Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. ***Courtesy Listing*** Meet Charger, a lab/boxer who is looking for a home! This sweet boy has not had the best beginning and needs a loving and dedicated owner to patiently help him overcome his fears. He continues to demonstrate improvements with his training program. He is so eager to please and quite intelligent. He can demonstrate reactive behavior on leash/walks when fearful. Due to his behavioral issues in the past, it is important for him to be with someone who is willing to continue the training that we have started with a behavioralist so he can continue to grow. The trainer is confident that with consistency and confidence, Charger will make a great addition! He is a sweet and loving boy, but is nervous about the outside world. He did not receive normal socialization in his younger days and struggles with his confidence. Within his home, he loves to play with lots of toys and is extremely loving. He will stick by your side at all times! He loves to play and strives to please at all times! He plays with his foster dogs but is overly excited and is being taught proper dog etiquette. He doesn't realize that he is 50 lbs! He is crate trained, potty trained and currently learning the ropes to living in the human world! His foster family continues to diligently work on giving him the foundation to address his issues. They adore him and can't wait to see him happy in his permanent home! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Border Terrier-Unknown Mix

Posted Breed: Border Terrier / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $250. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Trudie! Trudie was relinquished from a local San Diego shelter where she was under socialized, but we could see she had a LOT of potential, so we agreed to find her a forever home! She is a little nervous in new situations, but in the right environment she opens up pretty quickly. Trudie is a very smart dog and well behaved, but still needs guidance from humans especially regarding trust issues. She seems to trust women more than she does men, although she does well with men she knows. Realistically, there are certain people who she doesn't trust and takes longer to warm up to. Because of this, the ideal home is a family with no young children (although teens would be fine). Trudie needs an experienced and savvy dog owner who will work with her and understands when she feels intimidated. She seems to be the kind of dog that needs her space when she is in new situations, so it’s best to let her seek attention — she is definitely not an “in your face” kind of dog. Her adopter must be able to read her body language when going out and about because Trudie can feel intimidated if she is approached suddenly. Once Trudie starts to feel confident and warms up to her humans, she loves to seek attention and belly rubs! Trudie enjoy being quiet in her crate and relaxing, but she is also very fond of an active life style, such as talking long walks, hiking, and going to the dog park. She does well in the car and is leash trained. Trudie has been making excellent progress with her foster family. Here is what her foster mom has to say about Trudie: In the past few days she has started running around the yard and playing with my dogs. Trudie is still a little unsure of Charlie inside the house but she no longer lunges at him. She is eating great and has a good recall especially when I have treats! She has had a strong reaction to a few visitors, but after a few visits and a few walks, she has improved significantly. I took her to the Harvest Festival and she did better than I expected. She was confident walking around the event and even let a few men give her treats. I warned them ahead of time not to try and pet her and they didn’t push it. In just 2 weeks time I can already see a difference with her, but I know to take it slow and I’m always aware of what’s going on when we are out and about. All things considered I’d say Trudie is doing very well. She’s really no trouble at all and is fitting in to the household. If you would like to give Trudie the love and forever home she deserves, please fill out an online adoption application right away! She would love nothing better to become part of the family. Aspen and her 11 “Arbor Puppies” were rescued from a yard in Tijuana when neighbors noticed that they were living in squalor in the back yard filled with trash and very unsanitary conditions. Aspen was flea and tick infested when she was rescued and was also treated for mange and parasites. Thankfully she made a full recovery and is a happy and health girl. Aspen is a very loving and happy girl and we can tell she is so grateful to have been rescued by a good Samaritan. She will make a wonderful family pet and would love to find a forever home for herself since all of her puppies have been adopted. We are always looking for foster families to help our rescues feel at home while we find their forever loving family. We also offer a foster-to-adopt program so that you can get to know