Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Our total lovebug TOMMY This is Tommy, he is in Riverside CA and is estimated to be somewhere around 6-7 years old. Tommy desperately needs a foster or forever home. He enjoys going on walks and gets along with small and larger dogs with proper introductions. Tommy is on pain medication for an old injury to his front right leg and does have some osteoarthritis of his elbow. He will need to go to a home without cats. Due to his leg injury, navigating stairs can be challenging for him. He loves sleeping at the foot of your bed on his own comfy dog bed. He is a mellow boy and uses a doggie door to go outside. Tommy loves his people and would excel in a home where his people are around a lot and can take him on short walks. He is a total love bug. Please will you open your home for Tommy? www.westcoastboxerrescue.org/adopt/app If you are interested in this dog, please read our adoption process and fill out an adoption application here: http://www.westcoastboxerrescue.org/adopt/. More About Boxer Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Boxer / Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). He is a sweet boxer/bulldog boy about 3 years old. Bowie loves going for walks, rolling in the grass, giving kisses, and sitting on your feet. Bowie is a sweet loving boy looking for his forever home. He is a mellow boy who loves hanging out with us and anyone who visits. Bowie walks great on a leash and never marks while we are out. NO plastic baggies needed! He is crate trained and never makes a peep even when you arrive home. He rarely barks but when he does it is appropriate and usually at wildlife behind the fence. He loves his walks but 2 miles is his maximum and then he naps. He is not going to be your running partner. He rides great in the car and really enjoys watching out the window. He knows sit, He is crate trained and never makes a peep even when you arrive home. He rarely barks but when he does it is appropriate and usually at wildlife behind the fence. He loves his walks but 2 miles is his maximum and then he naps. He is not going to be your running partner. He rides great in the car and really enjoys watching out the window. He knows sit, stay, lay and stop. He loves to cuddle in bed with us but is a perfect gentlemen and waits for you to get in bed first. He never chews a thing. He is highly treat motivated so easy to train. Since arriving here he now plays with his beloved soccer ball and now he is starting to enjoy his tennis ball. I work from home and he is super quiet and enjoys hanging out in my office. I have tried to get him to do work but he usually prefers napping. He is great with guests and does not jump or get too excited. Bowie has lived with a small female boxer, but may be best as an only dog. He has thrived here as an only dog. He does express interest in other dogs out on walks, no aggression just excitement. The smaller the dog or animal the more interest. He is easy to redirect and get him to leave it alone. Bowie needs a cool place to call his forever home. This is a special guy! Gracie

      rescue
      Breed: Boxer-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Gracie was adopted from us when she was 3 or 4 months old, but was returned to us a few weeks ago. Gracie is about 2.5 years old and about 65 lbs. She is a boxer mix, with a longer nose and beautiful natural tail. The longer nose allows her to handle this triple digit weather better than the "smash" nose dogs, and the longer tail helps to communicate with other dogs better. Gracie did fine in her adoptive home but as she matured, she wasn't getting along with the other small household dog. We have been working with and evaluating Gracie the last few weeks. Gracie is a friendly, excited, playful girl. She is good with people, but can get jumpy and little mouthy when she is excited. (She would not be good with toddlers or small children). She is good with calm dogs, better with males. Gracie is not aggressive, but if confronted by an aggressive dog, she will likely react like most dogs would. Gracie will be best in a home with a large male dog. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Gracie, please read about our foster/adoption process and fill out the application. Once the application is received our volunteer will contact you:http://www.westcoastboxerrescue.org/adopt/. Thank you. McIntosh

      rescue
      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Introducing McIntosh (Mac). MacIntosh was found as a stray along with a companion boxer. Sadly the owner did not claim either dog. The other dog was adopted but Mac was left at the shelter. This is probably the first time Mac was ever without his buddy, and the first time in a noisy, very scary shelter. He became very shut down and would not move. He would hide at the back of the run in fear whenever a human approached. Mac had to be picked up in order to get him out of the shelter and into our volunteer's car. We are working slowly with Mac, giving him lots of treats and positive reinforcement. He is still very shut down but we are able to get him out of his run and out for walks. He perks up when other dogs are around but is still very shy with them. We are just taking it a day at a time, trying to build on the confidence gained. We are pleased that he is making good progress. He is a very sweet and handsome boy whose entire world was turned around. He is very difficult to evaluate when he is so shut down, so we'll post his personality as we get to know him. The good news is that he doesn't have fear aggression, no growling, no attempting to bite or anything of that sort. If you are interested in fostering/adopting, or finding more information about McIntosh or our other dogs, please read about our adoption process and fill out the application. Once the application is received our volunteer will contact you: http://www.westcoastboxerrescue.org/adopt/. Thank you for considering rescue dogs, and we look forward to working with you. Linc

