Posted Breed: Boxer. Butch is an 8 year old male boxer. He very handsome and wears his gray so well. Butch came in from Animal Friends of the Valley with a female boxer friend. They rode in the car together and were kenneled together while in the shelter. Butch seems to do fine with other dogs but an interact would be necessary. He is very lovable and healthy. He needs his teeth cleaned but otherwise, Butch is one tough old guy! If you are interested in meeting this silver fox please email our Adoption Coordinator at Info@lastchanceatlife.org

Boxer

A.K.A. : German Boxer, Deutscher Boxer

Height (in): male: 22.5-25, female: 21-23.5
Colors: Fawn and brindle, both with or without white flashing and black mask.
Coat: White should not cover more than a third of the dog. Coat is short and smooth.
Character: Boxers tend to be very friendly and intelligent dogs. They bond very closely with their family.
Temperament: The breed gets along especially well with children. They also can get along well with most other dogs and household pets. They can be naturally inclined to protect a family from intruders.

More About Boxer Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Oceanside, CA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Magnus is a gorgeous fawn/white neutered male Boxer who came to us from the Bonita shelter as an unclaimed stray. He is approximately 2 -3 years young, and has a natural tail and ears. He is learning some basic obedience while in our care, and he’s doing great — loves everyone he meets. We tested him at the shelter with a female Pit Bull, and he did just fine. He was intact at the time we tested him, so he was a bit “forward” with her, and when she said “no thanks,” he listened and was quite the gentleman Boxer. Our daily dog-walking volunteers report that he walks beautifully on leash but say that he sees other dogs and goes a little nutty and becomes reactive. So we will get him into training to help him with those leash behaviors. He would do best in a home with a submissive and playful female and/or larger dog. He seems to be most reactive with little dogs. He is a big, solid Boxer boy — weighing in at approximately 70 lbs. Interested in meeting Magnus? He is approximately 4-5 years young, and is good with other dogs and adults. We do not know his behaviors around small children. We were told that he does not like to cuddle, but once he’s comfortable with you, he will trust you and let you handle him just fine. He’s been wonderful with all of our volunteers, and he is kenneled with our small dogs. Interested in meeting Prince? Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Boxer (short coat). LCAL’s biggest mission in animal rescue is saving the ones that are overlooked due to medical needs, and ELEVEN is no exception! We pulled her from the Bonita shelter after she was deemed not-for-public adoption due to a heart murmur. She found herself there as a stray at only 5 weeks of age. Did the person who had her know this about her heart? Did she simply stray away and no one came looking for her? Either way, she was still too young to be away from her mama dog and litter mates, if she had any. So many questions … and no answers. But THIS MUCH we know — she is now an LCAL pup, and we welcome her, heart murmur and all! We’ve completed an echocardiogram with the cardiologist last week, and she was diagnosed with severe pulmonic valve stenosis — a grade V/VI systolic murmur. With a heart condition like this, unfortunately, Eleven’s lifespan will be greatly shortened. She could live another two months or she could live another two years. If she lives to be 10 months old, we can do another procedure called a balloon valvuloplasty on her, which may help give her a longer lifespan. For now, she is all puppy — playful, silly, eating well, and chewing on everything she can sink her little razor sharp puppy teeth into! She is currently being fostered with one of our volunteers in a home with another Boxer and a Mastiff. We’d love to find a forever home or hospice foster for her. Her dark eyes and loving personality will surely keep you smiling every – single – day she walks this earth! Questions/inquiries – “info@lastchanceatlife.org”

      Breed: Chiweenie
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Baby
      Location: Oceanside, CA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Rivet is a 9 months young Chihuahua-mix (possibly Chiweenie) pup, looking for her forever home. She came into our care after being saved from the San Bernardino shelter when she and her mom and litter mates found themselves there and in danger of immediate euthanasia due to overcrowding issues there. We swooped up mom (Raven) and pups and brought them into the care of LCAL Rescue. They’ve been with us now for 9 months, and we can’t figure out why these cuties are still with us. Perhaps it’s due to the overabundance of Chihuahua breeds available in shelters and other rescues. Rivet has a very sweet disposition, good with dogs, kids, and loves everyone she meets. Are you looking to adopt an adorable Chi-mix pup? Please consider Rivet — she’d make an amazing family addition and companion!

She was taken in to SDHS with what was described as a 5-lb mass on her forehead area. The wonderful veterinary staff at SDHS removed the mass, and she is now a part of the LCAL family while she awaits a forever home. Latte is good with dogs and people, and she has been very friendly with everyone during her short stay with us thus far! She is approximately 5 years young .. and ready for adoption!

Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Gorgeous Gracie came to us a few weeks ago from Long Beach City shelter needing ACL surgery. She was immediately seen by our orthopedic surgeon, and he fixed her up and she’s been on the road to recovery — now ready for adoption! She was kenneled with another dog at the shelter, but she came to us, she’s shown to be pretty dog reactive. We’ve tested her with a submissive, calm, stable male Boxer, and she had zero issues, so we know she’s capable of liking other dogs, she’s just very selective. For now, we recommend her as an only dog or with a calm, stable male dog. She needs some leash work, and she’s learning her basic commands with #TeamLCAL. She is approximately 6 years young and has been wonderful with all the people she’s met and those that work with her from day to day! www.Lastchanceatlife.org Please see our website for information on the adoption process and to submit an adoption application or set up a time to meet any of our adoptable dogs.

Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). This red-carpet superstar came to us from our friends at the SD County Animal Shelter in early February. She was an unclaimed stray, having a very large overgrowth of masses taking over her left forearm area. She went through her first phase of treatment — hoping to shrink the tumors with medications but in order to stop the spread of cancer she had her leg amputated and she is doing incredibly well now. She tested well with a submissive female Boxer, and she’s been good with some of our calmer dogs at the adoption center. She is approximately 6 years old, 65 pounds, great on leash, and she’d love to find her forever home! She jumps but only in joy and never on people or against cabinets. She corrects easily on leash and will be an excellent walking or running companion. She follows me and sits under my feet at my desk, occasionally nudging me in hopes of getting a belly rub. Crate trained and house broken. Docs think she is about 5 or 6. She is timid when you meet her but will quickly become your best friend in the right home. If you are interested in Marisol please contact our Adoption Coordinator at Info@lastchanceatlife.org
