxiety even from his mom so he would be fine adopted as a single dog or along with Bonnie. Typical lab mes/large breed dog will require dog ttaining especially for leash training. Slight leash reactivity towards other dogs nothing that constant walks and exposure to walks won't fix. clyde is stalky but not very tall or big only slightly knee high, such a great pup! --------------///////-------------------- Meet Bonnie and Clyde! This mother and son team were abandoned by their family and were living on the streets of Tijuana. A kind neighbor was feeding them and asked ARWOB for help. We are looking for fosters or potential adopters for these beautiful dogs and we even offer a foster-to-adopt program. Clyde will likely be bigger than his mother Bonnie once he is full grown. We think he will probably become a large dog with the potential of reaching 60 pounds. He is you’re typically happy-to-lucky pup and will absolutely melt your heart. Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Sasha! Sasha is an adorable Chiweenie who was rescued as a stray in Tijuana. She is a total lap dog and just loves children. She is very gentle, but also friendly and active depending on what's going on. She likes to keep busy and be part of everyone’s activities, otherwise she tends to be pretty mellow. Sasha is great with all dogs, but can be a little hesitant and uncertain when she first meets them. Once she relaxes, she warms up and becomes friends even with the most exuberant dogs (see her foster family's photo of Sasha and their dog on the couch together!). Sasha has become friends with her foster family's tabby cat and does get along with felines (you can see her lying alongside their tabby in one of our photos!). Sasha is comfortable staying in her crate during the day or enjoying the back yard with several other dogs (weather permitting). She is inside the house a good part of the time but she also likes to get out and enjoy the great outdoors and the dog beach. Sasha does very well when riding in the car. She also does okay on a leash, but prefers a harness because of her small stature. We are looking for a foster home for Sasha as soon as possible and we also offer foster-to-adopt programs. She would love nothing more than to find her forever, loving home, so won’t you consider giving this little princess a chance? She has a lot of love to give and would make a great member of the family. If you are interested in fostering and/or adopting Sasha, please fill out an online application right away. Breed: Border Terrier-Unknown Mix

      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Border Terrier / Fox Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $250. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Trudie! She and 2 other dogs were relinquished at a local SD shelter. The 3 were under socialized, but sweet. She is a little nervous and not very confident, YET. But, in the right environment, she opens up quickly! She does well with dogs and so far, cats as well. Once she trusts someone, she seeks attention and love from them. She does well in the car and on leash, and is crate trained. Trudie is a very smart dog and well behaved, but still needs guidance from humans especially regarding trust issues. She seems to trust women more than she does men, although she does well with men she knows. Realistically, there are certain people who she doesn't trust and takes longer to warm up to. Because of this, the ideal home is a family with no young children, although teens would be fine, and adults who are dog experienced and can understand when a dog is intimidated and doesn't want to be approached. This will help in the future when Trudie is out in settings surrounded by strangers, but also for her first couple of weeks in a new home and while getting to know each other. She LOVES her people, she loves belly rubs, she loves to gently paw at you with her adorable paws, and is a very gentle girl with small tiny licks on your arm showing how much she enjoys time with you on the sofa or even going on car rides. If you have a large family, roomates, or a hectic home, it will take a while for Trudie to get used to it, but she will with the right help of someone assuring her she is ok and making sure people around her know to give her spcae. For some reasons people always want to touch Trudie even when she is not ready to allow that approach and, hence, the dog savvy adopter is preferred. She is great in her crate and can rest comfortably and quietly, but she also is a great hiking or running partner and dog park girl. She would do well in outtings like dog cafes ONLY if her adopter is vigilant and understands she is not an "in your face dog". When she meets people, she is NOT automatically going to be happy and interested in new people and people should not expect to just approach her with sudden movements if she is exhibiting being uncomfortable around them. You need to read her body language to know if she is ok with that stranger or not. If you are interested in this sweet girl, please file an application online. Tresey (pronounced “Tracy”) was taken in by a kind foster family after being found as a Tijuana stray. Tresey is a special needs senior girl because she is a “tripod,” but she is a normal dog in every other way. She is super sweet and quiet and her foster family has rarely heard her bark. She just loves other dogs, so a home with other dog companions would be the perfect home for her. She is good with cats and children and she just loves to snuggle and get petted. Tresey doesn’t know how to walk on a leash and tends to get scared of the leash. A home with a yard would be best, although she doesn’t require a lot of exercise since she moves a bit slower with just 3 legs. Although she does not know commands, she has pretty good manners overall and has the sweetest personality. Tresey would love nothing more than to find her forever, loving home.