Aspen personally. If you interested in giving this lovely girl the safe and happy home she deserves, please fill out an online application right away. Baloo is a small shepherd mix who has had a tough time in life, but we are certain that he will make a wonderful member of your family! He was rescued in Tijuana after being hit by a car. His face was badly injured in the accident, which caused him to lose sight in both of his eyes (see rescue photos). Yet Baloo doesn’t seem to notice that he is totally blind! He does just fine with his sense of smell and intuitive way of navigating life. He absolutely loves dogs and people! He seems to do ok with cats but is never left unsupervised with them. Here is what his foster family has to say about him: “Baloo has adjusted very well here, with our family and dogs. He enjoys our daily walks, and does very well on a leash. He is the bravest dog we have ever met, especially knowing he is blind! He smells and hears his way around. Squeaky toys are his favorite!! He loves to cuddle, and curl up on your lap. His personality comes out the most when he is excited (food or squeaky toys) and he does a "happy dance." He is quite a delight to have around. He would be a great fit to any family, or single person who is able to give him the time and patience he deserves, as his life is a bit different than most dogs. He does not like to be left behind... he loves to follow you (us) everywhere. We snap our fingers and he follows directly behind. Baloo is loving, hilarious, brave, and just a great all-around pup. We believe he is a shepherd mix and is about 3+ years old. His personality is more around the 2-year-old pup age (except when he wants to nap). It's been a pleasure fostering this sweet pup!” Baloo would like nothing better to find a forever home of his own! He is guaranteed to put a smile on your face once you see how much this handsome guy loves life! Please don’t be afraid to adopt a blind dog or feel uncomfortable about making that decision. We offer a foster-to-adopt program if you would like to get to know Baloo and to see just how great he is. If you are applying to adopt Coover we request you THOROUGHLY read this detailed and long bio to KNOw who Cooper is and what kind of adopted we are looking for him. Thank you! And check out his videos Meet Cooper! Cooper was adopted from ARWOB back in 2015 when he was 5 months old. At the time he was adopted, he was a happy, loving, well behaved typical pup. He was full of shenanigans like most puppies, but he got along with all animals and people. A fantastic pup! Sadly Cooper’s owners have relinquished him and he came back to ARWOB in September 2017. He is now a full grown typical Aussie mix with a few trust issues towards strangers. We are seeking an experienced dog owner that has knowledge of Aussie personalities to keep Cooper mentally stimulated and physically active. And out of trouble! The ideal adopter will be a house WITHOUT children and preferably without cats. However, we do think he will be fine with children who are respectful of dogs and supervised. Cooper always says hi to children when out on walks or if they approach to pet him. Of course this applies to the children who say hi in a none threatening manner. like most dogs Cooper will not tolerate a child pulling at his tail or approaching him inappropriately. He has lived in a home with multiple dog savvy cats and he will walk around them in the living room but his Foster notes he will try to take adv of the cats aren't supervised or cornered in a room of the home without direct supervision for this reason a home without cats is best Unless the home has a particular set up like his current Foster. When cooper came back to us in September because he nip a friend who entered the previous owners home and gotten to a chicken in the yard as well as dog aggression we didn't know what we were going to expect. We were pleased when we received cooper and realized this guy is an amazing dog with just a few quirks — he needs a steady, safe, and structured home in order to build his confidence around strangers and new situations. WHO is cooper as of 01/2018 Cooper is a 48lb dog who could loose 2-3 lbs. Cooper seeks to be loved. He melts in your hands when petting him and loving him. His smile is infectious when he meets new people who wants to pet him, he loves attention! He is SMART oh SO very smart! he has basic training like sit stay shake and other easy basic commands. He is house and crate trained. He has never had an accident in the house. He doesn't destroy things but he loves his toys. He loves food but is not a food hound. Loves walks and car rides. He loves to cuddle in bed and total love bug. He is not a big barker the only time he barks is when hints are going around his home or if warning for something. He also is not a yappy badly dog when people enter the home or when he walks ei no leash reactivity BUT there are certain situations and people or scenarios that will get him Riled up and his new adopted will need to be observant to be able to avoid issues for example: when