Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. ***Courtesy Listing*** Meet Charger, a lab/boxer who is looking for a home! This sweet boy has not had the best beginning and needs a loving and dedicated owner to patiently help him overcome his fears. He continues to demonstrate improvements with his training program. He is so eager to please and quite intelligent. He can demonstrate reactive behavior on leash/walks when fearful. Due to his behavioral issues in the past, it is important for him to be with someone who is willing to continue the training that we have started with a behavioralist so he can continue to grow. The trainer is confident that with consistency and confidence, Charger will make a great addition! He is a sweet and loving boy, but is nervous about the outside world. He did not receive normal socialization in his younger days and struggles with his confidence. Within his home, he loves to play with lots of toys and is extremely loving. He will stick by your side at all times! He loves to play and strives to please at all times! He plays with his foster dogs but is overly excited and is being taught proper dog etiquette. He doesn't realize that he is 50 lbs! He is crate trained, potty trained and currently learning the ropes to living in the human world! His foster family continues to diligently work on giving him the foundation to address his issues. They adore him and can't wait to see him happy in his permanent home! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

This little girl is going to make one lucky adopter very happy. Phoebe is a perfect companion, she’s funny, spunky and she has personality galore! From chasing her tail, to cuddling on the couch, to rolling around on her back acting silly, Phoebe is just the kind of dog to make you laugh. Phoebe is currently fostered by a family with small dogs, big dogs and a cat. Phoebe gets along best with the big dogs and the cat. She can be a little bossy with the smaller dogs, however will ignore them if they ignore her. Even though she is on the smaller side at 14 pounds, Phoebe is very sturdy and active. She likes long walks, hikes and even some jogging. She rides well in the car and loves to go places. She also likes to sit and cuddle with you but does not mind being alone. Phoebe is starting to learn a few basic commands and how to use the doggie door for her outside potty time. She is very smart and would do great in a doggie training class. Phoebe is a great dog with a fantastic personality. If you are interested in adopting this little princess, please fill out an online adoption application for her today. Patrick came to ARWOB along with 8 other poodle mix dogs. The dogs were relinquished in Tijuana and ARWOB stepped in to rescue the entire group. Here is what Patrick’s foster mom has to say about him: “Patrick is a clown who loves his bestie Patricia or any new dog friend who joins his pack, large or small. He can be shy with humans, but is starting to break out of his shell. Like a busy kid, he doesn’t always make time for cuddles but when he does the love is sweet and real. A true athlete, Patrick likes running around catching balls, followed up with chilling on the couch and a nap. He is house trained, good on a leash, and rarely barks. Looking for a perfect pair? Patricia and Patrick are bosom buddies. Patrick would also make a great second dog for families who just needs one new fur baby. Patrick brings great joy to those around him. He’s a happy little gentleman.” Patrick wants to start a game of fetch…all he’s missing is you. Would you like to give this cute guy the love he deserves? She has the intelligence and patience of the whippet breed with the joy that comes from her Chihuahua roots. Patricia is playful and loves collecting toys and “babies” in her bed. Posted Breed: Irish Wolfhound / Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Smidge! Smidge has had a tough time in life and we are hoping to find an experienced adopter, who is willing to work with her and show her the kindness and patience she needs. Smudge was adopted from ARWOB about 6 weeks ago, but she has been returned to us because she is very timid and would constantly hide rather than interact with her adoptive family. They felt it would be best if they returned Smidge so that we could find a suitable home for her and an adopter that will help her gain her confidence. If you would like to give this adorable girl a chance and have experience working with skittish pups, we are confident that she will come out of her shell. We believe that Smidge may be scared of younger, rambunctious children, so we recommend a home with just adults or with older, more mellow children over the age of 12. Smidge would like nothing better than to find a loving home and a family who can help her overcome some of her fear issues. Won’t you give her the love she so deserves?