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer / Bulldog (short coat). Linc came from Stockton last year on September 6. He was skinny and had horrible skin condition that was later diagnosed as sebaceous adenitis. He was also diagnosed with luxating knee caps that was cutting into his ligaments and an injury to Achilles tendon. With the help of West Coast Boxer Rescue volunteers and supporters he went through surgery for his knees and stem cell therapy for Achilles and surgical sites which also helped heal his skin. It took weeks to see improvements for his skin, but the change has been nothing short of being awesome. Linc is an amazing dog - a perfect gentleman. He is great with other dogs, sweet, calm, gentle and walks nicely on leash for the most part. He is even ok with cats. He loves people and loves to be pet. Linc is probably about 2 years old and weights about 48 lbs. Because of his skin condition, he needs a rub down with olive oil/water solution, let that sit for 1-2 hours, then a bath to wash that off every 1-2 weeks. He also has eye issue and needs eye medication administered few times a day. Following items need to be considered if you are interested giving him a forever home (medical is covered for foster home): - His knees and Achilles has healed and he has been given a clean bill of health by his surgeon. - His tear production isn't good. He will need eye ointment few times a day for the rest of his life probably. - Sabaceous adentitis is an autoimmune disease. This is only the 3rd case this has been treated with stem cell, oldest case being 2011. - It is likely that he may need future stem cell dose. Because there are only 2 cases prior we don't know how often. The case that is recorded with VetStem utilized stem cell once every 1-2 years. - There is an annual stem cell banking charge with Vet Stem. You can read more about it here: https://www.vet-stem.com/cellbanking/ - Each treatment of stem cell is going to cost around $500, depending on the veterinarian. There is one dose left at VetStem. - After the remaining 1 dose, the stem cell need to be re-cultured with one-time fee of $750 - $1000 (may require additional cost from your vet). - There are ways to manage sabaceous adentitis without the stem cell. If you are interested in Linc, please read about our adoption process and fill out the application. Once the application is received our volunteer will contact you: http://www.westcoastboxerrescue.org/adopt/. Thank you. Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Introducing Kingston. Kingston was turned in by his owner who could no longer keep him. This is what we were told about Kingston. He is a very good boy who loves his family. He is good with other dogs and children. Kingston lived outdoors (Kingston must be an indoor dog in his forever home). and would stay in the garage in bad weather. He is about 6 years old. He is still playful and does like chewing toys if you let him. Kingston was adopted from the shelter by a family. They tested their dog with Kingston and everything went well. But after they got home, the resident dog attacked Kingston. The family said Kingston didn't do anything nor did he fight back. They said he loved to be in the doggie pool, chased butterflies and was great with the kids. He played with toys when the other dog wasn't around. For the safety of Kingston, the family returned him to the shelter. Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Modelo came to us several months ago as part of a group of 4 boxers from Mexico. All 4 were owned by a backyard breeder that died. A poor neighbor did his best to take care of these boxers but food and water were scarce. We were contacted when someone discovered these boxers nearly starving to death. All 4 were in bad medical shape. Modelo was probably the worst. We think Modelo is about 5 years old, but it is very difficult to determine her age. Normally, vets check teeth, body, and skin. Modelo and the other 3 had lived in such poor conditions that they appear to older than we think they are. Modelo may look a little grey in the tooth, but this girl still has game. She is good with people and other dogs. Commander is a young boxer/labrador mix with a goofy and happy go lucky personality. He is still very puppy like and playful. Commander is a big boy who is going to get a little bigger. We noticed that his front paws face outward and back legs can be bowed at times. We had him checked out at the vet. Commander may not have the best confirmation, and he is still growing. We will keep an eye on him but expect him to fine once his growth plates are complete. Commander has a great personality, but as a pup will benefit from some basic training and obedience. He is good with people and other dogs, but his exuberance could be overwhelming for small kids and small animals. Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Cory Needs A Special Forever Home Do you remember Cory's story from last year? Cory came to West Coast Boxer Rescue on July 7, 2015, almost dead, unable to walk or eat on his own. Emaciated with mange, foxtails in his body, open wounds, skin infection, bone infection, systemic infection of his lung, liver and infection in his heart (endocarditis). And now after 9 months of treatment he is recovered and ready to go to his forever home. What is remarkable about Cory is his body's ability to heal, but also you would NEVER guess from his personality he went through a severe neglect in his life. He loves and trusts humans, very affectionate and attentive. He loves to cuddle on the sofa or in bed with people and dogs. He loves to play with other dogs too. There isn't a mean bone in his body. Cory knows to sit and ask nicely for his meals, and is also potty trained. He can walk nicely on the leash once he calms down. Cory knows his name and will come when he is called. Cory is very energetic and will definitely benefit from basic obedience training. We estimate Cory to be about 1 1/2 years old. He weighs about 62 lbs. There are couple of things about Cory you should know. He has a little bit of separation anxiety/barrier frustration and does not do well in a crate for a long period of time (he gets crated up to 5 hours 2 times a week in his foster home). He will also need to take 2 types of heart medications for the rest of his life. It is recommended his heart gets checked out by a cardiologist once a year. Here is a video of Cory you can view to see what he looks like when he came to our rescue and his journey partway to his recovery: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7x7mvE6L3y4. Won't you open up your heart and your home to this very special boy and give him the love and the care he deserve for the rest of his life? He is an amazing, sweet boy.