walking him and he encounters construction crews or gardners, also Ups trucks or motorcyclea, scooters. He tends to get excited and bark at those when they go by. Cooper is great with dogs. Has lived with his Foster since he Cameron to arwob in September and many dogs from different breeds ages and size. Cooper is good friends with many and with some it takes a little to come around but he doesn't start or look for fights. He knows when a dog is alpha or strong personality and he too can be growly with that introduction and easily correctable. Puppies or dogs who have no boundary concept and are in his face being "licky face" he will not tolerate and growl or try to snap but if you correct the other dogs and they present themselves well he will terste them and slowly over the period of couple days moves on and doesn't care that they do that and eventually depending on the dogs personality he will play with them. His BFF is Benny the 25 Doxie shep mix and Daphne the 55lb black lab mix. He tends to share toys and likes to play keep away or tug of war wth people or dogs. cooper is NOT a dog park dog. Cooper needs further training and an adoptee who will be willing and absolutely interested in signing up with a dog trainer/behaviorist to make sure a dog trainer assesses him his new family to train BOtH parties on what is good and not. Cooper is an out of this world easy loving playful smart excellent companion but he is NOT for everyone hence someone who knows how to handle a dog on the otherside of the leash. Someone who is looking for an amazing companion in a dog not necessarily Mr popularity. Any adopter tee is welcome to meet him and possibly have a trainer assess him to make sure he is the right march for you and even better Foster to adopt him for a month before you make the lifetime commitment. We love cooper and someone is truly missing out on this amazing dog! Don't be scared give him a chance he is easier than you think but work needs to still be done. We will request adopters show proof of enrollment with a trainer in order to adopt him. Good adopters understand the importance of structure and leadership especially on working dogs and SMART dogs! We are in immediate need of a foster home for Cooper or a potential adopter that would like to take advantage of our foster-to-adopt program. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Daphne! This adorable, sweet, goofy and playful girl came to ARWOB in October 2017 and we would love to be able to find a forever family for her! Daphne came to us from the streets of Tijuana and has been fostered in San Diego since October. Daphne has lived in a home with many dogs and cats. She is not left unsupervised with the kitties, but she is able to move around the home without bothering the kitties if someone is there to supervise her. She can be too strong for her own good with some kitties, so she would be better suited in a home without cats. Daphne does do well with both small and large breed dogs, but she plays a little rough with some small breed dogs. Consequently if she is introduced to a small breed, it would have to be like our girl Nena (a 10-pound Chihuahua) who can hold her own and find a quiet area when she has had enough play time. In other words, it would need to be a small breed that can handle Daphne’s enthusiasm for rough play. Daphne would love to be a hiking, running, or trail dog. Typical of the retriever breed, she loves toys and plenty of exercise. She also loves her food and is a complete food hound, which means she is easily trainable! A potential adopter for Daphne would need to agree to enroll her in dog training to learn some manners, as she could benefit from learning to stay, down, as well as leash manners. She is house trained if she has access to the yard to go potty or her adopter can continue with crate training, since she is comfortable in her crate. She is not a barking kind of dog, except when her humans come home and she gets super excited. She doesn’t have separation anxiety when left at home, so she doesn’t bark when she is at home or in the yard alone. Daphne just loves to ride in the car and she adores men, women, and children. Many people have said that Daphne looks to be part pit bull, but we have spent a lot of time with her in person and we do not believe she has any pit bull mixed in. She could very well have some pit bull, but her face and coat are not of the bully breed. Although we think it would be great if she was part pit bull, since that would mean she would make a great family dog just like all pitties! However, if anyone would like to do a DNA test for her, they are welcome to do so. Daphne is really anxious to meet you and to prove to you what a great dog she is. We offer foster-to-adopt programs if you would like to get to know her. We really want to find this princess a forever home, so if you are interested please fill out an online application right away! Posted Breed: Poodle (unknown type) / Spaniel / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 250. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Goldy!

