Posted Breed: Boxer. Rufus 6 yr old Male Boxer, good with dogs, no cats, no kids under 15, Potty Trained, special needs Rufus has been with us a while now and is currently working on his socialization issues and working on controlling his energy. This boy has had a rough start to life and we are working on his trust of humans again. Rufus will need a home without a lot of visitors and where his people are home often to give him love and attention. He does well with most of the dogs he has met but should not be in a home with cats as he thinks they are large fluffy squeaky toys. His new home will need to be patient and can and will follow our transitioning instructions completely. He has come so far from the scared and anxious boy we took in and we know he will need a special home to continue to let him grow and be loved. Due to his stresses earlier in his life he has some behavioral issues that require work and patience. If you feel up to opening your home to a dog who is in need of a special home please fill out an application today. Note: Please fill out an application and a volunteer will contact you within 1-2 business days. More About Boxer Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

She is presently on a diet and is doing well with that. Sarah is a sweet girl who just needs some time to warm up. She is shy and nervous and needs a quieter home that will help her to relax and let her personality come out. Posted Breed: Chihuahua. Cookie 6 and a half year old male Chihuahua, not good with children or cats, good with dogs, basic potty trained Cookie is looking for a quiet home that will give him lots of time to warm up to them. Cookie is a very nervous boy who was pulled from a hoarding situation where he got very little socialization. He is currently fostered with dogs and has done very well with them. Needs to be kept on a schedule for continued house training. He does like to chase cats so he would not do well in a home with cats. Cookie cannot go to a home with children as they will overwhelm him and it would set him up for failure in his road to recovery. Cookie tends to take better to women than men but has started to come up to his foster mother's brother. Cookie will need a very patient home that will not push him and give him all the time he needs to become comfortable with them. Once he is comfortable he is a sweet boy who will look for some love and attention on his terms. He would love to be adopted with his brother Beau. Please note we do not have a central kennel facility, all of our pets are located in foster homes. Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Terrier / Mixed. Anndalina 4 year old female, chi mix. black with white, no kids, okay with some dogs, basics of potty training. Anndalina came to us as an emergency surrender. This poor girl was trying to chew her tail off and needed emergency treatment. We rushed her into our vet and it was determined her tail would need to be amputated to prevent any infection from spreading. This poor nervous girl was whisked into surgery and brought back to one of our foster homes. Anndalina has had a rough beginning to her life and she will need a patient and understanding home to help her become the dog we know she can be. We would recommend she go to a child free home and a home where her Chihuahua bark will not be a problem. A nice quiet couple or single person would be the ideal place for her as she can become overwhelmed with too many visitors. Once she bonds to her people she is very affectionate but it will take a while for this nervous girl to settle into any new home and she will need to be given time to calm and adjust. Please note we do not have a central kennel facility, all of our pets are located in foster homes. Beau 6 and a half year old, male chihuahua, good with some dogs, no kids, no cats, knows basics of potty training but does have accidents Beau is looking for a home that will give him time to become the sweet boy he is. He came from a bad breeding situation where he had very little socialization and very little exercise. He has been doing very well trusting people and would like a home that will continue that work with trust building and socialization. Beau usually takes to women better than men although he has been working on making friends with his foster's brother. Beau is currently fostered with other dogs and would do ok in a home with a play buddy of equal size. No cats for Beau as he loves to chase them. Beau would do best in a quiet home with no children and little foot traffic where he won't be pressured into any uncomfortable situations. Once he becomes attached to his people he is very loving and sweet but will need time to warm up to any new people or situation. Please consider adopting Beau and Cookie Monster together, you would have a ready made family who will love you forever. Please note we do not have a central kennel facility, all of our pets are located in foster homes. Posted Breed: Beagle / Hound / Mixed. Candy 8 years old, female, hound mix, good with dogs, no kids Poor Candy has been through so much. She has been trying to adjust to life with people again and is doing better but still has a long way to go. When we first got Candy in she was not happy with one of the members of her foster home and so she had to move to a different foster. She is doing well at her current foster and is starting to socialize slightly. She is very fearful of new people and will run and hide and bark from afar. If she knows you she will start to socialize with you and will sometimes seek attention. Candy came from an environment where she was not kept in a home situation and that has not helped her already shy personality. Candy has also had a golf-ball sized bladder stone removed since she has been with us and is currently on prescription food to prevent this from happening again. This poor pup will need a really special home to step up and become her forever home. Is that home yours? Please no kids in Candy's forever home. Please note we do not have a central kennel facility, all of our pets are located in foster homes.