Goldy is a young 1-2 year old poodle, spaniel, terrier mix. It is hard to pinpoint her breed, but we know she is beautiful! She has a gorgeous chocolate-colored coat and incredible mesmerizing eyes! She is the perfect small to medium size dog and she is waiting to meet you! Goldy was rescued from a bad home, or simply put from a bad owner. She was rescued from a life of squalor and being chained up 24/7 in the yard. You can see from the photos why one of our ARWOB volunteers who was traveling in Mexico had to rescue this girl and her 6 “bear” puppies right away. All of her puppies have been adopted and now it is Goldy’s turn! Gold rides well in the car and does okay in her crate She is very puppy like and playful and just adores people and children! But she will need an adopter who is willing to enroll her in dog training classes so she can learn leash manners. She would love to find an active adopter to go running and hiking with, or to visit the dog park. :-) Goldy is a great dog, who is learning to live in a normal home and is almost housebroken. She is s total love and just wants to please her humans. She does display separation anxiety when left alone and will bark and whine for the first few minutes, but will eventually calm down. We believe a home setting would be better for her, rather than an apartment setting since she loves to play and has a lot of energy. A home with a yard, and people and/or other dogs to play with her would be best. Preferably we are looking for an adopter who has a busy household, perhaps a large family who is willing to give Goldy a lot of attention. Or an adopter that works from home, is retired, a stay-at-home parent, or even better someone that can take her to work, would be ideal. We believe with the right situation and some training, she will learn that she is not going to be abandoned and that her separation anxiety will disappear. If you would like to meet this adorable girl, please fill out an online application. We offer foster-to-adopt programs if you would like to get to know Goldy. As you can see, I am extremely adorable and super sweet. Look at my very unique underbite with that crazy little tooth! Am I right? I see a future super model contract in my future. Ha, ha! I am full grown and a smaller breed, which means I’d like to keep someone’s lap warm this winter. I would love a super loving family that I can cuddle with and be funny with too. I do think I have a few good knock-knock jokes that I can share with you. :) Here is what my foster mommy has to say about me: “Phoebe is a complete joy! For a little girl who had a rough start at life, she is amazingly sweet and well adjusted. In fact, she seems to want nothing more than to sit in my lap or follow me around the house. Nothing bothers Phoebe at all, including baths, car rides, or the vacuum cleaner. She easily joined my pack of four small dogs, happily eating her meals alongside them with zero food aggression. Phoebe loves going for walks and is excellent on the leash, and she always gets into her crate at night when it's time for bed. And she's quiet, usually choosing not to join in on the group barking. Phoebe would be a wonderful addition to anyone's life who is looking for a new companion.” Soooooo, you can see that I am quite the extraordinary girl and I’d just love to get to know you. If you are not quite sure about adopting, this great rescue group called ARWOB offers foster-to-adopt programs. This way you can let me stay with you for awhile to see how we get along. Nala was found as a stray in Ensenada Mexico, lonely and covered with fleas. She was taken in by a good Samaritan and given the care she needed to feel happy and healthy again. ARWOB agreed to take her in and we know she will make a great companion for your family. Nala is so grateful to be off the streets and it shows! She loves to give kisses and seeks out affection all the time. She is playful and can entertain herself when she needs to, or seek out companionship and play with other dogs or humans. She is creative and can turn even a mundane object into a toy to entertain herself. Nala really likes other dogs and gets along well with them, but we are not sure how she will be around cats. We do know that when she sees cats, she doesn’t chase them or try to go after them. Nala is very athletic and can jump the fence fairly easily, so she will need a large yard with a secure fence and a family that keeps her active and entertained. If you are interested in meeting Nala and giving her the loving home she deserves, please fill out an online adoption application right away. Don’t wait! Miss Nala really wants to meet you and show you how grateful she is to have your love. If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application.
